11 people signed up yesterday. Could this tournament sell out in less than a week?

I'd sign up but the online registration is blatantly discriminatory towards us aging ams. Will there be an Adv. Masters division?

S.D. - Is there any way to mail in a registration? I have not seen a posted flyer. Not bitchin', but personally I do not want to pay 8% more for the privledge of signing up on line.

Well, like a good concert, it's worth it. I've always had conflicts of interest and can't wait to play this tourney for the first time.

I thought it was TicketBastard for charging all the fees? I guess the days of cheap registration are gone, I liked it when it was $0.32 for the stamp.

Tell me about it. I bought tickets for the Snoop Dogg concert next weekend. The ticket price was $35 for the lawn at Lakewood, after all of the hidden fees each ticket ended up costing $47.65. That's like a 35% increase.

I prefer snail mail, but online signup is easier. At least there's no question that you made the tournament.

I believe we now have 41 registered players (yeah, yeah, fuzzy bookkeeping... I'm not in charge of registrations), which means only 31 spots left. For years people have talked about how early this tournament will fill, well, this year it actually will.

So if you are planning to play please get your registration in soon!

Sunday is a shotgun start.

I still really like the idea of tee times, but it's more of a pain to run and very (very) few of the ams went out to watch the pros when they were done. So we'll just take advantage of having only one Sunday round, start late, and get people out early.

We're finalizing the players pack right now. I don't have the flair for drama that secrets require, but I don't want to announce anything until we're sure what we'll have. After all, if everyone gets excited about their day-glo pink, naugahyde upholstered disc golf hammocks and then our source falls through, we'd have a riot on our hands.

Crucible = Top tier course in world? (according to those who have played!)
As this is my first attempt @ the crucible I would have certainly liked to play in advance.

I ALWAYS think before I say anything degrading Municipalites that allow courses to be on their property, which is a huge difference in disagreeing on design or TD principles.

Postby SlingShot » Thu Oct 09, 2008 2:19 pm

There are reasons why the crucible is only set up from time to time and they are the same reasons why we can't get on the property a week in advance. Doug Porter, the park's dpt. and other locals, before each event held there, have to cut acres of waist high grass and clear the land that the crucible is on. When you play you will understand the massiveness of this property and how much work goes into this. Therefore, if they did all that work 1-2 weeks prior to the event it would need to be done again. The park also has no real way of monitoring that part of the park, so for security and safty reasons they do not allow people out there. Hope this clears things up a little.

It may be a good idea to edit your post, Kade, before Doug or anyone form Clark county gets upset.

What's the basket situation there? Everyone brings their own? Or does Athens have a set?

The only reason I ask is because I hope not see Keith's DB-5, if that basket spits me one more time....I may see how far I can toss it.;) :D If a basket is needed I can provide a Chainstar, DISCatcher, or Mach III.

I don't own a DB-5 Kevin, I have a Chainstar. (that was Terry Lynch's DB-5 who was kind enough to have it there ready to go)

There are baskets already at the Crucible - 18 Discatcher Pro portables with the threaded green bases and double chains!

Save your gas money by leaving yours at home.

Mc Curry's was Andrew Jenkins.
If locals have a basket, when I only need 1 - I ALWAYS let them bring it as I don't have any extra room in the van to begin with.

There is sometimes dubs on the Friday before, just check the board for times - I'm sure someone will post it if there will be.

See you there!

If you are planning to come play on Wed or Thurs early (that is, before noon) please call Doug 706-742-2738 and we can probably get someone there.

Sandy Creek Park does have camping, but the tournament is not technically in the park, and the park closes the gates pretty early. You can call the park 706-613-3631 and ask for details on camping, make sure to ask what time the gates close and be sure it works for you.

Practice round on wednesday?

Postby hyzerfool » Mon Oct 20, 2008 1:49 pm

Is anyone planning to come up on Wednesday, early afternoon, for a practice round at the Crucible? There's a newspaper reporter that wants to take some pictures and talk to some players...

... so, if you want to be WORLD FAMOUS please let me know by emailing doug@lynxdgs.com

Flynn, Pop, and i will be leaving early friday, may or may not play doubles.

How is doubles going to be run, i remember the Feburary tournament the int and rec golfers got to throw from short teepads.
I remember Dollar saying "we didn't have to use any of my drives because my partner threw from the short pads."

If its like that again i won't be playing dubs.

It's random-best shot. Everyone pays the same, everyone plays the same. Last winter doubles was lame. It ain't gonna be repeated. Those that can't handle it don't have to play. Peace.
I think, therefore, it is!

So do you know what a 1000 rated round on the Crucible is under pretty normal conditions like this weekend? Just tryin to figure out if I shot above my rating

I always have an awesome time playing the Crucible. thanks to all for the hard work and smooth tourney. You deserve an A tier every time.
Cheers!

The tournament was run very well. I like the tight ship you run. Sorry I played my worst tourny ever!!! Good to see all the talent we have in the area.

Keith gets the "Mooses Most Impoved" award. Too bad you didn't quit caffiene 16 years ago. Congrats to Brad,Kevin and Courtney for solid performances and to Brett R.......thanks for not finishing second......again. Go back to Pro Open and break the curse before its to late.

My wild-assed guess is that a 1000 rated round will be something like 65 or 66, but also remember that because the par for the course is higher than most courses that each shot will be less than the normal 10 rating points, maybe more like 7-ish (but I'm really completely guessing here, so when I'm dead wrong don't hold it against me).

So then that would make a 61 a 1028? I'm thinking that 61 is closer to a 1050ish, which would make a 1000 rated round a 68ish. I could be wrong though, this would just be a shot in the dark.

Thanks for everything Doug I know everyone had a great weekend!!

Last years tournament results have Phil's 59 @ 1046 and a 66 @ 1000.

BTW, tournament schedule is back up on PDGA and Player stats are available from the tourney schedule.

There may not have been any 1000 rated players last year either and i think we had a couple this time around. That may be a better assumption though with a 66 or 67 being 1000 rated this year. Who knows, guess we'll have to wait for this dumb PDGA website to be fixed. Whoever those people are.....

It looks like they have some things working on the website, but my link to submit results still isn't working. I've asked the PDGA and am waiting for word on how to get the results entered.

The PDGA confirms that we can't upload the results yet. I will get them up as soon as the PDGA is ready for it.

As for the article, yes, it was nice. The odd part was that we gave them 3 CDs of pictures and they chose 3 pictures from the putting contest... still, always nice to get some publicity.

I just discovered that I left my Roll A Chair stool on the ground after the awards. It has a back and "Albers" is written on it in a couple of places. Please call me if you have it. 404-787-1162.
