2011 GSSS info thread

Postby keith johnson » Mon Oct 18, 2010 12:30 pm

A Bonus GSSevenS Event will be taking place on OCT 15th and 16th, 2011

The 1st Annual Zip Line Open

Signup here starting AUGUST 15th at 12:01 AM http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore ... 1304013939

The complex will also be the host of the first GSSS Event in 2012 in MARCH!

Course directions and address here: http://northgeorgiacanopytours.com/directions.html - It is around an hour from ITP and around 1&1/2 from most any area near I-285. Less than 45 minutes from Athens or Blairsville as they are right off US 129 / US 23.
And the good part for me personally is it is the closest GSSS spot except for Wills Park - as it is only 1 hour and 20 minutes from my house.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It's that time of year again boys and girls to get out some information about the GSSS for 2011.

Stay tuned to http://www.supersixseries.com and the 2011 GSSS thread on this site for all the latest info.

There are a couple of changes in 2011 for the continued betterment of the Series.
The Parks Department changes in policies and pricing has removed the Crucible and Central from the schedule with Wills and a new PRIVATE course in Rome to replace those 2 parks. It is regrettable to not have one of the top courses in the state to use, but the circumstances beyond my control have made it necessary to look elsewhere.

There will be 6 PDGA Sanctioned C-Tier Events roughly 6 weeks apart.

The first Event will be at Wills Park on Feb 12th, 2011 – and the Series Finale Event will be back at Lake Russell Sept 10-11, 2011. (remember you can book Cottages or Campsites starting on Oct 10th, 2010)

The series continues to have Events in the Western, Southern, Northern and Eastern areas around Metro Atlanta, utilizing some of Georgia’s finest courses.
To allow even better player planning, the individual signup windows are 6-7 weeks in advance for each Event.

2011 Event Schedule:
Event #1 Wills Park – FEB 12th - Alpharetta, GA - Individual Event signup begins Jan 1st, 2011
Event #2 White Oak – MAR 26th - Dallas, GA - Individual Event signup begins Feb 5th, 2011
Event #3 McCurry Park - MAY 7th - Fayetteville, GA - Individual Event signup begins Mar 25th, 2011
Event #4 Meeks Park - JUN 18th - Blairsville, GA - Individual Event signup begins April 30th, 2010
Event #5 – Haywood Valley DGC (PRIVATE COURSE) - JUL 30th - Rome, GA - Individual Event signup begins June 25th, 2011
Event #6 Lake Russell - SEPT 10-11th - Elberton, GA - Individual Event signup begins Jul 23rd, 2011
BONUS Event - North Georgia Canopy Tours - OCT 15-16th - The 1st Annual Zip Line Open - Lula, Ga - Individual Event signup begins August 15th, 2011

There will be the same entry fees as they have been every year.

You can sign up by going to the GSSS website http://www.supersixseries.com
You can also find all the GSSS merchandise including Hats, Beanies, Collared Dry Fit shirts, T-shirts, Towels, etc. as well as discs with the GSSS or A-Tier Fundraiser logos on them for only $5 shipping or by picking up your merchandise wherever you see me playing disc golf (Tournaments and Doubles) on the GSSS website.

The SERIES will continue to improve in 2011!

Thanks to all who have been a part of the Series in 2008, 2009, and 2010 - and if you missed out in the first 3 years, YOU CAN FIND OUT WHAT THE GSSS IS ABOUT IN 2011!

Some of the changes that took place in the past to make your SERIES experience better continue in 2011.

The 50/50 basket raffle for each Event continues in 2011. Tickets can be purchased for $1 each, 4 for $3 or 8 for $5. There is NO LIMIT to the amount of tickets purchased. All monies collected at each Event will be split 50/50 with the winning number getting half of all the monies collected, and the other share going to the GSSS Charity for 2011 - The EDGE Program. In 2010 the winners’ share of the 50/50 kitty was worth over 75 bucks on average at each Event!

5 tickets will be drawn at each Event with prizes awarded to each of the 5 (last one drawn wins the 50/50 kitty) and each of those 5 tickets will kept for the drawing at the end of the Series for a Sportcatcher basket! (Don't let Wes win another one  )There will be a 1 in 30 chance to win the basket as in the past, plus a great chance to win some extra cash or goodies at each Event.
Seeing that all GSSS CTPS are always free and not buy-in, you can take your normal 3-10 dollars usually spent on CTP buy-ins and spend it on Raffle tickets.
The money raised for EDGE during the Series will be returning to Georgia and be committed to GROWING Disc Golf in Georgia Schools and Parks.
Read more on EDGE here: http://www.edgediscgolf.org

There will be no changes to the Series Points Bonus payouts, and you will still need to only play in 3 of the first 5 Events to qualify for the payouts. There were 20+ people that took advantage and qualified in 2010

More info later!

I'll answer this one-

Wills has not held a tournament (sanctioned or unsanctioned) for several years. That coupled with a fresh redesign begs for this course to be played competively.<--It has been several years since I have played Wills, but I'm looking forward to playing this tournament.

Nothing wrong with changing it up now and then-

But then again-Lake Russell??? What is Keith thinking?!?!

Daniel nailed it - Wills redesign, 18 new baskets and 18 concrete teepads means it becomes Event #1.

Read first post for why no Central - Flyboy is being used by enough people already - and will probably host another BIG Event in 2011, I like Moseley and may work with Daniel and the guys to work a Series Event in there one day, but it also has Events run on it now more often.

Okay, that's awesome that Wills is getting a facelift and concrete pads! Good job for all those envolved in making that happen. We should have a Wills/CP tournament highlighting the most changed courses in the area.

That's the last time I make it a 9AM start time - no one signs up if they aren't waiting up til midnight.

Being nice and trying to not have people staying up late on Halloween, and only Dale remembers to wake up at 9 to signup for all 6 Events - but he will be rewarded with some goodies for being first.

First 10 in will get a GSSS disc of thier choice at Event #1!

any info on the haywood valley dgc? Nothing on dgcoursereview.com and I haven't talked to anyone who has played it. I heard that the reason for that is that he doesn't keep the baskets on the course most of the time. Anyway, just wondering what it is like...

Very nice course with elevation changes, tree lined holes, and flat open shots about 1 hour and 15 minutes from my house.

Ben Mayben, Tim Ellis, Greg Flowers, Wes Campbell, and myself have worked and played on it and it will host a PDGA Sanctioned Event in March before the GSSS Event in August so everyone will have the opportunity to see it.

Obviously as it is private property and not open to the general public as well as not completely fine tuned - it has not been seen by many.

Probably after the beginning of 2011 it will host doubles monthly and be seen more.

why do people ask why keith is using wills? speaking on behalf of keith. people keith is a regular at wills. he is 1 of the main persons in redesigning the new layout. you could also say keiths home course is wills. im just guessing here bout i would assume that wills like lake russell wont be going any where for a long time to come, so in other words people get used to it. if you want to question a course i would have to question meeks, but thats only my opinion and what do i know. redan in replace of meeks! come on keith we all want to see that happen even the squirels

Throw Hurricane Shoals in there and the Baptist church near Rose Lane and you got a deal sir!

We could replace the S for super for a four letter S word that would fit pretty well.

If it is not posted by me or in the top post of this thread about the GSSS'11 it is just conjecture, or people screwing around.

There are 5 Silver Sponsorships still available and 5 Events left to have your or your businesses info out there for everyone to see.

I will offer a rate of $75 for the remaining 5 Silver Sponsorships - which boils down to $15 per Event - and you get your name or business name in each of the programs as well as on the 11X17 Laminated tee sign to be displayed at each Event.

If you could help out it would be deeply appreciated!

Welcome back to Maui Jim and Keen as Silver sponsors and for the merchandise they will sending to use for the EDGE/ North Georgia Canopy Tours CTP contest.

The stuff may or may not arrive in time for GSSS #2 - Jay "YETI" Reading is supposed to get it early next week from them and then send it out to me - so we'll see what happens.

The shot for White Oak will be from near the pavilion to #18 basket - I'll mark it when I go on Sunday.

It's official - I guess now unless it's Lake Russell the GSSS is dead - only 9 entries in 17 hours  - usually there is nine entries in the first 10 minutes.

It was a good run - 20 out of 20 Sellouts in less than 2 weeks after going on sale with several selling out in less than 24 hours - until Event #3 this year.

Some stats from the glory days of the GSSS:

Only 1 &1/2 rounds of rain out of 44(3 rounds for LR and A-tier last year for those looking at math skills  )

Over 45 thousand in cash and over 50 thousand in merchandise paid out / given away / or in players packs in those 20 Events.

Several hundred hours spent in course preparation / marking / cleanup for the 20 Events which helped those courses for daily use also - as some courses incorporated GSSS pad/pin locations in their regular layouts, or got concrete or other improvements from parks because of GSSS Events run there.

Over 5 thousand dollars raised for charities in several cities.

PDGA Tournament run for the first time ever or first time in years at several courses in the area.

But the most important stat of all is getting to meet/see 71 (or in the inagural Event, thanks to John Inman 72) of my freinds, soon to be friends, Local Parks Managers and staffs, my fellow competitors, or people involved with the sport or wanting to learn about the sport - which is the main reason I run Events.

I can't play Disc Golf well, so I run Events well to make up for it.

Hopefully when the economy picks up fully, and everyone doesn't have to decide which 5/10 of the 45 PDGA Events in the state they can afford to play in - the GSSS will return to the top of most golfers lists of CAN'T MISS Events they want to play in.

A Bonus GSSevenS Event will be taking place on OCT 15th and 16th, 2011

The 1st Annual Zip Line Open - Individual Event signup begins August 15th, 2011

Signup here: http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore ...

Postby Here4Beer » Tue Jun 07, 2011 10:13 am

Keef!

Can you elaborate on the format for this one? Four rounds in 2 days? Points do/don't count for GSSS series total?

Not 4 rounds - The points bonus will be paid out at Event #6 as usual to people that qualified by playing any 3 of the first 5 Events - this is a bonus Event not scheduled as part of the Series as it wasn't event proposed to design until 3 months AFTER the 2011 GSSS schedule was set.

As it gets closer I'll elaborate more as I'm still kicking things around and right now I'm more focused on Event #4 in 10 days.

They have already donated several hundred dollars in certificate that are being / have been given out at each of the 6 Events.

I'm not gonna bite the hand that lets me work on that beautiful property, but as time gets closer, I will be posting any pricing on special deals that get worked out with camping/ tours/ passes for Disc Golf, etc.

Being a "newbie" I am curious as to where the points are derived from and how they work? Just trying to check my odds of increasing them from 16 to 69 (I take it the more points the better?)
