GSSS '09

Postby keith johnson » Wed Oct 29, 2008 11:25 pm

Yes - It's that time of year boys and girls to get out some information about the GSSS for '09

6 PDGA Sanctioned C-tier Events
First Event at THE CRUCIBLE Feb 14th, 2009 - Last Event at Lake Russell September 12-13th, 2009
Same GREAT Starting Course and Great Vacation Ending Course

Same entry fees as '08

There will also be some changes for the better, including changes in the way the Events are signed up for.
You can signup by going to the new GSSS website http://www.supersixseries.com with NO signup fees!
You can also find at the site all the great NEW GSSS merchandise including Hats, Beanies, Collared Dry fit shirts, Tshirts, Towels, etc. as well as over 285 discs with the GSSS logo on them for only $5 shipping or by picking up your merchandise wherever you see me playing disc golf (Tournaments and Doubles)

The SERIES will be BETTER than in 2008!

Thanks to all who were a part of the Series in 2008 - and if you missed out in '08, PLEASE DON'T MISS OUT IN '09!

Some info on the some of the new changes for 2009 to make the SERIES better than in '08.

To replace the basket raffle throwing for each Event, this year each player can purchase a raffle ticket. Tickets can be purchased for $1 each, 5 for $3 or 10 for $5. There is NO LIMIT to the amount of tickets purchased, and you won't have to chase you discs or get laughed at by the crowd like last year.
All monies collected at each Event will be split 50/50 with the winning number getting half of all the monies collected, and the other share going to the GSSS Charity for 2009 - The EDGE Program. If each person spends only 2 dollars, the winners share of the 50/50 kitty would be worth over 70 bucks at each Event!

5 tickets will be drawn at each Event with prizes awarded to each of the 5 (last one drawn wins the 50/50 kitty) and each of those 5 tickets will kept for the drawing at the end of the Series for the Sportcatcher basket! There will be a 1 in 30 chance to win the basket this year, plus a great chance to win some extra cash or goodies at each Event.
Seeing that all GSSS CTPS are always free and not buy-in, you can take your normal 3-10 dollars usually spent on CTP buy-ins and spend it on Raffle tickets.
(This also makes life much easier for Dawn and Lorelei not having to schlep out to various places on the courses to try and get everyone to throw for tickets.)
2/3rds of ALL money raised for EDGE during the Series will be returning to Georgia and be committed to GROWING Disc Golf in Georgia Schools and Parks.
Read more on EDGE here: http://www.edgediscgolf.org

There will be some minor changes to the Series Points and Series Bonus payouts, but you will still need to only play in 3 of the first 5 Events to qualify for the payouts.

There will also be different "players packages" for AMS at each of the 6 Events, and with the Pros voting for NO players packages this year, their "players package" will be more added money in the payout.

More info later!

Can we sign up for all, then if we can't make one, get a refund? Or.... are S.O.L. ?
Just wondering as my g/f didn't think it was funny to have a Valentines day tournament, on Valetines day. Living with them doesn't seem to count as *spending time together*

The refund policy is the same as last year, you have until Wednesday at 5PM week of event to withdraw with full refund.

If you read in the GSSS '09 chatter thread, you'll see my views on the subject of Valentine's Day.

As Kyle McLaughlin once said on Tales from the Crypt - "Women, can't kill 'em and can only fit so many of 'em in a trunk."

Now if we could just get that on a Roc instead of those worthless Buzzes. Good job Dusty and thanks for the action Keith. I'll be signing up next week for all of the events. I can only play in 2, but I don't want to be shut out of Lake Russell.

Nah, sorta like the Florida Marlins, or AZ Cardinals, having a state identity from day 1 keeps the options of expanding open, whereas doing it the other way doesn't - just like the ADGO is seeing now with all the "local" clubs forming their orgs because of limiting it to the name ATLANTA when it was formed.

Also, one only has to look at the Fabulous Florida Tour to see how it expanded by starting it as the FFF versus South/ Central Florida tour - a lot more possibilites can be/are opened up.

By the way was this post just a comment, or despair about wanting to name the '09 IDGC Series something Georgia-y?

Keith, are you holding spots or is my math wrong? When Wade signed up for all 6 you said that there were only 63 spots left so that makes 69 total but you said in the top post that the field is capped at 72. Just curious.

To Everyone,

The registration is up and so far several people have signed up.

http://www.supersixseries.com

You must be on the individual Event link to sign up for The CRUCIBLE only, if you are on the Series link you will ONLY be able to sign up for all 6.

No spots are being held. There are 10 spots still available for all 6 Events until Dec 31st, or all 10 spots sell, whichever comes first. If there are any left on JAN 1st, 2009 then they will be added to the individual Event total.

The whole reason for making the 10 week window, was to eliminate the selling out months in advance and to give everyone a fair shot at getting in to the Events.

12 people so far have signed up for all 6 which was posted.
6 spots are for Team Georgia which were already accounted for.
10 spots are still available for all 6 until December 31st which was already posted.
Which left 44 spots at midnite to go on sale for Event #1 - nothing funny going on and all numbers are accurate.
No one gets in without signing up and no one has a spot held for them.

A reminder that I will have all the GSSS goodies with me Sunday at the Cold Snake Classic - presented by Disc Caddie.
Get your shopping donme early for that favorite disc golfer in your family.

Thanks for the contiunued support!

I've always said the first 72 people to give me money are the people that WANT to play my Event.
If the Event was all ams it wouldn't bother me 1 bit, as they always signup, they always buy stuff and they always are appreciative of GREAT payouts, wheras the pros are "mostly" the opposite for signing up and buying stuff and require alot of sponsorship gathering to make the same GREAT payouts, which being a TD yourself should know.

Ya I was talking about Georgia's team pros  ......love ya guys

All of the GSSS merch is now in my possession, and the stuff looks GREAT!

Anyone that wishes to order stuff and get it right away without waiting to see me at an Event can get anything they wish for only $5 shipping no matter how much you buy.

It's my gift to everyone for all the support shown to the GSSS!

Jon Morgan becomes the first Athens player to signup and by doing so will receive a GSSS item when he checks in!

You all never know what little goodies I'll give away for the Series like I did several times last year for no reason.

Last year over $2000 in merchandise and cash were given away "just because".

This year I will do similar giveaways "just because".

Stay tuned for more! tm

By the way only 27 spots left now.

So, who out of the frist ten that signed up won the $100. Inguiring minds would like to know. Also, do we get the $15/event online players package like last year? If so, I over looked my voucher codes. Thanks again for the action Keith. I can't wait for some revenge on The Crucible. Losing to Gomez last time is just too much to handle.

First post line 6

Thanks for signing up and you can blame Chappy for picking Wade.

Since you will be in SC instead of at "theP" on Sunday, you can pick up what the others did who signed up for all 6 Events when I next see you or at the 1st Event.

20 spots left!

Updated players list:
http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results? ... =8441#Open

15 people so far have signed up for all 6 Events with 13 of them being Ams and 2 being Pro Masters.
There are 22 days left for the 7 remaining spots that are reserved for all 6 Events, so if you wish to be assured of being in all 6, please signup before those 7 spots are gone.

So far only 14 pros(7 Open) have signed up for an Event that had 20 Open players last year and 26 Pros.

If you are one or have any Pro Open friends, and you want to play the CRUCIBLE, please signup before the spots are sold out.

12 SPOTS LEFT!

Updated Players list can be found here:
http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=8441

There are 8 PRO OPEN and 8 PRO MASTERS signed up so far, with alot of the PRO players from the FLYING EYE and the first GSSS Event in '08 conspicuously absent.
Childs, Chipman, Cralle, Cuban, Cunningham(might be Sarah's caddy in FL), Drage, Eberhard, Henley, Hornsby, Makarovich(now signed up), Matlack, McElreath, McMillion, Moose, Muren, and Nye all played one or both of the CRUCIBLE Events in '08.

If you know anyone above that may want to play let them know time is running out to get signed up.

There are already 16 players signed up for all 6 Events (with only 6 spots left for all 6 Events) which are available until the 6 spots are sold or DEC 31st - whichever comes first.

Whining by the PROS is not an option.

Thanks to everyone that has signed up so far!

Even though this event is about 2 months away, what are the possibilities of this course being set up before the event? I know that there are always requests for early set up, and the parks department (or someone ?) generally restricts this due to other park activities, but just hoping that maybe it could be set up early assuming that there isn't much activity in the park during the winter?

I would really like to play the course sooner than the day before (or day of) the tournament, since I haven't been able to make the last few events there.

I may be wrong, but I am recalling that this is a "temp course" that only gets set up for special events, which is why I am asking, and if this is incorrect, please disregard.

Thanks

There is ZERO chance of it being set up early. It has nothing to do with other activities since it is not in the park.

Just a reminder to all, that like with the GSSS'08 Events, there will be NO Wait lists for ANY Event. Lake Russell had one only because of selling out literally 5 & 1/2 months in advance. The changing and cancellations of 20 people in the 3 weeks prior to Lake Russell caused me to come up with a better idea.

That led to the change for the GSSS'09 Events to only turning on registration 10 (TEN) weeks before each individual Event, and limiting the all 6 Event signups to 22 to keep all 72 spots for all 6 Events from selling out before the first Event.

The first posts in this thread and the Registration link at http://www.supersixseries.com both have the Individual Events dates for the signup to be turned on.

Short of setting up a cloned course so that I could have 144 players, all I can do is keep everyone updated with the counts as they are selling - which I did.

I also reminded everyone to tell their friends that don't frequent the message board, and mentioned it incessantly at every doubles and local Event I played At White Oak, Perkerson for both the ADGO Member Event and Montlhy, and the Cold Snake Classic presented by DiscCaddie I talked to anyone who would listen. since turning on the registration page NOVEMBER 1st.

By now EVERYONE knows the deal that hasn't just moved to ATL in the last 10 months. I can't do anymore.

So if you missed Event #1, the signup for #2 begins on JAN 10th.
Don't get shut out! tm

Sincerely,
Keith

No wait list? That doesn't make sense. My situation is that I have been unemployed for 5 weeks now and I won't know if I will be able to afford to play until at least a couple of weeks before the tourney. What are you going to do when someone drops out? Make a post and the first person lucky enough to be online gets in? That doesn't seem fair. Thanks.

THIS TD has posted the same info for '09 as for the '08 Series, so it is no surprise to anyone who has been around, and THIS TD will not get involved in defending what has been posted for the last 14 months on the various GSSS and Individual Event threads.

I've made over 1500 posts since the board crash in June of '07 and probably 1000 or so have been along the lines of XX spots left, Dont get shut out tm so there is really nothing more to say about it.

Subliminally in the background are the words JAN 10th

From the Athens website, this link has distances that are mostly what I use, and a map of the course. It is NOT a permanent course and has NO ACCESS except for during the time frames of the Events held there. http://www.athensdiscgolf.com/course_long.html

There are going to be different players package things for each Event and right on the players package card (white card) it has the expiration date - The PAYOUT voucher cards also expire before the next Event which I mentioned at the start of the 2nd round players meeting as well as at the start of the awards ceremony, as I'm keeping each Event indivually this year as last year it was difficult to carry thousands of dollars on the books waiting for the vouchers to be used, so please use any you have before March 21st.

Most of these 19 sign-ups were RECREATIONAL players. PROS IF YOU WANT TO GET IN - DO IT NOW!

Back from Vegas and we're down to 11 spots left as Greg Campbell has paid for a spot, but it's not off the GSSS website yet.

I can't believe that for next year, I'm going to have to put the Events on sale 5 days before to keep them from selling out 2 months in advance.

In all seriousness, I am EXTREMELY grateful that the players have shown their willingness to play to GSSS Events and are making sure they don't get shut out! tm

44 spots sold in 86 hours!

Event #1 at the CRUCIBLE took 15 days to sell out.

Event #2 at McCurry took 34 days to sell out .

Event #3 took 86 HOURS to sell out after holding 1 Event.

So here's a contest for EVERYONE (whether or not you are playing in any of the Events)
Event #4 at Blairsville goes on sale April 11th. I will give a GSSS disc of your choice to the person who comes closest to actual hours Event #4 will sell out after going on sale at Midnite April 11th. Being Easter weekend and with the course being in the North, I'll say somewhere in the high 100's(but don't let me sway your votes  )
Votes may be sent by PM only on this message board and will be counted until 5PM on Lorelei's Birthday.
That doesn't leave you much time to vote. (No sarcastic comments from Woody please  )
Winner must NOT GO OVER the actual hours and can claim their disc any time after the Event sells out.
This will also be posted in the MAIN GSSS thread and you are welcome to tell your freinds.
Only ONE Vote per person, and you MUST let me know your real name in the PM, or the vote will be VOIDED and will NOT COUNT.

Have fun and enjoy voting!

Only 8 more days until Event #4 at Blairsville goes on Sale!

The counter will start at 44 SPOTS!

Don't Get Shut Out! tm

I will be stopping by there to see it for the first time on the way back home Sunday after caddying for Lorelei Saturday at Sarah's Jr's Event in South Carolina.

I'm hoping it will be as nice as everyone says it is, and hopefully since the Event is in June, no one will have to play in the snow this time.

PLEASE, don't change anything about the course. It may not be perfect, but every time you alter the layout for one of your events means there is less consistent data for a course rating. Leave well enough alone and we'll deal with it.

Having played this course once, i think he will alter it considerably. The short tees are just too short, in my opinion. Heck, it's not much longer if you play the back tees.

Was there today, and it's not bad the way it is - I only saw 3 squirrely things - Holes (8/15 which should be switched for course flow and the 12 and 17 Short tees)
For GSSS #4REC will play all short tees except for 2 holes which REC will play long tees - 12 and 17 (12 doesn't change the shot or avoid trees, and I don't get 17 being where it is for short tee compared to the rest of course layout for short tees.)

Adding 2 mandos for safety and OB where I don't know if there is already OB played locally or not.
With only 1 PDGA Event played there so far, I don't think anything I do for 2 rounds will affect the course rating.

Hole by Hole Descriptions will be posted in the Event #4 thread later.

I agree with Keith in that Fivesomes stink for tournaments. I think that everything that he has done for series sign ups is perfectly fair. If you really want to get in, start setting 10 bucks a week aside or make plans, the dates are posted.

That said, I think that 5-somes should be considered for Lake Russell. It is different from all the other tournaments - it's a 3-day party and celebration of disc golf  . As much as I hate 5-somes, I would not mind it for this tournament - the more the merrier (as long as it is not more than 90). If need be, we can make it 89 and ensure that Keith is in a 4-some.

I agree with Funky B about Elberton just think of the payout for us BAGGERS. Unless we play the back 9 then make it a 108 4s on each hole that might be just as fast as 5s on each when doing 18. Keith you are the man and this GSSS is the new tradition for Ga.

The woods holes are shule and not tournament-worthy. 90 players duking it out on one of the finest disc golf courses in Elberton...

Keith should just alter the woods part of the course, like he does all the others  and open the field up for this one! The more the merrier at Lake Russell. Plus its the final one of the series, so it should try and accomodate as many players as possible. I am only sorry that might be the only one I get to play this year( if I don't get shut out).

I think Keith should let me sign up for Lake Russell today. Afterall. my needs come first and everyone would be sad if they didn't get to see me in action.

And let's not forget the great job Keith and his family have done to make this series happen. Props Keith.

To help kick things off for the start of registration for Event #5 in less than 25 hours from now I've got a sale going on on selected GSSS Merchandise that will last until June 17th, and besides the sale prices on the selected items, if you spend 50 dollars or more at the store, you'll get a FREEGSSS Super Color mini with your order.
You can find all your GSSS items on sale at the link below, as well as the that's the place to be Friday May 30th at 12:01 AM to get in for Event #5!
http://www.sdsproshop.com/cat-gsss---2009.cfm

I'll also offer up the sellout guessing game again - and for the person with the closest guess to the hours until Event 5 sells out without going over I'll have a prize package to give to the winner!
PM your guess in WHOLE hours only between now and 12:01AM on the 30th to be eligible to win.

Thanks again to everyone for their support of the SERIES.

On a spreadsheet and Ill post them in the future - there are not too many people that count towards points this year that have played all 3.

Why don't you signup for #5 now while there are still 3 spots left instead of wondering about points?

MPM(partial)
(3)Jon Plotky 4 7 4 = 15
(3)Woodrow 6 4 5 = 15
(2)Rousseau 8 5 = 13
(1)Shuman 7

....unofficially of course.
I was only requesting verification.

If you actually read the points info only players in 3 of the first 5 Events matter, so until 3 are played, they aren't tracked - and technically they don't exist for me until the 3rd Event is played - hence my not many people it matters for comment earlier.

Just got the call from INNOVA that the Inncolor and Hotstamp discs for the 2010 FCO 5 super tour which will wrap up the GSSS'10 next year are shipping out today and I WILL have them in time for this GSSS #5 (FCO 4)

Sales of these discs cannot be done online until SEPT 1st, but I am allowed to sell them in person or though PM's or E-Mails before that time as I already had some sold before the 12 month date restrictions were told to me.

So there are 23 of Each of the 3 different logo InnColor Discs available. They are only available on Star Ontario Rocs and Star BB Aviars form Innova - there are 46 Rocs and 23 Aviars available for sale at $25 each or 2 for $45 - ALL PROFITS will go towards the purse which will have a GUARANTEED $2000 First place PRO Open payout.
There are 7 different models available with the Hotstamp which will be at differing prices depending on plastic.

PM me here or E-Mail me at keith10444(at)aol.com to pre-order yours now!

I'll post pictures later tonight when I have access to them at home.

Discs have arrived and look WAAAY better in person than online.

Sold 9 discs at Central dubs today. I'll have them available for purchase at Wills Dubs every Wednesday, plus this weekend at both Central park Events.
You CANNOT use any GSS payout vouchers to purchase any of the fundraiser discs. Cash or money order only.

Only 20 of each INN Color logo for the Ontario Rocs are left, and 22 of BB Aviar.
They are $25 each or 2 for $45.

On the Hotstamps - for the collectors - there will only be 10 of Each of the 3 hotstamps made also, so once the 10 of Dusty's logo sell on the discs below, his hotstamp may go on other Innova models, but not THESE models, and the same will hold true for Nathan's and Andrew's Hotstamps - making any of the Hotstamps VERY RARE - and as Innova changes models available for the CFR program, sometimes models are discontinued, so if any of the ones listed below are YOUR favorites buy what you can now!

Star models are $22 each or 2 for $40 and the Champion discs are $20 each or 2 for $38.
Just a reminder that ALL of the profits form these discs will go towards the A-Tier FCO 5 GSSS 2010 Series finale next fall.

10 CFR Star Whippet Golf Disc
10 CFR Star TeeRex-X Golf Disc - 4 left
10 CFR Champion Gator Golf Disc
10 CFR Champion Glo TeeBird TL Golf Disc - 9 left
10 CFR Champion Glo XCaliber Disc
10 CFR Champion Glo Destroyer Disc - 9 left
10 CFR Champion Glo Wraith Disc
10 CFR Champion Glo Coyote Golf Disc - 9 left

I looked at your bonus series payout info page for the gsss09 and I have a question. Do you have to be playing in the finale to accept bonus payout? Do you have to be present to win? Do we have to exchange all bonus vouchers directly following the tournament like all other amateur payouts?

I feel like a no, yes, yes is coming but I had to clarify.

no, no and no - sorry to spoil your plan.

And all GSSS Events aren't that way, only the ones where Chris(Solstice) is actually playing - as it's kind of silly for him to haul the stuff from Alabama and then tell people you can go get the same stuff online. Hope you understand.
For the points vouchers - if you ARE there, I would prefer if you used it that day, so I don't have to drag everything back with me, and have you also waste $5 or more of your voucher in shipping costs, but if you WANT to do that, it's your money.

Re: GSSS '09 ---- 2010 Fundraiser Discs!

UPDATE! 8/24/09

The quantities are going down, and they will next be available at Lake Russell, so if you would like a particular model, please PM or EMail me with your choices, and I will pull it aside to make sure you get it.

Only 14 of each INN Color logo for the Ontario Rocs are left, and 14 of BB Aviar.

10 CFR Star Whippet Golf Disc - 3 left
10 CFR Star TeeRex-X Golf Disc - SOLD OUT!!
10 CFR Champion Gator Golf Disc - 6 left
10 CFR Champion Glo TeeBird TL Golf Disc - 6 left
10 CFR Champion Glo XCaliber Disc - 5 left
10 CFR Champion Glo Destroyer Disc - 6 left
10 CFR Champion Glo Wraith Disc - 6 left
10 CFR Champion Glo Coyote Golf Disc - 6 left

You can also find a limited suppy of the INNColor discs at Bradshaw's store in Marietta for those on the West side of town who wish to purchase them for the same prices!
Wes Campbell also has a limited selection with him for those of you that play doubles at Central or Wills

Thanks to Jason and DiscCaddie along with Wes and DiscmanDGS for supporting the fundraising effort.[/quote]
