Atlanta Ice Bowl @ JP Mosley 19 Jan 2008

Postby dandaman » Sat Dec 01, 2007 3:49 am

It is nearly that time again fellow discgolfers. A time where we will all support a great cause while playing this great game that we all love. Regardless of the weather! No wimps! No whiners!

This year the Atl. will be doing the Icebowl in a truely unique fashion. With so much competition going on this year, it is only fitting to pit one Icebowl aganst another. And so without further delay I introduce the competitors for Atlanta Icebowl 2008!

For the first weeekend Jan. 19, JP Moseley park will be coming out swinging with it's newly designed and finished 18 hole championship course! At over 7100 ft+ this course is the longest installed 18 hole course in metro Atlanta. And if anyone else ties to say differently, we will move the pro tees back just to prove that we are right(at least for 1 day) and they are wrong! The charity of choice? A Friends House. This charity helps abused and neglected children. They provide these children with lodging, food, clothes, school supplies, movies, and much, much more.

The second weekend features the challenger. While not quite yet a permenant course Perkerson Park could yet prove to Atlanta that it is the course to reckon with. With a terrain and feel of a USDGC type course, this inner-city gem is sure to delight golfers of all ages! While a firm date has not yet been confirmed, it is tentalively planned for Jan 26 or Feb. 2. Charity of choice has not yet been set.

These two courses will meet this new year of 2008. Your Icebowl TD's are John Ritger, and me, Daniel May. Amounts for entry have not yet been set, but they very well might include your time, money, and donated food items. Prizes will indeed be given out, but as of now, none of the prizes include anyting from either the Clinton library, the Louve in France, Carl's disc golf bag, or Starbucks coffee. Do expect plenty of great giveaways and exciting CTP's however, and I'm am also hoping that one disc golfer at each event will step up to bring chili so that we may all eat and pass gas on each other later on in the second rounds!

Media will be alerted of our presence. The Icebowls will be registred in the upcoming week. We would love any Sponserships that could be donated. We would love any prizes that can be donated (even if they were taken from Carl's disc golf bag)! If you can assist in anyway, please let us know. And as always we want you to show up!

Icebowl!!!2008!!!Caw-Wah!!!

Updates soon

Oh and I nearly forgot...

What are these two courses competing for? Players? No. We want all of you to show up for both dates. This competition is for bragging rights. Thats right man! Which Icebowl will raise the most money? Which Icebowl will receive the most media coverage? Which course picked the coldest date and/or the worst weather? Which course featured the most prizes given from Carl's golf bag?

These are the questions that need to be answered people. But we need your help in determining which course is the big winner and which is the big whiner.

My vote?

JP Rules!

Not impressed. Bring it back to Wills Park. I vote for having the Ice Bowl at Wills Park reason being is that its the only time during the year that there's a possibility of a tournament.

Your Icebowl TD's are John Ritger,
And Gomez for PP.

Not impressed. Bring it back to Wills Park
Why not play two new, longer and I venture better courses?? You wouldn't know as you've never played either.

Worried that you couldn't handle a full round at either Perkerson and JP Moseley b/c they're too tough?

Bootsie -- $50 says you can't play both icebowl's without quitting.

Bootsie, last time I checked, Africa was a different continent. Gawd yor dumm. Why don't you change your moniker to Shitkicker. Yeeeehawwww! Try a new sport like bowling. You won't find any alleys in the ghetto. Ha ha huh? Or how about NASCAR? Last time I checked, most of the fans sounded just like you. Peace.

Another classy comment. Is ghetto "Gwinnett" for diverse inner city neighborhood with stellar 50 acre park?

After seeing you quit yet another event today, I'm upping my wager to $100 that says you can't play both events without quitting. Game?

Big thanks to Keith for stepping up with the donation @ the ADGO event today. Dmay, I've got some swag for the event @ JP.

I'll see if Baker Paint can toss up a sponsership for the ice bowls..yes both!! I just need charity info from both of you guys. As for a park being in a *ghetto* area....the area is really nice around Perkerson Park....is is like all areas in Ga.... a great mix in diversity and cultures... I'll toss in another $25** to that bet totaling $125** to play both courses without calling it quits......

btw.... Wills = invalid course

The only thing invalid about Wills park is all the hot moms and high schools chicks always checking me out. BAKAA

Oh, so sorry, Bootsie. Maybe you should change your moniker to Boo-hoo-hootsie. As far as I'm concerned, anyone is fair game to make fun of or chastise when they make stupid comments like this:

Bootsie wrote:Ritger your course is in the ghetto. Last time I checked Africans don't play disc golf.

I'll take Dirty Dumb Rednecks for $2000 Alex.

I'd much rather play top notch course in the "ghetto". Wills has history, I respect that. It's worthless now IMO. For Perkerson to be labeled "ghetto" you think you would see more brothers hanging drinking 40's and shooting dice. I haven't seen any of that. Probably won't. Perkerson is a hidden inner city gem and it will be the best permanent course in GA as soon as it's in. Now it stands as the second best temp course. Crucible has it by a hair.

I was being a bit ironic. I'm ghetting a kick at how this thread has gotten so off topic. Let's put it all behind us now and get back to the Icebowl, shall we? Uh, I most likely won't be going. But if I am, I'll let you know, Boohoohootsie. Then, we can meet after school in the park.

Other items that are acceptable for entry:*

I've recently come across some additional items that are acceptable for A Friends House and thr Icebowl tournament.

Greg is bringin a scoreport. I've recieved the scorecards. I will be making cards for players names to use on the scoreport, I am also finishing the tournament flyer tonight. If you would like to bring some water to use in the coolers I sure would appreciate it.

I'm still hoping that the wind decides to come either in the night or on the following day. Looking like a slim chance so far.

Best score with the wind will be 60, maybe break 60 with mulligans. Thats one thing the wind will do, encourage mulligans. 1-$3, 2-$5, 5-$10, 15-$20. (must take mulligan shot, and only one per hole, and your choice on where it will be).

Ace fund: $3 ($2 for players, $1 for charity, aces split, throwoff for ace if no one hits.)

Basket Raffle: Everyone receives a ticket. Additional tickets may be purchased. Same price as mulligans. Must be present to win.

CTP's: Multiple CTP's, some free, others not. Some for prizes, possibly others will be for cash.

Long Putt Challange (free): Hole# 18. Field aces count.

Ring of fire (free): Multiple items to be given away. Would like to find some place to do this with minimal wind and adaquete space. Probably will be hole #18, or a practice basket set up near the ball fields.

Lunch: Chili (free)

Breakfast: Dunkin Donuts (free...limited amounts 5 dz..)

anyone stepped up to the chilli challenge? if not, I'll make some spicy, and not so spicy.
disclaimer: spicy may be considered *hotter than all get out*, and not so spicy may be considered to some as *is my tounge still there*

main ingredients : meat, beans, tomatoes, spices, red cayenne, habanero, jalapeno and garlic, and so forth.... not so spicey will have less peppers than the spicy. Beans will be dark kidneys, and pinto's

just need to knwo how many folks are gonna show

It was too cold, it rained too much, it snowed too much, my toes were cold, I couldn't hold on to my discs, I didn't have enough towels, it was too windy.

I am staying home today to Wimp & Whine. I was having too much fun yesterday to do so and I didn't want to break the No Wimps No Whiners rule. 8)

Thanks Daniel for the work on this and I thought it was a great organization to help out. I really appreciate you for providing us some BIG 10 weather. 8)

Thanks ET! You are the man!

I mean that really.

I know most people are unaware, and I certainly did not know, that ET was our top donator. A Friends House, the Ice Bowl Tournament, and the disc golf community are in awe of your generosity, and I for one am thankful to call you my friend. I will not post the $ amount of items that you gave b/c I respect the fact that some things are better done with humility and guile. But I will say I got a chance to see the kids who live at A Friends House last night and your donations and gifts are going to go a long way my friend. The badmitton set was a superb idea, the clothes were of the appopiate age, and the movies will definetly not go unwatched. The reward for your bestowment will not be completely realized by us, but I am sure its enjoyment will continue for much longer than we realize.

As top donator not only do you get this great recognitional post, but you also receive the last items reserved for the top donator. Three items in particular: An Ice Bowl disc, a 20th edition of the course directory, and a Ken Climo autographed USDGC program. While it is just a small token to your treasure chest of generosity, please accept it as our way to say thank you.

Thank you.

I also want to thank Greg Campbell for donating such nice items to the JP Ice Bowl. Greg you help out the disc golf community in ways that cannot be measured. If I wasn't a guy and I didn't already play for the other team, I would have to kiss you. You are a true assest to the Atlanta community and I thank you for all that you have done. Anytime you want to throw some discs give me a holler and I'll meet you out there (wherever out there may be).

leave me alone, brer' daniel!
look, truth is, i went out on a limb and i don't care.
i've got a job interview tomorrow that, with God's help, will go well enough for me to make it to the next interview level. That's all.
It's fun game to play, this interview stuff.
i like to pose questions to the interviewer so much, i usually end up doing the interviewing!
i'm sure they regret ever considering me.
serves them right!
so, wish me luck.
if all goes well and i get hired, mabye i can get my employer to provide, in the future, matching funds for charitable donations (wishful thinking)!
More and more progressive companies are doing it these days.
easy to ask, "you got a matching donations program?".
they are boxed and can't lie.
and if they say no, at least you've introduced them to the idea, or, at minimum shown them an interest in a program they may already be considering.
win/win!
AND, LEAVE ME ALONE, B'RER D!!!
you're irritating!

Just so I can be sure that I shot the best score without mulligans.

PS--- I don't think I will play another Tourney that has them. After all, the money goes to charity so at least let us have a competitive round w/ some side action. A 54 is damn good @ Moseley, but w/ 14 mulligans, come on.

The Hula Hoop became so ubiquitous that the former Soviet Union banned the toy as a symbol of the "emptiness of American culture."

Sweet - Happy Meals rock. They are a chubby kid's cure for a dreary day

I love parades. Especially all of the decorated floats. I'll tell you what buddies those flowers they use sure are pretty. Happy Meals make my butt hole leak so I stay away from those. Only veggie burgers for me please. Bye now!!
They call me Steve Jones.

Will you be my buddy?
