face lift for rose lane

Postby fwilliams » Sat Dec 28, 2013 5:57 pm

There are changes happening at Rose Lane. Mr. John Nicewonder is back on the scene and is making it an 18-hole layout from the old 24-hole layout. This course should suit the new disc technology nicely. The plan is to have all of the updates completed by the 1st of January, so that we can start having tournaments again. How about we bring "Georgia State's" back home?

Where is the LIKE button???

It's still his named Event - so no problem there as far as I'm concerned!

You would still need to come back and play NGCT at least every 3rd SUN though like you used to.... :(

I played the course on the 15th. Had a little confusion here and there but made it around. It's definitely stretched out. More so if you play the alternate basket on the holes that have that option.

Thanks also need to go to Tim Lawrence for helping in keeping the course going and running doubles there in the interim - he has been a loyal supporter of Disc Golf in Toccoa and at NGCT for a while now!

Thanks Tim for all you do for the sport.

Yes,thanks for running dubs this year,Tim. And thanks to the others who ran it in the years past... It has been hard to draw a crowd to Rose Lane since John withdrew from the scene.
That being said, there has been some good work done out here. Hopefully we can get back in the GA tourney rotation soon.
I actually saw a few more disc golfers out there than normal today.
Happy New Year!

Nick and I were likely two of the DG'ers out there that day. We'd never played the course before, so we are unable to compare it to the previous layout. Navigating the course using the old map was uber confusing though. :?

Once we struggled through it during our initial round though, the second time through was smoooove. Some fun holes too. Our thanks to those responsible!

Fred - is there any way that you can give a verbal of what it is like now? I know that hole one was on the walking path.

Can you give a run down like Hole 1 throws to old 2's basket etc etc - something like that? I may try to get up there soon before I have to move.

Sure.
Hole 1 plays to old hole 2's basket.
Hole 2, is old hole 3.
Hole 3 is old hole 4.
Hole 4 is old hole 5.
Hole 5 is old hole 6.
Hole 6 is old hole 7, but the pin has been moved back forty feet.
Hole 7's tee pad is near where old hole 9's basket was. It plays to old 10's basket, with an alternate basket being old hole 8s original basket.
Hole 8 is old hole 11.
Hole 9 is old hole 12.
Hole 10 is old hole 13. The long tee has been moved up into the dirt road.
Hole 11 is old hole 14, but the basket is now on the right.
Hole 12 is old hole 15, but the short basket has been moved to just I front of old 16's short tee. The long basket is old 16's original basket.
Hole 13 is old hole 18, but the basket has been moved over to the right.
Hole 14 is old hole 19.
Hole 15 is old hole 20.
Hole 16 is old hole 21 with the long basket being about 60 feet u from where old 22's original basket.
Hole 17 is old hole 23.
Hole 18 is old hole 24.
I think there will be five holes under up to 300 feet, seven at 300+, and six over 400. Total distance is 6789 feet when playing the long.

This is awesome, cant wait to get up there again soon. Any updates coming to dgcr or on here for new holes etc?

Also, are you guys using the extra six baskets or willing to sell them? I know the FCDGO would love to buy them!!

I got to play the redesign today. I have always had a fondness for this course and I like the course even more now. Many holes have been tweaked to add some distance and a few holes have remained the same. Well done John Nisewonder!! Can't wait for the return of the "real" Georgia States Championship!!!

I agree with Hugh on the redesign. We played on May 5th, 2014 and found the course and the new layout to be in fine shape. If you've played you will easily find your way around the new design. This course is still and gem and more challenging than ever.
