I like things simple, so like last year there will only be two divisions offered. But I realize that the bulk of our players don't fall into that PRO or ADV category. So, this year the two divisions offered will be Pro and INT. If you are rated below 935 then INT is an option, and I'm hoping to have a big field.

I hope the other ADV players will play PRO along with the Pro Masters and Grandmasters to make a very big PRO division.

Both PRO and INT will pay HALF THE FIELD!!!!

ALL WOMEN WILL GET PAID!!! (and this year the Pro Women will also have a Trophy)

To quote Rand, we are gonna have "more action than a dog track" at Hotlanta.

HOTLANTA is gonna have a Super CTP Bonanza! Think Fright Flight style side action with (hopefully) more cash and definitely more than one winner on every single Hole!

Now, for those of you that are short on cash but still want to sponsor HOTLANTA, here is your chance!!!

I would like to get at least One Nice Disc for each hole to be an extra CTP.

Basically we will have at least two different color flags on each hole as CTPs. One for the cash CTP, and one for the disc CTP. You will not be able to take both. Details are still being finalized so more info to come.

If YOU have an extra CFR Disc or just something nice sitting around and wasting space, please Donate it to this CTP Insanity!!! Just let me know if you can commit a disc or two! Thanks for the support!

Not having a fit, but I've never been a hole sponsor if not - but I understand if there is no love for the team leader - as Vach IS his touring buddy

I have some highly overpriced (according to BP  ) CFR's I can donate, and if I do well at Worlds, I may come out of retirement to donate my entry and use the "I hate old guys format" as practice for the Vibram (We hate Old Guys also - especially if they come in 2nd) Open the following weekend.

I'll have them with me at GSSS #5 obviously - so you can pick the 3 you want to use - as long as you PROMISE to use one for Lorelei's / Vach's Hole.

Hey Team Leader, if you want to sponsor a hole then you can have hole 6. Vach is not attached to it, and is probably not aware his name was ever on that hole. Anyway, Thank you for the disc donations! And if you want to play, I will sponsor half of your entry. Thanks for always helping me out!

We will be trying the "All Star Layout" at J.P. Moseley tomorrow around 11am. I do believe some kind of ACTION is gonna take place. Maybe doubles if we get enough people, or skins if we don't, or singles if we have a bunch of bag taggers there. The stakes will be small. The fun will be big.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us. We'll be meeting at hole 1.

Sorry, miscommunication... A $49.95 CFR is only overpriced for an unsanctioned Disc Caddie event, not one of them there fancy sanctioned events

Speaking of miscommunication - I've been carrying around a piece of paper to show you for several weeks - having missed seeing you at the 2 Oregon Park functions I've been to in the last 6 weeks, it will have to wait until sometime next month or this year.

Dollar - I appreciate your offer, and we can settle up at Haywood next SAT,

No, although it is mostly gold/black. There is a discussion about it here, but it is going to be modified after playing it yesterday.

Info posted on DGCR...

I definetly plan on playing.

Thanks Dollar for carrying the torch. I'm glad that Hotlanta lives. It can always have a home at JPM. In the future I would like it to include (in no particlar order): Perkerson, McCurry, Redan, Indian Creek, The Monty.

Running a tournament is unselfish and time consuming. Please continue to support all that give us the luxury of enjoying disc golf in a competitive setting...

"All-star Layout" is tough for us puny arms, though... Might have to bust out the double secret probation Cowabunga Jai Alai drive :shh:

Completely aware of that, walked the course with dollar... just that moving to the blue saves about 75-100 ft making it a really long 4 some 870 ft I think (JPZ correct?). Not trying to argue the layout, we all play the same course so doesn't bother me, just want to make sure that is the layout....

Josh original proposal
"Hole 9 from the blue tee is also a great shot & allows more of a eagle/birdie chance. That tee makes it easier to land in the OB walk path or miss the ideal landing spot for your next shot"

No eagle chance if it's a 4.

A nice bomb drive & super stinky field ace/drive might happen, that would result in a 2 Eagle.

That is true but par for the course will slightly effect player ratings once they become official.

absolutely correct sir! Can't all canon it out there like you can. Was just wondering if that was your intention... eagle 2. I will be down for whatever layout, bring it on!

I allways think that going over the silt fence on 9 is punishment enough. It usually costs a stroke just to get out of there and throw a bad out shot it costs 2.

But people will play the hole differently with the fence being out of bounds. Without it, it scores like a Blue Level par 5, but a Gold Level Par 4. I have never seen anyone miss the Mando, so that's not much danger. But now the 2nd and maybe 3rd shot will demand accuracy and control to remain in bounds. I think this is a fantastic hole with all the O.B. Otherwise, i would guess 90% of the pro field would make a 4. One guy might make a 3, one might make a 5, but the scoring differential is lacking a good spread.

UPDATE

We are getting closer and closer to Hotlanta, and things keep looking better and better. I have been blessed with tons of friends in my disc golf family and they are helping me out big time. Here's what's going on...

-I only need 4 more hole sponsors!

-I have received some super sweet discs for the Super CTP Bonanza! I am pumped about this side action!!!

-Due to my very limited disc golf schedule right now, I probably won't be at any events with the CFRs before Hotlanta. They are gonna be sweet though. After hole sponsors and people who have already payed for one, there should be less than 20 available at the event.

-I'm working towards making this event the most fun I can possibly make it. If you have any suggestions or questions please send me a PM.

 HOTLANTA

Ok - you first put Vach on Hole 6 - then you opened it up for Lorelei - On SAT you picked up the 3 CFR discs and cash (through swap) for Sponsorship - and now today after updating the list you have Rob Case on Hole 6, Lorelei not on the list and the GSSS in the discs list. Everything donated /sponsored is from the Future World Champion Lorelei Johnson #13697

What else do you need from me so Lorelei is on hole 6?

I'll be going to Worlds this weekend and looking for a vehicle during this week, but just give me a call and let me know and I'll be happy to do it. (I guess according to Greg I would now be pitching a fit, since I thought it was already worked out after your post on July 22nd)

I obviously did not read the July 22nd post. I am also not attached to hole 6. I just wanted to sponsor one of the shorter holes that would be reachable with a ROC. I will gladly move my sponsorship to hole 16 so that Lorelei remains on hole 6. I hope that works for everyone...

Not mad at you Rob - obviously it's that waffling Dollar who will sellout Lorelei's hole to anyone!

Glad to see you you are ok with it.

Hopefully, since Dollar has sold almost every hole now - he is running out of other names to put on Hole 6.

Players list updated... 17 Pros and counting... and every single player signed up lives in Georgia!! :!: Impressive. But help pass along the word to our SC TN FL and AL buddies and Hotlanta could have a really huge pro field!! :D :D

Of those 17 "PROS" almost 1/2 of them are rated under 935.

Really think any of those guys have any chance of cashing?

Well Mike, since you don't have your thinking cap on, let's do some math for your benefit.

If half the field is rated under 935, and I'm paying out half the field, I'd be willing to bet that at least one of them will beat someone rated above 935, and then they will cash.

BTW- I started playing Pro before I had a rating. My 1st rating was 934, and I cashed before my rating got to 940. I was gonna look up your rating when you went Pro, and then your rating when you flaked back down, but the PDGA site is slower than you math. Sorry I'm not offering Adv GrandBagger or whatever division you have to have in order to play.

On another note, the CFR's are frickin Sweet! I have 28 left. If I sell all the CFR's before the event begins, Then I will play the tournament with only the 5 Hotlanta CFRs that I bought!

Dollar,

Ouch, whats wrong?? Little touchy??

Just saying that if you pay half the field and those guys cash, then what??

They take the cash and turn Pro with a rating that low?? GOOD LUCK!!
or
Are you doing some kind of option where they can get merch??

I know you want to have a good PRO payout and I understand your thinking behind your madness, BUT I think you are going about it the wrong way.

Am I going to play??? Probably, if I can get away that Sunday. (some of us have family and a life outside discgolf)

Will I cash?? Probably not. If I do I will turn down the cash so in reality I am just donating $60.00. Kinda hard to swallow in this economy, double hard since my wife is not working right now.

Looking at the Pre-Reg, where are all the Advanced players??

Guess they either are not signed up yet or do not want to donate their cash to you "TOP PROS"

I used to run the tournament in Rome and the way I got a decent payout for the Pros was to get local businesses involved.

No matter what, I harbor no ill feelings towards you or "Hotlanta"

Good luck,

Mike D

Mike,
He's only offering Pro and Int. It's kind of an anti-bagger/make sure there's a big Pro purse maneuver..

Mike,

Your post is very uneducated!

1. Ams playing Pro can always take merchandise instead of cash and keep their Am status.

2.Of course I want to have a good pro payout, everyone should. But I'm not getting that good payout by robbing anyone of anything. I expect this to be a very fun event for everyone.

3. As for your "some of us have a life other than disc golf" line, that was also an uneducated jab in my direction. A couple of months ago I started a new job where I work 6 days a week. Since then I play MAYBE once or twice a month. The only part of my life involved in disc golf right now is running this event.

4."where are all the ADV players?" Um, This is a Pro/Int only event, all of the ADV players are playing Open. Remember, those are the guys you were hating on in your original post because they ventured outside of the Am divisions. When MPO, MPM, and MA1 are mixed into one division, it creates opportunities for more people to cash.

5. $60 is hard to swallow, but it's a pretty standard Pro entry fee. (Last week in Birmingham they had a one day event with a $90 entry.)

Honestly, I don't care how many people play in my event. It's gonna be an awesome time for all in attendance, regardless of the number. I have a group of awesome people supporting me and this event, so I already know it will be a success.

Are you offering trophy-only for MA1 players moving up to Open? If I understand correctly, they would pay a reduced entry fee but not be eligible for any payouts.

And you guys wonder why people don't want to run tournaments.
Matt is setting up a sweet event with great payouts for both divisions.
There will be prize CTP's and cash CTP's for all divisions that are more than your entry fee.
If you cash as am AM in the Open divisions I am sure Matt has made arrangements for you to get some merch from one of our many local dealers.
So support one of the best players in Georgia and come play Hotlanta.

Postby roctwo » Sun Aug 14, 2011 12:20 pm

I typically try as desperately as possible to keep drama out of my disc golf, but I have to get involved in this thread. A good friend of mine recently posted this to Facebook: Scott Renshaw's review of the Smurfs movie on Fox 13's Good Day Utah was hilarious. He said instead of going to see it, "...light $40 on fire and shake your children for 100 minutes." I am starting with this quote to make a serious point about disc golf tournaments. All forms of recreation cost money and in many instances you get little to nothing in return. I have left concerts and over heard people say "Well there goes three hours of my life I will never get back!" I have NEVER felt that way about disc golf tournaments! Regardless of whether I "cash" or not, I always have a GREAT time! I am a very competitive person, but that is only one of the reasons that I buy into disc golf tournaments. Spending an entire day (or two) playing the sport I love, reconnecting with my disc golf brethren, and making new disc golf friends are my primary motivations for playing tournaments. I have an enormous amount of respect for people like Dollar, Keith Johnson, Bob Pressley, Grease, John Ritger, etc that give generously of their time and effort to make sure that I get to play tournaments frequently in my home state of Georgia. If you find yourself dissatisfied with the way an event is run but you personally have never run a tournament, then step up and run the best damn tournament you can the way you want to. Chances are that the disc golf community will support you and play in it. Otherwise...appreciate the enormous amount of work that goes into running a tournament, buy into the event, show up, and have a great time!

$ What should I do if I want to be moved up to Open? I signed up before you had posted the players list and I was unaware of what the field was going to look like. Should I just tell you now and bring the extra cash to tourney, also MrFixit will be giving a few discs for your CTPs and I will be bringing those.

Hotlanta has all 18 holes sponsored!!!! These guys are the best! :D

I still have lots of CFRs but no way to move them since I'm always at work. I will be sending a few CFRs to the IDGC Global event this weekend. See Bryan Gort or Vach to get one this weekend.

Online registration ends tomorrow! Sign up to secure your spot! If you are gonna play, make my life a little easier and sign up online!

The final details of the CTP Bananas Bonanza Blowout are still coming together.

-Lots of cash and prizes will be won, and hopefully with very little chaos.

-There will be a $1 buy-in ctp on 15 holes.
-The other 3 holes will be part of a Free Cash Ctp Corner for everyone.

-The Ctps for Plastic will be loaded with Sweet stuff. There will be a small buy-in (probably $3) with 18 chances to win. Most holes (if not all) will have at least 2 discs as the prize.

Most, if not all ctps will be for both rounds.

I cant wait. I'll see everyone at The Mose a week from Sunday.

If you plan on playing and did not sign up online, please let me know you are coming so I can make a card for you. Thanks!

And BTW, I have plenty of CFRs left to be sold the day of the tourny, and all the money from them will go straight into the pro purse.

I would also like to thank the 2 artists that did this years Hotlanta designs. Dusty Jones did the design that appears on the CFR discs, and Nathan Skinner designed the logo on the Tee Signs. Both designs also appear on the scorecards.

Only a week until Hotlanta!

Well I will have to miss this event.

As a few of you know, I shoot local football games as a part time job in the fall and this week I have 4 assignments. Thursday, Friday, and a double header on Saturday. So Sunday I'll be slaving away editing film for the MAN! lol

Dollar wanted to give you a heads up. Thanks for putting on the event; Always have much respect for anyone who decides to try their hand as TD. Shame I gotta miss the event in my own backyard, but bills gots to be paid. (and Xmas is right around the corner).

The Moze is showin' out for the 2011 Hotlanta!

Postby Here4Beer » Mon Aug 22, 2011 4:14 pm

Grass is cut short and most of the pins appear to be in place for next Sunday. I can't tell if the 12 basket is in "short" or "new/temp" position but it's definitely mo' betta.
Suggestion: a lemonade stand staffed with Hooters girls next to the island on #11. They could also offer a recharge on sunscreen 8)

If it don't fill up, people are missing out!

Dollar,

Could you please confirm that what is listed below in red will be the layout played which was last updated on 7/31? - since there was talk of 12 and other hole possibly moving since then - I'm just curious over the REAL layout.

Thanks in advance,
Keith

Something like this....

1. -Par 4-Long tee
2. -par 3-Long
3. -par 3- Long
4. par 3- Long Tee
5. -par 3- Old Cement tee
6. -par 3- long
7. -par 3- Long tee, short Pin
8. -par 5- Long to long, (there is no water in creek so it looks like only the path will be o.b.)
9. -par 5- Cement Tee (the Path is O.B., the Mando is in effect, the BLACK SILT FENCE is O.B. , and after you make the Mando, Path and beyond is O.B.)
10. -par 3- Middle Tee
11. -par 3- long
12. -par 3- Short (possibly temp pin at bottom of hill)
13. -par 5- Long
14. -par 3- normal
15. -par 3- short pin
16. -par 3- normal
17. -par 3- Long
18. -par 4- Long Tee to long pin

Par 62

The only difference from what is posted there, is that on hole 10 we will play from the Long tee to a Temp pin which is around 285ft.

Hole 12 will be playing to the new, permanent short pin at the bottom of the hill. I believe the basket has been there since it was recently installed.

And FYI- The Field of Screams on the right side of hole 18 is gonna be O.B.

Rope will be needed on the back side of 13.
There is no water in the creek, but it usually plays as - in or beyond the creek is ob

Hole 10 will be about 70 shorter then? sill straight ahead, to the right, or left?
I'll see 12 Sunday I guess as it was already at the bottom of the hill before - is it now even with #10 short tee?

For those not local - is the field of screams the always OB Football field, or the lunar landscape pit?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Keith

Hole 10 is closer to 150ft shorter.

Hole 12's new pin is also around 150 shorter.

The field of Screams is the Lunar Landscape.

I really think on or over the path on holes 10 and 12 should also be OB. Also on or beyond the path on #13 (behind the basket) should be OB. Basically play what the tee signs say...There are no running creeks as of this writing so I don't know if you want to make beyond the creek on 13 OB.

Football fields are always OB (No Barry Shultz here), and if football is playing the pin will have to be short. Have you seen Keith throw lately :eh: :problem: :wtf: :silent:

As far as I know, there is only one concrete tee on 15, and we are playing it to the short pin.

There are lots of late dawgs trying to get in to Hotlanta. It is extremely important you let me know if you want to come because we might fill up before Sunday!

In addition, the CTP Bonanza was handled very well. Thought it might be a bit confusing, but it was very easy to follow.
