Yes ... if you signed up or renewed after 10/1/2009 (or played in the last ADGO event) you are set for this one. I'll get a list of membership status up soon.

What discs will be used for MTA and putting contest ( putting contest same as accuracy?)
In the past MTA & Accuracy events I have been in we used "zephyr's", just wondering if this will stay the same. If remember correctly the accuracy event consisted of suspended hula-hoops at differing distances (farthest away = more points), although this was almost 10 years ago so I may not remember all the details. I guess there is some sort of rule keeping it the same for everyone?

I'm glad Double Disc Court was left out!!!

No accuracy. Just putting, Distance and MTA.

MTA - you can use any disc you like. I've seen the zephyr's and ultimate discs used.

This discussion in this topic regarding the ADGO deserves a thread of its own and we need opinions from ADGO members as well as 'soon to be' members, so I've moved it to a public form so everyone can participate. Keep it civil. Keep it productive.

The super heros work better than zephyrs for MTA.

as for DDC, If a bunch of us are camping it's on! DDC is fun after a couple drinks bc the smack talkin' and unselfish dives come out.

Everyone that has mini baskets should bring them, and maybe we can set up a mini course around the hanger area.

I'm sure most people on this forum have already heard about the Sunday 2/28 action down at Flyboy, but for anyone who hasn't...

Tentative start time at 12pm on 2/28/10. Sign ins will start around 11:30, we'll assign people to groups at 12, and tee off once everyone gets to their hole (probably 12:15-12:30 actual start time).

The action is as follows

Only 2 divisions for this monthly (Pro and Advanced, sorry no age protection). Should the number of people necessitate it, other divisions may be added in future. Rec and Intermediate players are welcome but be warned: this course is not even close to beginner friendly. While it is one of the most beautiful and awesome courses on the planet, it does require a good degree of skill to play and not lose all the discs in your bag. If you don't play much or don't have many extra discs to lose, then proceed with caution.

Now, for those who weren't scared off

Pros: $20 basic action. This includes $10 towards payout, $5 towards 5 CTPs, discounted course fee $4, $1 ace fund. That's the basic package that all pros MUST get. For those brave souls who like a little more action in your lives, an OPTIONAL $20 more goes directly to bigger payout. Payout top third on basic action and then top third of whoever gets in on the bonus action. So to reiterate, $20 gets you in with the option to throw $20 more for a grand total of $40 potential Pro action.

Advanced: Same thing as above except your basic action is $15 ($5 instead of $10 goes to your payout, CTPs, course fee, and ace fund the same). You also have the option for more action. $15 extra for a total of $30 potential Advanced action.

Any Intermediates or Recs that show up must still pay $5 course fee to play, no exceptions. If you're not willing to part with $5 to play one of the best courses out there, then have fun at home

CTPs will be shared between divisions but they will be on holes where everyone has an equal chance. Hope to see a good turnout

Randy,
I heard "Bear" magazine was gonna be a sponsor and feature P-nut as a centerfold for disc golf, but DD offended them
with his "faggot" post on the rec vs. a-tier thread. I know you were looking forward to that!

Dear Atlanta Area Disc Golfers,

My Folks and I are looking forward to hosting the ADGO Spring member event at Flyboy Aviation April 9th - 11th. The weather forecast looks good, so keep your fingers crossed, we don't want a repeat of last time! My aim is for you to experience the most unique and enjoyable weekend of disc golf ever. For those who've never played Flyboy, the course is 27 holes at Par 100. That’s 7 par 4s, 4 par 5s and a par 7 on the longest disc golf hole in the world of approximately 1600 feet! The remaining par 3s vary from very tough to easily deucable, with several Ace opportunities sprinkled throughout. Total length of the course is roughly 14,000 feet for the long tees, and much less for the Novice tees. There are 3 lakes, many elevation changes, and a Runway, amongst several other unique features. The current layout is challenging, rewarding, and frustrating…….and…..you may lose a disc or two, but I think you'll find it well worth the effort.

Here's some info you might find helpful:

DIRECTIONS: The directions posted on the course info page are good. Remember, Hwy 5 South is your best bet off I-20 if coming from Atlanta. If you do take Post road, it still has a bridge out from the "Big Flood", and you'll have to follow the "Detour" signs to navigate around the bridge.

WHAT TO BRING: Saturday's going to be a long day! With a foursome on every Tee, it may take over 5 hours to play the 27 holes, especially with so many players new to the course. Drinks, water, and snacks will be available for sale at my place and at concession stands set up around the course, so bring some cash. A stool will be nice to have. Bring extra plastic. The “Disc Gods” demand a lot of sacrifices out here. If you have water retrieval devices, bring them. I have loaner floater discs available, and there will be discs for sale here by me and other venders. If you think you may camp, bring your own camping gear.

PARKING: I highly recommend car-pooling if you can. Wade Selph will be the "Parking Czar" (hopefully!) When you show up, look for Wade, and follow his directions to your parking spot. Try to snuggle up best you can to the car next to you. You’re parking in my and some very accomodating neighbors' yards, so honor the cones and ropes marking the parking area, and try not to spin the tires if its wet and roll up your car windows....keeps the dogs out....seriously!

DOGS: A few folks have asked if their dogs can come, and thanks for asking! After several dog fights out here in the past, I have to ask you NOT to bring your dog. Max and Morgan (my two dogs) create enough drama to handle with an event this size. Morgan can be a sneaky little jerk and will steal you blind of your ham sandwich and water bottle, so beware! I promise to keep a better handle on her this year, but you've been warned.

CAMPING: Campers are welcome! An outdoor sink and porta john will be available, but no showers. Camp only in the designated camping area, and no camp fires please! Be prepared to rough it outside if it rains, as there'll be limited space to accomodate you in the hangar. I will have firepits available to use but only on the hangar pads.

SETTLING IN: After you arrive, you’re going to want to grip and grin, look around my place some, and practice a little. SO GET HERE EARLY! Please make yourself at home and explore around at will. A couple of requests: My folks, Wayne and Lillian live out here and run the place, so please find time to introduce yourself and talk to them. The septic tank is woefully small, so please use the porta potty outside. If you do use the facilities inside the house, don’t flush unless you have to. Please, shoes off inside the house…especially upstairs! Lillian will love you for that. Goes without saying, but please leave the place neat and clean like you found it.

FOOD: My grill will be available all weekend for anyone to use. The ADGO is catering the Saturday banquet dinner after the round, but it probably won’t happen until Saturday evening about 6ish, so plan accordingly. Some of the enterprising neighboorhood kids will be selling lemonade, snacks, etc. at my place, and around the course on Saturday. Please buy from them! Their parents are allowing you to play golf on their private property.....happy kids.....happy parents.....happy golfers! There is a country store just a couple of miles from the course if you need anything. A delightful little restaurant called the Cotton Gin is next to the store for a hot breakfast, lunch and dinner.

NEIGHBORS: I've invited my neighbors to drop in on us at any time during the event and get to know some of you guys and learn about our sport, so expect them and their kids to be there amongst you. Please engage with the neighbors and let them know how much you appreciate being allowed to use their property. A little PR with these folks goes a long way, believe me!

MERCHANDISE: Flyboy will be selling discounted tee shirts, towels, hats, and hopefully custom discs to help support the course. Help us out and buy one if you can. There will also be other venders selling disc golf stuff as well.

SIGN IN: With over 100 players, this will take some time so come early. Everyone must sign the liability waiver to play. There will be plenty of action if you're so inclined. The $5.00 course fee will be collected at sign-in (along with ADGO fees and action money.) This $5 gets you 3 days of golf, use of the property, and 3 ace attempt shots at the hangar basket worth $50. This money goes directly towards the developer's property taxes, not to Flyboy. If you'd like to contribute more to Flyboy Aviation, you can slip it in the lock box by the covered parking area. We lose money on these events, so your help through the lock box donations, food, and merchandise purchases are very much appreciated!

MASS BRIEFING: Be on time for the mass briefing at 10:15 am sharp. This is private property, and an active airport out here, so there’s some extra stuff to cover in the brief. I'll try to be brief (ok, pun intended). RUNWAY SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT! Pay attention to the briefing. As an added measure, one player on every card will be designated RM (Runway Monitor) for that foursome, responsible for that group's actions on the runway. Do not be late for the briefing....if you miss the runway safety briefing, you don't play the course. Look for more runway safety info posted here as we near the event date. You guys are probably sick of hearing about this, but we absolutely must show the pilots out here that we are serious about giving them the right-of-way and expeditiously clearing the runway when they fly. WE CAN NOT SCREW THIS UP GUYS!

HOW ABOUT SOME DUBS FRIDAY? Sounds like there will be a good crowd showing throughout the day Friday for bring your own partner Dubs with the last Tee time around 3pm. (Again, sign the liability release, and get a runway briefing from me or my representatives before you step onto the course). Doubles will be followed by field events, night golf, and camping. I've prepared a really fun 9 hole night course around my hangar and property. The full course is off limits after dark to keep golfers out of the neighbors yards.....for obvious reasons.

COURSE SPECIFICS: I'll post an updated course guide here soon. There've been a few tweaks made to the course in the last month or so, but nothing major.

Post any additional questions here and I’ll be glad to answer them. We look forward to seeing all of you at Fly Boy Aviation!

PLEASE bring your camera's and take shots and video. I will be working with Brim and others to gather footage to produce event documentary.

Remember, BYOB. Bring your own snacks.
The awards banquet will be following the singles round on Saturday.

Banquet Menu:

Tea
Lemonade
Potato Salad
Corn on the cob
Grilled Mushrooms (for the non meat eaters)
Roasted Pig
Roasted Chicken

We will be running a team competition over the Field Events, Singles and Dubs events.

1 Club will earn top Pennant and an Award of Significant Value

Each club will be ranked by competition by division based on average of individual scores.
Points will be awarded accordingly (e.g, If 7 teams, then club with best average score gets 7 points for event)
Club points will be tallied and Club with most points is Spring Champion

Events:
*Maximum Time Aloft - I have heard variations of this. Throw the disc and catch it with one hand. Time in air is clocked. Feel free to try and run it down.
*Putting
*Distance
*Dubs on Friday (each players score count towards their club average)
*Singles

OH. You can only represent one club / course in this competition, so some of you are going to have to decide where home is ...

I would like to get in on the doubles action friday, but looks like I am rolling down solo. So if anyone else is thinking about playing but don't have a partner, I could use one.

Also... anyone camping that is heading down from the northside, if you wouldn't mind an extra person I could kick gas money or something towards car pooling, or I could drive. Just hate making long drives solo!

Thanks.

If anybody STILL doesn't have a partner for the Doubles on Friday (I assume Dollar has either found one or would not be terribly excited about carrying me around the course), I still don't have one myself. So PM me if you also feel like you're the only person who doesn't yet have a partner.

That is just tomorrow. Sat we will be running side action by division for sure. There may be some that will opt for dubs side action (like team Plotshaw) so I'll leave a list for that too.

Now, who's your Partner?

Getting psyched. 2 rounds at Herman C. Michael tomorrow (doing the polar opposite thing), dropping our daughter off at 4 and we are child free until Sunday.

Too bad we gotta go to bed early Friday to get up for the 77mi drive and then will probably so asswhoopitized saturday night that we won't even be able to enjoy it!!

I believe the list is of registered players and is not a roster of all ADGO members.

Just got home a bit ago.

ADGO- Great event, 1st class all the way, almost felt like stealing with the amount of value we got from this event!!

Kelly & Family- Wow, you guys are so generous and kind, there needs to be more people like you on this planet. Your neighbors are really great people too and those concession stands were spaced perfectly and we sampled wares from every single one of them.

Flyboy, the course- Unbelievable! I didn't get to play due to my arm but wow, just walking with Christys bag was an amazing experience...what a great course! Great layout, great flow and probably one of the longest walks I have ever taken voluntarily!

Everyone involved should be proud.

I gave 5 stars on DGCR, this course is THE coolest.

HUGE THANKS to Kelly and his family for their hospitailty, the neighbors and their kids for their concession stands ( I also laid out 10 bucks total at the 3 stands for well timed Gatorade buys :) ) and MOOSE and Bradshaw for the OUTSTANDING FOOD!!!

Total players were 73

Results of Ace Eagle Pool winners plus Distance, Putting and MTA (maximum time aloft) in this post.

Ace Eagle winners:
David Centofanti had 2 (1 share of prize)
Newcomer to GA from Illinois Scott Hulsebus
Tyler Davis each getting $21 in Cash

About 35-40 people competed in distance
First in distance went to Phil Arthur with a 535 foot shot and
John Reilly was 2nd with a 529 foot shot

Putting was 4 stations 3 shots each from 20, 30 40 & 50 feet (Max point total of 12) about 50 competed in putting
First was Matt Rudinski with 9 points and
2nd was Keith Johnson with 8 points

About 12 people competed in MTA
First was Keith Johnson with 9.78 seconds aloft and
2nd was David Centofanti with 7.71 seconds aloft

Score results in MY next post - Ritger has the scorecards to work his spreadsheet scoring wizardry when he has the chance for everyones scores - the scores I'll post are overall and side action winners.

My first time playing this course was awesome! Thank you Kelly and the ADGO BOD! Great job! Kelly continually thanked
US for coming out and playing and I just wanted to slap him. I think it's a great character trait to be humble, but please
Kelly, you don't need to thank us. WE need to bow and be humbled by what you have offered us. Thank you so much!

Uploaded a selection of about 140 pix from today to Flickr. They're at http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottwalke ... 704363137/ .

The 140 or so is a little more than 10% of what I shot, so if something interests you and you want to see what else is in the full batch that's similar, let me know. Also, these have been resized down somewhat to upload a bit more quickly. If you want a higher-resolution version of something you see, just ask.

What a perfect day! I had a blast playing a the perfect course on a perfect day, and finishing with great food and beverages. It was my first time at Flyboy and I was fortunate to be in a foursome with Brad Orman, who was happy to explain each shot, point out hazards, and tell us about the history of the course. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who made this happen...especially our hosts. I hope to play Flyboy again very soon...is there weekly or monthly action?

I want to say a big "THANK YOU" to Kelly Legette and his parents, for a wonderful time. This was my first ADGO tournament as a member. I enjoyed every minute of it. The course is beautiful and immaculate. Tent city at night was lots of fun as well. It will all be kept a secret amongst us. :shh: We had camp fires, glow golf, lots of beer and even the crackin' came to visit. Thank you to my everyone on my card as well; Jon, Christy (and Bill) and Dave, hope to play with you in the future.

Also thank you to ADGO for another great event. :)

There you go sir. I am the newcomer down here. So far everyone has been very helpful and nice to me. Thank you for that. It's great to be around a bunch of quality disc golfers on and off the course.

That should answer your

You are too nice Scott, I would have told him it was already posted upthread with all the other results, and made him find it himself with 30 seconds of effort.

That would be great, give us a ring sometime when you think you might be down this way. We only live a few minutes from the course.

Leftover ADGO Spring Event Plastic

Postby mrpbody33 » Wed Apr 28, 2010 11:37 am

Got a few discs left from the ADGO Spring Event still for sale.

All discs are now $10!

Below is what I have left:
Red Aviar Driver (172g-175g) - 16
Yellow Aviar Driver (150g) - 2
Red R-Wood Roc (166g-169g) - 5
Beige R-Wood Roc (170g-173g) - 4
Red Pro Boss (168g-175g) - 5
Yellow Pro Boss (175g) - 2
Orange Pro Boss (175g) - 1

I have thrown the R-Wood Roc and let me tell you these are nice and overstable even being a little lighter weight. Plus the grip is fantastic in wet weather. I must have used it on a dozen holes at Stephen County this past weekend.
