Some info for the grand opening tournament, as well as other general course info:
There were many discussions on what to call the annual sanctioned tournament out at LMP. Little Mulberry Mystic? No... Mulberry Madness? No, already taken.... Then one day, while talking with Sean from Jacobs Inc., he said, "you should call the course 'The Ham and the Hog", HOG it out on the front 9, then step out in the field on hole #10 and HAM it up! After further thought, we concluded this was pretty brilliant. It was unique, had local geographical reference (HAMilton Mill/ HOG Mountain Rd.), and it just seemed fitting of the property for some reason.
So running with the swine theme, we have come up with three basic combinations of basket locations. The "Bacon" layout will be the easiest, the "Pork Chop" layout will be the opposite of the Bacon, and slightly harder, then the "Fatback" layout will be everything long, Par 60. For the grand opening tourney, it will be the "Bacon" layout. This makes the most sense with the baskets in their most visible and easiest location, since everyone is playing the course blind. For those of you that really want to study the signage to get prepared, here ya go...
Bacon Layout- Easiest
1A, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5A, 6A, 7B, 8B, 9B, 10A, 11B, 12B, 13A, 14B, 15A, 16A, 17B, 18B
Pork Chop Layout- A little harder
1B, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5B, 6C, 7A, 8A, 9A, 10B, 11C, 12A, 13B, 14A, 15B, 16B, 17A, 18A
Fatback Layout- Everything long, most difficult locations.
1B, 2B, 3A, 4B, 5C, 6B, 7A, 8A, 9B, 10C, 11A, 12A, 13A, 14A, 15A, 16B, 17B, 18B
Also some info on the designed difficulty for the course: When PED met with the GDGO before the design process started, it was determined that Gwinnett needed a true advanced level course. (the target being a 950 rated player) Lenora, Alexander and now Suwanee Creek are great for the rec/intermediate and intermediate/advanced players, but do they really challenge the 950+ rated players in the county? Next, it was determined that the short tees at LMP should not be designed for the Rec player since Lenora and Alexander both have solid Rec pads. The short tees at LMP have been designed for the Intermediate player in mind (900 rated). So there are no true Rec tees...sorry. This course is purposed for the more advanced disc golf user group in the county. If you play LMP and your game isn't quite there, go back out to Alexander or Lenora and polish your skills, then come back for another shot at the Ham and the Hog!
