Yes as always - and Sheryl is aware of it - so there should be nobody freaking out in the building when people practice this year.

Wish I could play in a tourney at my home course, but my exam schedule doesn't allow me back home this weekend so I'm "stuck" doing May Day Madness IV at The Herm. Hope everything goes well with the GSSS.

This Event is now the longest to sell out since the Series stated and it is still 1/3 away from filling. :(

It seems after 20 Events over 4 years that the GSSS is officially dead.

It has been a great run and the people that do show up to play the this Event and the other 3 Events #4,5,and 6 will enjoy all the amenities and great payouts that the Series has always given.

Hopefully when the A/O is over and players start thinking about their next Event - things will pick up.

Event #4 goes on sale stating April 30th and this Event may still have spots left open

It'll fill. But the two GA A Tiers this month probably have a lot to do with it, with people having more money than usual already out in entry fees.

But maybe McCury (which I do like) is not a "must play" course for a tourny anymore, like white oak, Lake Russell, crucible, etc. I'm not sure what other GA courses are "insta-fillers," besides Alexander(which still has NEVER had a two round pdga event) and Flyboy. Maybe we'll have this sweet track in Macon ready for a shot at next year. Or maybe you and Ritger's design up at North Ga Canopy will be showcased. That would be cool!

Same place it's been since Nov 1st, 2010.

All 6 GSSS Events each year have always had the player info listed under the Event dates from Nov 1st every year.

Hopefully this fills up, McCurry is a great park to play!

Any info on the layout for this year? Will it be the same as last? If so, does anyone have a link to that layout? I keep hearing stuff about a 1000' hole, but all i know is that is scares people in a building somewhere...

Thanks Barry - I don't see any message boards or E-mails until night time from pretty much DEC thru June/July when work calms down a little bit.

It should be the same layout unless when I visit next week there are significant storm or other things that have changed - since I only see the course right before the Event, I'll reserve posting a hole by hole description for 2011 until I see the park.

The first line in that link is SO depressing after seeing it empty this year - I'm guessing the 2 A-tiers in 3 weeks is hurting somewhat, but who knows?

Maybe everyone is just tired of the GSSS.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm certaainly looking forward to the event. I can only assume that the a-tier events are the reason for the lack of attendance. I've only been to one GSSS event thus far but it was fantastic, and if i can, i'll make it to all the rest.

I have been to #1 and #2 this year and signed up for #3, and already have it planned for the rest of them. This is a great series, and I can't wait to have played in all 6.

we need someone to go to the Disc Golf Hall of Fame Classic and promote this event :D

I haven't played McCurry in over a year so forgive my stupid question but has hole 2 changed any? To me, it doesn't make sense. When I played it last, there was no fairway, no window to hit, etc.

From both the par 4 tee and the par 3 tee it is quite playable. I believe for the GSSS tourney the par 3 tee will be used. There is an 8-10 ft. gap to hit and then about 200-250ft from the tee is the basket slightly to the right (as a RHBH thrower I like to throw a beat in Buzzz or RHFH a Gazelle sometimes). Hope this helps and if it isn't clear let me know and I'll try to explain again.

Sort of correct.

It will play from the slab of concrete to the left hand basket position in the GSSS Event.

So basically it'll be a straight shot through the gap at the basket? (don't know if I've ever actually seen the basket in the left position before)

Yes - I think Andrew keeps it in the right position mostly as it is better "line" from the regular tee.

I always recommend that my competitors throw an opposite hand back hand roller on the hole. I try to help anyway I can.

Re: GSSS #3 McCurry Park MAY 7th - Event Info

Postby keith johnson » Thu Apr 28, 2011 7:29 am

Less than 36 hours to sell the remaining 14 spots and keep this from being the smallest attended GSSS Event in the 21 Events to date.

Also got confirmation from Sheryl yesterday that they will be doing the food again for lunch with breakfast goodies also for all the players that benefits the Special Olympics as in years past.
Disc Golfers have been their biggest fundraisers in the last 3 years, don't let down the kiddies this year by not signing up to play.

Let's continue to show Sheryl and the crew down there that the money they spent on the disc golf course was worth it!

Even it it doesn't sell out, I hope those that are signed up will realize that the Event will still be a great time with great payouts and a good time spent with fellow Disc Golfers.

Top post updated with all info - HUGE THANKS to Wade Selph for the 4&1/2 hours he spent with me today at McCurry prepping the course for the SATURDAY May 7th GSSS Event even though he is NOT playing.

Everything is marked / flagged and strung for the Event EXCEPT for the stringline by Number 5 basket (it is painted) as I didn't want to put the flags and string down by the walking path and watch them disappear during the week.

BASKETS 2 (Will be about 50 feet left of current position) and 11(will be about 80 feet back from current position) will move to the spots in the hole descriptions this week or SAT morning at the latest (depends on if I get a response from Andrew Jenkins who has the key, but did not respond to a couple of phone calls today) and the basket for Hole A (which will be a temp Chainstar) will NOT be setup until SAT morning, but it is marked on the ground by an X inside of a square (hole plays as a peninsula with OB down left, right, and behind basket.) Please remember that not everyone may be aware of the Disc Golf Event - so if people come out of the building and ask you what is going on - PLEASE be nice and explain you are practicing for the position that is ONLY in play on SAT, and that Sheryl Lee is aware of this.

Thanks in advance for your help and kindness in this regard.

See everyone in 6 days!

I would be more than happy to collect bag tags at McCurry. Try to get them to me before the players meeting if possible.

Just a freindly reminder that even though the Event did not sell out - THE POLICY OF NO DAY OF SIGNUPS REMAINS THE SAME as always.

If I personally have not communicated with you by voice, PM or E-mail (keep in mind I will not see E-mails or PM's until the evening hours daily) by WED evening at 10 PM (when I've gotten home from Wills Doubles and will print the scorecards for the Event) - Please do NOT show up on SAT expecting to play - even if it appears there are spaces available - DO NOT go by what is listed at PDGA.com as it will not be updated with every change. The names posted THURSDAY night when I update it will be the final list - full or not. For the same reasons I don't have waitlists (so people don't waste their time driving to the course to find out it is full and then having to drive back home again) I don't do day of signups.

It's somewhat baflling to me that after being on sale for 7 weeks it didn't fill, and now within 72 hours of registration closing there has been 9 people contacting me or who have already paid me for SAT.

If you are wanting a spot - please let me know your name Division and PDGA # before WED at 10PM - and be prepared to bring CASH for the appropriate fees and arrive as close to 8:30 AM when check-in starts to get you setup.

As of now there are 6 spots still left.

Hi keith, sorry for the lateness here, I didn't count on having the weekend off. If there is a spot left I would love to occupy it saturday, if so the info is Dustin Perry-36224 open. Thanks.

Ever notice under Dperry's status it says "barnie"?

Welcome to the world of disc golf...barnie. Maybe you'll be good enough one day to compete against the real players. J/K

BTW how does it feel to hold the course record at Moseley? Maybe next time I'll turn up the winds to hurricane strength. Bet you won't break 39.

Good luck at McCurry. Keep practicin' and you'll be better than Allen Iverson.

You are in Dustin - Please bring $55 in CASH SAT morning and be there for check-in as close to 8:30 AM as possible to get you setup.

Thanks,
Keith

PS....EVENT IS CLOSED AND FULL AS OF NOW - Please do not call or PM about any openings or waitlist, etc.

GSSS #4 is on sale now here: http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore ... 1290453831 - there are 37 spots left as of now.
Going forward - when registration closes the Friday the week before each Event going forward - the people that are registered will be the only ones playing.

More people have called or signed up in the last 4 days than the previous last 4 weeks that the Event was on sale.
SOOOO - If you think you MIGHT possibly want to play in the GSSS - as I have said countless times before - it is easier to sign up and get a refund if you can't make it than to miss out on signing up and getting shut out of playing.

I think anyone who is paying late with cash should donate at least if not more, the equivalent of the online processing fee ($4.00) to the Special Olympics.

It seems kind of odd that the ratings are so different between the 2 rounds in rec devision since we played the same course twice. I am probibly wrong but if a person had a 63 in round #1 and a 63 in round #2 the rating should be the same. I guess thats some thing a person smarter than me has to figure out.

Thanks Keith for another great tournament! See you guys at Meeks!

You can also factor in that there was a 19 stroke differnce in scores in round 1 with the best score being a 57 and in the second round it was 13 strokes with the best score being a 61 which could also have something to do with it.

When the ratings are made official they will average all the scores together for the 2 rounds on the same layout and I would venture to say the official ratings will probably be somewhere in between but closer to round 1 ratings. We'll know in JULY when the ratings update that will include this Event will be posted.

Hello folks, I'm coming down from Anchorage, Alaska to Atlanta for some training and I found out about the tourney on the 30th. I'll be staying at the Courtyard Cumberland Center in Atlanta and I was hoping to get an address to this course to put in my GPS. I already signed up for this tourney yesterday on PDGA's website and I'm just trying to get more info. From what google maps tells me, I'm about an hour and 20 minutes away from Rome. I'll be in Atlanta from the 22nd to the 31st of July and I'd like to get a few rounds in before the tourney. Any help would be appreciated, thanks again.
