Postby Imran » Thu Apr 03, 2008 10:19 am

Fayetteville is not on my tour schedule.
Plus, I have a problem keeping up with 4 scorecards. DOH!

Plus, when some tells you to bring the rain. They don't mean literally!

Last two spots saved for whoever will cough up 200 bucks - you get a spot in the tourny, a tourny disc, parking place, and first swig from a 2 litre bottle of Pepsi....

Not even the slightest bit funny Bob (except the Pepsi part).

Lake Russell was a special situation to give a procrasting golfer the chance to have a spot in the finale, campground space, (which are almost all gone 5 months ahead) tee sign sponsorship, and Event disc for almost the same price(depending on division) as it would be to get all of those separately.

No one forced anyone to wait to signup or to choose the TPD tm if they wanted to play.

No other event has/had ANY spots held out, or a waitlist, and they will not for Events 3,4,or 5 either.

Lake Russell is a special place and deserved to have special ideas applied to it like other big events around the country do.

If anyone in Georgia ever travelled more than 500 miles from home, or read the PDGA discussion board about tournaments, nothing I'm doing would be surprising to them.

The Virginia Open sold 180 spots(90 am and 90 pro) in less than 48 hours on Saturday March 29th., because last year it sold out in 3 weeks and people knew they better not wait this year.

Marshall Street/ Maple Hill Open sold out in 1 day every year
after year 2.
Closer to home Earlewood sells out in 1-3 days every year.

GET used to it and over it Rob Jr.

Yep, another sell out well in advance of the weather forecast. Sounds like a recipe for some great golf weather. What happened to the days when you could check the weather a week before the tourney and decide if you wanted to trudge around in the mud?

Half of the GSSS tourneys have taken place in the pouring rain.

Prediction for Fayetteville: Rain.

CORRECTION: 1/4 of the GSSS Events as the first round was bone dry and in the 70's.

Half of the ATLANTA OPEN took place in the pouring rain.

I didn't make any money off of that.... I almost broke even.... lost like 6 bucks (maybe it fell out of my pocket)

it was mostly for fun....and a good way to still be involved in the tourney.

Keith.... are you saying if I cook some chicken at one of your events, that I'll have a spot for the tourney? Team Ga. Chicken Cookers ?

No one has seen supersized Central yet.

That was supersized lite.(only 11 of the "supersized" holes were used)

By the way it didn't rain on the Pros at Central where I was, so "your"
Karma was off by a day.

In June if you are man enough to leave the underground, you might get a chance to go to Rock Hill by playing the SUPERSIZED course, and have some spending money along with your prepaid entry into the USDGC.

Of course if that scares you, you can still sign up to play the course at Central during Event #5 where you can hide out with the ADV players and still play the same course as the Pros.

But you better hurry as there is only about 30 spots left for Event #5 at this point.

You, Moose, Rob and Gomez have NEVER offered to cook at any of the events I've run, so I guess you'll never know.

I guess I need to be named Imran or Ritger to get your quality food at any Event I'm running.

Well if you'll consider this as an offer: 8)

I'll cook at any of your events.... and I'll even save you some chicken incase I sell out. You don't have to offer any spots for me in the tourney, because I couldn't play if I am cooking.... I can do burgers, hot dogs, and stuff like that to make it easier and less expensive for me and the golfers.

If you had an *R* in your name we could almost make a ritger or imran name out of the letters

I will check with the Park Person in Fayetteville to see if they already have a food vendor as that county had some squirrelly things required for the Event, but for sure you are on for Central on Aug 2nd if you want to do it.

Matt Flynn at Nacho Mama's is covering the Augusta Lake Olmstead event.

Let me know about Central and when I get an answer on Fville, I'll check back with you.

Proposed payouts will be posted later this weekend.

Only 20 pros (18 men),
After 2 good showings of 26 and 27 pros (23 and 25 Pro men), this one is the course the pros are scared of.

Wes Campbell thanks the pros for making him wealthier!

Remember there are still 17 tee sign sponsorships available for Event 3 and you can still get a tee sign for 25 dollars or a tee sign and disc for 35 dollars!

Some other information:

I will have 50 of the BRAND NEW STAR XCalibur with the GSSS '08 custom mini hot stamp available as Tournament Fund Raisers in the next week, and I'll run a mid Series special of ONLY $20 for the first 25 sold!

There are 27 traffic lights on the 14 mile stretch of GA 85 from the I-75 exit(237A) until you make the left turn onto Hwy 54 East at the old courthouse (which is one way). They are NOT timed very well as the next light turns red just as you are moving forward. I was stopped at 16 of the lights going to the course and at 11 of them coming back home.
The speed limit also is mostly 45 miles an hour with one short piece at 55 mph. There were cops stationed in 3 different spots along the route also.

PLEASE allow extra time to arrive at the course on May 10th so you do not miss the check-in or players meeting.

I'll see everyone in less than 4 weeks!

I had a VERY Nice phone conversation with Sheryl Lee at McCurry Park today.
Starting from the beginning:

1) Answer to Josh -
djester Posted: Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:38 am
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll cook at Central..... and McCurry if needed

The county has a food vendor that will be supplying food for sale at the course which will include Vegetarian stuff as well as the usual burgers, dogs, chips, sodas, waters, etc. - with all the proceeds to benefit the Special Olympics which the Park is behind 100%.
There will also be a Soda /Water cart that will travel throughout the course with stuff that can be purchased during the rounds.

2) PARKING: Please park in the lot next to Hole 16 which holds over 40 cars, as there is only room for a few cars near pavilion #2(the large pavilion) which will be tournament central. You can access the parking by Hole 16 by continuing on McDonough to the traffic light, then turning left for 1/4 of a mile, and turning left again where the Park sign is.
It is a very short walk to the pavilion from that lot.

3) The path that runs along Hole 9 and continues down by Hole 5 basket and then across 4's fairway will be blocked off on both ends during the day, which should keep foot traffic on the course down quite a bit. Also the swing near 10's basket will have caution tape around it to keep people off of it during the day.

4) This Event is VERY important to the Park and they are sending out a press release to all 4 newspapers that serve the area. There is talk already of a FUTURE course that is possible in the area, so I'm asking everyone to be on good behavior so we can set a shining example of Disc
Golf to all who may be seeing it for the first time.
Randy Harris is spearheading efforts with the county, along with a few others to make McCurry park better in all aspects.
Please respect the hard work and time that they have put into get the course moving forward.
The players in Event#3 will only be there on May 10th, and I wish to be able to go back in the future. Thanks to all who have offered support and help so far, as it is appreciated.

5) There will also be alot of FIRST TIME tournament players at this event, so I ask for patience in advance at the Players meeting to make sure EVERYONE understands Tournament play. I look forward to meeting all the new golfers and there will be....

So why did you make a new hole 2? And did you create a new tee pad at #11 cause it is definitely not 750 ft. from the original tee pad

1) Because original hole 2 sucks and only has a way to basket from about 75 feet away, and the #2 I'm using is just a little longer than the original hole 3 which is a much better use of the land.

2) Yes for both pools as the Pro/Advanced is down in the gully making it more of a challenge and the Rec tee is forward, creating a fairer shot taking OB out of play off the tee for that skill level. The tee that's there is very unfair to Rec players when using the path as OB.

Except for the portable basket for hole 2 the course has been playable for 3 weeks, as every place that the tees are not "original" were flagged and the hole by hole descriptions posted on the McCurry GSSS info thread have the locations if the flags are moved/gone.

I will be there this Sunday to mark the tees with paint and string the OB lines, so there will be little needing to be done on the 10th.

Naomi Manning had to also drop due to back issues, so there are now 2 spots available for next Saturday at Fayetteville to the first 2 who PM me about them.

Last call for tsign sponsors as the deadline for inclusion in the progam and getting a tsign is Tuesday at 5PM, there are still 15 spots left for anyone interested.
$25 for just the tsign or $35 for tsign and disc.

More info about next week later on.....

I spoke with Debbie from Parks and Rec yesterday afternoon to confirm the food setup for the Event.

They will have biscuits, sausage biscuits, some fruits, and bananas for early arrivals thru the players meeting available for sale .

Then for lunch they will be selling Chick-Fil-A sandwiches and Veggie wraps along with water, sodas, gator/powerades and cookies, brownies, and snicker power bars for dessert/snacks.

For sure during the 1st round and possibly during the 2nd round(depends on scheduling) there will also be a cart that will travel around the course selling waters, sodas, snacks, etc. in case anyone is looking for a mid round pick me up!

All of the proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics in Fayetteville, which Debbie is in charge of.

Please keep them in mind, and when you come to the course please be sure to thank them for making things easier for us as there is really not any places around the course for food, and you will be also helping a REALLY great cause at the same time.

Thanks again to Debbie and Sheryl for making us feel welcome at our appearance at McCurry Park!

Please keep in mind that it will be in the mid 80's during the day with lots of sunshine , so please keep hydrated (plug coming) by getting plenty of fluids from the cart driving around the course or by stocking up before the round starts. There will also be water at holes 1, 6, and 12 for refills.

See everyone in 46 hours!

There are NO wait list for any of the GSSS events except for Lake Russell as it sold out 5 months early.

I'll say it again for all those who don't check the board often.

If anyone wants to drive to the location of the Event on the chance you might get in you are welcome to show up, but in events 1&2 only 2 spots did not show, so take that for what it's worth. I do not encourage anyone to do that which is why I don't have waitlists.

We'll be done by 5pm Woody, but if anyone in the south doesn't bring umbrellas to EVERY tournament they play in they are just asking to get wet or sunburned.

This tournament was definitely put together well. Thanks to Keith and all that contributed to making McCurry a success. Hell we even got to see some poor old man's Minivan get chunked by a Wraith!!! Absolutely hilarious. What are the chances of that happening again. Sounds like Lightning. Wish i would have played better, but all in all it was a great event. Minus the Pig griping about the two cars at the end.... There has got to be more important things to do , other than threatening a $250 dollar fine... See all next week at Ridge Ferry III
