IDGC Global Disc Golf Tournament PDGA B-Tier August 20-21

Postby Ridesbrd » Fri Jul 08, 2011 11:30 am

The IDGC global tournament is approaching quickly, I have updated our website (http://www.pdga.com/IDGC/events)
with the need to know information. This event will be unlike any other that has been held at the IDGC. Aside from competing against players on a global and local level, there will be other other differences to the normal IDGC tournament structure.

-Tee times will be 9am both days to lessen the impact of the late day heat!

-All 3 rounds of the event will be played on the Steady Ed Headrick course.

-ONLINE REGISTRATION ONLY (NO in person, mail in, or day of registration will be
offered for this event)

http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore ... 1310148291

-Optional Random Draw Doubles on Sunday afternoon after the awards ceremony, to
be played on the Jackson course- $10

-Divisions are limited to: All Pro, Advanced, Advanced Women, Advanced Masters,
Intermediate

Stay tuned for your link to online registration!

The event is new this year and def has some potential, they are giving away a bunch of spots for the USDGC based on the global if that matters to anyone this year.

Vegas and Maple Hill are doing 3 rounds in one day, and Dodge moved his to Sunday so they can technically be the last round late on Sunday night. It sounds like we will have some sort of "live scoring" thoughout the weekend as events report in after each round.

Reminder:

$25 of the PRO entry fee and $15 of the AM entry fee will go twords global payout (AM's will most likely only receive a nice players pack from the global payout), the rest will remain in the local payout.

So, how will global payout be done? How can you determine who shot better than who when so many different courses are being played? I mean, just as an example, -6 at ERP is not better than a -5 at DeLaveaga. Am I missing something and this is just a stupid question?

Are the points from the tourney going to global as well? Do we get point from the local tourney and then additional points from beating our global competitors?

It is based off of ratings, and the courses used have to fall within a certain SSA rating as well which should make it more fair i guess. This is why we are using Steady Ed..........

Good Question, I did the online signup web form on pdgasignup.com almost 7 days ago, it really shouldn't take this long for the fulfillment house to process it.

FYI Just got off the phone with Chuck and it looks like the ED will have to be set in mostly short positions to attain the correct SSA for this event. I am trying to get the best layout possible to increase our local chances of cashing and winning the Global part of the event.

I will set all pin placements for the event this week to give players a chance to practice the exact pin positions.

The Steady Ed Layout is now posted, http://www.pdga.com/IDGC/events

We will be using a mix of long tees and red tees, I really didn't have many options with regards to hitting a certain SSA for the global portion of the event. From the long tees we would have had to play every pin short which is just kinda boring, so we are throwing in 7 of the rubber red tees to the B positions.

The course will be set and available to practice starting this afternoon!

I heard the layout is kinda wack, with some of the "short" tees lacking a defined fairway and some of the angles a little silly. Is the layout you have now set in stone?

In order for it to work all the courses need to have similar SSA ratings. Of course I think a virtual pool for a points bonus would be awesome. You could make this world wide event huge just by doing that. That way it could be a points bonanza for those players looking to qualify early for Worlds. I got a virtual pool bonus from Bowling Green Amateur Championships which gave me more an enough qualify for Charlotte next year. Having a tourney closer to home that could give me a similar points payout would draw my attention and my money.

Just a thought.

lolscottyO

You are only playing 7 red tees and they are prob the best ones, I feel the course sets up pretty fun actually. All the tees have a defined fairway, my only complaint about them is the construction at this point. Some are having issues with the ground settling, run off getting under the pad, and the rubber expanding and contracting.

If i were you i would show up as i'm adding $500 to the pro purse per B-tier rules and am not expecting very many Open players.

I'm trying to get off work for it. But if I don't put in some practice before then I'll just be added cash! Regardless, I'm really hoping to attend. I got a more detailed scouting report from the ScrOdum and he said it's not so bad. :)

I wouldn't really call it a handicap, as to me a handicap is adding to or taking away from your total score. This is more of a shoot your score and get rated based on the conditions and course SSA. Then add your three round ratings for a total sum, which would be your final score. This is how I understand the process, if you are seeing something different please correct me.....

The way I read it the round rating minus your current PGDA rating equals your score. All scores are kept in your division. some examples as I understand it...

Group "A" has 2 players and both players have a final stroke score of 60, which gives them a round rating of 940.

Person 1 playing Intermediate with a rating of 900 shoots 3 rounds rated at 940. 940-900= 40, 40x3=120 so 120 would be his final point total.
Person 2 playing Intermediate with a rating of 890 shoots 3 rounds rated at 940. 940-890=50 50x3=150 so 150 would be his final point total.
player 2 wins 1st place.

correct me if i'm wrong....

From the PDGA site

- The round ratings earned by each player in three 18-hole rounds on the same course will be added together to produce each player's global point score to determine global standings and prizes in the division they entered.

It has nothing to do with your rating.

However, the USDGC spots will be awarded based on handicapped results that do include your rating.

Global update 2: The fly pads are a little better when dry. Also tourneys run at the IDGC are apparently run very well! Payout was over less than 30 minutes after the last card was in! I was glad to hang out in the A/C on the couch and wait to find out that I finished 1 shot out of the money.

Global update #3 - Thanks to Jason and all the PDGA staff for another great tourney. One of my favorites for the year! Always get to play with good folks from the North and South Cakalackeys, meet new players, celebrate birthdays, and visit Matt Flynn's bar. I'm always suprised how many tournament "regulars" in Georgia don't frequent the IDGC. You cats are missing out.

While I'm on it, we are lucky to have the PDGA headquartered in GA. From the crap I read on the PDGA discussion board and general board negativity, the actual environment and people that run things in Appling is so much better than they ever get credit for. Disc golf is played in the woods by a Motley Crue and some of the nicest people you get to run across. Enjoy it and get yo ass to Augusta next time! Double McFlurry time 8)

Areed that this was agreat event. I only wish I had played beter. Worst tournament showing from me in a long time. My only hope is that this round be submitted in time for the ratings update so that I have a better chance of doing well at the USDGC.

Thanks Jason for putting on this event. I hope that we can continue to have these global tournaments. I think it is a really great idea. I would like to see points awarded for global standings however. That way qualifying for world's would be easier. It might also ensure a full field as well. Allthough for the life of me I have no idea why there wasn't a stronger showing from the Atlanta crowd. The IDGC is on our backyard and it is truly wonderful!

Thanks again,

Daniel

Thanks Guys! I really appreciate the feedback, and I also agree on the fly pads, they have been very difficult to work with. I had to pull all the pads up that we were using for the tournament, re rake out the cinders, and re tamp. They are getting trashed from the rain and erosion, i have no idea how to keep them in shape. I will never ever recommend rubber tees over concrete when doing or helping with new course installations.

We strive to bring you guys a fun and smooth tournament experience, it is very rewarding to read the positive comments and will keep me going strong till the PDGA Championships. Come back to see the improvements, including staked out OB on the Jackson course and maybe some of the shore line on ED!!!!
