Would anyone be interested in a TEAM EVENT?

Postby K-Mack » Thu Nov 05, 2009 2:29 pm

I was considering running a couple events next year.

Gonna do another Southern Nationals Qualifier early in the year and also considering putting together a Team Tourney

This is how the Team tourney would work

4 players per teams
The 4 players would consist of ANY 4 players that their total ratings does not exceed 3700
(example)
Team A
Dollar 999
Rachel 872
Gomez 929
Steve Adams 900 =3700

Team B
Josh Henly 956
Plotky 947
michael Burton 936
brian lang 857 =3696

Then it would be total score of all players on team
Non sanctioned so it would be pay cash out to all.
If a player does not have a rating the would have a default rating of 925

Just throwing it out there to see if there would be any interest in it.

Bring your own team, or are teams decided the day of the event? Sounds fun to me.

Create your own team, Redan would be a perfect venue for an event like this.

I'd be down. How does it work? Everybody plays a round of singles and the best total team score wins?

I've thought about running a match play tournament, but thought it would be too much of an undertaking for my first crack at running some action. From what I hear, the match play action up at Earlewood is awesome.

Sorry, didn't mean to get off topic.

Will the SN action be at the same venue as last years?

Team action: Then it would be total score of all players on team

So far, out of running the few match plays I have done, the hardest part is keeping up with the players as they all get done at different times and you don't want to send folks out for another round while the previous round is still going. It can get a little hectic but if you know how many players are going to be there you can set your brackets, which by the way is whole frustrating issue of it's own. You can get software that does it but it cost money.

I talked with the Sauls boys about there action up at Earlewood. They gave me a detailed break down of how they do things. There will be difficulties, but it can be done. The key is to pick a course that is on the shorter side and flows well on the front and back. Alexander, Redan, and ERP are the one's that came to mind.

It would be two rounds, every team would assign their players as an A, B, C, or D golfer.

All the A's would play together B's w/B's etc.

Their would be a small side action singles tournament within the team tourney where all the A's are against each other B's etc.

Total score for all players on team would be totaled for total score for team.

Not sure about the Southern Nats Qualifer location yet but I'm trying to get a course in there so possibly

I like this idea...Finally a tournament where a player like me (874 rating) can actually score some cash in a tournamnet and feel like I'm contribiting (unlike when I play in a bring your own doubles partner). I voluenteer to be a teams anchor (D-Train!!).

Redan would be a good site for this, however it costs $200 to rent for the day...but if you don't mind barnies on the course at the same time...and if we all showed up spontaneously...and someone (like me) for some reason put a sign up saying the course was closed for private tournament...b/c technically it is a private tournament...and...and...

Sounds like a good idea...

I don't see it as being the 4th guy or the D train, I see myself as a low points alternative, so the team can get a high rated player. Sort of a ratings point cap saver!

With Chop on your team you could still have three 1000 rated players.

It should be done in a format in which each set team must come up with a catchy name and extreme persona like in the movie Dodgeballs. Costumes... i mean tournament attire.... must be in theme with the team persona. I call Jamaican Team !!!

Hey Kevin ? Not sure if I missed it above, How will you Rate players that have no pdga players rating?
or is this a pdga members only action?
Reason I ask, What if Myself and my teammates wanted to play, 3 of us have no pdga players ratings and 1 does have a pdga rating.

It says "If a player does not have a rating the would have a default rating of 925"

If you shoot on average above a 925, you could be very valuable to a team.
If you normally shoot below a 925 ranked round and do not have a PDGA player rating to reflect that, you are an anchor sinking the ship.

Yes!! That is what I would be, an anchor.
I think that number 925 is high for a true enthusiast player.
But I do understand, they are lots of great unrated players out there. I'm just not one of them.

Looks like a date has been set, but further details are not yet posted.
I'm sure Kevin is pretty busy with golf and at-home life. We should probably just decide on teams and be ready for the updated info.

I'm rated at 957 right now and I'm looking for other team members..... (sounds like a dating venture for some reason)
Maybe we should start a separate thread for teams and people looking for teammates??

Busy with Golf ---NO--- still in hibernation! Haven't touched a disc since 1 day in Dec. and before that was Oct. I don't do winter golf anymore!
Busy with at-home-life ---YES---I have taken over full time at the Coffee Shop as Courtney was supposed to have the baby last saturday, still waiting. I'm sure it will come during the Super Bowl.

But that is no excuse, I will try to lock down a location soon for the event.

As for the question of non rated players being a default of 925. Sure that is a little high but here is where it really doesn't matter. The payout! Here is how the payout will work. There will be a flighted payout. There will be an A & B Flight depending on total score. So even if your team can't hang with the top teams you can still win the B Flight. So basically if there are 20teams It's good to finish 1st overall and 11th (1st in B Flight) Plus each team will have an A, B, C, & D golfer and the top players in each class will get bonus cash.

Its going to be $200 per team $50/per player, but that has Ace Pot and Ca$h CTP's figured into them. Payouts are entirely cash, no merch payouts!

Sample Payout* (20 Teams) $4000 (*For example only, Payout not set)
Flight A
Team 1 $800
Team 2 $540
Team 3 $360
Team 4 $280

Flight B
Team 11 $420
Team 12 $360
Team 13 $320
Team 14 $220

4 CTPS @ $50 per CTP = $200
Ace Pot = $100

Top Players in each level Bonus (A-D Golfers determined by high to low rating within team)
A Golfers 1st $50 2nd $35 3rd $20
B Golfers 1st $50 2nd $35 3rd $20
C Golfers 1st $50 2nd $35 3rd $20
D Golfers 1st $50 2nd $35 3rd $20

If you did the simple math you would see that any 1000 rated pro will need a 833 player to keep the 3700 limit. I guess that leaves you four options in GA.

But really just find three others that want to play. You dont have to be 925 average to play. Those will just be the highest rated teams.

I have to apologize for the lack of info about this event, but I'm gonna have to wait until next year to do this, I underestimated the fact of having 2 kids was a little tougher than 1 kid

So instead of throwing together another throw together event I rather wait until I can put some time and effort into it.

I apologize for snagging a saturday on the schedule
