I never thought I'd want to play a tournament just because of the name, but this changes everything.

Can't wait to hear more details.

Well sadly someone decided to flood the market with "Iron Leaf Open" discs so I am looking at other (possibly better) player's pack options.

There is always the short pad option I use there in the GSSS every year which Barry is familiar with which has fair fairways but still allows for scoring separation - if he wanted to use it - can''t remember if he did last year.

I'm thinking we'll play it from the short par 3 pad ... maybe Open will play from the long par 4 pad. Either way it's a fair hole.

From the long pad: nice, straight midrange down the middle with just a little fade and you're playing from or past the short pad which gives you a great shot at a bird.

From the short tee: Basket in left position: midrange/fairway driver on a slight hyzer line, maybe a tomahawk
Basket in right position: Whippet thumber

Sorry-can't convince me. It's blind luck on that hole. I probably have a better chance throwing eyes closed than hitting any 'line"

A scoring spread it indeed causes but its not because it is a challanging or risky hole. You either get through or you do not. I don't like holes that require a majority of luck to be successful. This is why I think a better hole for tournament play could be found/used.

I don't have any major issues with the rest of the course, but it's no secret that hole #2 has been found wanting. IMO it's an unfair hole.

I can see where you're coming from ... but I really do think it's not that bad of a hole. I've definitely seen worse fairways.

... but I also am quite biased as I play Hole 2 at least 4-5 times a week

Once again that would require luck-either good or bad. A good golf course should not have a hole that is based almost purely on luck-that's what I'm trying to say.

Here's a scenario. If you were tied for first and a playoff insued and you were still tied after the first hole, do you think hole 2 is a good representation of a playoff hole? Do you think that given how well the two of you had played for the tournament that hole 2 should be a part of the deciding factor?

From the concrete pad halfway down the fairway even with basket #1 and using the left pin position it is a very fair hole with 2 distinct fairways to the basket with scores of 2-4 at both years of the GSSS Events.

Daniel, have you played it that way on hole 2?

From the regular pad, I agree it is a crapshoot which is why in 4 years of using the course, I have and will never use that pad as there is 2-3 trees needed to be removed to create a fair fairway - but also knowing that the Park won't let the trees be cut, just as the city of Alpharetta won't let certain trees be cut at Wills Park - that you make do with what you are allowed to do.

From what I know and have heard, the original idea was for the pad to be there as trees were supposed to be planted for allowing trees to be cut on 2, but that got overturned at a later date, so it became what it was - and is today - a tee that people play, but not one that is usually used for events.

While the final hole format hasn't been finalized I will tell you that all divisions will be playing the short pad on hole 2.

I agree with Keith that the long pad just doesn't have a good fairway and needs a couple trees taken out to make it a viable tee.

I agree with Keith that the long pad just doesn't have a good fairway and needs a couple trees taken out to make it a viable tee.

So does this mean the event is still on and not being cancelled afterall?

Top post has been updated with online sign up info. Here it is in case you missed it: http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore ... 1317793539
Get those entries in quick so I can get the shirt order in right away.

I would like to thank Play It Again Sports in Fayetteville for once again being a Gold Level Sponsor! The Dickerson Clan also became a Silver Level Sponsor (they want that mystery gift). I would like to thank Lance Gregg who donated a CTP Prize to the tournament as well.

I am working weekends right now so I can't play, but I signed up for a sponsorship.
I would like to get a tee shirt and at least 1-2 of the tournament stamped disc.
Let me know the cost and how to get you the money.

Tournament might have possible free lunch

XXXL shirts do cost a little extra. Something like $3.00 more. I would have to double check. Of course you could throw in a hole sponsorship and we won't have any issues getting you that shirt. :D

I'm seriously considering signing up for this one, Mr. Barry -- have never played any of your "southern" courses before. But realistically, it all depends on if my arm is still attached to my body after throwing four rounds with you big dogs at Deer Lick this weekend. We'll see...

Whose gonna be there at PPIC you trust that I could give my $90 bucks to since you aren't playing this weekend?

I don't wear long sleeve shirts, and since no one is signed up in any division I play and you need 3, there is no incentive to me to signup before this weekend.

Players list has been updated!

Get those entries in! I am ordering the shirts this Wednesday so the only way to guarantee you will get one is to sign up now. And just so everyone knows that they are going to look like.

Image
The shirts will be grey Augusta Sportswear long sleeves.

Image
This will be printed on the back in black. Original artwork by Nathan Skinner!

Only 44 spots remain and tournament prices go up $5 on the day of.

I would like to thank my newest sponsors. Future World Champion Lorelei Johnson #13697, Rob Case and Scott Walker are all Silver Level Sponsors. Scott Vaughan as a Hole Sponsor. You guys rock!

Will anything be on the front? If not, I'd almost rather have the image on the front JMO.

I'll be there with a Sharpie to take care of that for everyone. It will be a $2 charge but I promise not to linger around the nipple.

Players list has been updated again. Rob Case moves up to Open (to give you guys in Advanced a shot). Big thanks goes out to Brad Orman for being a Hole Sponsor. :D :D :D

Sign up by tonight to get a Dry-Fit Shirt. Online signup ends this Friday.

I will be McCurry Dubs this Sunday if you would like to pay with cash or check. Come on down and get a look at the course. I will be moving things into tournament positions that day.

Online registration ends this Friday.

Come out to McCurry Dubs on Sunday to pay me in cash if you would like. I might even have the Mystery Gifts in by then so people can pick them up before the tourney.

$10 would be fun, but we'd probably lose a lot of people (there's some that only pay the $2 to play as is  )

So, I already signed up before playing this course but last week i was able to scout it out and wow I am in trouble, haha. But it should be fun and looking forward to it. I do have a couple questions:

1. parking? I only saw a small lot by #8 and some outside the park on the other side of #16 i believe. ARe these the best/only spots to park for this event?

2. Where will we be meeting at for the event HQ? I am unfamiliar with the park and area so just want to be sure i know where I am supposed to be.

3. When i played i only noticed the concrete pads but i see dgcoursereview some people say rec does have natural tees i guess i just over looked. So does rec have all diff tees or only those few you pointed out in your descriptions and the rest from concrete?

I guess thats it for now. Thanks!

The best place to park is right off McElroy Rd. See this link for a Google Map of the park. Otherwise you can park around the playground in the gravel or in the gravel beside the fairway to hole 7. Either way there is plenty or parking all around the park but these will be the closest options to Tournament HQ.
uh-oh wrote:2. Where will we be meeting at for the event HQ? I am unfamiliar with the park and area so just want to be sure i know where I am supposed to be.

Tournament HQ will be located at one of the pavilions near the playground between Hole 18 and Hole 1.

Pool 2 is playing all the concrete tee boxes except for Hole 8. Hole 8 has a short pad up on the hill almost adjacent to the pin for Hole 7. Flags were put out on Sunday marking the pad...hopefully they are still there.

Hole 17 390 ft Par 3
Both Pools tee to a basket ahead, and slightly right at the edge of the woods.
MANDO!! Must pass marked tree on LEFT SIDE. Missed MANDO MUST re-tee with 1 stroke penalty.
Road and beyond on right is OB.
To next tee both Pools turn left away from road, Pool 1 continues to tee area for #18, Pool 2 continues down fairway to flags 70 ft ahead.

As of last Sunday afternoon the Hole 11 long tee is marked with flags (and they were still there Wednesday night when I played). From 10's basket, the flags are quite visible. The tee is NOT the GSSS tee, it's probably 300ish ft. shorter.

I'm going out there but will have baby in tow-it could take 3 hours just to play through 6. I might not be the best practice partner, but if then again a baby helps you play through distractions

I have a few verbal commitments but I should still have space. Day of tourney signs go up $5...so Pro will be $60.

Great tourney, I had a blast. Barry, good job TDing.

Though I've got some thoughts on some potential distribution functions of ace fund throw-offs I'd be happy to discuss with you if you're interested. :ugeek:

Congrats to Barry for an excellent job of TD work. Nice using of things learned good and bad over the last few years to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone!

Props to Brett Porter for playing well with no wind in the second round.

I needed the 20MPH to stick around for another few hours.

Rubber Match for Brett and I (1 win each with the other 2nd in the last 3 weeks) at the next GSSS I guess since he'll be missing GCO.

Congrats also and welcome back to Dustin (I only win every C-tier I enter) Perry on his return to disc golf after 5 months off and picking up where he left off.

Score are up!

Thanks again to everyone that came out and participated. Definitely a lot smoother than last year and next year can only get better! I hope those long sleeve dry-fits keep everyone warm for the winter that approaches.

Huge thanks to Brian Lang, Greg Campbell, Keith Johnson, Brett Porter, the Dickerson Clan and the Fayette County Disc Golf Club for all their help. Derek Rader, Jason Hartley and Anthony Mosel were at the course at 7am and there were a great help setting things up. Lastly I would like to thank each of you that sponsored the tournament. If I forgot anyone it is on accident.

No round ratings for the peasant class, Mr. Barry? I'm tracking my gradual descent to 800 and the suspense is killing me...

No unofficial round ratings for recreational division because there weren't enough propagators for them to be generated. Once I submit the TD report they will calculate official round ratings for the next update.

Here are the detailed stats for each round.
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-A9zq ... UzOTdhZmVh

Couple interesting things. Even with the added length to Hole 11 making it a par 5 it still wasn't as hard of a hole as Hole 9. The scoring separation on Hole 10 was weak thus proving the long position is kinda boring.
