You mean you aren't gonna step up to Pro after last years finish. You only came in second to another "need to be Pro" and in front of two "already Pros".?! It's all good, I look forward to the competition, if I can make it that weekend.

I am working on finalizing the hole sponsorship / sponsorship options and should have them up this week. In short, hole sponsorship will be available for $50 and will be valued around $50 in merch.

As the Pros and Ams will be playing the same courses on the same weekend 54 hole sponsorships will be up for grabs. More to come this week.

Hole Sponsorships are now availabel. Please sponsor a hole and help keep the Atlanta Open as prestigious and solid as it has been in recent years. Last year the Atlanta Open was in the top 15 of the PDGA's "Richest Tournaments of the year. It should have been in the top 10 but a mistake was made by the PDGA. Never the less, each of you are the reason the Atlanta Open has continued to attract players from around the country. Thanks again for your continued support.

Here is what your $50 will get you in return. 1) A DriFit embroidered (Atlanta Open) polo golf shirt 2) Custom stamped tournament disc 3) Name and or custom art work discplayed on tee sign on desired hole(s). Retail value $50
Please email me or pm me here to secure your hole sponsorship. randeberhard@gmail.com

Get your entry fee in to lock your place in the 2010 Atlanta Open. Please sponsor a hole as well if you can or are thinking about it. YOur $50 for a hole sponsor will get you $50 worth of disc golf merch.

This is going to be a great Super Tour event. Lets hope we dont have rain for an Atlanta Open this time. Start your disc golf season off with a home town A tier.

The Atlanta Open is an Atier event for both Ams and Pros.

It looks like many of the touring pros are playing in Kansas, so that leaves a lot of money up for grabs for some local pros. Sign it up and sponsor a hole.

HELP ME OUT! I am trying to put together an above average payout for an Atier. Some of you guys that win money weekly need to step up and sponsor a hole, I think Keith would agree with me here. I need all the help I can get to pull this AO off. If you can't sponsor a hole get out to a course and do some work. Your money for a hole sponsorship will get you $50 worth of disc golf stuff. Your hard work on a course will contribute to the betterment of the tournament and course of your choice.

I am not singling anyone one person out. If you play in most or many of the local events yet never sponsor one, ask yourself, ' what am I doing to make this hometown event better'? It seems like some people just like to sit back and critically review what tournament directors do. Pry your fingers off your keyboard and help somebody out. Running any tournament is no easy task, especially these days. Running a huge event is like working a part time job for five months, just ask Keith, G-reg, Ritger, Gerrit, Daniel (HOTLANTA TD OF PAST), Nisewonder, etc. We need help! Again, if you can't throw in $ get to the course(s) and figure out how you can better things (obviously without altering the layout  )

Some of you work hard with the ADGO, local courses, TDing events, etc. This "Call to Mobilize" doesn't pertain to you. If this hit a cord of conviction with you do something. I am not saying that you should just help out the AO help Keith pull of his huge venture with the GSSS. Do anything that might better disc golf in your city. It is funny how some people, especially some touring pros, think that all disc golf events should be as quality as the USDGC. TDs have jobs, lives, families, bills to name a few things. Running an event for the PDGA and its players is not just an effort to serve the money winners, but is also an effort to grow the sport through exposing the great game of disc golf. Are we players of integrity? Or are we sitting back with a critical review for others to manage?

I can help again with the AO just like I did last year. I still think hole 11 Red to 12A basket would be awesome. There is a lot of work to do at CP with the holes in the woods changing a bit around the Rec Center and Nathan calling for newER tee signs, with distances beeing the reason I presume and idiots bending the signs for some unknown reason. The pads definitley need some work. Manicuring some holes a bit is alwas needed expecially with the borderline rain forrest precipitation lately. It's only two months away and that is only the work needed at CP!!

I'm going down to ERP today to play this afternnon. Might ace 14 again!! Maybe a longer hole to hush critics, haha, just kidding sharks!!

AO 2010 Stamp. Rand has lots of discs to select from. Want one? Contact Rand for sponsorship opportunities. All discs are hot-stamped, but the full color art may go on a shirt or something TBD. Better weather for AO 2010 is in the forecast. Looks like it will be party cloudy with steady 12mph winds gusting to 20mph.

Working on getting that posted.

Climo is coming to three-peat, so get on that practice green and try to keep the AO title in the State of Georgia.

Past Atlanta Open Champions:

2005 TIm Ellis $620 Georgia
2006 Tim Ellis $1000 Georgia
2007 JD Ramirez $1145 Texas
2008 Ken Climo $1200 Florida
2009 Ken Climo $1700 Florida
2010 ???

Chim Chim is the only Georgian to win the Atlanta Open.

Lets take a look at the Masters

2005 Mel Shuman $246 SC/ GA
2006 Mel Shuman $300 SC / GA
2007 Dean Tannock $565 Alabama
2008 Brad Hammock $570 Georgia
2009 Tim Keith $650 Alabama

I still need 13 hole sponsors. Please help me make this payout as good as possible. Thanks and get ready for the AO. We need some GA champions.

WOW we already have 11 states represented in the field. Where are the GA Open players @? The only one signed up lives in NC.

I am pleased to announce that all 54 hole sponsorships have been sold. Thanks so much to all of you who were able and willing to support the tournament. I still have plenty of CFR discs and other discs, tshirts, etc. for sale, so if you can help support the Atlanta Open by purchasing something.

The clock is ticking, sign it up if you want to play. Please register sooner than later and book a hotel at the tournament hotel.

Thanks again !

I've spoken with Rand and he has agreed to add a Recreational division. The Recreational division was originally omitted but, given the conditions of this event: (ams playing in a separate pool from the pros, allowing Junior divisions to compete and having an alternate course layout to accomodate lower skill levels), there is no reason why the AM side of this event should NOT have recreational division players.

A Recreational division has been added to the online registration at an Entry Fee of $40.00.

There are only around 40 Am spots left so do not delay in securing your spot!

Rec Division is offered to players rated 900 and below. If your rating is above that you have to play Int or a higher division. Past wins or performance don't determine eligibility by the PDGA's standards (BAGGERS :x ), so that is what we have to work from.

Sign it up. We are 5 weeks out and the Ams are filling up fast. Four of the top five Pros in the world are signed up or will be soon.

I just based the entry fees off os some of the other Atiers around the country. the AO has sold out every year, so I figured it would still sell out. AM divisions will fill for sure, but at this rate I don't think Pro will. Did anyone else notice how small of a field there is at the FLA NT?

Pros are a rare sighting in more than just GA I guess. Kade, not playing in a local Atier at your local course because of entry fee would be a big missed opportunity. Player's packs and payouts will be nice.

AO Pros on the list:

Cam Todd
Ken Climo
Dave Feldberg
Avery Jenkins
Nate Doss
Jason Light

These guys have won some money on tour. Sign up Kade and help keep these guys on tour or make a name for yourself.

We need some girls to play in the FPO division. Val and Sarah are coming to play but at the moment we don't have enough for a division. PLEASE help me find at least one more woman that would be willing to compete. Tuition assistance may apply.

The field is shaping up. If you havent registered now is the time. Local MPO (Pros) get on the ball and get in the game.

By the way, if there's an interested woman you know of who's holding back from entering, find out why and let Rand know. Whatever the obstacle -- financial, child care, transportation, lodging, logistics, whatever -- let's figure it out and see if there's some way it can be removed.

Black at ERP - and Rand has the layout being used at Central - If it doesn't get posted on the A/O website later today - I'll post it in the Event thread later tonight from home.

Chris Pierce is deciding the format for the AM side. He told me the same layout as the Pros for the Adv Field at Central. Maybe black and blue pads at ERP. Intermediate might not play the blacks at ERP. Recs definitely won't play blacks. That is all I know.

I was responding to Aaron - who is playing ADV acccording to the PDGA listings - obviously it's not the same for every division that's why I quoted Aaron - to AVOID confusion. I guess that failed.

Player's party will go from 7 - 11pm Sat night.

We will have a basket set up outside of the banquet room for putting. Lots of other good things are in place as well. Like G-reg said, most people show up around 8pm.

12 mostly 950+ rated players and a 1000+ rated World Champ played the A/O layout today and enjoyed the new tweaks to the design.
The scoring spreads are tons better and moving 6 up brought the creek into play (2 out of our 4some got wet going for the pin)
The new slope hole playing from 11 Blue gives a great chance at 2 now and does't impede course flow, 12C in the new postion and the new 12D work out nicely and were well received.
Moving 8 up, & 13 to red tee also brought some legit birdie chances into play.

Thanks for the feedback,
Keith

hard to believe with all the options out there that the new 12d is being used. super duper awful sauce

there are a lot of bad holes out there, but that new one is pretty close to the top of the list. why dont we put 14s basket into the creek position? its an atier, we want them to see all the sweet stuff :(

It's cleaned up and looks a lot nicer than when you last saw it after the workday yesterday and with the gap widened - and playing from RED it is a pretty easy 3 unless you kick WAAY left - and even then with your thumber you can get it up to the basket with no issues anyways.

Still a few stumpy things to remove but it definately plays much easier and looks better than 2 weeks ago.

Matlack parked it up on his drive today using the right side gap, and I made it past the short pin to the opening using the right side gap, so the widening of the gap definately works if you can throw straight.

Honey Baked Ham will be on sight with $5 lunches both days at both courses. Lunch will include a ham or turkey sandwich, chips, and cookie for $5. Good deal for good food. They provided the same offer at the NT last year. Plan on supporting them both days if you are playing.

Less than two weeks out. If you havent signed up get in right now. A smaller field will mean more money at the top and a faster pace of play. I guess not selling out for the first time in four or five years is not such a bad thing.

Looking forward to it brother! Just curious, what all or who all will be at the Flymart on Saturday night? I've never been to a tournament where there has been one.

Most of the big-time pros come and sell their wares, sign stuff, & sing a long to sad songs on the jukebox. Most of the local vendors set up and bring special stuff out of their inventories. It is actually pretty fun thumbing thru the plastic.

I appreciate it man. That does sound cool, I love me some sad songs from a jukebox. Gonna be hearing a bunch of them after ERP...

There will be a $10 a head doubles at 4pm on Friday at East Roswell Park. Random draw one division playing the black tees.

Following the doubles action from 7-9pm Friday, Ken Climo will be hosting at autograph session and clinic at the PGA Superstore Roswell. It is located off of Holcomb Bridge Rd in between GA 400 and ERP. Come out and support one of our tournament sponsors and learn from the Champ himself. He will be doing a putting clinic inside the store and answering any questions you may have for him (regarding disc golf, sorry Clunk).

Speaking of Clunk, where is he?

Doubles at 4pm on Friday

The PGA Super Store Roswell is now carrying an entire line of disc golf products from Innova and Vibram. You will find a great variety of discs and supllies for players of all levels.

The 6th Atlanta Open Presented by ReMax is less than a week away. Sign up asap if you are a pro player. Am is full.

Your performance in the AM side of things last year inspired us all!

Looks like it will be a strong field with quality performance. This has to be a good thing for the future of Atlanta disc golf.

Now get back to bugging Keith about getting on the wait list for some future tourney.

Doubt it. 90% of Wood's Insipid list will probably still be playing Am in the ATL Open 5 yrs from now. My faith rests in the kids! I sure do hope Mason, Tom, Matt, and whoever else have people to compete against when they go pro. If everyone waited until they thought they could win Pro events before they moved up, then everyone would play AM, and that would make the AM division become the Pro division.....I think. And then I guess you would all play INT.

Point is, QUIT BAGGING!!!!

That whole group had to watch his 100+ shots. This kills the flow of the tournament. (It took my group 63 minutes to get from hole 4's basket to hole 5s basket.) Anyway, the WC shoots 11, 12, and 13 shots better the next 3 rounds when playing with competitors.

Sure, it's nice to give something to people who do lots for the sport. I am all for that, but this tournament should be for serious competitors. Our state is allotted one spot for someone to Represent US in the toughest disc golf competition in the world. Giving it to someone who cannot compete on this level is AWFUL SAUCE. There's an US AM Championship too.

I think all the AMs in Atlanta are just worried about slowing you down and throwing off your rhythm. You should be thanking them for staying away until they are good enough to hang - :D Love you man - been waiting to use that...

Signs for AO at ERP

I have 37 signs to put out at ERP Friday - my back went out and I am very iffy for playing. Anyone out there help a brother out and help put some signs out Friday afternoon? I should be there b/w 1:30 and 2:00. I have everything - just can't bend...

Also will have many PPIC sponsorship discs for sale. Got some sweet stuff this year and,as always, the stamp is uber-sexy.

The good news is that there was a plan for a car show and music festival at Londzell's during the day on Saturday, but the promoter withdrew their special event permit application with the city of Roswell and stated that they wouldn't be holding the event. It was originally scheduled from noon to 8 pm, so things might have been a little hectic on Holcomb Bridge even during the day. There's also a rumor of a major party at a private home somewhere in Rowell, but no idea where or when.

Central Park is ready - Only thing left is the basket for the temp hole (#10) in the program which will be set up and staked tomorrow by Mike Hallworth - I gave him the basket this evening.

All the OB has been strung and flagged.

All the number plates are on the baskets(Thanks NATHAN for making them!)

All the tee signs are in place (Thanks BOB for making them!)

All the arrows are in place to guide players to the next tees.

All the gumballs are off the #2 fairway.

Everything is ready there at Central for the players arrival.

yes, where indeed we were wondering. I assume by the kiosk at original hole 1 since not many holes by the rec center are being used this year due to them not being there anymore.

Only 1 less hole by Rec center than years past (slope hole). Kiosk area could work but it would be crowded since the area around the tree is hole 1's basket for the Event.
Friday night is the deal with Climo at the PGA Superstore by ERP after dubs at ERP - See post by Rand several posts upthread with details.

I'm sure Rand will post later where HQ is so no one has to guess and end up in the wrong place.

Dependig on when Chris and Carrie from Solstice get in town we may start doing check in for the Ams at the PGA Super store tonight from 7-9pm. Ken Climo will be on sight doing a demo and autographs, see details above. I will be checking Pros in both at ERP doubles 4pm and then at the PGA SUper Store.

OFFICIAL CHECK IN & TOURNAMENT CENTRAL: ERP = pavilion by the pond
Central = Recreation Center (left side of the building outside under the awning).

Again, don't forget that lunch will be onsight for $5 both days for both pools. Honey Baked Ham (sandwhich, chips, cookie) for $5. This is a great price for great food. Please support them as they are supporting us. Not to mention the food is better than you will find for the money any where in the area.

Plan on stoping by the flymart Sat night before you guys head over to Freaknic. We are going to silent auction some great things, have vendors on sight, FREE SWEETWATER BEER (local micro brew), putting outside in the courtyard (NICE). If you havent booked a room at the tournament hotel please do. Free breakfast for each person that stays at the hotel.

Doubles starts at 4pm today at East Roswell Park ($10 random draw).

7-9 Ken Climo PGA Super store Roswell.

I am going to be at both Central and ERP today and shouldnt be hard to find provided you have any questions and or thoughts. Get ready for a great tournament weekend. BIG thanks to all of you guys that supported me in my efforts to make this event possible. To name a few:

Course Director Central Park = Keith Johnson (tireless servant of the game)
Central Park spokesman and course guru = Dave Kenney
Central local and servant plus made all of the sponsorship tee signs again this year = Bob Johnson
East Roswell Park course directors = Roswell Disc Golf Club (Jason Bradshaw, Imran Khan, Scott Walker, and the cast)
Assistant fundraising director and tour player travel agent, cook, host, cabbie, etc = Moose
Artist (Dragon Art) = Nathan Skinner
Artist (Sponsor Disc), among many other graphic needs, and trophy designer = Andrew Lofstrand
Webmaster and designer = Mr.Pbody Barry Arnson
Tshirts = Jordy Boyd
Title Sponsor = ReMax
HUGE thanks to all of the additional sponsors.
Thanks to each of you that signed up to play this weekend.

Thanks to the Alpharetta Visitors Bureau, Forsyth County Parks Dept, Roswell Parks Dept, Hilton Garden Inn Alpharetta.

Thanks and love most of all goes to my wife Jenny and daiughters Eliza and Olivia for supporting and allowing me to direct the Atlanta Open for the six time. Without them this event never would have happened.

A request from one of your disc golf bretheren - well it turns out that my karate dojo is having their international training this weekend at Central Park Rec center. There will be a lot of kids around and a bunch of grumpy old karate masters - so please watch your language around the rec center and conduct yourself with a modicum of comportment (as you should at any event). There will people there from Okinawa and all over the country for this bi-annual event (that I am already getting a rash of grief for missing).

If you want to poke your head in and see what is going on, that is cool too. If you want to improve your disc golf game, traditional Okinawan karate is a great activity to train your body as it is all about using your center core for strength and speed.

Thanks for your consideration in advance-

There will also be Football and Cheerleading signups taking place both SAT and SUN at the Rec center, so the Rec center area will be crowded - please keep that in mind for your arrival with giving yourselves enough time to park and walk to check-in.

Yes, the event was awesome and the crowd was pretty incredible!! It was really cool seeing golf people stop and listen to Climo and Feldberg as well. Also the fact that he had groupies was priceless!!

Great job to the PGA store, while they may have given away $1000 or so bucks tonight they surely made it back with all the discs and stuff purchased.

Great turnout for the clinic/autograph session at the PGA Tour Superstore tonight. Well over 80 people signed in and got a free $10 discount card, and probably another two dozen on top of that stopped by and watched some or all of the clinic. Joe Shepard of PGA Tour Superstores was blown away by the response -- he told me that they often get only a couple of dozen people showing up for PGA golfers doing clinics, so this far exceeded his expectations. Kudos to Rand and Joe for pulling this together on very short lead time, and of course to Ken Climo and David Feldberg for being so gracious and informative.

It was a nice day to go out and watch the pros throw. I got to watch the lead card of Arthur, Climo, Doss, and Feldberg play the front nine. There was some great golf out there today!! Doss hit a huge putt for a 2 on four off of the mulch mound on to of the hill to the left of the basket. That was fun to watch! I know Doss had a one stroke lead going into the round and I think a 3 stroke lead when I left. I could be off but that seems right to me. Doss shot a great 48 the first round out there.

Speaking of Ultimate, the Atlanta area organization is starting summer league sign-ups on May 1. Come play-- it's still throwing discs, you'll get 4 games a week, 2 free beer parties, 2 full weekend tournaments and plenty of good times. And as a bonus you'll have women on your team too (no offense guys, but the all male tournaments just aren't as fun). Hope to see some of you there.

Thanks again to the TDs for making it a good weekend, and thanks to all the people I got to play with this weekend.

Chris O'Cleary told me to tap into the women who play ultimate to get our disc golf fields a little...ok, a lot more attractive.

Sounds like a cross-sport trade is in order?

We could try and work something out I'm sure. There is a large base of Atlanta players (1000+ in leagues consistently) but a lot of them don't know anything about disc golf. I know I played for several years before I knew disc golf existed. You just need to pique their interest and I think they would be in.

I've posted what seemed worth posting of the shots from Saturday (just under 400 total). They're at http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottwalke ... 763820575/

I've only managed to caption/tag about a third of them so far, and of course there's lots of people in them I don't know, so if you're browsing through and see someone you know who's not tagged or named in the caption, take a minute and put the info in a comment.

Upshots:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPuRgG3p ... re=channel

Sarah's mega forehand on 16 got her a long putt away in 2. She hit the band and got a 4 but made the full distance from the blacks in 2.

Chris O'Cleary hit a mega putt on 4 and got a nice 3.

Rachel actually hit the bogey band on her upshot on 3.

Some really nice shooting.

Val driving on 3:

Hey do you guys know how I can get in touch with Chris (I think that's his name) that was running the merch booth for the ams on Sunday? Sent a PM a while back but no response. Anyone have a number or email address they could PM me?

Thanks

Ok, I'm not sure what else to do. Does anyone know Chris or see him from time to time? Mark and I ordered some equipment from him at the Atlanta Open back in April and have still yet to receive it. I've tried PM's and calling him... no dice. It would be nice to get the new bag and shoulder straps before the summer is over.
