New work at the Monty, Part I

Postby luke » Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:12 pm

TODAY, June 3:

---I cut up down trees on 1
---I cut up down trees on 2
---I cut up down trees on 3.

This is the beginning of me trying to get it cleaned up for a tournament this summer. Anyone feels like helping, you'll be awesome.

Today, June 7

Dandaman May came down with a chainsaw. We cut all the trees that need to be cut on 2 of the 3 new long "IDGC" type holes, as I've heard more than one person call them. Limbsawed and lopped a lot, too. When it got hot, we went to a shady hole---a new one by the old 11 fairway. This hole will be freakin' awesome.

I can confirm that there are some great looking new holes out there, but there is also quite a bit of clearing of the fairways that needs to be done in order to making the course playable again. If anyone can find the time please help Luke out and voluenteer some time at the Monty. Everyone will appreciate it!

Today June 11

I cleared debris from holes 1 and 2. I cleared debris partially from hole X, off of old hole 11.

I started a log path between 2 basket and 3 pad.

Today June 14

Dan and I planned, cut (Dan brought the only chainsaw; I used his fancy loppers for the little stuff), and cleared a new hole that is where the "Walkway to Seven" used to be. All debris is off the ground except in a 25' radius of where the basket will be.

This hole will likely be #9 for the tournament.

June 18

Clunck, Randy, Pete, and Grease came down and helped me Saturday. We cut new #16, which plays to the old 12 basket placement (the hole before the last long one in the woods).

This signals the end of the "major" work. The rest of it is trimming and cleaning up, not to mention direction/tee signs.

June 21--Today I cut and cleaned up the walkway from 2-3, 3 teepad and fairway and around basket, 4 from teepad to pin, , walkway to five, old hole 7, walkway from old 7 to old 8.

The course is quite playable again, but only the old layout. I don't have pin placements for the new holes yet.

June 22

Today I Painted direction signs, then hung them on the course, specifically between 2-3, 4-5, old 6-7.

I dug the first pin placement today on new 16.

I picked up debris on the green of new 16.

June 23

I painted direction signs.

I began painting tee signs for the new holes.

I dropped a pin on new #15.

I moved 15 basket from the trailer hole to "hole X".

I moved 18 basket from 18 middle pin to the trailer hole.

I dug the hole for 14 pin.

All this in the rain! IT was much easier than in the heat.

June 24

I lugged 17 basket into the woods and put it on the Woodpile Hole.

I placed a pin in the hole I dug yesterday on number 14.

I dug the hole for the #13 pin.

I should probably add that every time I drop a pin, I have to carry a bucket of concrete, a jug of water, and a pin. Getting these out to the hole are a whole lot tougher than actually dropping the pin in the ground.

Now the course is numerically messed up until I'm through with this, which should be some time next week. The numbers begin to jump around, 11 is in the new 14 spot, 13 comes after 17, and there are four holes next to each other that don't flow at all (weren't meant to): 11, 12, new 15 and new 16 (same pin as 12, different fairway).

June 28

I dropped the last two pins in the ground---6 and 7. 6 has its basket as well.

I hung direction signs from 6 to 7, 7 to 8, 13 to 14, 14 to 15, 15 to 16, and 16 to 17.

I cleaned up the green area across the creek on new 15. I log lined the path to 16's pad.

I "installed" pads on new 15 and new 16----red and orange rocks. They do not have tee signs yet.

I prepped some of the old signs for new hole numbers by painting over the old ones.

The park guy let me borrow the ATV, so I was able to move 5 baskets today. That leaves only one out in the open, number fourteen. It's only still there because it was stuck in its pin.

July 5

I moved 14 basket-- The new layout is complete!

I marked and cleaned up teepads for 6, 7, 9, 13, 14.
I installed signs on 6, 7, 9, 13, 14.
I cleaned up and defined walkways with signs---5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 12-13, 13-14.

July 12

I picked up on 18. The park has agreed to mow it!

I cut storm damaged trees that have been getting in the fairways on 4, 6, 15.

I cut back a few trees and cleaned up on 7. There's still some stuff to pick up.

I cut a few trees close to 6 pin, cut up pines on the ground, clear cut the walkway and lined it.

I cut trees down at the creek on 15, then cut a 3 small pines that were guarding the basket.

I cleaned up the walkway from 14 to 15.

I cleaned up the walway from 5 to 6.

I made a walkable path down 13's fairway. It still needs work.

What will I be wearing? Gold Bond, if the 23rd is anything humid like today was. Jeez! I'm using my daughter's diaper rash ointment. Seriously.

July 14 Bastille day! (ain't it?)

I cleaned up the green on 14. It could always use more work.
I lined the walkway from 14 to 15.
I sprayed herbicide on 16, from the green to Pete's Corner.
(I don't like to use it, for the record, but sometimes I'll cut corners if I don't have time.)
I adjusted the teepad for 17 and cut down a piece of a tree near 6's teepad.
I cut up and removed most of a down tree on 11.
I cleaned up some on the green for # 9.

July 17

Wade came out this morning and did some "Selective pruning" and some remeasuring. Also, an Oconee County group came out and played, and as they played, they cleaned up debris. THanks, guys, though these seem like little things, every time you do a little thing on the course, it opens me up to do something else.
