Conditions update

Postby luke » Sun Apr 22, 2012 10:51 am

NOTE: The most current update below is in June, and a whole lot has improved since then. Now I'd rate it 2.9, still waiting to get a basket on 9.

MONTY CONDITIONS UPDATE, 4/22/12

A perfectly cleaned up Monty, with grass cut, etc, I rate at 5 stars. Currently, I would rate the conditions at the Monty as 2.5. My reasons are as follows:
1. Grass is not cut where you cross the street to go into the woods
2. Though we sprayed vegetations on most of the course, areas still need weed eating/clipping on many holes.
3. #9 basket is still not in the ground!...
4. #10 basket was moved to the short pin, negating the pad with the sign. I moved the pad back to the long position but haven't yet made a sign. The short pin is fairly easy, but the long was flooded and doesn't exist any more.
5. The grass needs cutting every where there's grass. It's not unbearable, but I'll need to start working on it soon.

Yesterday I spent a few hours clipping sweetgums. It's overwhelming, the amount of work I have to do. Anyone interested in adopting a hole, please let me know, even if several will adopt the same hole. Doing so means you control the look of the hole--even cutting down a few trees.

I'll update this update as I update the conditions on the course.

I began a second round of spraying today. Got 1-4 thoroughly, the first half of 5, 16 green, 17, and the hole that goes up by one (currently not in use, but will be for the tournament!)

Still a 2.5, though. WHolelottaworktodo.

Round four of spraying included old 12, current 12, 13, 14, 15.

That's pretty much the whole course! It's already taking effect: sweetgums are dead everywhere. Now to start lopping/clipping/mowing. Monty Conditions upgraded to a 2.8! Progress! Exclamation!

Today I cleaned up greens and expanded them on 1, 2, 3, and 4. I added literally a few hundred square feet of clean green before I got wore out and left some of the down sweetgums on 4 cuz I was hungry.

Yesterday was a good work day---10 total showed up. We expanded and cleaned up the greens of 1 and 2-again! Six Macon Aces took time out of work on the newly-installed giant Bowden to come and spruce up hole 9, which I believe they have formally adopted. They cut trees, sweetgums, and removed debris. Meanwhile, JPKL Moseley expanded the two green by dozens of square feet, clipping and sawing so much that you can now see the basket from the teepad. Then they moved the 10 teebox back 70+ feet, cutting trees to accomodate the throw.

Luke bush hogged 9 and part of 10 before he bent the axle or something on the tractor.

6/9/12

Crickey and I opened up the right side of the fairway, adding to the work the Macon Aces did. We took down 3+ trees, then moved the edge of the fairway back a few feet on the left side closer to the basket.

7, 13, 14, 15, 16 are next.

Got the entire left side of 13 clipped and picked up. Need only a chainsaw to pick up a few more pieces. This hole is going to look really good.

Finally, the course is cleaned up! Now I rate it at 4, with the best it can be a 5. That would include getting #9 back in the ground. Hopefully before too long.

Thanks to a group of lovely folks, the Monty got some love today. All holes are set up in the short for this weekend's pdga action. THe course is a little furry but completely playable and fun.
