Jerks or Nature on Hole 11

Postby gvan » Mon Sep 28, 2009 7:21 am

One of the signature features at The Alex was the bent tree that you had to either go over or under on hole 11. It was cool to look at, and an interesting obstacle. It is no more.

It is possible that the water-saturated ground gave way under the weight of the tree, but it is slightly more likely that someone added weight to it and ripped it out of the ground.

At any rate, I've notified the park that it is damaged, but I don't believe they can save it. It's too bad. The hole will be less unique now.

Yeah, I saw that last night and had the same feelings. It is a real shame that this tree is gone. 11 was my favorite hole at the Alex because of it.

It does stink. I suggested a statue in its place...maybe a dolphin. :?

That sucks, I'd be inclined to believe some nature haters did it...it still looked ok when I played on Sat.

Maybe we should just get GWCP&R to plant a magnolia there just to piss 'em off!

That does indeed suck. Guess it's possible that it could have succumbed to the wet ground, but it doesn't seem likely. Bummer.

As long as the roots aren't damaged it should be able to be propped back up with a couple of braces. I have the pressure treated wood if we get permission from the parks to try it.
Is this post really necessary?

We need to set up a monument to this tree. The hole has lost it's distinct character!

I could probably get a piece of rebar bent that way...concrete it into the ground and it will be good as new. :D

The tree was up and fine when I played the hole at apprx 7:15PM Monday night. I hope it wasn't golfers. There were very few golfers or walkers left when I was finishing up. Didn't notice it down when I was coming up #18 fairway though.

I'm scratching my head then; I could have sworn my drive went just to the right of it. Guess I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

If sacrificing one tree would solve that problem for good that bastard would've been cut months ago.

Al,
I'm a 'tree' hugger...not a fighter. I saw J.R.R. Tolkien's 2nd documentary "Two Towers". No way I'm going to get a forest mad at me.

Jerks or nature got the the crooked arch tree behind 8 too.

Here is a hint...if you cannot handle trees keep on driving past Alex and play Lenora.

That was like the only reason to be scared of driving past the basket!!! Unless you wayyyyyy overshoot...

We need some replacement obstacles for the bent trees.

I can get some big rebar, we can even bend it in the shape of the x-trees. Concrete that crap in and it won't go anywhere.

It really pisses me off when someone thinks they need to modify the course.
