I hate to down volunteer work...but the new tee pad on 8 is about 5' too short. Just saying.

Just by the picture I would have to agree with manhattan. Unless your a natural who can throw 463 with a 3 step approach. Also that seems to be above ground slightly which means even if you start behind the pad you have step up onto the pad while your doing your steps. I have not played the hole and i hope this isn't takin the wrong way. I appreciate everything you and everyone else does for disc golf i guess this is just my two cents

We have been working on the course slowly but all the baskets have been painted and the Tee signs on 1-4 are in, the rest of the Tee signs have been prepared and are awaiting installation. We have made many attempts to find out who donated money for improvements at Deer Lick I would like to have added there names to Tee signs. If the weather holds out over Xmas vacation time the remaining Tee signs will be printed and installed. My apologies to those that donated money.

As for hole number 8, a standard Tee box is 5 1/2 X 10 1/2 we made number 8, 6X12 by 9 feet in the back, we took into consideration the terrain, and opted to have the front of the tee pad level with ground since most people will step over the front of the tee pad after they throw.

We will talk with the park department and see if they have any extra dirt (see hole 16) that we can put around the tee box to both level and extend the rear of the tee pad.

Hole number 8 my need to be concrete pad but because of money constraints this will have to wait until money is available.

We will be out at Deer Lick to work on Hole #8 and extend the front of the tee pad by 2 feet, also work on hole #5 to level it. On Saturday Aug 20th if any one would like to come out and help, we should be out around 0800 and work a couple of hours with a round after.

More work has been done to the Course than I can go through and mention, the Douglas County Parks dept. has been bush hogging, moving down trees, filling in water runoff area’s and so much more. The Course looks great and only a couple of more things need to be done, I would like to say thanks for those who came out and worked, to Darren if he had not shown up I would have quit after redoing #8 and Dave and his son for all their help, although I think Dave’s son was sweating harder than Dave , but the playground kept calling , We will follow up with pictures but you really need to come out and play it, the course looks great.

No worries Bob - everyone is now using Sundays and especially 3rd Sundays for Events now - so it doesn't bother me anymore - hell I even scheduled the Bonus GSSS Event on the 3rd Sunday. (I guess that means that you and Greg won't be playing the GSSS Event then though.

To keep the tradition going, I'm gonna change all the GSSS Events next year to the 3rd Sunday, so that even I won't show up any longer.

It's a shame that people pick on a course without even going there now that things have improved and giving it a chance - with the 4 new and more coming soon multiple pin locations(all towards the right side to help balance the course) benches, regular mowing schedules, the time I've put in to keep things trimmed and maintained so that players can enjoy their experience, etc. - all have improved for the better and now that they have a better idea on what golfers are looking for, they have been working to keep improving the course on a regular basis.

If everyone doesn't give it a chance or scoffs at every attempt to promote it, then what incentive do they see to keep it up and improve it? They realize they opened it before they should have and that hurt them a little bit, but they have gone overboard since then to make sure to try and improve things, listen to golfers concerns and help make things better.

Look at it this way - if this same thing was happening to "theP" when they were trying to get things estsablished, do you think the city and the neighborhood would have supported putting it in permanently if there was only 4-15 people showing up every month?

Actually Kieth, I thought at first you were referring to Deerlick VS> Lula. Deerlick gets a bad rep. for some reason. It's probably because it is so awesome and most people have an awesome level that only goes to 6. Deerlick's awesome level is permanently set at 9 and that throws a lot of people off. I might suggest that people get their awesome level reset to comprehend up to a 10 or 12 level course, then they may be able to accept and appreciate courses like Deerlick, Sequoyah, and Lula. Don't get frustrated, it's just the masses that are blinded.

I have yet to play Lula (boy that sounds suggestive...), but have only heard good things.

I will say that I think Deerlick has always been underrated. I'm not a big fan of hole 11, but perhaps that's what keeps the awesome level at 9 instead of 10. Great holes: 3,4,7,8,14,15,17 and 18. And the rest are fun too.

It's also on the West side of town, which seems to be unfashionable with all the Gwinnetians and other East-siders. I'm glad to hear Deerlick has been going through improvements, because I was underwhelmed last time I was there (it was over a year ago, maybe two). I'll put it on my to-play list. Douglasville is an hour's drive from my side of Marietta, but if I recall the park is not hard to find.

Deerlick is like an old friend. Consistent, loyal, and true. It's truly one of my favorites. Sure, she's the redhead with braces but at the end of the day she'll does something that that the others can't do. I can't wait to see what Merritt and Darren have done. Played the course on Sunday and it is looking great. All the baskets are painted and super bright. Several of the tee boxes have been leveled out with gravel. Hole 16 is back to its former glory. Seriously great work by all that were involved.

I like the changes so far for the most part. I think that new 1 (old should probably be 18. It would be a great finishing hole (for spectators too if we have another tourney there).

I really like the new pad on old 5 coupled with the new pin position. The new pin position on old 7 is okay - I think the right position is better, but if both are in the ground - it is a nice change to alternate that one. 16 is fine - makes for a really tough and well-earned 3 on windy days.

The cleanup that has been done is unreal - whole place looks great.

Thank you for the hard work - makes the 75 mile drive worth it.

Stop copying me Bob - GREG already has said he doesn't like it because no one watches.......I was the first one to say it made no sense in the new numbering on this very message board in this very course category on this thread here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3898 on March 2nd at 8:16PM...9 as 1 would have been perfect for flow and make 8 a great finishing hole, but as you yourself have said many a time - I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to course designing.

Please be careful on old hole 4 /new hole 15. There are a ton of wasps nesr the basket where the creek curls around behind it. I plan on going out Sat. and spraying, but until then be safe and watch for them.

The storms washed away both bridges on 15 & 16. They're about 100' downstream. Not gonna be easy to put them back. Maybe with about 8 people we could pick them up an carry them back. Or if I can get my jeep close enough I can winch them.

Never thought that bridge would be moved. Hope it still fits! You may find the older bridge about 300' from them. Washed out with the 100 year flood.

The park has given us permission to drive my Jeep down to the creek on 15 & 16. We're gonna try to winch the two bridges back in place. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. We should be there by 9:00 this Sunday.
