This sounds awesome. I've been hoping a for a Match Play type Major. Thanks for TDing our region Rand.

I have a couple of questions.
1- What world ranking system are they using for the top 32? I would think the PDGA World Rankings but I thought it might be Prime Discs World Rankings since it looks like they are behind it.
2- The map of the regions isn't big enough to determine where the borders actually go. Is there a bigger map or a description of the region borders?

3- What date/dates are you guys looking at for the IDGC, so we can get this into our scheduling and planning for the year.

I've always been told "not to play with matches", now I see this "match play" thing. I'm confused?!?!

Sounds like fun though!

Looks like it needs to be in september? If i could make a suggestion the Friday before the Augusta Classic at IDGC would be a great time to do it. Otherwise it looks like it may have to be the first weekend, but most of those guys come down for the classic....ie orrick, schustrick, florida guys, ATL pros...... just an idea.

Doesn't look like the regions really matter too much other than where a tourny will take place..........

"Can I play in multiple regionals?"

"Yes. You do not need to live in a specific region to play in that areas Regionals."

Officially, the South-eastern Player's Cup qualifier will be held at the IDGC on September 17th Friday. This is the day before the Augusta Classic. Plan to make it. If you make the finals in Florida there will be a great chance to make some money. $20,000 purse to spread around 62 players, not to bad.

So I tried figuring out how to register for the regional today. It still says on their site that registration should have opened today at noon. also, the prime discs world rankings link is bad so who knows who is in the top 32. You would think with only 18 spots available for the regional they would make sure everyone knew when it opens.

$ i have been trying to finalize all my information as well, for the Augusta classic website and flyer. I emailed Mike Barnett yesterday and he said they are still trying to recover from the VO and should have the information up soon. I also have a call in to Rand, to try to figure out the day of registration and start times for my flyer and website. Call me Rand! :)

We are also having the Fall Summit for the BoD that Thursday and Friday.......therefore we cannot use most of the building on Friday.

Tried to contact Dollar - no phone service at this time, tried to call Vach but he had a 4 second (not kidding) time to leave message.

So for them and anyone else who wished to play - here is the link:
http://www.vibramdiscgolf.com/playerscu ... ation.html

it only went live at 9:30 PM and there was only 24 spots for the 5 states in the region - so I wish everyone luck -I have done what I could to let people know by posting here.

Good luck!

The Player's Cup Regional Qualifier format has changed. Double elimination 9 hole match play challenges is what will will be doing. The cost is $50 with proceeds going to the Finals to be held in FLA in Nov. This is a great chance to compete (if you qualify) in a big tournament with BIG payouts. The top three players will make it to the finals.

The Player's Cup one liner = "If you're scared say you're scared"

For those that may not be scared but are a bit nervous, we will do an on site random seeding to determine who plays who, so your chances of moving into the winners bracket increase by chance. In match play, lower rated players have a better chance of beating 1000 rated players or better players.

Each payer that signs up for the qualifier will get a players pack.

The South Eastern Qualifier will be held the Friday before the Augusta Disc Golf Classic.

See the Player's Cup Website to register and gather more information.

I was wondering the about the full process. I was worried that I may get seeded against a top rated player since i have a rating in the 940's. Have you not sold out the 20 or so spots yet? Now its time to get into the Augusta Classic as well. Three days in discneyland!

I also have a format question. On the Tourny site it says the 24 will become three, 8-man brackets with the winner advancing to the finals...i think. It also says that it's double elimination. So my questions are,

Do the three, 8-man brackets stay separated entire qualifier? (basically being 3 separate tournaments with one spot each)

What if you win until the finals of your bracket, then lose......are you out or do you play again?

If it is basically 3 separate tournys with luck depending who's in who's brackets, then you can bet the 3 best players won't all be going, unless they are all in separate brackets. On the other hand, if the 8 lowest rated players all fall in the same bracket, one of them will have to qualify. I guess this could be bad OR good, depending on who you are.

I'm NOT the TD - Rand is - but from talking with Steve Dodge and Mike Barnett while at the candlepin bowling after the Vbram Open what is below should be accurate...ANYTHING RAND SAYS OVERRIDES my post!

Since it set up like March Madness - which it is supposed to follow - it would probably be the top 3 rated signed up played would be #1 seed in each bracket, 4,5,6 rated would be #2 seed in each bracket, and so on until 22,23, 24 rated which would be #8 seed in each bracket.

3 brackets are separate through finals.

According to FAQ the 3 players who lose final match then throw a CTP to determine who will be 1st up in case one of the three winners or TD from that region can't make it.

That reminds me, What do Redan action and Maple Hill have in common? If you are playing off for anything, it's gonna be a ctp throw off. At Redan you always play ctp on hole 3(even if you only played the back nine) and at Maple Hill you throw off on hole one from the whites for everything ranging from the dubs qualifier to the pie eating contest.

But if it's anything like The Vibram Open it's gonna be the bomb.
Maybe this or the Vibram Open will become a major next year, as I hear we may be losing a huge one next year.

Jason,

The event will tee off at 10am. Players meeting and bracket selection will begin at 9:30. As the matches are one on one and over all scores don't matter, we can send players out on any of the courses. I am open to suggestion from a non playing party of course.

Qualifier is this Friday. Plan on being there for your chance to make it to the BIG show in Florida. It looks like three out of the four will get in by default, stand up and challenge some of these guys. Please help me get word out to surrounding clubs, players, courses, etc.

Just spoke to Rand and he asked me to post that it is starting at NOON FRIDAY at the IDGC.

He also asks for you to bring along some extra cash to bid on the silent auction items that are being used to raise more money for the finals.

Still only 5 people registered out of the 24 available spots - so make sure to come to Augusta and give it a shot if you want your chance at $5000!

3 Keith
4 Rand

This is how we finished up. On our way to Flordia in Nov for the Player's Cup.

What a crock of S***. Why did we play in a regional if the seeds didnt matter anyway? However they did the seeds for the finals is AWFUL. 980 rated players are seeded as high as 8th. I won our region and am rated over 1000 but i get a 15 seed? (out of 16!) They can keep the 50 bucks, but I'll keep my other 50 since they changed the rules after the fact.

Quit whining and go kick some ass - it sucks that they changes things up on you, but go win your first match and you could go a long way. Orum is good, but kind of up and down. This could be your coming out party - not an obstacle, but an opportunity. You got nothing to loose and everything to gain - seriously.

Whip Orum's ass and I'll put my fat head poster of you back on the wall...

I guess Dollar's whining and crying didn't stop him from playing and beating Orum first round  I would have congratulated him if he had a better attitude :D

Tournament was pretty sweet. It had a lot of first years bumps that should be worked out by next year. The course was a lot of fun with a lot of par 5s.

Vach and Rand played each other in the match to cash, with Vach sneaking out a 1 up victory.
Brad won the last hole to win his last match to get into the cash.
Phil lost his last match but still cashed bc he only lost 2.
I barely squeezed out a 1 up victory in the last match to cash.

I'm not sure, but I think that means me, vach, phil, and brad all tied, winning $500 a piece.

Technically the only thing in this statement that wasn't true was "They can keep the 50 bucks."
