This is a great time to renew your membership ($10). If you're not a member yet, you can join the ADGO for $15.

that's a great Idea!!!

Can any of the vendors get some superclass discs for the action??? That would be nice, and I'm sure most of the discs would sell. I need 2 Zephyrs please!

Format for ADGO Event @ Redan July 19th

Postby jritger » Wed May 27, 2009 11:19 pm

Redan on July 19th looks like the clear winner for the ADGO summer event...so what should the format be? these are the options that came to mind - if you have others suggest them and i'll edit the poll.

superclass = new form of disc golf using ultimate-like superclass discs....you can't throw them as far, so playing field more even & shorter courses are much harder. zeypher is the farthest throwing superclass disc.

I voted for one round of doubles and one of superclass since the ADGO event is all about having fun. I normally don't like doubles, but during this event, it seems to fit the best.

Is the ADGO going to provide "superclass" discs for everyone, OR is this a ploy to sell a disc to everyone that they will only use ONCE????

I was not too keen on the superclass idea for this event and this is the reason why.

Not sure why the options were offered but if we do regular singles or doubles first, then for the second round people who have the discs for superclass can play it while the others can play a second round of disc golf, hangout, or leave...........

Slam.....NOT!

that sounds like a good format. assuming the poll finishes as it stands, we could run the doubles round first, then the superclass 2nd....and whoever didn't want to play superclass could play reg doubles/singles/drink/leave/chill. the optimal redan setup for superclass would be to put the shorter holes in the shorter positions so they are reachable, and the longer holes in the longer positions so they are par 4's....not sure if it makes more sense to move before or after the 1st round.

Is the ADGO going to provide "superclass" discs for everyone, OR is this a ploy to sell a disc to everyone that they will only use ONCE????

ADGO doesn't have any superclass discs, although that would have been a good idea in hindsight. hopefully the local vendors have some....you only need one and not like they cost much...DX zeyphers online are $7-$8

right now in 25 votes there are 22 for some form of superclass, 3 for no superclass...so looks like the vast majority want to try it out.

You could always relax the rule and allow freestyle or ultimate discs. They are basically the same thing. Problem solved.

Some of those same discs are APPROVED for Superclass, you need to check the list. Like the Discraft Ultra-Star, the most popular Ultimate disc, and I believe the official disc for most Ultimate leagues.

http://www.pdga.com/files/documents/PDG ... _41609.pdf

Not really as much of a burden as people might think.
I have two of these that are extra if someone wants to throw them, and I am sure that those ultimate stars such as Woody and others have extras as well. People dont have to spend an extra $8 to play and have a good time.... unless people just wanna bitch, because it's easier than understanding.

You could also run an elimination style round like they do up at The Grange. It's a blast to watch and heckle and play some "herd golf" at the same time.

Most Ultimate Discs are Super Class Discs - there are lots of them... "Think Frisbee"

Here is a link the can help which has a chart of approved discs http://www.pdga.com/files/documents/PDG ... _41609.pdf

Example: My Discraft Sky Pro Freestyle disc is a Super Class Disc and of course it is Pink

I also think I pretty much just repeated everything Chris said.

Everyone that signs up plays from hole 1 with people eliminated on each hole that til only 1 person is left. If there are ties on the hole than a furthest from a CTP eliminated the person.

WHY???

I had already taken out all the posts that don't apply anymore, so it wouldn't have any non pertinant information in it, becuase a non-member had asked about it and couldn't "SEE" any info about it where it was.

I guess that was a waste of my time.

here's the tentative schedule based on paul's email:

Sun July 19th @ redan
9:30 am -- Superclass Singles
lunch to follow, free for all ADGO members
After lunch -- random draw doubles

i'm working on putting together a list of who's current. basically if you renewed @ the fall event @ perkerson or have renewed since you are current. if not it's $10 to renew, $15 to join.

I'm donating a mini grill for course use. It's not big but it will be there (until stolen) for anyone to use.

I agree with Carl.....doubles only for me....superclass is good but why do we have to play it for our ADGO event. Sounds dumb to me since $ is the #1 ranked superclass player in the world in a format designed for old farts....im just saying

I have little interest as well in throwing lids at Redan, Moose. So, if anyone else wants to devote the morning to Disc Golf while waiting for lunch, I have an option. With enough interest, I'll even provide a full explanation of...

TourneyWORKS!(TM) <---CLICK IT

In brief:
Groups of 5. 6 if necessary.
WORKS! begins on Hole 10.
51 not 210.(Hundredth Monkey RuleTM)
Card playoffs apply(sides stop.)
Overall sides bonuses.
Overall score bonuses.
ClotLOCK(TM) bonus!

Flip for groups 10am. (Taunt 'Super'class at 9:30)
Instruction begins at 9:35. I could provide cards.
Need 10 minimum.
You in?

Ritger, let's talk about pin placement (and ADGO sponsorship).

Superclass sounds like a long boring round at Redan, so I'm in for works.

Moose,

A poll was conducted (on this thread I think, but I no longer see it) asking ADGO members to vote on the DG formats they wanted for the ADGO event. As I recall, the Super Class format got a majority of votes. If you read back up this thread, you will find numerous references to Super Class being played.
Playing one round here gives ADGO members a chance to try out Super Class without having to commit to playing in a Super Class tournament.

i think i killed the poll by combining the two threads....but the results were overwhelmingly pro-superclass. it was like 24 of 27 votes cast were for one of the superclass options.

If you don't want to play Superclass, you could volunteer to cook so i could play!

Randy, we're counting on your pit sucking good guac being there.

WE will also have a couple of added CTP's to raise money for the Clifffund! All donations welcome! See me or R Kelly to donate.

Sounds like a lot of people are scared to play superclass because they are afraid of $$ embarrassing them ... just FYI, although he came up with the layout, he will be playing in North Carolina... so he won't be there to spoil your fun

How many of the people who voted have these "superclass" discs? I am in for anything other than superclass as I have no "superclass" discs. Works would be better if only a small # of people play. Otherwise it should be doubles. Superclass, I got a bunch of petsmart doggie discs lets paly with those.

I have 3 of them and was planning on buying a few more since it is really fun.
If you don't like the idea of Superclass, don't play.... but still hang for some food & doubles

Sounds to me like $$ is a bit skeered to play and ran 2 states away so he won't get embarassed. Tounrey in NC? right - we all know the real truth. I didn't even know the had disc golf in NC.

Super time with the big lids. Should've scored better but those things are just too big for the basket. Hope everyone had fun during dubs! Wished I could've stayed. Thanks for the club putting this on. When and where is the next one??

Super Class was a Super Cool time. It brought back alot of great memories of when I first started playing. I think everyone had a fun time mixing things up a bit.

Thanks to the ADGO Staff for running the action and the cooks whol helped make it a great lunch. Can't wait to do it again. 8)

Good party yesterday! 27 for Superclass and 30 for dubs and who knows how many people we fed! Thanks to everyone who helped out yesterday either donating their time, energy, CTP prizes or just giving Cash. Atlanta golfers have got to be the most generous in the world! $520 raised for the Cliff Rickel fund in one day! All i can say is WOW!
