Oh you are so not in the loop.

If you have to ask questions about why there are only 32 sports left then obviously your are not part of the "in" crowd. Truth be told you've been out of the "in" crowd for the past three years or so.. It's kind of awkward telling you this here on this public forum, but you need to know. Just be one of the other 32 nerds waiting at midnight to sign up. Just don't be surprised when you see a lot of people snickering behind your back when you arrive at the tournament.

I heard thru the grapevine, that if you attended 3rd Sunday doubles at an unmentioned course and paid in advanced for two upcoming tournaments that you would be entered into both these tournaments before August 1st.

Unluckly for me, I could not make the 175 mile (roundtrip) drive so I will have to try my luck at midnight on the 1st.

I think it's great that there are only 5 or 6 holes left to sponsor - with 32 spots left is should be easy to sell them all.

Thanks in advance Keith for running the action !!

how much to sponsor a hole? It doesn't earn you a spot by any chance.

Currently in the hospital right now and cant believe this shit going on with a tournament that was special. Now is someones "fantasy" instead of a feel good tourney that is has always been. Maybe next year I will run an Unsanctioned tourney before or after the first weekend in September so we can go back to what it used to be... A cool tourney with no advanced sales. A tourney where after each round you can see the scoreboard and have fun talking to others as your look. Lots of things to consider!

Sorry to hear you are in the hospital Jay - Hope it is not very serious.
I am hoping that the meds are making you loopy as otherwise I am disappointed to hear you saying these things. :(

How is L/R not a "feel good" Event and my "fantasy" because there aren't 72 spots on sale this year - but it WAS a feel good Event and NOT my fantasy the last 5 years as part of the GSSS and there were never 72 spots on sale those years???

The Event has always had pre -sales from day 1 when it was part of the Series (which you yourself took part in several times) so I don't understand why you and everyone else is treating this year differently...It always had 20-30 names on the website before the individual Event went on sale.....This year is no different except in the fact of instead of having to spend 250-300+ dollars to sign up for all 6 Events to save your spot at Lake Russell, you only had to show up and signup.
I can't believe that no one has a good time at Lake Russell and feels bad about being there because the scoreboard isn't on display 24/7.......
Anyone could always and still will be able to see the board after each round when the scoring is done and the board is reshuffled, as it is there wide open while Brett and I do the scoring.....so I call BS on that being a reason not to attend an Event that is a vacation weekend for 90% of the players!

I would hope you would not want to run it on the same weekend I'll be running it (the weekend after Labor Day) as it could get a bit crowded on the course.

I sincerely hope you are going to be OK and I look forward to seeing you at Lake Russell this year.

i already set up a sweat shop in India with a dozen "interns", state of the art overclocked 16 core T8 computers and a cisco server with a T5 fiber optic landline. Plus they're working on a way to hack a certain server to sign me up early anyway. Not missing this one even if there's only 4 spots available at the opening of sign ups. Probably would have been easier just to dive up to Lula. Crap.

1 minute and 1 second in a 24 hour day.......first it's 11:59:59 PM, then a second later it's Midnite, then another minute later 12:01 AM - which DAY is it actually midnight for the only time it's actually midnight on that day?

Are you totally confused on what time midnight is now???

Here is a good definition - Midnight ends the day, Thursday 1200 at night ends Thursday, 1 minute later (or 1 second later, for that matter) is Friday.

Therefore, most people will actually be signing up on Friday not Thursday. (I think???)

Correct me if I am wrong Keith.

Here are a few tips for smooth sign-up tonight.

Don't waste time creating an account. You don't need one to place your order.

When you get to the cart, click the Pay With PayPal button.
All payment goes through PayPal Express but you DON'T NEED a PayPal account. When you get to PayPal, you can put your Credit/Debit info in.

There is a button to click if you have a problem with the cart. It will call me and I'll try to help. Please only call if you are having a technical problem with the store. I don't expect any problems.

Last year one person got a message from PayPal saying his CC couldn't be used for the transaction. His CC was linked to a closed PayPal account.

Damn that was too easy, i really wanted to call you at 1 am tonight!

Yes he is - and you should know by now as it has been the same for the last few years 25 or so sign up in the first 10 minutes and then everyone plays telephone for the next few hours and it is sold out by lunchtime the next day........pretty much the same this year 20 spots sold in the first 10 minutes - and now there are 5 left for the last 15 minutes....

Now that everybody is in, on to the important stuff! Hole #11 is Chop's Cheesecake Throw-off again.
For the uninitiated, the four closest to the pin after Saturdays rounds who enter, will receive a quarter of Chop's Pumpkin CheesecakeTM. There will be a tape measure and sheet to record the distance from the pin in inches. The beneficiary this year (I think) is the other Elbert Co. disc golf course (Jim Corder please PM me). There might be other added prizes and I will always accept donations to add to package (the cheesecake is enough but I'm a generous kind of guy). Cost will be determined by the amount of extra stuff thrown in. $2 is the starting price. I will update as items come in.

Again a person travels from TX, but this time it's a Schatz (making THREE Adv Master Schatz's)

Huge THANKS to Adam Toll, Brock Woodall, and Patrick Yoe for sponsoring a hole during signups - which leaves only 3 holes remaining to be sponsored.

For we are in anguish and in pregnant anticipation. What manor of man would not share this good news with the hungry? We beg of you, with all that is good, please post the list!

Its set, McWilliams Park will be the beneficiary of the Chop's Chuck for the Cheesecake Hole #11.
In addition to the 1/4cheesecake the closest of the four will win a birdhouse graciously donated by Jim Corder.
I also have some discs to add to the mix (thanks Vern!)
Cost is now $3 but could go as high as $5 unless the majority of you think its too steep?
Feedback (Constructive) is welcomed.

I suppose if before each round on Saturday you could throw with witnesses (say the group starting on 11) then you could enter the the CTP.

Carnac The Magnificent: The answer is

An updated players list
Advanced Grand Masters Division
A look at the Scoreport before a players meeting

And the question is:

Name 3 things that players want but Keith will never give us!

For the first time EVER Paul is wrong

He is NEVER wrong (until now that is)........Gerrit is correct - when the Event was sold out in a little over an hour, I had all the info in my possession - so you all can leave Gerrit alone

You all know that the longer you keep claiming I'm this high and mighty godlike creature, when I'm just a normal guy who runs Good Events with GREAT payouts - The longer I'll keep playing YOUR games. Especially since my playing career is over and I have more time to play along with everyone.

Guess what? - if you signed up and got an E-mail you are in - If you didn't signup - you aren't in - pretty simple math huh?

The 72 players are comprised of the following:
23 total PROS
24 ADV Masters
3 Women
12 ADV
10 INT
ZERO REC Players - Which means everyone will be playing from the same tees and I can save some time, paint, and flags when I set the course up!!!
If anyone from now on gets in from the waitlist, the lowest Division they can register for is INT.

Since I am of the GM Age for the last 3 years and 3 days, every year I have thought about doing away with PRO and ADV Masters and just having male and female Open, GM and INT divisions - but I think for at least the next couple of years I'll keep it as is as those 2 Masters Divisions are over 1/2 the field for the last few years.

There have been some changes to the Event info, Hole sponsors and Hole descriptions in the top post - so if you have printed them out, remember to print out the new one and get rid of the old one.

Hey Keith,
All kidding and smack talking from everyone aside. One of the exciting things about any tourney (as I'm sure you know) is seeing the players list. Obviously, those who got in this year know they're in but the missing link is those who got in for now don't know the other folks who got in (other than the partial list). I remember the last couple of years looking at the list and thinking about not only all the friends I'd be seeing with but also who I'd be competing against (and for me I use competing loosely). And as others have mentioned, this is a vacation weekend for many. It's really a surprise weekend vacation because you never know who's gonna be there until after sign ups. It was always exciting to see the list and start making plans and chatting it up with the players. Not only that, but many make plans based on lodging once the list is published. Often people contact one another after they see names on a list and make final plans. Those plans are hard to make without knowing the full list. Now, I know we've all had a good time ribbing each other and stringing long lists of babble on Facebook etc, but for the sake of the players, and the dignity of the tourney could you please publish a full list of players? Seriously, I know several people including myself who are trying to finalize lodging arrangements and it really would be helpful for folks to know all the options.
Thanks in advance,
Craig

Now, I know we've all had a good time ribbing each other and stringing long lists of babble on Facebook etc, but for the sake of the players, and the dignity of the tourney could you please publish a full list of players? Seriously, I know several people including myself who are trying to finalize lodging arrangements and it really would be helpful for folks to know all the options.
Thanks in advance,
Craig

We have??????

Not too many people seemed to have a good time ribbing everyone from what I've read, so you must have a different definition of good times than I do........
Dignity of the tourney? You are kidding right? This is the most "everyone get pissed off about a person they don't like Event" in the country...I just happen to be the ringmaster of the L/R circus each year - which I actually enjoy very much - enough so that I've signed a deal with the state to keep this weekend at least through the 20th Annual Lake Russell Open Invitational in 2018!

I'll send you the list and you can contact who you need to for lodging arraignments - would that work for you?

If anyone else wants to see it they can bug you then instead.

Thanks in advance for taking all the crap instead Craig!

Does anyone have any info for McWilliams Park (Awesome name I must say)? Honestly I do not know if the course is already open or not. If available it would be great to check out while I am in the Elberton area. Map? Website for course? Reviews? Any info would be appreciated.

Bummer. I was considering moving divisions and wanted to see my choices so I could then let the TD know well in advance. I know of a few other's who may want to do the same. Guess we can take care of those transactions at check in.

"Years later, historians still refer to the Lake Russell Open Invitational (sic) as the bloodiest six weeks preceding a tournament, as members nailed their 95 theses to Keith's door and FB wall. Keith fired back by sponsoring the 6th thesis in Lorelei's name, tens of disc golfers swore never to come to a Keith event again, and all participants in the LROI (sic) were required to wear masks to protect their identity from the outsiders.

Keith IS abiding by the PDGA rules as set forth in the bylaws....

1.2 Tournament Registration Pre-registration is required for PDGA Major & Elite Series/National Tour events and strongly suggested for all other tier events.

A player is not officially “entered” in the event until their entry fee is received at the tournament address.

All openings in the field of play will be filled on a first come-first serve basis, until the allocated places have been filled.

The order of entries received will be according to the postmark of the package containing the entry fee payment.

Entries received via an on-line entry method shall be date and time-stamped based on the actual time the entry fee is received at the on-line entry point.

In the event that multiple entries are received simultaneously, the player with the lowest PDGA number shall have priority.

Posting of the pre-registration list on pdga.com is required for Major & Elite Series/National Tour events and A-Tier events and strongly suggested for all tier events.

If this was a Major or "A" teir the players list would have to be posted, unfortunately this is only a "C" tier and therfore you have to play by "Keith's" rules.

Just count yourself lucky if you got in. I was sitting in a hospital emergency room at midnight and could not get to a computer in time to sign up.

Hope everyone has fun. (Actually I hope it hails all weekend!!)

So Vern - You and how many others want to change from the largest division in the Event with 24 players which is a 1/3 of the field?

Where do you all want to play? ADV? Maybe some in INT?

The PM function works just fine (unless you delete your PM again) if you or anyone else wishes to change divisions and you are ratings eligible to do so.

Do you really all not know who is signed up? - I find that hard to believe as about 20-25 people posted within minutes that they were in either here or on F/B and there were only 32 people that signed up that aren't ALREADY showing up......

Besides you can always ASK Craig to tell you who is on the list if you REALLY need to know - I just told him he couldn't post it -I never said you couldn't pester him with 20 questions asking him who signed up - I'm sure he'd love to play along........I might just ask him myself to see if I'm still signed up - since I'm on the posted list, but said I wasn't playing.

Hey Craig - Am I on the list still?

That PM was still marked as "Unread" when I deleted it this morning. I figured you hadn't had a chance to read it so I deleted it in hopes that soon the player list would get updated, and you would have one less thing to look at. I am not sure how many may move or if they will move at all. I do know I like to let a TD know as early as I can so if I do change so they have ample time to make those changes.

I was thinking about INT for myself. I usually look at who is in a division and see where I am most competitive / have a chance to win. I will not be the highest rated player in either Adv Master or INT so I am just weighing my options. I was also thinking Pro Master since I usually don't get to play in a tourney with Pro's, just on the weekends at dubs or somewhere else. Either of those options would represent a change that would mean I owe you money or vice versa.

For myself - don't worry about it for now. As far as anyone else (around 6-8) they can PM you themselves.

I didn't see your PM - just saw a message that the PM was deleted - I don't have computer access at work - so usually after 8pm-1am (depending if I go back online when everyone is in bed) I don't see things until the next day.

INT players are the 4 already showing on the list plus
Trevor Williams
Tim Bell
Keith Bombelyn
Thomas Lackey
Joji Castillo
Tyler Bisbee

MPM are same - minus me plus
Brock Woodall
Bob Braun
Jim Corder
Ryan Adams
Brett Rousseau

Now if you say you want to play PRO men or ADV women, to see the rest of the players, I'm gonna call BS.
Let me know what you want to do.

Vern dropped into my local watering hole 2 or 3 weeks back and was finalizing the event itinerary for his clan: menu, chef and KP assignments, food list, etc. I think they even left some time on the schedule for disc golf :)

Postby keith johnson » Sun Sep 01, 2013 12:30 pm

I spent 10 hours on the course yesterday making it all pretty and sparkly for all of YOU! (yes YOU as I'm not even playing  )

Met the New Park Manager Jim and he along with Mark were very excited about the Event being at the park for at LEAST the next 5 years, (as well as the talk of future Events being possibly held there during the year) and the park is looking into getting new tee signs and adding more benches and a rain shelter on the course over the next few years as budget allows. I'm also contacting Innova to get 18 sets of new chains to replace the rusty ones on the baskets (don't know if they be in before this weekends Event) as well as a new sleeve to replace the on the left #3 position that got whacked by the mower years ago.

New pin position for hole 1 was put in (to make the shot the same as it was before the on tree got cut down) - Other sleeve will stay as an alt position for the course.
All the greens were hand mowed on the holes that aren't in the open, (I never had to bring my mower or worry about that with the drought years) the teepads swept clean, branches trimmed on walkways, downed trees and branches moved of fairways, and the hillside and the shule on the water side of the green on 13 cleared.

ALL baskets are in Event positions (except hole 1 which will be moved on FRI when I get there.)

Unfortunately for the 3rd time in 3 years someone who wants the course to fit their game has changed a hole - this time someone who must always be short and left on Hole 11 cut the branches head high to have a wide open look at the basket if they are behind the tree (similar to what was done on Hole 6 two years ago with the branch short and left as well as last year on Hole 6 with trimming all of the cedar on the right side of the basket to allow for being wide open from anywhere 50-75 feet away from the right side of the basket).

I really wish people understood the concept John David - who designed Lake Russell, REEdan and other local courses - (As well as other designers) was trying to accomplish which is to get you to approach the green from certain areas to have a clean and open look at the basket.
We don't want to have directional targets on the course so the only way to accomplish that is to have trees create the direction of the appropriate side to the green for a good scoring chance.

REMEMBER - ALL of the info you need is in the top / first post of this thread.

I look forward to seeing everyone there in 5 or 6 days for a great weekend of Disc Golf and fun!

Results with payouts posted here: http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/99595

Thoughts and stats..........The 15th Annual Lake Russell Open lived up to the hype......
5 year contract with the state ok'ed so we are guaranteed to have the Event the weekend after Labor Day until the 20th Annual Lake Russell Open!!
The tradition continues with 2 cancelling by message on FRI afternoon, with Jay Voss and Steve Nelson replacing them SAT Morning, and then 1 player not showing up to keep it as a never having 72 players teeing off at start time - even with all 72 players checked in one time.
Dollar shoots the course record on SAT, a 1084 rated 41 four hours after Josh Childs shot the course record 1073 rated 42 and was still trailing by 1.
Josh wins his 4 in a row.......but still better be ready in 2014 to sign up at midnight one day.
Al Fetta gets the only ace in 3 rounds on the shortest hole on the course #3 for 183 bucks!!
Jody McCall gets his 1st PDGA win in his 2nd Event on his Birthday weekend (SAT) and is already moving up to ADV for his 3rd Event :!:
Battle Royale in PRO Masters with the top 4 being the same names and within 4 strokes max first to fourth but changing positions each round with Brett Rousseau in the end taking the win.
4 GREAT ladies played and got 6 times their entry fees back in payout!
Thanks to Wes Campbell for the awesome selection of merchandise which along with his cash sponsorships on top of his Event discount makes him a complete joy to be associated with!!
Thanks to Nathan Skinner for his Awesome design which EVERY AM player got to see on each of their GLO CHAMPION Discs they received at check-in.......as well as the great work of the Disc Stalker crew on the 25 INNColor discs that went to the 18 sponsors, the Lorelei PDGA # winner, the designer, The Park Manager, Mark the Asst Park Manager and Course crew leader, as well as the remaining 3 that were purchased!!
Thanks to all the players that came and had a great time and I'm already looking forward to 2014!

TD Report sent, results are in in time for Ratings update.........which is good or bad for you all depending...........
