Primo Plastic Intergalactic II PDGA C-Tier 27-28 Sept 08

Postby grease » Wed Feb 20, 2008 12:50 am

Before I sanction this event, I just wanted to get a general consensus from the players. Would you prefer a two day B-tier or a one day C-tier? Either way, I will make sure that the payout is the same if not better than last year. What do you think?

I think you are the best TD that Georgia has ever seen and I have always looked up to you and your wisdom.
Please accept my vote for whatever makes your life easier, as I do not wish to see you suffer uselessly.

Thanks for all you do!

Just because r-head wants a 2-day, I want a 1 day (Sunday) C-tier. Voting is now open! Let the campaign begin.

Vote for a 1 day!
Its just as much fun as a two day, only shorter!

I would like to cast my vote for a 1 day C-Tier with B-Tier payout. Saturday is preferred as I get a Sunday to relax and look at my 1st place trophy. But I agree with Keith, what ever makes your life a little stressful is always best.

I would also like pie. Man I love pie - Mmmmmmmm pie

If you do a one day we will be stuck with another tool (DD) for a PPI CHAMPION in the advanced division. During a 2-day the tool (DD) will choke therefore relinquishing his title as Intergalactic Champion to a more suitable champion.........me. If not for 2 day tournaments we wouldn't have FETCH, keep that in mind Mr. Campbell.

That's kinda why I was thinking two day. That gives players a third and fourth round to redeem themselves or continue to brew.

2 days, but what that's what any local will say. We'll have multiple pin placements on at least 5 more holes by then so you can change it up each round or each day.

Honestly I have never played a one day event because I have always thought they were a waste of time. A one day tournament doesn't allow you the possibility of having a bad round and coming back. I hope you decide to make a two day B tier Greg.

Seems like everyone is leaving it up to ypu Grease!

I don't care which one you do I will be there.

For those who have to travel, there are 3 or 4 hotels close by that are very inexpensive.

Count me in for some CTP's

I vote for a 2-day - especially if it means alternate pin placements.
B-tier or C-tier doesn't matter to me.

Just so we know - what would be the difference in entry fees for a 1-day vs. a 2-day?

I was leaning towards 2 day c-tier. Less PDGA restrictions means better payout for all divisions. I was thinking 2 rounds on Tuesday then 2 rounds on Friday.

The last sentence was a joke.

How can it still be Intergalactic if it's a one day tournament?

Maybe Galactic at best for a one day.

It's been decided. It will be a two day C-tier. The payout will meet B-tier status, but less money will be taken from the players for PDGA fees. Sound cool?

WIMPS

Postby TL » Sun Apr 27, 2008 2:24 pm

Just thought some should know that if they cannot handle playing two rounds in one day, maybe they ought to be at home on the couch with a bag of chips and a remote. As for the serious Disc Golfer Two rounds should not worry them. Doesn't anyone ever play more than one round once they've gotten to a course.
I love Disc Golf and any opportunity to play against those with more experience is welcome by me. Hope to see some familiar faces from: Oregon Park or East Roswell...

The question was never one or two rounds, it was one or two days. Each day will be two rounds. Sorry if you misunderstood that.

I think we should have a one day tournament just to piss off all of the serious golfers who wanted to play two days. Then I can stay on the couch the next day and eat the chip crumbs out of my belly button while I watch TV.

The belly lint is a good source of fiber. However, it does raise my salt intake.

Nice attack at anyone who can't play more than one round. What if they have time constraints, or an injury of some sort? I know there are times when I can only get out for one round, does that mean I have to quit the sport? What about my buddies that don't play tournament golf and might only have time for one round in a day? Do they have to quit too because they aren't "serious" golfers?

There's lots of times i can only afford to play one round, family, work, kids..etc as i've gotten older i seem to have more crap to do that i can't get out of. But i do play tourney's when i get a chance, 2 rounds, 4 rounds it's all good when i can but scheduling a whole weekend is tough on us married guys with familys. When i was recovering from shoulder surgery one round is all the shoulder could take, but i still played as much as i could. It's not being lazy, just more important to do the family thing at times or keep an injury from getting worse.

Also it's interesting to watch Vern pick the navel lint out of his teeth after having chips between rounds. :D

I was just being lazy. I have new batteries for my remote and two whole bags of chips. 2 rounds is a lot of walking, not to mention I have to get up early (before noon) on 2 weekend days after staying up all night watching Ren & Stimpy reruns.

Sorry for the laziness, but I will get a flier up asap. My wife is in China until Wed. of next week and she helps me with these things. The event is on the board. I just ordered the fundraiser discs. They will all be DX and a good variety that will cater to pro and intermediate as well. The stamp is simple but brilliant thanks to Dusty. They will sell fast once in hand. Sponsorships are always welcome and a tier will be posted soon also. Looking forward to filling this one up quick!

The fundraiser discs just came in today and they are sweeeet! I got Big Beads, Putt and Approach, San Marino Rocs, Premie Polecats, and a bevy of lightweight Stingrays, Cobras, and Sidewinders. All are DX and $10. I also have golf weight minis for $3. Please help add to the payout by buying some of these discs. The stamp looks like the Proto Champion Sidewinder stamp, or for you old school players, it is a direct take from the old medallion glow stamp(with the wording slightly changed). These will go fast!

Current Rating: 891 (as of 24-Jun-2008)

Sounds to me like I may need to chase the Recreational Intergalactic title. Sounds better anyway. Like a lazy Martian out for an intergalactic stroll though the milky way.

Clunck - your game is going to have to get a lot more crappier for you to compete with me. But I may move up a division and defend my title if you are serious about trying to knock me off of my space throne. All the fame and glitz of being a title holder has been alot to endure anyway. Why play up when you can bag down anyway? The PDGA rating system and amnesty program made sure that we can all do it as much as we want. :D

Which pads will be used for which divisions? Also, will OB be placed to separate holes? (like 17 and 18 or 1 and 2).

Pros and advanced will play the regular pads. Intermediate and below will play the
Wade Selph layout. 1 and 2 will have an ob line between them same as last year.
17 and 18 will not. Over the fence on 6 will be ob also.

There are short tees on some of the holes designed by Wade Self for Wade Self and his minions. Holes 3, 5, 8, 9, 11, 14,15,16,17, & 18 have red tees as I recall.

Can I vote for Intermediate to play the normal tees? Then again maybe I should just bump up to advanced. I really don't want to pay the extra $10 and would prefer to play in my division.

That said it would be nice if these were marked well so those of us playing them could practice them before the tourney. I know where a few of them are but I have never actually played them. They always seemed more like rec/ladies tees to me.

Greg's theory is if you are not PRO move up

Seriously, I'm surprised to see him have the INT(old ADV ) not play regular tees as the'Lick is not a long course, but he's the TD and I respect his decisions. (unless he has the Pro Masters play the WS layout, then I'll let him have it. )

I'd be more than willing to help with this before the tourney. (Someone would have to show me where to mark though.

Also, I think some tee-pads could use sprucing up (removal of roots?) and there are several places that are in need of some sort of stairs. I am volunteering to assist in completing these projects. I have lots of free time right now (but not a lot of resources or know-how). Any help/suggestions?

The Intermediate field played the Wade Selph tees last year and things went smooth.
So, in order to try to keep things running smooth this year, they and the rec and jrs will
play them again. There are bricks marking most if not all of the Wade Selph hole. Some
even have marker flags. BTW, hole 3 will be in the long position for the tourney.
Your welcome!!!! :P

I feel like Deer Lick could attract a lot more people with some minor improvements. I hear a lot of groaning about the thorns, poison ivy, trip hazards, etc. that I think could be taken care of pretty easily. I also think I have been playing a lot of golf with minimal given back to the courses. Time to pitch in.

We'll be doing some trimming on the back nine and cleaning & marking Wade's pads. Meet at the white gazebo to the right of hole 7. Bring loppers, shovels, etc.

Sounds great. We can use any help we can get and it doesn't have to be on a work day. There are 4-5 of us maximum that work on the course so any help will be appreciated. Don't cut down any trees; but you can remove any thorns, tall weeds, fallen trees, poison ivy, vines, etc.

No, but if you take a left on 92 from Mack Rd(road leading into the park)
there are a few fast food joints within 1/2 a mile or so. If you take a right,
I would recommend Bonez. Great burgers as well as refreshing adult beverages.
At the end of the day, if you are interested in dinner, cross 20 and follow 92
along the train tracks to Gumbeax's. It's some of the best Cajun food I have
ever had and the line out the door starts at 5:00p.m. Definitely worth the wait.

If you can't get into Gumbeaux's, try the new Irish Bred Pub. They have Guiness on tap.

The course is looking really good thanks to Scott, DD, Wade, Rowdy, and Matt.
Thank you for your help. The Rec and Int pads have been painted with bright
green paint and should be very easy to find. The only Rec/Int pad that hasn't
been painted is hole 3. It will be towards the edge of the pond and should be
set by next weekend. We have added a Rec/Int pad for hole 7. It is 233' and
up to the left of the regular pad. Get those entries in asap! Only 15 spots are
left and some Alabama boys have been calling me today about reserving spots.
CAN'T GRANT!

But everyone pretty much stayed in the same divisions that they were in last year so what does it matter. The Adv. guys are still playing Adv. short of a few pros who dropped down because of their lack of practice time and their rating, and the Int. guys are still in Int. I don't know of many Adv. guys who dropped back to play Int. I should be playing there but just don't cause I like loosing and "playing with folks better than me will make me better" so everyone says around here.

I dropped to Intermediate after all the changing around. I don't get a lot of pleasure knowing that people could be 970 and playing with me in advanced. Of course I was an Intermediate skill level playing advanced before which made it all the worse.

O.K. Lets see if I can rock this KJ style:

Deer Lick Hole by Hole Descriptions
Pool 1 OPEN, OPEN WOMEN, MASTERS, ADVANCED, ADVANCED MASTERS (Par 54)
Pool 2 ADVANCED GRANDMASTERS, INTERMEDIATE MEN & WOMEN, RECREATIONAL, JUNIORS (par 54)

2 meter rule will be in effect.

Hole 1 215 ft
Both Pools tee from concrete T-pad to right fading basket. (A rope will line the ditch between fairways of Hole 1 & Hole 2. Throws landing to the left of the rope line are Out of Bounds. Paved road is also Out of Bounds.)

Hole 2 235 ft
Both Pools tee from concrete T-pad to straight ahead basket. (A rope will line the ditch between fairways of Hole 1 & Hole 2. Throws landing to the left of the rope line are Out of Bounds. Paved road to the right of the T-pad is also Out of Bounds. I've seen it happen.)

Hole 3 450 ft Pool 1 / 220 ft Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from concrete T-pad to a basket on sloping hill.
Pool 2 tees from marked T-pad near lake edge to a basket on sloping hill.
(Discs landing in lake and completely surrounded by water are Out of Bounds. If Pool 1 finds themselves O.B. upon drive, re-tee from drop zone, Pool 2’s t-pad. If O.B. from re-tee, group consensus where throw went O.B. If Pool 2 finds themselves O.B. upon drive, group consensus where throw went O.B. Sidewalks and Paved Roads also O.B. Play per standard O.B. rules.)

Hole 4 280 ft
All Pools tee from natural T-pad across street from Hole 3’s pin to a basket inside tree line on an peninsula along creek. (Discs landing in creek completely surrounded by water are Out of Bounds. The root system around this creek allows for discs to rest above the surface of water. See below.)

PDGA rule of the day:

803.08 Disc Above the Playing Surface

If a disc comes to rest above the playing surface in a tree or other obstacle on the course, its lie shall be marked on the playing surface directly below it. If the point directly below the disc above the playing surface is an out-of-bounds area, the disc shall be declared out-of-bounds and marked and penalized in accordance with 803.09. If the playing surface directly below the disc is inside a tree or other solid obstacle, the lie shall be marked on the line of play immediately behind the tree or other solid obstacle. The director may designate a one throw penalty for discs that come to rest two meters or higher above the playing surface. The director may declare the two meter rule to be in effect for the entire course, or just for individual obstacles. (Sections B through D are only used if the two meter penalty is in effect.)

Hole 5 260 ft Pool 1 / 205 ft Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from a natural T-pad beyond Hole 4’s pin to a right fading basket.
Pool 2 tees from a natural T-pad along creeks edge to a right fading basket.
(Discs landing in creek completely surrounded by water are Out of Bounds.)

Hole 6 205 ft. Pool 1 / 175 ft. Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from a natural T-pad beyond Pool 2’s tee to a basket straight ahead.
Pool 2 tees from a concrete T-pad to the left of Hole 5’s pin to a basket straight ahead.
(Discs landing to the left of the fence are Out of Bounds. Paved Road beyond the basket is also O.B.)

Hole 7 310 ft. Pool 1 / 235 ft. Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from a concrete T-pad across the road from Hole 6’s pin to a basket straight ahead inside tree line.
Pool 2 tees from a natural T-pad ahead and to the left of Pool 1’s tee to a left fading basket inside tree line.

Hole 8 465 ft. Pool 1 / 345 ft. Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from a natural T-pad to the left of Hole 7’s pin inside tree line to a basket straight ahead.
Pool 2 tees from a natural T-pad ahead of Pool 1’s tee to a basket straight ahead.
(Discs landing on any paved road are Out of Bounds. Group consensus on where disc went O.B.)

Hole 9 275 ft.
Both Pools tee from a semi-natural T-pad to the right of the batting cage behind the putt-putt course to a basket up an incline inside a tree line.
(Discs landing in the batting cages or skateboard park are Out of Bounds. Just sayin’.)

Hole 10 195 ft.
Both Pools tee from a natural T-pad to the right of Hole 9’s pin to a basket straight ahead.

Hole 11 260 ft. Pool 1 / 205 ft Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from natural T-pad directly ahead of Holes 10’s pin to a basket up a hill along an S-turn.
Pool 2 tees from natural T-pad ahead of Pool 1’s tee-pad and slightly to the right of the fairway to a right fading basket.

Hole 12 360 ft.
Both Pools tee from a natural T-pad outside of the treeline and to the right of Hole 11’s pin to a left fading basket slightly inside the tree line.

Hole 13 300 ft.
Both Pools tee from a natural T-pad beyond Hole 12’s pin to a basket sitting near sloped edge.

Hole 14 400 ft. Pool 1 / 285 ft. Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from a natural T-pad to the left and down a short path from Hole 13’s pin to a left fading basket
Pool 2 tees from a natural T-pad down the fairway from Pool 1’s tee to a left fading basket.

Hole 15 290 ft. Pool 1 / 190 ft. Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from a natural T-pad down a short path to the right of Hole 14’s pin to a basket straight ahead.
Pool 2 tees from a natural T-pad down the fairway from Pool 1’s tee to a basket straight ahead.

Hole 16 485 ft. Pool 1 / 305 ft. Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from a natural T-pad to the left of Hole 15’s pin to a basket sitting in open field.
Pool 2 tees down the hill from Pool 1’s tee to a basket sitting in open field.

Hole 17 320 ft. Pool 1 / 225 ft. Pool 2
Pool 1 tees from a natural T-pad inside the tree line to the left to a basket slightly to the right.
Pool 1 tees ahead and to the left of Hole 17’s T-pad to a basket straight ahead.

Hole 18 290 ft. Pool 1 / 196 ft. Pool 2
Pool 1 tees to the left of Hole 17’s pin to a left fading basket.
Pool 2 tees down the fairway from Pool 1’s tee to a basket straight ahead.
(Drives must be to the left of a mando tree. If mando is missed, Pool 2’s tee shall serve as drop zone. Discs landing on paved road or on and beyond the sidewalk down the fairway are Out of Bounds.)

I could be wrong, but I think DD is referring to shots aiming for the hyzer gap and kicking into the PAVED road. So therefore, that is not redundant. Good try though.

Grease what are Chmpion Glow "ELs"? You'd think that if Innova was going after the Latin American market they's at least call them the El Tigres or something. Or is this a disc named after Ernie Els - that is cool maybe they could get Tom Kite to rep the Kite too... Stewart Sink probably should not be expecting any calls anytime soon though

Hey grease,

My gang will not be in attendence this weekend, mainly because we are using our extra income to go to rock hill. But I am still interested in picking up a traveler if you have any on hand. Daniel said he would pick it up for me for me if you did.

Hope the best, Ill have to catch you on one of your doubles events and you can show me around deerlick.

We don't need any gang activity at Deerlick! Take your action to the USDGC!

Is there a waitlist?

I know of one person on the list who will not be able to make it.

First tourney for me. Looking forward to it! I play at Lenora mostly, so I'm sure I will hit a lot of trees. =-)

In addition to the normal tournament fare, there will be a free group ctp on
hole 5 first round. That means that out of every group, the closest to the pin
wins a prize. Also, there will be a Jim Warner Fund ctp on hole 2 first round
for all divisions. This hole is reachable by everyone. The buy in is $5 and the booty
includes a deluxe Fade bag, 2 hats, 2 t-shirts, USDGC jacket, 5 discs, and 2 minis.
So far the value is around $200. If anyone would like to add schwag, feel free to bring
it. I would like to finish off the Jim Warner debt to the PDGA, and we could do it very
easily this weekend. Oh, and there will be a $2 ace fund for the entire weekend, but will
be for the longest ace if there are multiples.

Greg, I'll throw in a first run Z Flash and a Star TeeRex to the JW CTP. I'll ask Keith to bring them on Saturday.

I think the Govenor is cancelling the disc golf events in GA instead of the football game to save gas, so maybe next year.

Seriously though I'll also add in some GSSS stuff to the mix to negate the great stuff Ryan is donating.

I did better then I thought, a mere 33 strokes of Pro Champion (way to stick it out Bootsie). Big thanks to Moose for driving over to Deerlick both days in the middle of a gas crises so we don't have to go tooling around for sub-par eats. Great tourney Grease... keep it up. I have a lot of respect for Deerlick. You really have to earn a sub par round. And a big congrats to Ritger for the amazing first round that probably scared the seasoned pros.

Now lets get the Advanced field rocking at LITW next week (shamless plug). seriously though, sign up fast.
