GET-A-GRIP SHOOT-OUT / ERP Tee-Pad & AO Fundraiser - Jan25

Postby Bradshaw » Thu Dec 25, 2008 7:41 pm

Tee-Pads project still pending final approval from RP. I am placing a call tomorrow to try and close with hopes to kick-off fundraising and installation efforts Jan1 09.

The Jan25 tournament will support the ERP concrete tee-pad & signs project and/or the 2009 Atlanta Open. The goal of the tournament is to raise money and therefore will be a 33% payout. I will run one non-discriminating side pool with ERP Singles payout (i.e., 100% to top 40% of field). This is going to be FUN.

I've never played in a tournament before and I was wondering if "am" really is for your "average joe" golfer and if I need to know my handicap.

how much can we really raise for tee-pads in one tourny? I would imagine blacks installed 1st and blue next? 1,2,3 pads a hole? if not approved is this just a fund raiser for the pay outs @ the NT and the A-tier? should i just come to rdgc meetings?

If you read the first post, the goal to raise after payout is $1200. That is just entry fees and not counting anyone making an additional donation. The concrete pads (once given the go-ahead) will be poured on the black tees to begin. The long term goal of course is to have them all concrete. The AO is a National Tour event this year and a pretty big deal. The pros will be playing the black pads at the AO and also that it is the most challenging layout, which makes sense to pour the black pads first.

The approval process for getting the pads concrete has been a long process and my understanding is that 1 person at the top of the food chain is the last road block, but that could change any time. I am not sure what Bradshaw's plans are if the approval never happens, but having $1200 in hand to go towards the cause could only help towards the approval. Perhaps the money will just stay in the RDGC (Roswell Disc Golf Club) for future projects if approval isn't met, but that I am not sure about.

RDGC meetings are open to anyone interested. The meetings are a great way to get an incite into how the various park's departments work and how you/we as a group, can work with them. Also, generally we go out to Mexican afterwards, which is always a plus.

RRPD approval on concrete pads received!

Postby 12StonesScott » Tue Jan 13, 2009 5:31 pm

We just got word from Jeff Knighton with the RRPD that the department has authorized the Roswell Disc Golf Club to proceed with planning and installing concrete tee pads for the black tees at East Roswell Park. However, it's up to the RDGC to raise the funds, get the labor, etc. So it's more critical than ever to make plans to play this event so that we can raise the money to make it happen. The only thing now between us and having concrete tee pads for the Atlanta Open is money.

No online sign-up, but if you're definately gonna be there you can PM me and I'll start a list.

The club has $ to suppliment funds raised between now and installation. So, this tourney will not be the only source for raising $. We are also targeting local sponsors.

We'll have a raffle for some nice swag, cash ctps, and some buy in field events. This being said, please let me know if you have any product to throw in for prizes.

Now, since this is a fund raiser for our own DG interest, I will commit to running another tourney later in the year to benefit a Roswell charity in the same spirit as Ice Bowls.

How 'bout a Super Class event? Would seem to be in the spirit of Ice Bowls, and ERP is a good course for the type of game that Super Class is geared for. If it's the first (or at least among the first) Super Class event in the area, it'd be another excuse for some publicity. And it might give us old throw-n-catch geezers with no arm a fighting chance -- and give me something to do with my old Midnight Flyer.

Me, Ben Mayben, and Vach did some course work at ERP today. The course really needs a lot of work. I will list some of what could be done so nobody goes out there to chop and drop. With that said we need to find some time to plan a work day to install the cement tees and do other work. Until we can find a date to get out there to work on the course feel free to go out to ERP and do some of what is listed below.

Course Maint at ERP

1. Clear sticks off of fairways putting them in piles well away from the "course of play" or pile them in an area that the park staff could get to easily for removal.

2. Cutt briars and vines (remove to areas well away from the fairways of any hole)

3. Drag the big logs and downed trees off of rough or sides of fairways into an aread that is out of the way.

Until we find a date to work on the tee pads it would really help to focus on this stuff. I put in four hours of hard work today and didnt get as far as I thought that I would. If we all pitch in the course will look great by the time March roles around. Thanks for your part in this big effort.

Thanks Rand.

Yes, all, please feel free to remove dead and downed trees from the fairways as well as trash. We are working with the park to determine the scope of what we can remove (beyond dead or downed trees) and how we can remove it. As always ERP will work with us to have this course ready for upcoming tourneys.

The RDGC is meeting at ERP next Tuesday, Jan20 at 7pm with the following agenda:

1. Develop Tee-Pad logistical plan (including target dates for installation)
2. Finalize Adopt-a-Hole program (competition) for 2009 and beyond. (Thanks Vach and Ritger for you initiative with this program!!!)
3. Discuss AO business such as course prep (work days), sponsorship and hosting efforts. We DO NOT need to schedule community work days through the club, but we are going to try to schedule a couple of dates where we can leverage ERP resource to assist.

Any of you that can put in some hours, or coordinate a group for clean-up .... well, excellent!!!! The bigger impact the community makes, the easier it will be to enhance and add facilities as we move forward.

Casual Tournament Action at ERP on a Sunday.... c'mon people, what's better than that!
Sign up and help us get some concrete put in. The concrete will first get poured on the black pads, which will benefit the local pros more than anyone, yet the number of speculated pros attending seems weak. I just hope that some of the people who show up at Monday singles and Thursday doubles take a little time to come out, play, and support a great cause. Every time you tee off from a nice solid concrete pad, you can know you had some part in helping it get put in. CONTRIBUTE! Tee Pad Sponsorship Information and Adopt-a-hole information and sign ups will also be available.

If the pros don't show, why not put in the blue pads first. They get played more than the blacks anyway. It just makes more sense.

Makes sense to me.

Ironic - Playing Reds to pave the Blacks but the Blue get all of the play.

Seconded.

Pouring the blue pads first would benefit the greatest number of golfers. They are not only used the most but are more weathered and in greater need of improvement as a result. I will show up and contribute towards ANY improvement to the course but the AMs seem to be largely funding the project.

Actually I play all 3 sets. You can't change the baskets to make a new course but with 3 sets of tees it's makes for a nice change of pace and the course doesn't get stale to me.

Blacks and Reds are also much safer options as the pads don't get much use. But I realize this is also about making this an NT caliber course for a big event so I will support the efforts of the Roswell Crew

It is ironic, as others have pointed out. However, getting permission from RRPD to install concrete pads on any of the tees has been a long, slow process, and the thing that finally tipped the scales in our favor was the promotion of the Atlanta Open to National Tour event status, coupled with the nearly universal comments from the touring pros who played the course last year that the dirt/stone pads were the only real negative about the ERP course. RRPD wants the AO to be as successful as possible, and have finally come around to agreeing with us that concrete tee pads don't pose any real problem as a "permanent" improvement should the course need to be reclaimed for other use somewhere down the line. So they authorized installation of concrete pads for the black tees to help ensure the success of the AO, and to ensure that the lack of concrete pads for this tournament doesn't cost ERP the opportunity to host NT or other major events of national scope in the future.

I think I can safely say that for all of us on the RDGC board, we have no intention of stopping once the blacks are in -- we'll continue to work on raising funds for the other 36 pads, and soliciting permission from the RRPD to install them once the funds are in hand. And I should point out that if we completely max out registration for the event this Sunday, that by itself isn't going to raise the whole amount -- the remaining funds will come from sale of pad sponsorships to businesses and individuals (get yours today by contacting any board member). The entry fee money is important, but a strong turnout is almost equally important in demonstrating to the RRPD that the local disc golf community is serious about wanting improvements at ERP and is willing to show up and support the cause.

Fundraiser - Jan25- Thanks Atlanta Golfers!!

Postby Gator » Tue Jan 27, 2009 6:21 pm

Bradshaw and Imran and Crew....
Thanks for the tournament on this past Sunday.
The Jim Warner CTPs we ran on holes 6-11-13-15 raised a total of $91 ($65 went to the Jim Warner Fund and $26 went to ERP for tee pads).
Even though the Jim Warner Fund has already ended-and the course in Appling is installed- we are using the leftover discs and t-shirts to throw a free BBQ in Appling. It will take place on Sat May30th during the Hall of Fame Classic that weekend. We have already raised $186 towards the BBQ!
Look for updates on the Jim Warner Thread on this site under "Disc Golf Tournaments".
Thanks for your support-
