Central Park Grand re-opening - CANCELLED - EPIC FAIL!!!

Postby Funky Bobby J » Tue Oct 12, 2010 8:25 am

We just got killed by the park...financially. Wes Campbell and I will return sponsorship and donated items. Thanks to those that have contributed. We hope to try it again next year depending if we can renegotiate a better agreement with the park next year.

And a quick shout out to every TD out there and to anyone who has run action at CP - THANK YOU!!!! What a pain in the ass!!!!

I'll definitely be working on offering card hook-ups for this one-round event. You can either write it on your entry form or we'll try to accomodate what we can day-of. If there are a couple of folks that you want to have in your group, let me know at registration or day-of and we'll work it out.

We are starting to get some registrations trickling in. Thanks to all the people that have let me know that they are sponsoring a tee-sign. We have at least 4 juniors that are planning to sign up. I know that there is a lot of action popping up - I hope that you will put this tourney on your calendar and support the club and a first-time TD. If you have not played Central in a while, I think that you will be surprised at the mix of holes that the park has now. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

We'll be playing the new 17 and 18. Hole 17's fairway needs a little more work, but it is definitely playable now and should be in good shape for the tourney. The new holes add a lot more variety to the course. It gives Central 14 wooded holes out of 27 and some of the new tee pads and such bring woods into play on the 13 semi-wooded and open holes. Get your registrations and sponsorships in!!!!

You need to get your registrations sent in the next few days if you want to sponsor a sign and get a long-sleeved tee shirt. Keep the registrations coming. Thanks for your support!!!

Any clue on the length of the course red vs. white?

So many things are changing that we are supposed to have the course GPS'd soon (early next week). I'll post the lengths as soon as I get them. It is pretty significant. You can look at the old score card on the Central thread and get an idea. I think the spread will be a little more now.

I hope that we get a chunk of poeple that have not played there in a few years or never it all. I think that they will be pleasantly surprised. It's a really diverse track.

I should have flyers at the GCO.

Cool. I will wait for the totals to decide but let's say the whites are too short, if my wife wanted to play should she just play as a dude?

Absolutely - but the white are really fun. It is not a pitch and putt course (although there are some pretty short holes). As I said earlier, I am happy to accomodate score card hook ups the day of. Pick your crew and you guys can play together.

Lorelei said she would sponsor her hole if it is across the creek.

Let me know please so I can send the check.

It's the only way to play that hole - our signature hole will be played across the creek (and it's yours for the taking).

When mentioning most stuff would be short is why I asked - glad it will be where it belongs.
It is the signature hole when not in Supersized layout for sure - A to B is the best looking hole at Central from the RED tee.

I'll just give you my money at GCO since you'll be there - was only gonna mail it because I didin't see you at Fayette yesterday (why weren't you playing in 27 degree weather? )

Looking forward to seeing my old home course again!

I agree 12A to B is a great hole. The purpose of the tournament is to get a few folks up our way who have not played CP in a while and associate it with a boring wide open bombers' course. Supersizing anything does not lend itself to our goal. The course has evolved a lot in the last 5 years. With decent pads, and a little cooperation from the park - it'll definitely warrant a tournament on it's own merit without supersizing anything.

Whoa Nelly - hold on there - we are in agreement with each other.
I back what you and the club have done/ been doing / are still doing with Central and I enjoy playing there.

I just commented on signature hole status (agreeing with you) and it has NOTHING to do with what you are doing on the 21st.

You and others fears about me running anymore Events there are not needed as I will not be dealing with that park for Events as long as the management there remains hostile to Sanctioned tournament golf Events.

The Forsyth Club (of which I'm a member of) can do whatever they wish to and I will support it 100% as I have always done.

Carry on and I'll see you Saturday and give you the money.

Don't take it as an epic fail on your part. You, Dave, and many others have worked hard for this. The fail is on the Parks Dept.

Is there a contact email that we can all write to and let them know our disappointment?

Probably won't do a thing but may keep someone busy all day hitting delete.

This Sunday is Red-Tee doubles, everyone should come out and see the park regardless of the tournament getting shot down. If the Forsyth County Disc Golf Club had a bake sale, I think the P and R department would put the kibosh on it.

We got an unexpected bill to use the course - it was one of those things that the park insinuated that it was no big deal and then turned out to be a deal breaker. WE need to renegotiate our contract as a club with the park soon anyway and hope to resolve the matter. Plans are to run a tournament next year as an Icebowl or XC. It will behoove us to get some firm commitment from the park anyways for ongoing projects. There were almost no registrations and very few inquiries - a product of the amount of action around the same time. I hope that this ends up being a positive in the long run - we will make it happen. I am probably as much to blame as the park. I learned a lot and will be better prepared next time - I just jumped in when asked because I cannot help with the physical labor very often. I really appreciate those that offered to step up and help - hope to take you up on it soon.
