Bridge builders needed

Postby luke » Sat Dec 05, 2009 1:02 pm

The Monty is in need of people with the expertise to build about a 20 or so foot-long bridge, and maybe 1-2 smaller bridges.

Water on the course will be there indefinitely, or as long as we're not in a drought, it seems.

LET ME KNOW!

luke, I have built some small bridges on park land using old phone poles.

What type of construction material are you using?
Are the bridges just for crossing small creeks/drainage areas?

I am by far no expert, but am willing to help given advance notice.

The materials can vary. I've got tons of logs--sweetgum, most of it, I think. Outside of that, I've got scrap lumber at my house and a little money in the course account.
I'm using some of the sweetgum logs to make a little fence for new #5, but I don't know how to begin with a bridge. I'm interested in placing it where the water runs across the entrance to the woods. Perhaps it just needs a plank walkway, like between 14-15 at Redan. I'd like to know what you think, if you're familiar with the area I'm talking about.

I'd like to do some simple planks to get across some of the places where water runs in front of the baskets. Also, the new hole has the creek behind it, so we'll need a way to get across it safely.

Not to rain on your parade, but you might want to run any 'bridge' plans by the county. There could be liability issues involved and you know how 'people' are these days. Then of course, there's the whole ADA thing to consider as well; Just a reflection of the times we live in.

Something like Redan's 14-15 walkway shouldn't raise any concern. But once you elevate anything above the ground........

You could probably get a couple of utility (phone) poles from your local power company (EMC?) that would be long enough to cross the creek. They usually have poles they can't use any more that they would be willing to give you. (Maybe even deliver??). Just nail some of the scrap lumber across them (like upside down railroad tracks) and you gotta bridge.
