MONTICELLO DOUBLES TOURNAMENT/ LAKE JAM JUNE 7

Postby Mr. Anderson » Sat May 10, 2008 5:04 pm

The Monticello Disc Golf Duo have been working toward a new course... and another DOUBLES TOURNAMENT-- Saturday, June 7, 10:00 am. The course has changed since February's successfully fun doubles tournament. It will feature 9 holes in the woods and 9 in the open. Half of these are brand new; so new, in fact, that NO ONE has ever played them all (not even us). The course will play much longer than the first tournament with a few new ones in the open that feature elevation, distance, and a basket in a sort of hole in the ground.

By the way, Monticello is about 50 minutes southeast of REDAN PARK, making it 15 minutes south of Covington and 25 south of Conyers.

CTPS on every hole!!

We plan to make the party quite wikid.

PARTY FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY AT LUKE'S LAKE HOUSE.
Tubing, barbecue, bikinis (if you bring them).

STAY AT LUKE'S PLACE or MR. ANDERSON'S, but call ahead to reserve a spot as neither of us have mansions.

Confirmed Teams:

Djester and Company (defending open champs) OPEN
Woody and Jordan OPEN

Mr. Anderson and I are partnering up this time to deliver a thrashing to you fools. We plan to cheat like hell.

THIS TOURNAMENT WILL BE ADDING TO THE JIM WARNER FUND

As for the course, we have two new fairways cut, and plenty of modifications on the older fairways. We'd originally aimed to make the course longer but were not granted temporary status on a section referred to as "Mars". There will be a lot of birdies; the winners in open last time got (I think) -15 per round. I expect scores to approach this.

CALL FOR BASKETS--though we've got 9 new baskets, all of the holes are not temporary. It appears we'll need several temporary baskets. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN BRING ONE.

All you guys who vanished after the last tournament need to bring a bathing suit and an appetite and stick around. I got the boat running last week; therefore, I plan to use it. (notice the impeccable grammar?)

mr. Anderson and I teamed up today against the new layout and shot a respectable 43. This layout is definitely tougher than the first one, but it still should be a birdy-fest.

Team VeminNUTinator will be there...2 Masters + One Cart = One A$$ Kickin'. Is there a Rec Division? We both qualify..If not, please place Pnut and myself in AM division.

We will only be day trippin' down Monticello way so your accomodations will not be required even though we appreciate your offer.

Exactlly what was I thinking when I wrote that?

We might not need temporary baskets for the tournament; we're waiting right now for the welder to fix up 8 new sleeves. If the weather holds, we'll concrete them in and need only roll-away basket for June 7.

Can you give us a break down on the holes before we get there? Mainly just a best estimate on the distance? If not, could you just have that info written on the CTP envelopes when we check in. I don't think I want to get in on the action for a 500ft hole that I have no chance of winning, but would gladly get in on anything 300ft and under.

Good suggestion Vern. Mr. Anderson is measuring holes, so we will definitely post the distances/write them on the ctp envelopes.

TO give you a guesstimate, we have 2 or 3 <200, 12 or so between 200 and 300, one at 350, one over 400, and I think one more over 340.
Look for more specifics soon.

JORDAN; 2 rounds Saturday, first round starts about 10 am.

I have heard from at least one person that is looking for a partner. Please come on down and make yourselves at home here. If you can partner up before Saturday, great. If you can't, we will work something out that morning.

Hole 5 Par 3 184 feet
Hole 6 Par 3 200 feet

Hole 8 Par 3 218 feet
Hole 9 Par 3 190 feet OB on the hole

Hole 10 Par 3 188 feet OB on the hole
Hole 11 Par 3 270 feet OB on the hole
Hole 12 Par 3 238 feet
Hole 13 Par 3 260 feet

Hole 16 Par 3 260 feet OB on the hole
Hole 17 Par 3 272 feet
Hole 18 Par 3 206 feet OB on the hole

Please consult other posts for directions. If ya got GPS, we are on Ted Sauls Road in Monticello, 31064

Please call 706 476 3252 if you need any assistance

Alright, I have a PDF of the Disc Golf course, don't know how to paste/post it here.

I am working on getting sponsers from local eateries. DQ is quoted as being the cleanest in Georgia, we also have a Blimpies, and I hope to get something from our local pub/lunch place.

BTW, hole distances were measured with a measuring wheel, approximately along the preferred flight path. Some settling may have occurred during shipment, so distances may vary. In other words, they are accurate to a point, plus or minus, but the ground is bumpy, and they not measured as the crow flies.

We are playing two rounds on Saturday, doubles style. I am more than open for a singles event, two rounds, on Sunday. Please come challenge me, Luke and the course, by your lonesomes.

As of 8:30 tonight, we have sixteen baskets in the ground. We are digging one more hole, and the other will be a temporary. We have a basket to use for that, so no one really needs to bring baskets.

the longest hole--I think it's around 467'--is the fourth hole in the woods. In the last tournament we played the short pin--there's a pair of trees in the middle not far off the tee sort of akin to #15 at Redan. Now, if you throw to the short pin, you basically have a short drive to get to the basket. I think it is probably a legit par 4, but I really want to see how the field does.

THE PARTY will be immediately following the tournament at Luke's House (well, really we start at Luke's on Friday Night). We will have barbecue available (pay a few bucks, get fed, and donate to the Jim Warner fund) which will feature Luke and Rob Kelly's "Dueling Barbecue Sauces". I plan to gas the boat up for Saturday night and Sunday. If you have a ski boat and want to bring it, do so; we have a ramp at the end of my street. My boat is actually a fishing boat that one may tube behind or ski, provided one isn't REALLY LARGE.

We have a fine swim area and a dock. Bring the swimwear, Das Karl. I want to see pale, hairy legs the likes of which haven't been glanced since footage of acid-crazed hippies at Woodstock.

Clunck Cashes 2 for 2 at the Perk

How can Clunck be an am when he plays twice at the Perk, cashes twice at the Perk and scores the same average score as PRO Josh Henley?

It only makes sense

Postby Laserman » Fri Jun 06, 2008 2:47 pm

It makes too much sense not to do it. After all, based on the notion of event-based behavioral abstraction (EBBA) we specify properties of object-oriented distributed systems in linear time temporal logic. These properties are then compared and it is proven that due to the specified behavioral constraints...

What an awesome Saturday under the intense heat wave! Big thanks to Mr. Anderson, Luke, and R. Kelly. Let's do it again sometime in October/November when Carl's Bag-ometer does not register 100 degrees!!!!!! I would also like to thank the “pros” that played in there division.

Yep, nothing like driving 222 miles round trip to play in an Am Division with regular pros in it. Woo-Hoo! I can here it now from the top cards……..”We just kicked some Am booty.” Yeah baby, right on, we gonna get us some tonight.

Seriously, I had a great time, with some great people. I just worry that the next time someone else wants to try and raise money for a course, Jim Warner, or just plain side action and they use the format Pro or Am), some Am players may just not make the drive as donations can be mailed :)

222 miles

Postby Laserman » Mon Jun 09, 2008 2:17 pm

Damn Jay, 222 miles. Next time skip that extra lap around 285 and get off at the first I20 sign you see. It would also cut down on your commute if you stayed on 20 until exit 98 instead of getting off at exit 82.

You do have a good point about the pro's though. Any team that birdies 11 straight holes just might be good enough for the pro division.

1. I had to take 285 because of the paving conditions at 75/85.
2. No extra lap, I am just driving from Maberry RFB, errr I mean Ball Ground.
3. Mapquest and see which one is shorter. Route recommend and taken by Mr. Anderson himself on a daily basis.

We told Hazel she could skip it like a rock in the lake. She was just so cute that we all said it was OK.

Vern,
Did you download the Clay Aiken songs that Carl requested before you gave it to Hazel?

Lazerman is right, I do drive the speed limit 95% of the time.

Clunck - Well I'll just let that "and approach & putt" remark go because no matter what I say to that one, it will reflect Clunck and Redan Randy as well...... seeing that the two lower rated players (Scott & Jay) finished in a tie with two higher rated players (Clunck & Randy) after 36 holes :)

I realize that i am MUCH better then you guys(Jay,Pnut,Scott,Vern, etc.), but lay off Clunck. He will get better and move up the ladder. I think we are fine where we are, you guys need to move down. You really slowed things up with your Rec play! 8) Thanks sooo much to Luke for the best hospitality, brunch was the bomb on Sunday! Mr. Anderson for the hard work he has put into the course, i will have itchy memories for a couple monthes. R. Kelly for the delicious meat and beans, if i didn't tell you about those beans in my special way this weekend, maybe next time!

Wrong.

BTW, Fuel costs were below a buck a gallon as few as 5 years ago.

'Smooth Up in Ya' was performed by the Bullet Boys. Good call, Chappy.

Props to Luke and Mr. Anderson for hosting a cool event, and thanks to R. Kelly for the good eats.

Nice Keith or Evil Keith, I'll have to go back to the Paradise where it all began to figure that out.

I don't know which would be worst:
1. choosing a guy that looks like a woman
or
2. choosing a woman that looks like a guy

Keith please help here....

I'd have to go with No.2 since atleast you get the bottom half, and you could always use the *Clunck technique* aka bagging method as described by Paul earlier in the post

And let's not forget the all important "double bagging" method. Safety first!

MDGC

By the way - The course was very fun. It was nice to stay in the shade of the trees for most of the rounds. The Monty disc golfers have obviously done a tremendous amount of work. I like the stump placements on hole 13. They kicked my disc back towards the pin.

This tournament helped raise another $260 total for the Warner Fund.
Rob Kelley raised $130 with his great food and Luke/ Mr Anderson raised another $130 at the doubles tourney.
The BBCue and Enchiladas were a hit! Thank you Luke for Hospitality!
The Warner Fund is on track to Raise the entire $5,000 by early '09. Whatever we raise is being matched by Jim's mom.
There will be a ceremony when the IDGC opens in early 2009 @ the Jim Warner ( East ) Course and both Priscilla Warner(Jim's widow) an Dorothy Wentz ( Jim's mom) will be in attendence. Jim's ashes will be placed in the cement for hole #1. The course is being worked on ALREADY!!!
After the generous Wills Park donation of $470 on Wed. night, the JW Fund is now over $3,650!!! Less than $1350 to go!!
Look for CTPs at local action.
Thanks Again ATL Golfers!!
