Casual mixed doubles?

Postby billnchristy » Thu Jul 23, 2009 3:52 pm

Any couples want to play some casual mixed doubles with my wife and I? I am working out the details to make things equal but wanted to see how many we could get playing (if any) before putting too much time into thinking about it.

Count my wife and I in. I expect that there are a couple of other couples that we might get as well

Added a day/time vote. Write in others if needed though wed/thurs are definitely out for us.

Also, rules choices:

All red tees? All blue tees? Ladies red, men blue?

Format choices:

Scramble (best lie chosen after each throw)

Modified alternate shot:

Both players tee off, best lie is chosen by team and the opposite player takes the next shot, alternating until holed out.

Others?

Play for cash?

Play for the same amount as the normal doubles? $10 a couple with same payout structure?
$5 CTP $5 Ace? or no ace and only $5 CTP (per couple) 2 per round.

Periodicity?

Weekly, Bi-weekly, Monthly?

My choices:

Mix tee
Modified alternate shot (will speed game)
$10 couple buy in, $5 CTP
Bi-weekly or monthly

Last Sunday at 2pm sound good?

I know Mon/Tuesday got equal votes but with summer coming close to an end it will be really hard to get out of work and get a round in before dark.

I will start a new thread with the detail-ios tomorrow.

Plan:

Last Sunday o' the month for the next 4 months (can pick up after Christmas if it goes well).

August 30
Sept 27
Oct 25
Nov 22 (adjusted for thanksgiving)

Play:

1 round, mixed doubles, 2 couples per card.

Men use blue tee
Women use red

Format is scramble with best lie being chosen after each throw. First to hole out is score.

1st always cashes, 2nd always at least breaks even (if >2 couples), 3rd will break even at 6+ couples (payout is something like 60%,30%,10% but adjusted to stay even by 5s.) 100% payout

Buy in: ($20 all in per couple)

$10 per couple for play
$5 Ace/champion fund*
$5 CTP fund

Ace / Champ fund:*

If no aces are hit during 4 round season then the money will be distributed to the players upon conclusion. Payout will be 50%, 20%, 15%, 10%, 5%. If no 3rd place then percentage is split between 1 and 2, if no 4th it goes to 1st, if no 5th it goes to 2nd. Must buy in 3 of 4 rounds to be eligible for championship money.

Any aces hit during regular play will pay the full pot to the couple who hits.

CTP: (if wanted)

1 CTP per monthly to be done after regular round ends. This allows for a larger pot than doing separate by card.
A tie will be determined by your partner's lie.

No ace money during CTP since it is not during regular play.

CTPS: 8, 10, 12, 15

Please let me know if this sounds bad, I have never run or attended one.

I like the separate tee pads, and format. I would suggest that at least 5 of the drives taken must be from the woman's throw. I agree with buy in at $20 per couple and payout stated. I would suggest normal CTP's thrown during the round.

This is going to be fun! Ed and I will be at The Alex at 10 am tomorrow (Sunday) to return some lost discs and play a round. If any of you would like to join us that would be great!

$20 a couple = casual mixed doubles

What would the buy-in be for competetive mixed doubles?

Ahhh, yes. I also interpreted casual as meaning friendly, non-cash sort of fun. My wife has been reluctant to play for cash. It's probably because she'd feel bad for taking everyone's money, but I've never really asked.

That being said, We will be there at 2pm to play, but won't be buying in for now. Hope that's OK.

To Echo Gerrit's comment. My wife and I also are not interested in playing for money. She is much too competitive for that and prefers to play for fun

I say that I have to agree with gerrit and mike $20.00 is a little steep if you are wanting new couples to play,me I dont really care about the money but there are a lot of couples that do.I believe it would be better if the price was cheaper then we would get more intrested in playing.heres an idea maybe take all the money and put it towards the gdgo you know like a fundraiser that a way the money would go to a good cause.food for thought
