Missing Baskets

Postby mrpbody33 » Thu Jul 11, 2013 2:54 pm

A thread was started on DGCR and on Facebook but I thought I would post here as well. Baskets 8 and 10 have been stolen from the course. They were sawed off at their bases. Below is a picture courtesy of James McNaughton.

If anyone has any contacts with scrap metal guys in the area please let me know about the stolen property.

Does anyone else think this may be an inside job as in a disc golfer stole it? That looks too pro to have been done with a hacksaw used by a crackhead trying to sell it for scrap. It would take a long time to cut one of those pipes with a hacksaw, and that's way to clean of a cut. Just saying.

they make cordless saws that do that and they are on every jobsite and they are stolen from there everyday. It's not to hard for a local crack head to pick one up at the ol' pawn shop on the cheap if you know what I'm sayin'. I am hoping that someone that plays disc golf wouldn't do that or go to that much trouble just to get a basket.

Just seems like a lot of work for what little money you would get for scrapping this. How much could that be worth? $15-20? Had to have been two people or one strong person to carry that basket all the way back to the parking lot.

I am in Atlanta from out of town and played this course wednesday morning (july 10) and the baskets were missing. A local informed us of the missing baskets when we were searching for 8's basket. He said that 8 and 10 were missing baskets pretty nonchalantly as if they had been missing for quite a while...i don't expect this info to help but figured i'd throw it out there.

They were cut off with a pipe cutter - also available at many job sites and probably pawn shops.

Until the baskets are replaced:
-play holes 6 & 12 to the long pin positions (same basket)
-play holes 9 & 18 to the long pin positions (same basket)

Replacement of baskets are in the works. We don't want to do this too quickly as there may be more thefts.

Regardless of how they were stolen and who stole them, does the Redan group have money to replace them? If not I call on all dubs to take donations for the "Redan Basket Replacement Fund". I will be taking donations this Sunday at Deerlick dubs and will start the pot at $10. Everyone loves Redan and should help out with a fin or twin. Put your money where your mouth is!

Pnut worked a deal to purchase two old merriwether baskets for $400. Pnut (and crew?) donated $100 and the ADGO funds were used to cover the other $300. Problem solved!

A big thanks to John Ritger and the ADGO for the kind donation of $300 toward the replacement baskets. Thanks to Foxy's little red truck for transporting them and Wesley Matthews for the great deal on the baskets. Replacement baskets were installed on holes 7 and 9 on Saturday morning. Pnut Dubs has already raised $40 of the remaining $100 to pay for the baskets. WooooHoooo! 8)

I'd like to in Lorelei's name pay the remaining $60 - Let me know the address to mail the check to and I'll send it out as soon as I get the address.

Paul as much as that seems to make sense to you - I won't do that to be fair as I'm making a donation to the COURSE by paying for the remaining basket deficit that you had started raising money from with other Disc Golfers chipping in through P'Nut Dubs - and putting you in as you are asking only benefits you and NOT the COURSE. (hope that makes sense)
My point of sending the rest of the money in Lorelei's name was to help the course pay off what was still owed and having her get to see the good that Disc Golfers do when rallying together for the common good of a course, like what she saw for the first 2 years of the Wills redesign, her former Middle School course, the NGCT course and what has happened at "theP" over the last 5+ years.

You are welcome for the donation, and please let me know the address and who to make it out to and I'll send it as soon as I see it.

I was just trying to save us both some time Keith but i didn't mean to confuse you. Let me explain so there is no confusion. I've already paid Wes for the baskets using $300 from the ADGO and $100 out of my own pocket. I have raised $40 of the $100 by collecting $1 per player at Sunday Doubles. If you wish to donate the other $60, it would be much appreciated. Please make the check out to me and mail to

You did not confuse me as you did not say in your post that the money was from YOUR pocket. You said:

No where does that say it was your 100 dollars, so it would be hard to get confused about that..... but that was very kind of you to do!

I hope your good karma is returned to you in getting a spot at signup.

The check will be in tomorrows mail.
