i dunno why the pros dont sign up for gsss, but i have a few ideas.

#1Money- We are poor, busy, and lazy. sure its not your fault, but it costs more to play pro and in these times some people cant justify dropping $60+ just in case they wanna have a chance to play 6 weeks from then. would it really hurt to hold 15 spots for pros? it is sanctioned by The Professional Disc Golf Association. I have nothing against Ams, but Pro players pay more for yearly dues, and have higher entry fees

#2The courses-We have played enough tournaments at central for a lifetime. I dont know many pros that like central. with so many new courses around the state, it would be nice to sample different courses every year.

Pay your money, I donate every time I play -- pick the event you want to play and plan ahead -- it's not like Keith hasn't laid out the dates for you well in advance -- you have to prioritize. You have two choices, either get in or shut up -- as an Am, I am tired of the whining and whinging from the some of the better players -- play or don't. As for the weather...welcome to summer in in the South baby.

Good try Dale, but those who have lived here a while should try to not
schedule a tournament at an open course during the hottest time of the year.
2007 was miserable out there and should have been taken in consideration
for subsequent years. With 6 events at 6 different courses, one would think that
courses with more cover would be used later in the season. I don't mean to rag on
Keith as he has done local disc golf a great service and it's too late to change this,
but maybe next year this will be considered.

The other thing that no one mentions is that with the AO using it in March/almost April - it doesn't make sense to use the same course a month later which I could have by switching it and using it instead of DEERLICK,
Then DEERLICK would have been in August and no one would play Central 4 weeks later in May - nope that doesn't work -
OK how about this, I move lake Russell to August and Central to the finale the weekend after Labor Day, - nope that doesn't work as then everyone is in Lake Russell in Sept and no one is at Central again,
One more try, I move it to the end of June and it's only 92 degrees, instead of 97, and we play Meeks in August where it's 93 instead of 80 in June.

Alright now we have saved 4 degrees and drove 2 more hours North to do it!

Thanks Kade, well said. Tournament Directors fail in at least one persons eyes no matter what they do. Who knows maybe we will have windy rain, would that be better than clear, hot and sunny? If you were on the deck of a cruise ship in the Caribbean playing shuffle board with your wife in 103 degrees would you still be shedding tears? For that matter, what about playing in the disc golf cruise tournament on a hot day?

As for not getting into a tournament in time, eventually Pros will learn that preregistration is mando in GA these days.

Nobody is crying. Just suggesting that if you are going to hold a 6-tournament series, that maybe you drop Central in the fray on a month where the heat is somewhat mitigated. Furster, Keith has suggested that this is his "hot-weather" tournament implying the timing is intentional. I play Central year-round and playing in the heat is not a huge deal as I am born and rasied here. Soooo - not whining just suggesting - I whine about the insipid 2-meter rule; not about the heat.

I've always done my tourneys with the philosophy if 200 people want to play Its my job to make it happen. Even if you only use 18 holes why exclude so many people? 72 would be foursomes for 18. Whats wrong with that?

72 total. Same as all gsss 18 hole 4somes. After preregistration for all 6 and Keiths reserveed Ga's team spots you only have 40-50 spots left for his tournys.(im sure I left something out) You say you dont play in tournys anymore, well welcome to 2009.

p.s. If you want to sign up for advanced you have to play against the biggest baggar in the state, Skeletor. He must be your friend the way you jump to his defense. What are you an old washed up baggar too?

BTW... I won 1 am tourney then moved to open.About 2 years later Iost part of one of my fingers and haven't played much since. I've only played 2 singles since tourneys then. 1 in open 1 advanced. I didn't cash in open, I was second in advanced.Washed up...no.

I dont think I'll quit bitching for now. Peer pressure works better for this type of thing. Since Ive been playing tournys ('06ish) I havent seen someone dominate like he has. Around here for the most part top rated ams (usually 945-955 rated) win a couple tourneys and cash in the top three a bunch and then try open. During these good performances you can compare yourself to the pros(we almost always play the same tees). This will tell you where you fall if you were to play open. I guess I'll mention that he shot 3rd best of all the competitors in his last performance. Not last cash in pros, not almost cashing in pros but a solid top 3. I think Jason said something along the lines of, "Im playing advanced to get better". Since his poor performances as a pro and then moving down he has top three finishes virtually every tourny for two years now. What else do you have to prove. Move Up!

As for practicing and getting better, I do and I am, everyday weather permitting. I shot five strokes better than my best round at erp a week and a half ago

Hole by Hole descriptions for all divisions EXCEPT REC will probably be the same as they were for the National Tour.
I might change locations on a hole or 2 depending on how the new pin placements that I have not seen yet look.
Once set I will NOT change them unless some tragedy causes them to have to change.

I WILL NOT decide until I see them and can get with Terry to see how maintenence of the Disc Golf areas will be covered.

I will also look to see how the few changes from last years Event will affect the flow for the REC Divisions.

This Saturday, 7-25, from 9-1, we are having a course work day to get things in order for the tournament. Please make plans to attend all or any part of the day. We are in dire need of trimmers and such as there is a lot of pruning and weed-eating that needs to be done. Also, bring a trash bag or two with you when you come - there is a lot of trash on the course. We will meet at the practice basket at 9.

Aaron, There was no going over of anything about Central's course at the players meeting on SAT morning - the only thing said about Central was we were teeing off at 9AM Sunday at Central. Hopefully with 1 round a day with tee times next time, we can go over things better.

So I've made some mental notes to be ready for next time.
If you guys thought my hole by hole descriptions were long before......... just wait!

On the slope hole if you shank way right, or if when teeing off on the gym hole a headwind gust blows your disc onto GA 400 you are OB.
If you throw a roller on the gym hole, and someone opens the gym doors and your disc rolls inside you are OB.
If your disc is surrounded by ANY FENCE ANYWHERE on the course, locked or unlocked, you are OB.
If your disc is surrounded by water in the creek, NO MATTER where on the course the creek is (beside the fairway, crossing the fairway, behind the basket, in front of the basket) you are OB.
Concrete / Edge of grass defining OB line applies to ANYWHERE on the course, not just 1 of the 2 manhole covers, because it suits you, including the PAVILION.
Beyond any string line anywhere on the course is OB.
On or beyond any walking path running parallel or beside a fairway is OB.
When teeing across or from a walking path, the path is NOT OB.

Some other ideas being considered are:
If you are touching the smooth concrete of the Gym you are OB, but if your disc is hanging on the rough concrete below 2 meters you are IB (this is what my group came up with in the second round while thinking of other OBVIOUS OB situations)
If you are on top of a PDGA or sponsor banner, you make your next throw 3 feet from the basket.
If you are being filmed and make a bad shot, it won't count and you get to do another take, so it looks good for the viewing public.
And my personal favorite is: I'm NEVER OB no matter where on the course my disc is, because if having no integrity is good enough for some of the top pros, it's certainly good enough for my 951 rating.

Some of these will actually be in the general rules for the Event.

Of course I know you were kidding, but that post from the Atlanta Open thread basically just goes to show how if you leave ANYTHING obvious out of the descriptions, that SOMEBODY will find a way to play unfairly - when they know damn good and well that was A) not in bounds, and B) should never have been brought up to the TD, and C) PLEASE let me be the Marshal or Course Official when somebody tries to say it's not in the descriptions, and I'll say OK , I'll give you that, but please hold on a minute here while I call the police and fire departments to rescue you from this hazardous area if you climb over that fence.

Either way it and all other fenced areas, creeks and buildings will be covered by the general course rules that will accompany the Hole by Hole descriptions.
And keep in mind, I'm also not nearly as nice as Rand, Jay Voss or Dave Gentry are, and will have no problem laughing in your face if you ask me if you can play from in there.

Just got the call from INNOVA that the Inncolor and Hotstamp discs for the 2010 FCO 5 super tour which will wrap up the GSSS'10 next year are shipping out today and I WILL have them in time for this GSSS #5 (FCO 4)

Sales of these discs cannot be done online until SEPT 1st, but I am allowed to sell them in person or though PM's or E-Mails before that time as I already had some sold before the 12 month date restrictions were told to me.

So there are 23 of Each of the 3 different logo InnColor Discs available. They are only available on Star Ontario Rocs and Star BB Aviars form Innova - there are 46 Rocs and 23 Aviars available for sale at $25 each or 2 for $45 - ALL PROFITS will go towards the purse which will have a GUARANTEED $2000 First place PRO Open payout.

the 2010 FOCO is the Forsyth County Open for next year. Its part of keith's Georgia Super Six Series tournament series. Its a great tournament at Central Park off of exit 17 on 400. Keith has had Dusty, Andrew, and myself create some INNcolor and hotstamp designs to sell at the upcoming FOCO '09/GSSS #5 event on the 8th of August as a fundraiser to make next year even better.

We are playing the FCO layout at Central dubs this weekend. 4:00 tee time. $20 is all in. All the baskets are in position if you want to have a go this weekend. 12I will differ from Keith's layout because the anchor is busted - so it'll play short for the tournament.

There are several close to the North GA Outlet Mall on 400 (maybe 15 minutes away or less) and several off of 400 and hwy 20 (again, maybe 15 minutes away). I cannot attest to any of them or pricing. There is also a lot of camping near by around the lake.

Congrats to Kevin McCoy and Scott Renz for a tight battle that took 3 playoff holes before Kevin was victorius in the Open division.
Congrats to Dave Kenney in Masters, Brett Porter in ADV, Bob Johnson in ADV Masters, Scott Prandy in INT, Garrit Van Vranken in REC, and Alicia Plotky in REC Women for their wins.

Lost discs from gym roofs are listed in lost and found thread at Central Park.

The ace fund of $52 was donated to EDGE which along with the $75 raised as 1/2 of the 50/50 raffle (won by JR Bowers) gives EDGE 127 dollars from this Event. Thanks to all the players who purchased raffle tickets.

At least for next year there will be no GSSS Events in July or August which should keep the heat down - as the Forsyth County Open will be at the end of Sept as the last GSSS Event a few weeks after Lake Russell which will be on the usual same weekend after Labor Day as Event #5.

Thanks again to everyone who showed up, and to those who perservered in the heat as it was only the 2nd Event besides the CRUCIBLE to have a full field at tee off - at a course no one but me seems to like.
