requests for Non-Sanctioned/other events in Georgia for 2008

Postby keith johnson » Thu Sep 20, 2007 11:04 am

As much as possible it would be nice to see these dates chosen to NOT conflict with PDGA events, but to set up a calendar for 2008 I would like to have an idea of dates and / or months for events so that solutions or work arounds can be handled to try and keep everyone as happy as possible and keep date conflicts to a minimum please.

Again please post dates in this thread, pm me, or call me at 305-720-8422 and I'll post them for everyone to see.

Keith, we do have 2 non-sanctioned events that we have done over the past few years. Border Wars vs SC will be on August 30 and the Juniors Holiday Classic is scheduled for November 29. I hope these work out ok with your schedule. - John

They are events in the state of Georgia that TD's make me aware of as they are trying to find days that don't conflict with sanctioned events.

The list will be updated as I get information and all of the events usually have other posts in tournament threads here on the adgo message board.

border wars are a team from GA and from SC that play 1 round at the Toccoa course and Seneca course that John Nisewonder runs every year.

well if you have commitment issues you can sign up for any tournament and then not play and the TD will send you your cash back or you can donate it to the tournament as a sponsor if you can't play. Most of the time in the Atlanta area you will not get in a tournament if you try to sign up the day of. They just fill up to fast now for that.

its not that I have committment "issues", its that I am busy and cant make plans months in advance, like the super 6 series. But the refund is nice, I would like to get some info on the Bag Tag challenge of yours, i wrote you some emails but no word from you.

I am new to the game so all of this is new and challenging; tournaments, divisions, PDGA, ADGO its a lot to take in. Do I have to have a PDGA membership to play tournaments? I am having a hard time trying to figure out what division i should play in ( I have no rating.)

Start off in Intermediate. The GSSS you can sign up for one event at a time. You don't have to play all of the events. There's just a bonus if you do. You don't have to be a PDGA or ADGO member to play most sanctioned tournaments. However, if you play in a PDGA sanctioned tournament and you aren't a PDGA member you have to pay an extra $10 per tournament. With the exception of A-Tier events. You have to be a PDGA member for those. The ADGO puts on 1-2 tournaments a year that are only open to ADGO members. That being said, you can sign up for the ADGO day of and usually get in.

I would play a few tournaments in Intermediate and see how you do. If you are finishing dead last you can always move back to the recreational division. Don't rely on ratings to determine what division you play in. Personally, I don't think that ratings are an exact portrayal of a golfers skill level. Just pick the division that you have friends in and one that you have fun playing in. Remember that most of us play this game for the fun of it. I don't think we are going to retire from it.

Well said Mr. Phillips!

I would also say that if you plan on playing more than a few events during the year, that joining the PDGA will save you money(and let you play in the ATL Open as it is an A-Tier) as you can get a membership for less than $50 if you join through the Club Affliaite link,(which alot of ATL area golfers have failed to do  ) and save yourself $8 in the process. Joining the PDGA will also give you ratings which are used to prevent people with BETTER skills from taking advantage of newer or less skilled players in events. You can ALWAYS play in a division HIGHER than your rating, but you CAN NOT play in a division that is lower than your rating allows you to play in.

I can not speak for the other TD's, but if anyone signs up for any or all of the GSSS events and calls me within 48 hours of the event, I will refund their entry fee.

Hope to see you playing in tournaments in the area.

The Tier status doesn't denote quality of player, it denotes the status of the event and minimum payouts required by the PDGA.

You can sign up for the Atlanta Open in the Intermediate division until the amateur field fills up. (there are already 3 people in the division)

But you MUST be a PDGA member to play in the Atlanta Open as it is an A-Tier event.

Keith,
I would like to request Sept. 27 for an Ace Race in Milledgeville, GA. I expect to draw college students from town, as well as locals. I don't think we will draw anyone from the sanctioned tourney that weekend.

Thanks,
James

Keith,

I going to have to change the date for the Ace Race to Sept. 20. A friend reminded me Georgia plays Alabama in Athens that week. Any conflicts?

C tier in Savannah is that day, but I don't know if that affects you or not.

Who is Disc-Caddie? Google takes you to the piece of s##t Gateway disc sling thing that is supposed to be a bag. Is that who's sponsoring the Cold Snake Classic? Please say it isn't so!

Also, Border Wars is a bring your own partner doubles tourney, right?

Try www.disccaddie.com

Don't know, just guessing this is the correct sponsor??

I don't know about listing "montlhies" as then everyone who runs monthly doubles will want to be listed. My opinion is those type of Events should be under the course thread and the onezie, twozie during the year tournaments at a course should be listed so that people can see what is going on. Montlhy stuff will spread by word of mouth like it does now.

The 2 this year I'll list.

i'm calling them monthly's but they'll be one day unsanctioned tournaments that will run identically to PDGA tourneys, but the would be fees will raise $$ for the course, and pro payouts will be tighter (only 30-35% paid out).

i could use a cute name like PCCS 3 (perkerson course creation series - 3 events)?

the other key difference is that this is the only time the course will be setup until march 2009.

you don't have to list them; i'm just telling you when they are & thought other TD's might appreciate knowing before they plan any conflicting events

Not a problem John.

When I set 2009 calendars up next month, I'll put the stuff on them.
I'm sure that you and a couple of others are running Icebowls, but other than that the first Events are not usually until the end of Feb/beginning of March that are NOT sanctioned.
