Just curious, why not open the field to say 27x4=108. It is a valid 27 hole course(i love the woods holes). I say more the merrier, especially for the series finale. It's your show and i appreciate you running it and I'M IN! But i do see the advantages to having more people in an event, especially this one. I'm sure your reason is a valid one, i'm just curious why you are so firm to not opening up the field if the demand is there.

You answered your own question and everyone opinion on the wooded holes is NOT the same, as well as doing other things that may be taking place.

If/ when it sells out I'll worry about the backlash, until then if anyone knows people that like the course but dont frequent the messagebaord, you could earn brownie points by letting them know.

By the way last year only had 56 players, so there did not look to be any need for more than 72 at the time the Series was proposed.

I'm not averse to change as long as it doesn't screw over the people that are signing up on time.
My feelings on adding holes or making things uncomfortable for the people that signup on time are VERY WELL KNOWN, so I'll just leave it as

there are 26 spots left.

I've never had to register for a C-tier 6 months in advance!! You need to use the 6 'decent' holes in the woods or do something to increase the field. This is ridiculous.

Or not.

What is ridiculous is that you are worried about something that has been edging that way for the past couple of years.

You should get used to the fact that events are selling out all over the state and the days of signing up day of of at the last minute are over.

It is also that way in most of the countries events now also.

Even Bowling Green sold out 720 spots a month early.

You can always just play at Redan second Saturday's if you don't want tournament competition.

The first GSSS Event sold out 2 weeks early, 2nd sold out 5 weeks early, and 6th one sold out 5 months, 2 weeks and 3 days early.

At this rate next years SERIES will be sold out by the end of APRIL

So if there are any of the others you want to play sign up now and don't get shut out tm.

Does that mean we're in? YESsssssss!!!!! :D That's incredible that this event is selling out so early. Way to go ATL for showing the rest of the country how to Pre-Reg, congrats to Keith for having an event in such high demand and having a venue to allow people to get in early. This is a trend you will see more and more for good events. The demand will far exceed the number of spots available. These events will start selling out in minutes after the registration goes live!

I better sell out events in 3 days like Earlewood does next time or I'm just gonna cancel.

That does bring up an intersting point though.
Do you have a free for all registration 2 weeks before the event and hope for the best, pissing off the multitudes whose mail arrives 1 day late or sell spots to people who are willing to play your events by signing up in advance, pissing off multitudes of people who don't sign up online in time to not get shut out.

I've been burned the other way running events, so I think I'll stay with what works!

More on this later
.

It's time for more!

First, thanks to everyone who signed up!

I will tell you of a few ideas that I can for now and I'm still working on other things that are not finalized yet.

I have been dealing with the Park for a while now, but I've sped up dealing with the Park to get things worked out so that I can pass the info along to everyone as quickly as possible.

First is that the format for now will be 2 rounds of 18 on Saturday and 1 round of 18 on Sunday morning with a final 9 that counts for score for the top 4 of certain divisions.(don't ask me which divisions please, as it is not set )

Also the payouts for the Series bonus and Points payouts will be settled as well as lots of prizes given away and the basket raffle winner will be chosen.

As most of you know already the cabins have been sold out since January, (I wonder how many are by golfers?)which I found out when I was reserving my campsite in the beginning of February.

If you can, please sponsor a tee sign as there will be lots of people who will play the course that weekend and the signs will be placed by the road near tournament central after the round on Sunday before the final 9, for all the park patrons to see as they drive down the road.

Lastly for now, the part that some of you may like me for it, and some of you may hate me for it, but this type of "deal" has worked for Marshall Street, the West Virginia Open, and the USDGC, so I'd figured I'd give it a shot.

When I reserved my campsite, I reserved 3 others to use for this idea.

I have kept 3 spots "open" for Event #6 and I am offering them as a Tournament Package Deal tm

One entry($50), one campsite for Friday and Saturday nights($50), one Tsign for the Event($25), one and 1 Event disc($25)
$200 total for each of the 3 spots.

The 5 people already on the waitlist will have right of first refusal on the spots(in order of the list) and by next Friday at 5PM if any Tournament Package Deal remains, I will offer them (cash only)first come-first served to the players PLAYING at Deerlick Saturday morning when I'm doing the drawing for the $100 Lake Russell giveaway.
If any still remain, I will offer them up to everyone else.

Thanks again to everyone for their support, and I'll post more stuff as it
happens.

I have an idea that may make the people who signed up, the people who want to play, and the tourney as a whole, happy.

Open the extra 9 hole, to 4 people each, under the condition that they are sponsor holes only. Every player would have to sponsor 20-25 dollars for the right to play. The people who are signed up don't have to pay sponsorship to play. The people who really want to play can. And the tourney prize pool is raised.

I doubt this will happen, but I was just trying to help find a way to get some more people in. Remember that this tourney has happened for the last nine years because the people playing wanted to have a good time enjoying the weekend, the lake, camaraderie, food, ect... , with friends.

The Lake Russell tourney has always been more about the whole weekend experience with the golf as a great side note. A lot of the tradition that has carried and made this tourney great for nine years may have been forgotten in the bid to make this the GSSS finale.

Just my opinion, but it does seem to be a win, win, win, way to go.
That was in, cocker block doesn't count!

I'll make it larger again for everyone to see

As we all know it is over 5 months away, plenty of time to do things.
I'm also aware of the history and having been there last year for the first time and camping with MY family, understand the WHOLE aspect of hanging out FIRST with Disc Golf being part of the equation.

It is the MAIN reason I offered to step up and run it - so that there WOULD BE an Event there this year, as it looked like it might vanish.
(sounds of squirrel, and hotlanta events blowing away entered here)

If everyone will relax and wait and see, I'll think you'll be happier with the outcome, but then some of you don't like being happy, do you?

A couple of things I wish to be clear on also.

The first post in this thread which started the count down was on Feb 19th,
and was very clear about the #. I kept up the countdown religiously, (aggravating some by doing so  ) so no one can say they were surprised that is was sold out, unless they live in a van down by the river.

Also since disc golf is secondary to most of the people at Lake Russell, remember the PARK is not sold out, only the tournament. So EVERYBODY that wants to come to Lake Russell is welcome.
The course will only be in use for the GSSS ALL DAY Saturday and 2/3 of Sunday, the rest of the time it will be available for play, so you can still bring your discs.

Lastly for now, it is over 5 months away, and I'm focusing on Deerlick (next Saturday - SOLD OUT!) and Fayetteville (May 10th - ONLY 33 spots left) right now, and will keep everyone updated on all the events as I have from the beginning.

Thanks again to everyone who understands the way disc golf is growing and is supportive of my Events.

So what you really meant by 'SOLD OUT' was all, except for the 3 spots you 'saved' in order to get more money from those that missed out due to your obstinance about using the holes in the woods. Wouldn't adding 36 more players be more effective for increasing the purse? Just what is it that prevents you from opening the tournament to a bigger field? Are you so determined to make sure that you FILL all of your events or are you just using this as an excuse to teach us all a lesson? Extortion is not the answer.

Words, words, words; So why don't you do something about it and open up the field? It's as simple as that and it's not like it hasn't been done before. I'm sure you will still get additional sponsorships and I'm sure the sites you've reserved will get taken. This event has always been the one tournament each year that is the true celebration of all the friendships, camaraderie and love of Disc Golf for this area. To deny that for so many for what seems like no good reason, just doesn't seem to fit with all of the accolades you are continuously extolling upon yourself.

Go ahead now, make Dale Carnegie proud.

Are you kidding?

Everything you posted is assinine and uncalled for.

You are welcome to play in any event that meets your criteria (oh wait they don't exist anymore  )

On Feb 19th there was 55 spots left, and you as well as everyone else could see the countdown.(you even commented on it a day before it sold out, but still didn't signup, (maybe hoping for some miracle? )

As I have said, even I didn't expect it to sell out already, but it did so deal with it.

Even the Atlanta open with 90 PRO spots sold out over 2 weeks early and some local pros didn't get in, if you get Rand to add holes (Central has 27 holes you know  ) then I'll be happy to do the same.

Lets go back in the time tunnel to Lake Russell when it went to 2 days and it was just show up and play.

2004 "B-Tier" 72 total players, 23 total pros, $1625 cash paid to pros.

2005 "B-Tier" 65 total players, 25 total pros, $1525 cash paid to pros.

2006 "B-Tier" 74 total players, 29 total pros $2038 cash paid to pros.

2007 "C-Tier" 56 total players, 27 total pros $1390 cash paid to pros.
2 rounds of 18 on Saturday, and 1 round of 27 on Sunday.
There couldn't be more than 72 players

2008 "C-Tier" 72 total players(capped), 25 pros(as of now) Approximately$2400 cash paid to pros based on Events 1&2 payouts
Things look pretty similar total player-wise and total pro wise, with the differences of payout and selling out in advance.

I think that in your mind and everyone else's that is upset about not getting in you all are being nogstalgically incorrect that the disc golf tournament had hundreds of people playing with no one turned away, and that mean ole Keith has just come in here and destoyed all of it.

The numbers are there in black and white for all to see, so you can't go changing them around to try and back your weak argument.

I'll assume that you don't wish to take advantage of the Tournament Package Deal.

I'll keep you on the waitlist if you want as with it being over 5 months away I'm pretty sure some people will forget, some will have injuries/family/job changes that may keep them from playing, and you'll still be able to get in and play.

I'll see you next Saturday at Deerlick (thanks for being the last in to that one! )

I agree with and applaud Keith's stance. If you add the other (crappy) holes, once the new 36 spots are filled, someone will still bitch and want to make five somes. You have to draw the line somewhere. Sorry Woody. I could understand if you weren't a frequent message board user, but you really don't have a leg to stand on here.

Since this event is completely sold out this far in advance,
Can I get a PDGA sanctioned C tier event for the same date in Monroe GA? Sept 6.

no conflict if you are sold out right?

Keith,

I would like to understand what happened with the three extra spots?

I tried register on Thurs. and I was put on the waitlist. The very next day you announced it wasn't sold out if I paid $200.00 for a package.

This confuses me. I wanted to play and there were spots open. Why did I not get one of those spots?

Keith,

You don't have to defend yourself to me for any reason. Earlier in this thread you said you were done defending yourself to me?!? All my registration remarks were "in general" and always have been. I'm always looking for the way to make everyone happy. Not just me. Plus at this growth rate we (all disc golfers) might have to start looking at changing tourneys. In more than just registration.

But building off my last post, maybe you were feeling guilty for not letting people into the elberton tourney when there were three spots left. So you jumped on the defensive quick.

Rob, I had the counter set from the time it was at 25 spots left to keep the 3 spot open for the Tournament Package Deal.

Can you imagine the complaining if people signed up and COULDN'T get in because of not stopping the signups?

I always set the counter so none of the events can over sell, and people mentioned it when Athens sold out 2 weeks early(remember that Rob?)
Remember me NOT playing athens because I let you play for your birthday and one of the sponsors shows up after everyone was on the course already?
It was mentioned again when people couldn't get in when Deerlick sold out 5 weeks early, so why it a surprise now?

I am not making any snap decisions, and it would not even be an issue if it hadn't been for people whining instead of signing up. (like Woody as well)

I already explained what I was trying, who I stole the idea from, and how people would react.

You can choose to take the deal, sell the campsite to someone else who can't get one when they sell out in May or June, sell the disc to someone who wants one, and put that you hate me on the tee sign.
Then you would at least feel good about spending the money.

I have been dealing with the Park for a while now, but I've sped up dealing with the Park to get things worked out so that I can pass the info along to everyone as quickly as possible.

I don't see why this would be a conflict if an event is sold out. I am aware that the 50 mile radius thing with C tier events but I thought it would be an ettiquette thing by not scheduling events that would be in conflict with other tournaments within the area (I consider Atl within the area for me). For example, the Augusta top gun series which has been on the calendar way before the GA state qualifier. I'm a little bitter bc we support you atl guys as much as we can and try to schedule around your tournaments bc they are fun to play in but I am disappointed that this is not returned to the Aug club. Quite a bummer!! who wants to buy my spot for elberton?

Since you obvoiusly don't know the story since it has long been settled with Chuck, is I told him it was fine with me if he wanted to do it.

The thing you obviously also are missing is that the USDGC qualifier is NOT a sanctioned PDGA event and had to fit in with the schedules at Central Park and be done in time for the player to register for the USDGC deadlines.

You obviously also missed the fact that I set the dates for the GSSS back in Sept/Oct of '07 when there were ZERO sanctioned events in AUGUSTA, then Jason had the IDGC series starting in Dec stepping on 2 of the GSSS dates, and the top gun series added 6 more events in Augusta in February '08 to the schedule and then the Augusta Classic was also added.

So Augusta went from 1 PDGA sanctioned event in 2007 to NINETEEN PDGA sanctioned events in 2008.

You obviously also did not read the message board last year before the crash when several times I asked people to move stuff to accomodate Augusta events. It seems when you look at the facts that AUGUSTA does not try to work with the ATL area.
I'm even a member of the Augusta disc golf club and have helped out there, as well as chose there for 1 of the GSSS Events events even though it is over 2&1/2 hours from my house to get there.

So if you wish to not play at Lake Russell because of some perceived issue that I settled with Chuck the VERY DAY he posted 2 &1/2 months ago, then I guess I won't see you there.

Otherwise, if you would like to talk to me first to get the truth before you just make stuff up, my number is readily available on this and the PDGA websites.

Keith

PS..... Most every one of the Augusta area golfers I have met are nice, outstanding people, INCLUDING the ones at PDGA Headquarters, and this post is not meant to disparage any of those fine people.

NO its the tone you imply in your messages. We appreciate everything you have done for the sport. However, it is OBvious that I didn't read any of these messages since I joined a few weekes ago. Furthermore, I am not sure how things work with who gets what dates when it comes to scheduling tourneys, I have just noiced that most clubs try to hold their event on the same day as the year previous and sometimes people don't get their stuff in the first day of the year or in your case the year before. So, I am presuming that if you snooze you lose? And I am not attacking you, I'm just stating my opinion on a subject that you've already handle but was not mentioned elsewhere. I am not mking anything up, that is how it reads in this message board, there is NO perspicuity in what people indite!

The tone implied is a direct response to the tone YOU showed in saying I was the cause of Disc Golf downfall in Augusta.

2&1/2 months after the fact you qoute Chuck and say this:
I'm a little bitter bc we support you atl guys as much as we can and try to schedule around your tournaments bc they are fun to play in but I am disappointed that this is not returned to the Aug club. Quite a bummer!! who wants to buy my spot for elberton?

I guess I just misunderstood your post seeing that I can't read or comprehend what it says there, which if I was smarter seems like you aren't happy, but maybe bitter and disappointed and bummer, and giving up your spot in My event maybe means you're really EXCITED to be part of it.

Sorry for misunderstanding your posts here and in the other tournament threads that you chastised me in, as I thought you were upset. I'm glad to see that it's just my reading comprehension skills that are off.

Also, just because you didn't join until a few weeks ago, how was I supposed to know you never looked at the site, since you can read almost every thread(including tournament threads) without being registered for the board?

Again I'm happy (really) to answer anyone's questions about scheduling or how things work in the disc golf world the best as I can, and if I don't know the answer I'll find it out and get back to the person.

I have spoken with Jason, Jimmy, Addie and Brian about the stuff that was going on in Augusta, but THEY were the ones that scheduled the AUGUSTA events on the same days as events in the ATL area using that 50 mile excuse as reasons for doing so, even though it has not hurt attendance at the conflicting events, it has made several events that myself(and I'm sure other ATL golfers as well) would have played, not playable.
Also the Top Gun Series events have not even officially been sanctioned by the PDGA which means that they and other events don't have to avoid
each other anyways no matter how close they are.

Anyone for a PDGA Sanctioned warmup in Augusta for the USDGC Qualifier instead on the 14th since the date is OFFICIALLY open?

See ya,
Keith

No Pop,
I get defensive over lies, or deliberate attempts to try to stir things up, as I'm not afraid of defending my positions on things instead of just rolling over like a little girl when someone disagrees with something because they don't understand disc golf design concepts or playability of a course for tournaments. Anyone that wants to know how they stack up can take their best score from playing the course as it is now and then compare it to what the pro and advanced players shoot on it June 21st.

Pretty damn simple way to see how they stack up without them being "FORCED" to play it in a tournament condition. Or they could move up to advanced and play it during the tournament if they wish.

Either way works for me.

And the only thing I got from the ADGA was a business card as they were setting the site up and redoing it when I joined last year.
If I am supposed to get something, please donate it to a local player at one of your doubles or Top Gun events for them to use.

Thanks,
Keith

Lies? Or attempts to stir things up? I am glad you defend yourself for what ever reason you deem necessary, as everyone should. I have not lied about anything, I have only stated my opinion over the confusion of what is going on and was curious as to why things were done the way they are. I can see that you do get attacked on here a lot, and that was the last thing I intended. Shouldn't we listen to fellow disc golfers instead of getting upset with what they have to say regardless of whether you agree to it or not? My comment about selling my spot was a bad attempt to be funny; there is no way I am going to miss playing such a fun course and I apologize for that.

Oh no!, one round of 18 on Sunday at The Lake??? :(

Well, any of you who wish to get in two rounds on Sunday who weren't fortunate enough to make the final 4 cut (probably like myself), I will gladly run a "Lake Russell non-sanctioned side action, blind draw doubles, golf maximization, weekend wrap-up, feel good round" after Sunday's round.
I must maximize my golf during my once a year "wife has already signed a 10 year non-negotiable contract" vacation tourney. I hope you can understand Keith, but I can't spend that weekend watching others do what I wish to be doing and wait for all year.

Please consider these suggestions for next year:
1. Use all available holes.
2. Allow a max field (5 per hole).
3. Two rounds a day for all players or one round on Sunday using all holes.

I mean no disrespect to your efforts. ...just a desire to play as much golf as possible before my vacation comes to an end. Thanks for stepping up and running the action at The Lake! Can't wait!!!

That was three months ago. So I was wondering.

Great suggestion Imran for more action if he uses the 3 round format.

32 hours till event # 4.

11 WEEKS and 1 day until Event 6.

I'll worry about Lake Russell MUCH later.

PS...Correct me if I'm wrong, but why would you even think of not being top 4 going into an Event?

Glad to see everyone is still excited.

Ummm, what exactly am I correcting? Usually a correction is made to a statement not a question. But, to answer your question, because I'm going to the event for vacation, hence the phrase "vacation group".

P.S. - Although I did place top 4 last year. But, I think there were only 4 players in the Advanced field. ....just kidding.

Imran and Jay - Great idea. 27 holes with threesomes makes so much sense! But since Keith didn't think of it - I suspect he will not use it. There has always been two rounds on Sunday but who cares about tradition? Who cares that Keith's "Final Four" concept will leave well over half of the field out of the afternoon action.

Imran, I'd like to volunteer to be your afternoon round assistant TD. Unless Keith shocks us all.

I will tell you of a few ideas that I can for now and I'm still working on other things that are not finalized yet.

I have been dealing with the Park for a while now, but I've sped up dealing with the Park to get things worked out so that I can pass the info along to everyone as quickly as possible.

Just curious Keith - what was this stuff you were working on with the park and the info you were going to pass on to us as quickly as possible? It has been 3 months since this post. Did I miss a post here or on some other thread?

....not to mention how the field limit of 72 is stupid in the first place! Lane is looking like a reasonable TD after all.

Since you came out and stated he won't use it, he probably now will.
Nice reverse psychology..., uh-oh, now that I pointed out the old rev-phsyc trick, it's a reverse reverse phsyc. Don't worry, I will use the jedi mind trick.

Keeeeith, you will use the 27 hole format on Sunday with 3somes. (waving my hand from left to right like a jedi knight).

If that doesn't work , next idea will be to just jump his ass in the parking lot and start pouding him with 2 liter diet cokes.

Yeah, you missed it. It involves the 'special' package deal where Keith saved 3 spots in order to extort more funds from anyone wishing to get in after the 'magic 72' spots were taken.

Thanks for the clarification Woodrow. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of this quote thing too. I figured it out now - Keith was quoting himself, without using the official quote method, two days after the package deals were announced. I misunderstood this to be new words of wisdom from Keith. My bad...

Imran wrote:Oh no!, one round of 18 on Sunday at The Lake???

Imran - Pretty presumptive to decide what YOU are going to do on Sunday when I haven't even said exactly was going to happen yet.

Woody & Paul- Quick reminder of a post from EXACTLY 3 months ago I made when all the whining first started. And Woody, I like your theories that $50 bucks is "Extorting money", because you weren't smart enough to signup instead of whining when there were still at least 5 spots left, as well as you being upset about the limit of 72 when it has only once been over that number by 2.

Also for Paul who even though he now knows how to quote, he still hasn't figured out that reading comprehension part yet, so here is my post from March11th when there was still over 30 spots left hinting at the TPD tm,and if you look in Large blue print you will see that LAST YEAR when JAY, you and Imran were running the event there was only 1 round on Sunday. You gotta lay off all that beer, so you can remember things better.

I'm BAAAAACK from vacation to tell you:

ONLY 33 SPOTS LEFT!

Over half-filled already!

Remember only 18 days left to get in on the 100 dollar special below, that was posted on Feb 26th.
If the finale sells out BEFORE Event 2 at Deerlick takes place, I will have a drawing for a $100 bill to be given to 1 of the 72 players for LAKE RUSSELL at the DEERLICK Event. (MUST be playing at LAKE RUSSELL to accept)

I also have a deal coming up for this event that will be announced in the next couple of weeks for those of you who procrastinate.
There will be NO EXTRA players or holes added to "this Event" so if you wish to play sign up soon!

Don't get SHUT OUT! tm

Keith

As everyone can see who can comprehend what they read, I had not at this point finalized everything, and still had PLENTY of time to work out all the details before posting them, which are still NOT set yet, but you can see by the hints that there will be more news coming.

For Chad Rickel, Redan Randy, Imran, Paul, Woody and everyone else reading - As for the rest of the story, now that we are closer, and I don't have to do much for Event #5 since the Players are in, as well as the course and prep is already set, I can focus on Lake Russell and as soon as I get things finalized I will post them as I always have done.

63 holes

Postby Laserman » Mon Jun 23, 2008 10:32 am

Hey don't blame me for getting the number of holes wrong from last year. I just looked at my score of 249 and figured it had to be 72 holes. Forgot i was throwing left handed.

Which earlier post of Chad's are you referring to Keith?

Are you talking about this post?

Clunck wrote:I have an idea that may make the people who signed up, the people who want to play, and the tourney as a whole, happy.

Just wondering.....

If this were to happen, I wonder if after the handful of pros take advantage of this opportunity and sign up, will the advanced or intermediate divisions fork over $100.00 to play and fill out the field?
That's a lot of money considering travel, lodging, Gold Bond, etc.

I wanted Paul to do the reading and research, not have you just plaster it there 5 seconds later. No offense meant by the thanks a lot Jay statement, it's just difficult to have people learn to read if everyone just does the work for them.

I'll make the statement more bible belt friendly by paraphrasing - give a man a fish and he eats for a day, TEACH a man to fish and he can eat everyday.

You are stating the OBVIOUS Woody, everyone whining already considers me an A>S>S, so your posts do not SAY anything worth comprehending. My responses are only combatitive if called for. I'm sure you can find many posts where I answer questions and questioners quite nicely.
Vegas Thread today for one example. I can also argue with the same person on 1 thread and agree with them on others, as I have the ability to treat each thing individually and not as a collective as anyone that actually ATTENDS our BOD meetings can attest to.

How about actually debating or discussing why YOU think that everyone who is complaining is living in this dreamworld past history that I have shown with COLD HARD FACTS did not exist, but I'm the bad guy for running the event?

Try postulating a response that doesn't make me respond like an A>S>S, instead of how you responded earlier in the thread when you could have prevented yourself from having to whine about the sellout.

I respond to people the way they DESERVE to be responded to when I have put all the info and countdowns out there the entire year for people to follow, and they wish to whine about it instead of signing up.

If they were straddling the fence about signing up, I was the first one to tell them that it is easier to signup and withdraw (you have until the Wednesday before an Event to get a FULL refund), than to not signup and get shut out.
If you look at EVERYONE of the tournament threads they ALL say the same thing as it gets closer.
I make NO APOLOGIES for people not taking responsibility for entering an Event, as I have given them EVERY oppportunity to do so for plenty of time BEFORE the event sells out.

By the way, posted below is what the park had told me about the fees and I asked them to send it in writing. You'll notice the DATE IS MARCH 20th, the same day I announced the TPDtmThis is what the $50 in sponsorship money was going for - to help cover the FEES the park is charging per person PER DAY for Disc Golf fees.

Everyone was going to be on their own for the park fees as always, but I was/am trying to get the disc golf fees covered, so the players do NOT have to pay them, as they do not have to PAY ANY FEES playing any of my events. If you'll notice most tournament flyers, you are paying course, PDGA, series, Park or several other types of fees, but NOT at any of the events I run. But $288 dollars just to be on the golf course for the Event has to come from SOMEWHERE.
Trying to be creative and kill 2 birds with 1 stone, I thought up the TPDtm, which accomplished part of the goal and benefitted the players also.

Posting all of the behind the scenes stuff is not REQUIRED, but I do wish to show people that it is not all just show up day of to run events, and hopefully shed some light on my asking for time to get stuff accomplished for an event that is still almost 11 WEEKS away.

I have gotten alot of things accomplished for players behind the scenes of the first 4 events and no one asked/demanded anything of me for those, so what makes this Event different? - NOTHING - so just trust me to make things great for the players as I have always done and just show up and have a great time.

Sincerely,
Keith

PS..There are other ideas which I'm working on to hopefully cover the fees as well as I'm trying to work a deal with the park also. I'll keep everyone posted as always.

Re: 10th Annual Lake Russell Open
Jerry Cook to you - Mar 20

The fees are as follows.
Park Pass fee $3.00/ day, unless they are staying on the park, then it is $3.00
for the entire stay.
Disc golf fee $2.00/ day per person.

We already know how some people responded, but I'm posting again with a new addition for those who may have missed it 3 months ago.

One entry($50), one campsite for Friday and Saturday nights($50), one Tsign for the Event($25), and 1 Event disc($25)$200 total for each of the 3 spots.

ADDED - 1 Series Disc, 1 Champion First Run GSSS Destroyer, and 1 First Run Star GSSS XCaliber and 1 $100 prize package that is given away at every basket raffle drawing at each event - TOTAL of $160 in value being added, which gives you $310 worth of value plus the entry to the event if you claim the last TPDtm for $200.

I will also give the added stuff to John Inman and James Marshall who have already claimed 2 of the 3 TPD'stm

What's bothering me is your tact and working well with others or lack there of. You talk about others attacking you but when I read this board, it's the other way around Keith. I've seen some good suggestions on this board and some bad ones. All of your responses are defensive and degrading. People are screaming at you to let them in so that they too can play in the one tournament they never miss and you have purposely shut them out. O.K., so they didn't register in time. But why set a limit of 72? You have plenty of holes to work with to accomodate. Then you say it's not finalized. But then you have made statements in the past that "I wish TD would stick to what they say". Well, you've already said that the tourney is full. Why set the limit at 72? I want to know. As a TD, you should have evaluated the tournament and conditions and taken into consideration online registration to know that 72 will go quick. All in all, you are an experienced TD and I expect better decisions from you. This format is not a good one. You need to seriously re-evaluate. Do what's best for the golfers. They are all telling you on this board, but you are not hearing them. For once LISTEN UP!!!

That's my problem.

P.S. - I did help with check-in, but that's cause Jay wouldn't let go of my leg and I had nowhere to run. I did tell Jay that I did really want to help because I was on VACATION. I did send people over to Luke but that was not part of the tournament. It was a little side project that my buddy Luke was doing and I was helping him sell them. Just because I did those things does not mean that I ran the action. Brett Porter always helps me behind the board but he would not claim to be the assistant TD.

Never said you were the assistant, just that YOU said "The funny thing is.... I have never ran nor assisted in any Lake Russell event. While Paul needs to lay off the beer as you say, what is your sad excuse?
Seems like helping and last part seems like an attack, but maybe I'm wrong.
You came out of left field after not posting for months saying what YOU are going be doing on Sunday.
I don't recall any conversations or PM's discussing any of this with you.
I have 18 holes that are good golf holes to work with and there are 4 decent woods holes, that are not connected to each other. Easy decision, use the 18 good holes. What's not finalized is what else that will happen, which has nothing to do with what anyone here is discussing.

The section in blue above is what really is hard to understand.

"I PURPOSEFULLY SHUT THEM OUT"? are you kidding me?

The limit of 72 was for EVERY event, not just Lake Russell, and if it's the one tournament they never miss (again dreamland stats as the players lists for each of the events I listed which never had more than 74 players only shows about 20 people being the same year after year) Most of those 20 are also already signed up. Surprise, Surprise.
If you wish to defend yourself, you need to argue with stats, not wishful dream made up stuff.
And also as I've always said 5 somes S>U>C>K!

How is sticking to 72 players NOT doing what I've said, even with all the whining?

What does evaluate the tournament and conditions and take into account online registration that 72 will go quick mean? It's nonsensical rambling.
It took a month to sell out the last 55 spots not a day or a week, so everyone had PLENTY OF TIME!

What does this statement say? All in all, you are an experienced TD and I expect better decisions from you. This format is not a good one. You need to seriously re-evaluate. Do what's best for the golfers.

What's best for the golfers? You tell me.
The format is the same - 2 rounds Sat, 1 round of 18 for all and final nine (27 holes for some 20 players) allowing the majority of the people to get home at a decent hour on Sunday after all the Event and Series Bonus payouts are settled. Only a percentage of golfers are staying over Sunday, and those that are can play all the Golf they wish to after the event is OVER, and in the following days as no one is stopping them.

For once LISTEN UP!!!

Are you the same Co-TD for the Atlanta Open that is named Imran Khan?
I don't believe anyone told you or Rand how to RUN the event, although some ideas to keep almost all of the Intermediate players from shooting scores into the upper 70's and 80's were not used allowing those players to really feel good about disc golf on Saturday. Having EVERYONE shooting from the same tees at Central regardless of skill level was not a good format or what was best for the golfers.

Methinks you need to "LISTEN UP" to your own advice and just let the Lake Russell event be as it ends up being.

If you don't like how it ends up being, then on Sept 8th you can go down to the Park office and reserve the dates for the '09 11th Lake Russell tournament.

Please re-evaluate what you have written and see if any of it has any REAL concerns, or if it is just knee-jerk reactions to me, because nothing you have said can be backed up with facts, just some pre-conceived dislike of me again out of nowhere, since we haven't spoken or conversed in over 2 months.

Sincerely,
Keith

Saturday: 2 rounds - 18 holes - 5somes.
Sunday: 1 round - 27 holes - mostly 3somes with a few 4somes.

No one is in a hurry on Saturday. We could play all day. Party at night.
Sunday time could be minimized by just offering one 27 hole round for everyone. Not just the elite top 4. Everyone gets out of there early except for the people staying Sunday night.

This way, you can accomodate 90 players. We still get out early. We all get to play the same amount of golf as everyone else.

I'm exhausted. I could write a book and it would do no good.

PICK 'EM!

P.S. - Sonic taters are pretty darn good.

I will NEVER run an event with 5 somes, so choices are easy.

Damn Keith! I don't know what the heck you are waiting for. So many people look to you for leadership and this is how you treat them. This is so typical of you. One poor decision after another and no consideration for others. Sonic's are everywhere - how hard would it be for you to swing into the drive-thru lane and order some Tater Tots?

Dang - I think everybody should lay off of Keith on this one.

This dude stepped up and volunteered to run the whole thing last year and I think we should feel a little bit more appreciative of that. He doesn't live there. He has to take time out of his life and manage a DG Tourney, his family, and still have to take care of 70+ babies who need to toughen up or volunteer to run the tourney themselves next year.

Don't like the format of the rounds? Tough - deal with it and go back to your cabin and enjoy a beer or your other favorite cocktail or diet soda.

Don't like Keith? Well, who said you have to but I think he deserves a little respect and a freakin' thank you for running the event. He is running it, let him do so or be prepared to take it over next year.

You guys realize that all you have to do is to get up, go play disc golf, and enjoy the lake. No TD duties, no worrying about getting paperwork done, no worries about you determining payouts, no final report to generate to the PDGA on time. Dang, you got it made because Keith is handling it for you. So just be on vacation, relax, take it easy. Dang.

Ironhead

Postby Laserman » Tue Jun 24, 2008 10:53 am

Are you referring to the element Iron -

a lustrous, silvery soft metal. It is one of the few ferromagnetic elements.
Iron and nickel are notable for being the final elements produced by stellar nucleosynthesis, and are therefore the heaviest elements which do not require a red giant or supernova for formation. Iron and nickel are therefore the most abundant metals in metallic meteorites and in the dense-metal cores of planets such as Earth. Iron and iron alloys are also the most common source of ferromagnetic materials in everyday use.

Or the dietary supplement Iron -
one of the most abundant metals on Earth, is essential to most life forms and to normal human physiology. Iron is an integral part of many proteins and enzymes that maintain good health. In humans, iron is an essential component of proteins involved in oxygen transport [1,2]. It is also essential for the regulation of cell growth and differentiation [3,4]. A deficiency of iron limits oxygen delivery to cells, resulting in fatigue, poor work performance, and decreased immunity [1,5-6]. On the other hand, excess amounts of iron can result in toxicity and even death [7].

I'm down for the fourth round with Imran! More golf, more better! It will be better non-PDGA anyway. By the way Keith, i remember Elberton having over 100 players at least one of the years. It may have been unsanctioned then. You chose not to answer one of my most important questions though..... What if i want to sell my entry to whoever i want to? It is mine, bought and payed for. What is the PDGA rule on that if any? If i buy a ticket to a concert or anything else, i have the right to give that ticket to anyone i choose. I have also bought extra Tourney spots in the past and held on till i decided who i would give it to.

Totally off this topic of the GSSS6 but is a very important subject since you have brought it up is for you to know that ALL intermediate players that I talked to and played with this weekend at GSSS4 would have rather played our division from the concrete tees. As it is we cannot compare our scores to the players in the division above us which would give us a better idea of when to move up.
Also, with everyone that I talked to in the AO in intermediate, I don't recall anyone of the 10 or so players in my groups complaining about the course other than the RAIN on Saturday.

You can speak for yourself, but please don't assume what the rest of the golfers want from what you want. Refuse all of the suggestions you want, but remember that these suggestions are coming from the very people that want to play in the tounament.

Thanks

True wisdom from a one post wonder! Why don't you give us the math that you are referring to? Just curious how you have come to this conclusion. Do you really have figures that you can give us to prove that Keith is ripping off players? I don't think Keith's payout has ever been an issue with either the pros or the ams. Please give us an example.

It would be hard to pin point exactly how much profit Keith makes off of each event, mainly because he works alone, so you are forced to take him at his word.

One big advantage that Keith has over the old school Tds in this area, is that he is a disc golf insider,
He can save big bucks by doing it all by himself no middle man to pay.
One of his jobs that he performs for his employer (LYNX) is hot stamping disc. So Keith probably spends
Around 3 to 4 dollars each for his custom stamped disc. Were the old school TD would pay some one like Greg Campbell to be there middle man and he would mark them up to $8 each, so with Keith doing it by him self he has already increased his profitability by 500%

No one is complaining that Keith’s tournaments are not a good value, just do not get caught up in thinking poor old Keith, how does he do it.

Most old Tds worked full time jobs and tried to juggle running a tournament around a busy schedule with out the benefit of being on the inside, and not having a connection on disc golf merchandise below wholesale.
Nor did they have the stock to supply am payout, they were forced to use some one like Greg Campbell an insider. Another person that has a below wholesale supplier. Believe this, the guy who does the am payout out makes big jack. All those $15 dollar disc that you take, only cost him $5each or less. another 300% profit.

The money tree is here, its real easy to do when you are on the inside, the lowest figure for profit that I have for Keith is around $1500 to $1800 per tournament.

All the events are close to being sold out, and one guy has done it by himself because that’s the way he likes it.
The system of 72 players. Very simplistic on the inside.
The old school td has not a prayer in competing against him.

Look around, what has he done as a leader? What has been his main focus thus far?
Take off your blinders, Keith will make over $500 in profit from the sale of sponsor disc alone for each event.

He does it for the love of money, any thing other than that is a lie.
Question everything.
It all about the money, right keith?

That's really irrelivant. As a TD you are a disc golf promoter. In this case, the type promotion is thru disc golf competiton. The argument here is not whether Keith makes money doing this or not. This thread is about Lake Russell. The current subject is regarding the format of the Lake Russell event. ...and the task at hand is to get golfers to chime in about what they would like to see at this event. I beleive the players opinion matters. After all, they/we are the ones forking over the money to play in the event. Whether Keith makes money or not, is not important to me. What's important, is for me to get my money's worth and to make sure that the guy running the event knows what that entails for me.

I don't buy 1 thing from anyone else as it costs MORE than thru Innova and Discraft.

No hotstamping discs, so your source is a dumbass.
I'm an Old School TD having done it for 13 years with only the last 2&1/2 in GA while working 50+ hours a week in Miami and Tucson and now here.

All those $15 dollar disc that you take, only cost him $5each or less. another 300% profit.
Your custom stamped prices are WAY off.
Innova and Discraft both post the costs on their website - try reading.

I DON'T supply am payout, WES and GREG do, for which I PAY them so they can buy the stock THEY sell.
Payouts come from the entry fees and sponsorships.
All the events are close to being sold out, and one guy has done it by himself because that’s the way he likes it.
All the events ARE sold out - you are a little behind.
I do it myself because I can with experience, preparation, and several people that help out at each event.

The money tree is here, its real easy to do when you are on the inside, the lowest figure for profit that I have for Keith is around $1500 to $1800 per tournament.
I GIVE AWAY almost $400 in discs at each event and sell probably 6-10 discs at each event - so you are again WAY off on your guesses.
Maybe SHOW up to an event and stick around for the awards ceremony and see how much is GIVEN away.

He does it for the love of money, any thing other than that is a lie
If I did it for money I would have run 1 event - because I never MAKE money at any of my events - I lose money or break even depending on sponsorships.

The old school td has not a prayer in competing against him.

Why do you think that is? - poor payouts and sketchy numbers for their events, my love of hype, or as someone said to me earlier today - "let's see, you've been here less than 3 years, you're running a series of 6 events that all sold out at least 2 weeks in advance (with 2 selling out 7 weeks and 1 selling out 5 months in advance), so you must be doing something people like."
Maybe that's it, I'm doing something people like!

Look around, what has he done as a leader? What has been his main focus thus far?

Helped others when asked, helped restart the dormant ADGO, giving players of tournaments a return on their entries - name another C-tier anywhere in the COUNTRY (let alone Georgia) where there has been 200% payout to ALL divisions, and players packages to ALL PLAYERS, plus no PDGA or course fees for anyone, and the PDGA only requires 85% payback to all divisions and NO players packages to anyone.
Yep doing nothing, glad you can see that.

Question everything.
Question all you want, as I have nothing to hide, here are the numbers from each event posted below which I post after EVERY event - and here's a question for you:
By the way I still have over 175 discs that I already PAID for from Discraft and Innova (spending over 5500 dollars before even running the first event) that I need to sell to keep the payouts at the same percentages as they have been - so do you want to buy a few discs?

I don't believe anyone told you or Rand how to RUN the event, although some ideas to keep almost all of the Intermediate players from shooting scores into the upper 70's and 80's were not used allowing those players to really feel good about disc golf on Saturday. Having EVERYONE shooting from the same tees at Central regardless of skill level was not a good format or what was best for the golfers.

Sincerely,
Keith

Thanks
Chris Quarles

I'm speaking for the 8-10 people that spoke to me after the Atlanta Open asking why they played the same layout.

For Lake Olmstead I'm speaking for the 3-4 people of 11 players in Am 2 that said they were GLAD to not have to play some of the concrete tees.
By the way you played 10 of the 18 tees and within 50 of the tee on 3 other holes, only 2 holes were drastically shorter 8 and 17 the 2 par 4 holes.
It's not about what I want, it's desiging to the SKILL LEVEL of that rated divison, and trying to get others to UNDERSTAND that reasoning.

Yes you will have better players and improving players that will feel differently, but they can ALWAYS play up into the higher divisions (which a couple of people did at Lake Olmstead with 1 finishing next to last and 1 middle of the pack).
You also have to realize that Tournament play is MUCH different than casual play and people like to play what they are comfortable with.

My goal as a designer is to make you THINK when you are on that pad and take you OUT of your comfort zone, because if I can do that then I have designed a good course for your skill level.

There is a reason that course designers have guidelines for the different ratings brackets as it keeps the courses suited to their skill levels.

The ratings will let you compare your scores to others in your division.

A quick look at the player ratings that were in the division show the disparity of having 110 point difference from lowest rated to highest rated that played. You can see that it also played out as you would expect it to looking at it on paper, with Daniel being an improving player on his home course shooting almost a 1000 rated round.
You shot over your rating both rounds, and Senador shot below his both rounds and you beat him by 3 strokes.
The ratings are a good indicator of skill level for the most part, and courses SHOULD be designed to challenge that skill level and still be not overly punitive.

I'll just speak for myself and others who ask questions through me.

Here's the stats from Lake Olmstead in Am2.

Place/name/PDGA Rating/1st round/round rating/ 2nd round/round rating
1 Daniel Swenson 920 53 947 47 988
2 Chris Quarles 893 55 924 54 903
3 Chris Senador 912 57 902 55 891
4 Josh Kles 857 58 891 56 879
4 Barry Arnson 885 56 913 58 855
6 Jimmy Padgett 873 59 880 56 879

87,105 and 99 players in 2001,2002, and 2003 as ONE DAY C-tier events.

Why was the change made in '04 to go 2 days, and was there an uproar back then?

I'm curious because the player numbers dropped dramatically EVERY YEAR it was a 2 day just show up and play event, until this year when it was capped at 72 with pre registration.

Maybe one of the "old school guys" can fill this newbie in on that info.

Also the 2 posts about Jay Phillips wifes boobs and this post I'm quoting now. Did you ask it on THIS thread?

This thread was dormant for over 2 months until Phonepasong came on ripping me for Chuck's event that had been taken care of with Chuck 2 months earlier (because he didn't read), and it's gone downhill ever since.

My thought on your question is that I look at it like an airline ticket - the user flies, or he pays to change his ticket, but unlike the airlines, I will refund your money in full if you wish to withdraw, all the way up to the Wednesday before the event, just as it is/has been for all the Events in the Series. If you HAD bought extra entries with others names on them, them same ruling would apply for refunds, because you would still have to let me know that so and so was replacing so and so. A tournament is not like a lottery, or concert ticket, as there is a NAME attached to a tournament entry, whereas the others are designating a SEAT, or NUMBERS that can belong to whoever holds them at the time of redemption.

I sincerely hope that you still choose to play the event.
Let me know what you wish to do.

I posted the question and you removed it to another thread, where it was ignored by you. It isn't a plane ticket either. Nice how you find the one example in America where you can't pass on something you pay for and own. Where our rights are being taken from us. You Tourney terrorist! I don't like your answer, i will check with the PDGA on that subject.

I'd like to think that Keith isn't making jack off of his tournaments. When I look at the payouts and all of the extras at his tournaments I know that there's no way that he is.

My question is, Why did Imran change the subject so fast? He knows that the Lake Russell battle is done, so why get back on that topic?

I'm sorry, but I looked in ALL of the split threads and you talk about Zombie's and other things, but NEVER ask a question except HUH? in one post. If you can find it I would appreciate it, because as you know, I do like to answer things and not let them linger.

I have more than 1 example by the way, I just listed airlines because it is the same for them - seat tied to a NAME, and they can also refund your money if they wish to instead of allowing you on the plane. You do not OWN a spot to exchange, you OWN a spot for YOURSELF at that event.
Big difference.

It is funny how now you are changing your attitude about the event from all your other posts which were picking fun at those whose DID NOT signup in time.

Thanks for the new nickname too, I wasn't really digging Ironface.

TOURNEY TERRORIST = Pnut approved.

But I also like Ironhead and reserve the right to use both interchangably. In the meantime - stay away from strong magnetic fields except for on that trip to the sun.

BOOO! NOOO!! More Zombie talk! Haha, good job selling it out so early. That is the earliest sell out of a tourney that i know of. You definately know how to run this series, i wish i could play more of the tourney's this year.

Keith
I posted the question and you removed it to another thread, where it was ignored by you. It isn't a plane ticket either. Nice how you find the one example in America where you can't pass on something you pay for and own. Where our rights are being taken from us. You Tourney terrorist! I don't like your answer, i will check with the PDGA on that subject.

Actually if you have a concert ticket at will call, under your name(like a tournament). You can call up the box office and change the name to whomever you like, as the owner of the ticket or spot you should be able to give it to whomever you want.

PS. I actually agree with Keith on something "5 somes SUCK"..............

What can I say Big Dave Johnson? You have me all figured out. You forgot to mention that I raise Capuchian monkeys to sell to the booming organ grinder business and that I cornered the market on brass because I discovered a long buried Civil War stash of it that was going to be used to make belt buckles and buttons when I was breaking ground for my newest financial venture; a worm farm. Oh, and I serve the best fried manatee north of Florida at my roadside cafe in Hiram.

Maybe i want to play, maybe i want to auction it off and make some money on my investment, maybe i want to give it to my friend Red and sponsor him, maybe do a poll to let everyone else decide if i should play? I have monthes to decide. You cashed my check already, it should be my choice. This is America, oh wait, it's PDGA! :?

I found it under "not fair to Chris" thread. I wasn't giving the people a hard time about not signing up. I was trying to be nice and courtious to my TD, until you started Jackassing me when i would politly ask a question. According to a lawyer friend of mine, that entry is mine to do what i like the minute you cashed my check. I should be able to sell it for a profit if i like, since it sold out so early it is a hot ticket!

OK - that thread was moved by SOMEONE ELSE to the ADGO members only thread, and was on Chris's thread which is why I split them off to begin with. If you'll notice, I didn't respond to anyone but Chad after the split and I didn't read that thread much after I split it except for somone PM'ing me about Chad's posts, so I missed what you had said. The last thing I saw from you was about ASKING about the thought of it, to which I quoted and responded, but never saw your other post until now reading through the entire 90+ posts. Sorry.
By the way, it wasn't on Chris's thread you were having fun with people, it was on the tournament thread when you were poking fun at Woody, and I was giving MISIAK a hard time about being a moron, and having spirited conversations with you, never Jackassing you (as you put it), because as I've told you many times here on the board as well as in person, I think you are one of the few people that always tells people straight about REEdan, and still plays on the board at times also, separating each post and poster for the actual post, instead of just carrying everything at the same tone no matter what.

Unlike Jason, who I agree with on the fact that 5somes S>U>C>K, I still will let you give your spot away, when your "lawyer friend" lets me fly on his airline ticket.
I've already how I'm handling the Event, and your choices are as follows:
1) I can refund your credit card charges (you did not pay by check), which takes away your spot when it is refunded.
2) Play in the event and have a good time, while hating me for making you play.

I knew it - that's why the price of Monkey's have soared and you can no longer hide behind the guise of the fact gas is more expensive which raises the costs of transportion. The cost of grinding my organ is just starting to cost too much for what I get in return.
The Hula Hoop became so ubiquitous that the former Soviet Union banned the toy as a symbol of the "emptiness of American culture."

I usually pay someone to grind my organ. Generally speaking, I'm happy with the return. The organ grinders on Fulton Industrial aren't very good.

I've played Lake Russell every year since I started playing PDGA tournaments (2002) and I remember Lane always bending over backwards to accommodate everyone that wanted to play (Those were the days!). It seems easy enough. But then I've never been TD at a PDGA event, so what do I know?

For those of you who have enjoyed my yearly astronomy seminars, I'll miss it as much as you. Those who've politely tolerated it, rest easy and sling back another one for me.

At least KJ will have a chance to cash that weekend.

YOU were the only one that kept YOU from playing it this year so far, I had no hand in it.
It's also REAL EASY to accomodate people when the event doesn't fill up.

Right now, you are 4th on the waitlist, and I'm willing to bet that before day of at least 1-2 spots will open up, and by day of you would probably have a chance to get in, BUT that means actually being there Saturday morning.

Also if you'll remember last year (when LANE was NOT the TD) the event did not fill, you PLAYED the event and I still cashed.

Your selective memory never ceases to amaze me.

Whining still won't add players to THE EVENT, no matter how much you do it in the next 2 months and 1 week, especially because YOU caused your own problem of not being signed up in time to prove some juvenile point about the "good ole days" which only exists in your, and others Fantasy (not fact based) Dream World.

See ya.

WOODY MOVES UP 2 SPOTS!!!

Posted: Sat Mar 22, 2008 1:36 am
in response to Woody:

I'll keep you on the waitlist if you want as with it being over 5 months away I'm pretty sure some people will forget, some will have injuries/family/job changes that may keep them from playing, and you'll still be able to get in and play.

Two people have had family issues come before disc golf, (are they NUTS?) so Will and Rob have until July 16th to accept AND PAY for the spots if they still wish to use them.
If either of them choose NOT to accept, I will continue down the list until getting 2 people to keep the Event at 72.

Keith,

What is the refund policy if any (or transfer of funds to be a hole sponsor instead) for this event?

Chris Rickey, PDGA #18207

Let me know, I am 99.9% positive that I will not be making this years event.

I guess the tactic is to wait until only a portion of my refund will be available? JK

Seriously though, is there a stated policy somewhere or can you please let me know what it is.

Sorry Chris, as you probably can tell I only was on for a few minutes yesterday and did not see your post.

The refund policy for the GSSS events are much more player friendly and have been posted since Oct of '07 on the Main GSSS thread here, and at discgolfseries.com.
To save you time looking, you have until the Wednesday at 5PM before EVERY Event to get a full refund if you call, PM, or email me if that's what you would like to do. If you would like to transfer it for sponsorship, that would be appreciated and I could give you sponsor discs also if you wish.

Please let me know what you would like to do.

Thanks,
Keith

PAUL CHILDS AND WOODY NOW HAVE THEIR CHANCE!

A husband and wife withdrew Saturday and opened up 2 spots.

Paul and Woody will have until my birthday to pay for their spot if they wish to play, or it will move down to the next on the list.
If either of you have chosen to NOT wish to play, please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks!

On deck - Moose and Jay Jacob.
These 2 need to keep checking back anyways as there have been hints from 2 others that they may not make it.

Keith

Thanks for the hard work this year. Don't let folks 100 miles away keep us from having more events in Atl next year. Needing to sign up for something that early because of limited event availability is pretty ridiculous. I'd rather be able to decide the week before.

You don't know how to ask simple questions.

I can't even tell what your qusestion is thanks to the Message Board Word Censor Program

Start times are ALWAYS posted on the Event thread and haven't changed.

Suffice it to say, If you mail the check in the next 7 days, you'll be in, and if you wait you won't - Is that simple enough for you?

Sorry to hear you can't make it Marty.

Please clarify what the part in red means, as I don't know anyone from anywhere keeping ATL Events from happening.
Every Event Asked for has been granted been sanctioned, and EVERY non-sanctioned event has also taken place as far as I know.

Needing to sign up for ANY event that doesn't have 2 courses is GOING TO without fail sell out early, IF it is a well run event as Toccoa, Rome, The Crucible and Savannah have proved as well as ATL area events.

The nature of the beast with WAAY more disc golfers than spots available as Wookie points out.

Everyone has been contacted, except Jay Jacobs, who called me months ago to be added to the list but I have NO contact info for him as he has not played any of the other Events.

Jason, if you know him, will you please ask him to call or email me to let me know his decision?

Paul Childs is NOT taking the spot and next in line is Mel Shuman.

I played the course on Saturday, it was looking pretty good. As long as they mow again by tournament time you should be good. I'm not sure who does the course maintenance out there, but some trees will need trimming before to long. The course slowly grows in more and more each time I go.

Keith, I know we are still a month away, but I was wondering if you could let us in on the course layout. Not every hole has multiple positions. It was set up relatively short on Saturday. Not that any of the positions really change the distance to much, except for 18. Any information will be appreciated. I plan on playing the course 2 more times before the tourney.

I won't get to see it until AFTER WORLDS , and then I'll know which positions things will be in.
18 will be long all 3 rounds for sure, and I may change up some of the others between Saturday and Sunday.
Maybe all 1 position for both rounds Sat and All other for Sunday, or Vice Versa, or some combo in between. I need to see where they are to see what to do. Also I will speak to Mr.Cook about "slight tree trimming" and fairway mowing before the event, and I wouldn't think it would be an issue since the golfers are paying to enter the park, play disc golf, and stay on site during the weekend.

Port-O-John is already set for delivery on FRIDAY around noon, so it will be available for anyone up there to use during practice rounds.

More info when I get it.

Stay tuned AFTER WORLDS for the final decisions on ALL EVENT INFO!
Pleasant surprises await.

I was contemplating making a pumpkin cheesecake for a Jim Warner CTP. I would like it to be on a hole everyone could reach #3 or #11. If you would be interested in going for the cheesecake let me know? I'm thinking a $2 buy in?

Even if you don't like cheesecake I'm sure Q would buy it off of you!!!!

I spoke to the Park Manager Jerry Cook this morning to go over things as we are now 5 weeks away!

Budget cutbacks have left them mowing less, BUT the course fairways will be mowed during that week, by Wednesday or on Wednesday and leaving the "rough" the same as always.(that gets cut once a year in NOVEMBER).

As much as he would like to help, being a STATE park, they CANNOT be flexible with the Disc golf fee of $2.00/ day per person, so those fees ($288) will have to be covered by sponsorships.
Anyone wanna buy a tsign?
Remember that if you are staying in the park (camping or in the cabins, there is only a 3 dollar for the entire weekend fee for the park.)
Entry fee if staying off site is 3 PER DAY (again not flexible)

He says the Park is looking forward to having the disc golfers visiting again, and wished everyone a good time while at the Lake.

More after Worlds!

I am not in the tournament yet.... two more people please drop out, but I say everybody pay their own $2 per day to the park and turn the $288 dollars from sponsorship to the payout!!
Just because I want to win more if I get in!!

If i hadn't won in Advanced Masters last year and am playing in the Advanced division this year because i won, i would change divisions so i wouldn't have to be BAGGED by this dude. I encourage ALL Advanced Masters to change divisions and leave him alone in it. Then he can beat himself by ten or more strokes. Just my opinion.

Damn Randy, did Funky Bobby pay you to say all of this? Usually he's the one that get's all tight faced about playing with Corder. He has it in his mind before the round starts that he's going to lose. I expect it from him. You should be used to playing with washed up drunks by now, considering who your life partner is. I have moved on - whoever is eligible to play is eligible to play. He is over 40, a PDGA certified AM and not playing very regularly. I thought his rationale for moving down was weak, but whatever floats your boat. I am over getting worked up about who is in the division. If I play well, I can hang with about anyone. And if I play shule, I get to play with the ladies...

I am sure the Pros appreciate your donation RH - except at Flying Eye where you will grace us AMs with your presence...and donation

I would have to agree that Mr. Corder has taken the spot as "Top Bagger" in GA. His last rating was a 959 and I do believe this would pretty much be considered his home course. But - he can be beaten. Toccoa proves that.

I think players of this caliber should play Advanced if they choose to be an AM. But that's just my 3 cents worth

I say we all should move up to Pro Master and duke it out. Mel Shuman isn't that good, heck his rating is only like 990 or something....Very beatable!!!!!! ....I really think I can take him.

Bob? Randy? Jason? Mr Corder? Did I miss anybody? You guys want to take me on for the Pro Master title?

I hear you Randy... I plan to make Lake Russell my last Adv Masters tournament. Honestly, I really would like to win the series championship for my division. I think it is a little silly that someone rated 926 is getting called a bagger in Adv Masters - whatever I am cool with it. Next year you will not have to deal with the Powerful Disc Golf Force known as Funky Bobby J any longer. I'll run around swearing and punching trees with brother Keith on the vacation card...

Being called a bagger is just a compliment on your game and a "guy" way of letting people know that they are ready for that next level. If you dominate Advanced Masters at least play Advanced for the better compitition. And if you win an Event as an Am don't repeat in that division the next year, that's weak. Repeat as a Pro not an AM. I think that is a good gauge of when to move up.

I would be inteseting to know which of my 3 1-stroke victories you see as "domination". I do not think I have repeated a division for a tourney I have won. The level of competion has been perfect as I am usually in the hunt winning some and losing some. I think that it is funny that I even got mentioned in the same breath is Jim. Were you guys this whiny when Dowling, Eldridge, & Pete were playing Advanced Masters??? (None of whom I have beaten in sanctioned tourny). What about Speedy?? Is it cool for him to play Adv Masters?? For that matter why aren't pro masters whining at Woody to play Open?? Randy, it just seems more like cliquish bs than it does any real legit beef and yes I am probably hypersensitive about it. I just look forward to playing with fellow DGers whose bodies are breaking down, can't throw 400', and can't play 5 days a week - just like me. So, next year, I will play with pillars of geriatric fitness and skill like Grease, Moose, Woody, and DD getting my clock cleaned on regular basis - so you guys can start whining about the next crop of 920-rated players coming thru...no big deal.

Funky Bobby,

Who cares what their ratings are???

I figured thats why you dropped out of Toccoa... Afraid to give me a rematch from last year?? LOL

Actually according to the TD, Pete Charlton just signed up for Advanced Masters also.

So, that means the two highest rated Am players in the state are both going to be playing Toccoa and both of them are playing Advanced Masters.

Amateur Men in GA - Player Ratings
1 thru 10 (of 219 current members)
Player Name PDGA# State Country Rating Rounds Division
Mike Newman 12820 GA USA 957 29 M Am
Peter Charlton 17894 GA USA 955 17 M Am
Aaron Dean 18082 GA USA 952 12 M Am
Brian Ling 25037 GA USA 950 27 M Am
Matthew Chipman 25940 GA USA 949 28 M Am
Cody Britain 32094 GA USA 948 10 M Am
Jason O'Herron 14883 GA USA 948 17 M Am
Craig Dye 33652 GA USA 947 34 M Am
Jon JJ Jimenez 11277 GA USA 947 12 M Am
Lee Jones 31978 GA USA 946 16 M Am

Gives me something to shoot for.

I wasn't talking about you specifically, FBJ. I know Jim is 10 times the Bagger you are. I was talking in general terms about how to avoid being a Bagger. Your game is pretty good and you are logging some wins though. I'm not saying to move up to Pro Master, Advanced would be a worthy move and you can play with your boytoy JayHEAD, until you start logging wins there. A one stroke win is still a win, and probably tougher then a runaway win. I also understand playing out a series in the same division. i have practically chased Pete Baggerton out of town from calling him out. So don't get your arteries all hard over it, just know i have my eye on you! I am the self proclaimed Bagger Police!

Newman here just wanting to add my 2 cents on the bagger controversy. I can't speak for Jim Corder of Pete Charlton, but will tell you what went in to my decision to play advanced masters in Toccoa. After having moderate success in advanced and playing well in my only Am Worlds, I moved to pro master at age 43 and played quite a few tourneys over the next few years. I was usually playing in a small field and battling for last cash with the same group for most tournament rounds. As more pros turned 40, I cut back my tournament playing schedule, rarely played or practiced outside of tourneys, and approached 50 years old, the tournaments ceased to be fun for me (and the group when I showed my azz) as you had to be nearly perfect to compete. The am masters tournament fields began to grow much larger numbers than the pro masters group about the time the PDGA allowed a one time move back to am from the pro divisions. I decided to move back and try to attend another am worlds as an advanced grandmaster this year, but I was unfortunately unable to attend due to a conflict. I turn 50 next month and would like to go next year, but it looks like the bagger tag may be a problem (although its just plastic - it is not about the money or plastic for me - just trying to have fun in a division that I at least have a chance to win).

The decision to play advanced masters in Toccoa versus regular advanced was because:

1. There seemed to be little difference in ratings between those signed up for the two divisions
2. I have never played the Toccoa course previously
3. I was once told that a player already signed up for advanced (who I have barely met and is rated almost as high as I am) dropped out a prior tournament because he thought he wouldn't have a chance against this so called "bagger". I did not want to cause a controversy there.
4. On of my very best disc golf buddies, Mike Dammes, is signed up for advanced masters and I wanted us to play together

This is my first post to a message board and apologies for the long windedness.

Damn, Retard Randy and Plumpcious have people signing on the message board to plead there case. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. I'm offended and move to have your PDGA memberships stripped (Play Disc Golf America that is).

Good luck in Advanced masters Mike. Now can we take all this Toccoa stuff to the Toccoa Tourney Thread? j/k

Newm,

According to the PDGA website you played 6 Adv Masters events this year. You won 5 of them.
You played Advanced in one of them and came in 3rd.

You have a ton of talent. Why not take Mr. Charlton's lead and play Advanced and Pro or Pro Masters to keep your skills sharp? Play Advance Masters in the Majors or A-Tiers, or when you have more high cailber players like your upcoming Toccoa trip. BTW - You will love that course and good luck there.

BTW - Everyone that hasn't, should get with Keith and buy some of the remaining Series Discs or a Tee Sign for the the Lake Russell event!!!! 8)

...now Jay's request to move this bagger stuff can be completed ....

To get back on to the Lake Russell tournament, i have been talking with Keith(i know this can be dangerous), and I want to run some fun field events!

Here's the details:

Mini Golf
Saturday Sept. 6th, following the second round.
-It will be a 9-12 hole course that will be played twice
-It will be located on or near the disc golf course
-$5 AM/PRO divisions, 100% cash payout, top 30% (signup before mini tee off)
-Rolling start until 7:15 pm, show up at the first hole with your group and start. This should give people time to go back to the camp grounds if they want (get drinks/food) and come back.
-If you have a mini basket that you can bring please let me know.(the less i have to haul up the better)
-Mini Golf Rules and Regulations can be found here: http://minidiscgolf.com/mission.html (The important ones are: No Runups, and no metal or wood mini's)

Long Drive Competition
Sunday Sept. 7th, Following the final 9
-Long drive will throw from near hole 1 down the hill
-Need volunteers to help with marking/grabbing discs
-$5 AM/PRO divisions, 100% cash payout, top 30% (signup after final 9)
-Drives will be marked where they "hit" the ground
-After tournament so no need to worry about ruining your arm!

What do you guys think? any questions? I'm just trying to add some more fun events to our disc golf camping weekend!!!

What's the idea about talking about Lake Russell on the Lake Russell thread, this thread is about Advanced Masters in Toccoa.
Next thing you know we'll be talking about "the Plan" viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1138

Hey.. I need to place to stay at the Lake russell tournament. Anyone got room at a site I can pitch a tent at? I will split the cost. Cabin..even better. I don't care, just need a place to lay my head down.

I just reserved a tent site this afternoon, I think there are a couple more available? How many people are staying at campsites? looking to get sites together? I think it is first come first serve, and I plan on getting there pretty early.
Randy, I would say you are more than welcome to stay at mine, but my brother is still undecided on whether he and the kids are going to come up for camping?
