Strong Arms

Postby Vicki » Thu Feb 19, 2009 10:15 am

The GDGO and Gwinnett County are building a Disc Golf Information Kiosk for Hole #1 at Lenora this Saturday at 9 am. We have the materials and plans and tools but are in need of some strong arms and backs to use the post hole diggers. Also, anyone specializing in carpentry/building would be most welcome.

Please post here if you can come out and help. Thanks so much for supporting the Gwinnett Disc Golf Organization!

Wow, 83 hits and only 3 replies...

Thank you so much Gerrit, Tee-Bird, and Splash - May you have aces every time you play Lenora!

Vicki, you have to remember that both Central and East Roswell had work days scheduled for tomorrow long before your post for Lenora - that's where a lot of the "local helpers" will be at.

I don't think there is a lack of helpers, just a lack of coordinating workdays to not be the same day.

I had not taken that into consideration Keith; thank you. We do have a tremendous amount of discers with generous spirits and I guess the numbers just threw me.

Many apologies for not making it this morning. With my right wrist in a brace I would not of been a heck a lot of help.

Sorry for the late reply, just saw the post. Did you finish? Is there still a need for help?

Mikey, Gerrit, Tee-Bird, and Chris A all showed up in the freezing cold on Saturday morning. They used the plans and supplies provided by Gwinnett County, and the tools provided by Mikey, to build the the kiosk. Lenora Park County workers will do final assembly and install it this week. I am having a plaque made showing names of basket contributors to be permanently installed in the kiosk. It will also have a map of Lenora and room for fliers. A box will be mounted on the outside for scorecards.

I hope your wrist is better Splash, and thank you St.Paulie but our part is finished now.

I stopped by the park yesterday to check out the Kiosk. The park has installed it sans roof and plexiglas. I saw Teebird on the course and we agreed that we'd like to try to finish it this upcoming weekend. Perhaps Friday or Saturday. I can stop by the park Friday afternoon and meet with the parks guys to get the materials out of the barn. I can also bring the needed tools again. I just need one other body to help install the roof. I have the lagbolts. Gerrit mentioned staining the wood to protect it. I'll bring the caulk and gun. I can also bring screws and nails to attach the frame and quarter round molding.

Either Friday afternoon (4pm or so) or Saturday morning are OK with me at this point. I did pick up some weatherproofing stain that should help with longevity. Let me know which day you plan to be there.
