Atlanta Disc Golf Womens Forum?

Postby DGLane » Sat Mar 13, 2010 7:17 pm

Is there a section, and if theres not, could there be a section for women disc players? I have been somewhat hard pressed to find any chicks to play with so I was hoping that if we had a forum it would be easier to meet up and get more women involved in the local scene.

You may have just started it. I think the moderators will welcome adding a ladies thread, but look out for stalkers

Any ladies want to play East Roswell around 2:30-3pm this Wednesday? You boys have any girlfriends or wives who play? I am flexible about where to play too if Roswell doesn't work.

Welcome to the Atlanta disc golf scene DGLane. The guys greatly outnumber the women, but our numbers are growing every year. Cheryl Eldridge would be a good contact on the north side of town. A Women's Clinic is being held at Lenora Park in Snellville on May 15; for $18 you'll get a sweet players pack, instruction from wonderful local pro Rachel Conley, a 9 hole tourney, and a great chance to meet lots of local women interested in our sport. Ladies are always welcome at Doubles, some parks have Ladies Tees and the ones that don't will usually give you a handicap of 3 to help even things out.

My husband Ed and I will be Alexander Park this Tuesday around 5 pm, and you are welcome to come play a round with us. Hope to see you there!

Hey Vicki, thanks for the heads up. I just moved to Atlanta from Texas so I have only been able to play in a few of the local minis (Alex and Central), which were great.

I did sign up for the women's clinic in May. It was just too good to pass up. I would love to meet your husband for a round, or bring my husband and play some doubles, but unfortunately I can't on Tuesday's. Thanks for the invite though!

She won. She was also the only one. Too common around here but we are gonna fix that right?

What made you decide to drive all the way down there for your first tourney?

One, because it is a big tourney and there were already three other women signed up. Two, because Jordan and I have stuff going on like every other weekend so it fit nicely into the schedule. Let me know what tourneys you guys do in the future and we will make plans to be there too!

She said she was going to call you, I will remind her, about playing again.

Yah I texted her about playing last week and didn't hear back from her. Ill try again Wednesday prob if the weather is nice. I have been looking at those tournaments too. Are you talking about the IDC tourney the first weekend of April? I'm pretty sure we will def be at that one. The courses there are really great.

Hmmm, her phone is pretty lame. She said she was going to call tonight.

I want to get her in on that one April 3rd, the Magnolia is a women's only Oct 17-18th but it would probably be good to get a round or two in.

Others we plan this year:

GSSS#4 Meeks Park
ERP Doubles tourney
ERP Lost in the Woods
Gwinnett County Open
Magnolia Open
USWDGC

Hasn't happened yet. Just because you don't see results, don't assume it's because no one cares about ams. Check your calendar. The current month is March.

She is playing in Toccoa this weekend. My shoulder is hurt so I have been caddy daddy for a bit now.

You could've played in the ATL Open with the scores you were putting up...and we were even sponsoring women to play.

I wanted to play in the ATL Open but Jordan and I were in Little Rock running the Ouachita 50k. In hindsight, playing disc would have been a much wiser choice than punishing my body on the trail. Hope your shoulder gets better soon! I am sure Christy is lovin you being her caddy. I didn't sign up for Toccoa because I didn't see any other chicks signed up there, and a bunch up in Chattanooga...

If there are any new chicks around ATL looking for other women to play with me and some of my girlfriends are going to get together and play later this week if you want to join us. It will be really casual.

Not sure yet. Prob East Roswell, but I'm open to wherever. The girls I'm taking have never played a full round before, so I am not sure ERP is the most beginner friendly, but its too fun to resist.

The trees can be a little frustrating, but we took a 60-year-old relative who'd never played before to ERP this weekend, and if anything he was even more enthusiastic about disc golf after we played 18 than before. In some ways, I even think it can be beneficial for beginners to think more about accuracy and such than to worry about trying to bomb a disc down an open hole. Throwing 100' down a fairway at ERP also doesn't seem as short somehow as throwing the same 100' out in an open field like Lenora.

When we moved down here our first round was at Lenora and we didn't play again for a couple years. Christy decided we needed to go to ERP one day and the rest is history...so while it may be hard and frustrating it certainly is alluring.

Let us know what day and I will leave the car for Christy so she can meet up with you!

Keep on doin' what you're doing though and bringing more women in...maybe we can set one up for the weekend or if you can noon-1ish I think she would be safe.

I invited all the women there, and told them to spread the word to any other chicks who might be interested. I directed them to the ADG website for more details. Didn't see Cilecia there like I had hoped with DD. Were you able to get an email for her off that website? Or you could just contact Dynamic Discs directly I'm sure about sponsorship info.
