I have been back and forth with the park and Lane. Here's the lowdown.
Lane is not running the event. I would have but I can't make the tentative weekend that is set. If someone who is qualified would step up, that would be great. The park ( Keith Whitaker and Jerry) want 15% of the gross that comes in from the tourney. This will be a contract between the TD and park. It doesn't sound bad until you consider player packs if any and the pro payout which usually brings in no money because of it all being paid back. I've run some numbers from past Elberton tourney's and whoever took this on could profit some if it fills up.
There will still be a parking fee to get in. If you are interested please call
706-213-2045 and talk to Keith Whitaker. I will try again to get a more favorable deal for us. Talk to you soon. - John

I just talked to Keith Whitaker at Lake Russell about the 9th. LRO.
I also made him aware of the other tourney that is said to be on that date.
Keith told me that he was aware of the other tourney, but was told it was a free to play event with no pro divisions. I let him know of the post on the Atlanta site about this event and the entry fees which cannot be collected unless approved by the park. He did say that if Chuck's letter was in first that he would get that date if it's free or he pays a fee to the park. He mentioned moving the LRO tourney back. Keith is supposed to let me know later this afternoon. He knows that this is the traditional date for this event and so do the Georgia golfers. Before I comment any further on this let me see what I hear back from the park. - John

Plans

Postby Laserman » Tue Aug 07, 2007 1:55 pm

Many of us have made plans to play the Lake Russell Open. If Mr. Disc takes over the course on Saturday September 8th, I will cancel my plans to go to the lake and I suspect many other people will do the same.

I just got word that Lake Russell is a go . It will be a 2 day "C" tier this year. I am still working out the details. The dates are the same September 8 and 9. I will try to have flyers this weekend at the FCO. Hopefully get it posted here next week. I will be getting the sanctioning agreement to the PDGA and the fees this week also. So it should be posted on their website. - John

I am looking at 2 days. 2 rounds of 18 on Saturday. 1 round of 27 on Sunday with a Sunday morning tee time of 10am. Pros $44- ADV. - $34 INT. $24. Because of the closeness of this date I will give a Star disc to the first 50 ams to enter. No customs. We'll do Saturday check - in and registration from 9- 10 with a player meeting around 10:30. There will be the usual $2 PDGA fee and a $2 park fee. Anyone wanting to donate CTP's,
bring them day of ,and we'll get them out for 2nd. or 3rd. round play.
Just a note, the park is very concerned about alcohol use in light of what happened last year. Please keep it off the course. I would hate for you to DQ yourself. See you all soon - John

This tourney is listed as a "B" tier currently on the PDGA site. It is a "C" tier. Just to clear up any confusion. I will have flyers at the FCO this weekend and at the GA. states later in August. I hope to get one posted here ASAP. See the first post on this thread for registration details. - John

Due to some personal reasons I will not be the TD of the LRO. I have talked with the park and they are good with that, so Jay Voss will be
the TD for Lake Russell. I have total confidence that Jay and his help will do a great job at this event. Have a great time in Elberton. See you all

Camping

Postby solstice_disc_sports » Thu Sep 06, 2007 11:04 am

They say there's no more spots left for camping! Where are we supposed to stay? Can this park not accomodate primitive campers? :?
solstice_disc_sports

Postby endlinker » Thu Sep 06, 2007 11:38 am

I guess the park only has so many designated campsites. The problem with primitive campsites is not everyone is as responsible as I am sure you are. You know how reds can get all crazy. Anyway, I did a quick internet search for you and found these. The first one is the closest. The second is about 30 minutes away I think. At least that is what mapquest says.

You cavemen never learn. The key is to not wait till the day before to find a spot. I think there's a spot for you along 18's fairway. Just make sure you don't catch the shule on fire.

Can someone give those of us who were less fortunate last weekend the scores?

Also, please fire the tech guys in charge of the speed of this board. Like Wes said lets go with another provider if they cant get this board up to speed. Lately it has not been worth logging onto this site and as a TD that sucks. This sucks for anyone trying to use this site.

You may read this by next years tourney, but Josh Childs won Open in a playoff against Brett I believe.
The TD and some crew are still up at the park.
Jason O'Skeletor took the ace fund.

Thanks to everyone who worked to make this event happen, and for all of those folks who didn't run over me when I crossed the street. It's alot better waking up at the lake on Monday than in Athens at the hospital

Special props to Jay for taking the ball and running with it.
The Hula Hoop became so ubiquitous that the former Soviet Union banned the toy as a symbol of the "emptiness of American culture."

As usual this was the best disc golf weekend of the year. As usual I shot like shit but played with some fun people (Not many from my division though) Special Thanks to: Jay for running it on his vacation, Keith for agreeing to do it next year, Jason for being my sous chef, couldn't have done better Skeletor! and the water boys for keeping everyone hydrated. I can't wait for next year!!

Thanks Jay!!
Will you be correcting the par for round 3 to reflect the true over/under results?
