Congratulations to Vern Williams for earning a door prize as the first entry into Meeks Madness! Vern mailed in the registration form that has been available on the PDGA site for the last couple of weeks. Luckily for Vern, Hugh is a nice guy and didn't go for the door prize. Hopefully, online registration will be available this week...

Glad to have you both! Rec will play short tees both rounds. Women's and junior divisions are variable and develop as the field comes along. The flyer doesn't say so, but we have offered Novice in the past as well.

She will play men's rec if she has to but hopefully you can get a couple of women out there.

The only time we played we played longs so it will be a treat to throw from the shorts.

Yes, entries are starting to roll on in. I should have the PDGA list up by tomorrow, hopefully. Right now, we are at 10 pre-registered:

Vern Williams
Hugh Torbit
Keith Johnson
Bill and Christy Belanger
Brett Porter
Craig and Justin Dickerson
Eric Boden
Matthew Mashburn

Once the PDGA list is up, I'll try to update daily on the top post. Thanks for signing up!

Players list available on top post with host hotel info. I'll have flyers at the GSSS1 this weekend at White Oak. I'll be the one sitting on my new caddy, John Plotky's shoulders, so you all should be able to spot me high above the crowd.

Thanks to YOUNG HARRIS COLLEGE for another big money sponsorship. YHC has donated to Meeks Madness for 3 years straight. It costs $100 to get your name/business on the t-shirt if anybody is interested. Keep those registrations coming!

For those of you that are playing in the GSSS event at the crucible the week following this tournament, Meeks would be a great warm up course due to the length and elevation changes. Plus we would love to have more disc golfers visit us and play our course.

Three more entries today. Although entries are coming in slowly, don't delay if you would like to play Meeks. With other area tournaments sold out for March and as the days get longer and hopefully warmer, I anticipate that this tourney will have a good turnout.

Also a big thanks to Bob Harkins for a $50 Sponsorship!

Tourney discs arrive on Tuesday. I'll post pictures and prices by mid-week...

I'll have:
R-Wood Aviars
Star Makos
Champion Roadrunners
XG Champion Bosses (extra gummy)

Tourny is only a third full - get your registrations in. Mashburn is one of the good guys and Meeks is a really fun track if you have not played it before. So get signed up and show your support... Plus, the long-sleeved tee is key...

I could see all pavement and the creek on hole #9 playing as O.B.

Are there any other areas on the course that will play O.B.? I.E. the walking paths on holes 8-11?

The paved road to the right of #3 is OB. Last year, we played the water on 9 as casual, but it will likely be OB this year. Also, if you cross the fence on the left on 9 it's ob. None of the walking paths are OB.

I'll have a reference card at the tournament with OB's, mandos, and other needed information. We could definitely tighten Meeks up with some additional OB, but for now, Meeks Madness is an early Spring C-Tier and my goal is friendly competition, good times, and a tourney worth going back to.

Deadline for a player's pack is this Friday, March 5. Only 5 Days left to pre-register and receive the coolest long sleeve t-shirt known to the disc golf world.

My son Justin (12 years old)is wondering if any other juniors are thinking about playing. Right now he is the only one signed up in the Junior division. Winning first place by default is not that rewarding (except for the prize  ) Anyway, if no other juniors sign up do ya'll think he should move on up to novice or just stay put?

Win by default or lose by default?

Actually I think J-man would do alright in Novice.

As soon as I receive the e-mail confirmation from the PDGA, I'll upload the remaining names. I know that Shoe, Brett R., some guy from TN, and another guy from somewhere else are in, but I haven't received their information.

Thanks for the support!

Cannot wait to visit GA and more importantly play this tournament. Playing this course in the blind so I will try to get out Thurs. and/or Fri to check it out. Q, is wind generally a factor on the course? Is terrain rough or is it more manicured like it appears on dgcoursereview? Is course fairly easy to navigate? Any info appreciated. Sounds like good times to be had.
Thanks, Tony aka orc-in man

I played the course last Friday for the first time. They were predictiing a windy day and boy was it ever. The wind was definetly a factor for the two rounds I played and I propose that had the wind been more benign I would have shot 5-7 shots better than I did. The culminating point was on hole 14 where as my disc made the necessary gap to go towards the basket- but the wind caused my disc to sail approx. two holes down over the side of the mountain. I had to come very near to black-aceing hole#12. :)

The course is well maintained. Grass was short and in general the walk was easy. IMO the front nine is much more varied than the back nine. I like the course and wouldn't be upset if it was my homecourse, and the course designer did a pretty good job setting it up with the amount of land that was available.

I'm experiencing some technical difficulties with the ol' laptop, but rest assured, if you were able to submit your online entry last night with confirmation, you are in Meeks. We set a "counter", so we wouldn't oversell. I reserved a couple of entries for snail mail, and those arrived today in perfect harmony. Redan Randy was officially the last entry into Meeks. The tournament is full! Thanks for making my life easier as a TD. This means 72 folks will get a t-shirt!

Sponsor information will be updated soon... Plenty of tournament discs still available... And, as Huddie Ledbetter used to sing, "Don't mind the weather cause the weather don't mind".

We are going to drive up tomorrow in the morning to get a round in before the tourney. Looks like a pretty day...is it marshy there still? I will probably grab the boots anyways.

Yeah, it's still pretty wet. Parks and Rec are planning to remove brush, freshen tees, and hopefully, add a few benches next week. That's what the flags are for. Keep your fingers crossed...

Big thanks go out to the Union County Recreation Dept! They have removed brush from the course, de-winterized the restrooms, and added a new teepad to
#3 Long. The new #3 long is up the hill to the left of #2 basket. The new position makes for a more scenic, downhill hole and addresses safety concerns related to the pavilion and the old pad. #3 long will play easier than before. Some will like that, some won't.

The Rec Department plans to install some additional benches after Meeks Madness in time for the GSSS event later in the year. We are lucky to have solid park support! Don't forget your stools for Meeks Madness though...

For the most part it is. It is hilly and there are a couple of spots where you are going across the grade, but for the most part it is fine.

Well, my chef for this event has a touch of p-neumonia, so we will have to hold off on BBQ and stew until next time. At least Wookie and Cletus Beavers are happy since both work at bbq joints.

Players list updated as a couple of folks have dropped out.

On a side note: For any players that frequent the board and want to change divisions, please let me know sooner rather than later. I'm working on finances for each division and added cash. The more I can plan ahead of time, the better.

Just ask Woody. Last year, I was so thrown off by his day of sign-in and jug of quarters that I placed him on the short tees first round with some Barneys like Cletus Beavers

The owners were very nice and the room was a great bargain. We had Friday dinner at a very good place to eat in the same plaza as the hotel but I can't rememeber the name. It had a full menu from comfort food to sandwiches. We had lunch at a BBQ place in between rounds at a place called Poppies (which would have been within walking distance to the host hotel) and the staff got us in and out of there in about a half hour - the portions were huge and defintely would eat there again. Thought about DNF'ing the 2nd round just so I could go eat my leftovers  .

Congrats to the winners and thanks again to anyone that helped run the event or helped by sponsoring. Your efforts are appreciated.

Definitely huge props to Matt's wife and the other women who spent their day in a (rather nice mind you) park shelter freezing their butts off all so we could trudge around in the mud for 6 hours!

Very cool.

It was a very well run tournament.

Did the ints. shoot the same pads as advanced and pro? I mean did Tom "uber bagger" Greer shoot the second best score of the day?

This was my first time to see this young man drive. During warmup he drove the basket on # 3 from the short tee pad. I think the tee sign indicated the distance somewhere in the 430 foot range. My measley 300ft attempt afterwards looked pretty lame.

Just want to point out that Tom Greer is a graduate of the Roswell School of Disc Golf (aka. Roswell disc golf summer camp).
Personally trained by the world famous Moose. You too can play like Tom Greer! ...but only if you signup for the summer camp.

- 2010 schedule soon to be announced.

Dates for 2010 summer disc golf camp at ERP will be July 12-14, Monday through Wednesday, 9 am to noon each day. Registration will be through the RRPD online system -- won't be available until registration opens for all of the summer programs, which should be in a month or so.

We will also host some disc golf summer camps at Meeks this year during the months of June and July. I may be in touch for some ideas and recommendations. Do you cover how to protect a lead after round 1

Yes, we cover how not to blow a first round lead. This is covered on day 2 of the curiculum on how to legally "work" the competition. This part will be taught by the master himself - BP.

Yes, there will be a younger arm as well as a walker in the players pack for the seniors version of this class. Stay tuned!

No, seriously, this is a great kids program that we offer. It introduces kids to disc golf in a fun way while educating them on how to improve their disc golf skills. We teach course respect, player respect, etiquette, rules of competive play, and much, much more. Sign up your kids and help us make this year, the best class ever!

If you would like to help out with the camp, please PM me. We need your help.
