Will the Layouts for each division be the same as GSSS 4?

Good question. Most likely, the divisions will play the same layout. I've thought about having a division or two playing one round long and one round short, but haven't decided just yet (that's one of the reasons we need a 2 dayer) Maybe I should call for a Grease vote...

We will also have a novice division if the demand is there (I didn't include novice on the flyer but have had 2 sign-up for it). As for the mandos, they will be similar for safety purposes. Also, if you're playing the short tees, I will make it all short tees including 17 and 12. There will be less OB even though all Keith's layout options were reasonable and well thought out.

Please, if you're considering playing, sign-up so that I can make it a better planned tournament. Day of signups are rough to manage...especially for a rookie. Also, Open Players, I plan to continue to work on added cash. Right now, Keith and Brock Woodall will have a nice pay day if one more Pro Master signs up....

It should be a good one. Thanks for your support. And I will try to directly answer your question ASAP.

I am sure you may already know this but it may be worth mentioning due to the current list registered players for Meeks. If you have one round long and one round short you may not have enough propagators to allow for a round rating. This was the reason Rec players did not receive a rating for the second round in the recent Athens tournament. Even though 5 propagators are required for an unofficial rating per layout per round, you can still get by with 3 propagators for an official rating when the rating period comes out weeks later if you have two rounds from the same tees with similar scores. If you have two rounds with differing layouts, you would also have to worry about loosing a propagator because they dropped out or because they shot more than 60 points below their average. This becomes an issue when you have several layouts with several divisions playing each round different.

(Propagator equals over an 800 rating with 8 rated rounds)

If you are on the fence about it, I would personally very much appreciate the divisions playing the same tees both rounds for simplicity and assurance of a round rating for everyone. Especially considering it is a one day event. Personally I also just prefer knowing I have a second chance to make a particular shot if I leave something on the course in Round one.

I guess that would be my "grease vote" as a player with the check in the mail :)

Thanks for running the event. I am looking forward to getting back to Meeks.

I agree. I have always prefered for the course to stay the same between rounds. It also makes it a lot easier to practice for someone like myself that lives almost 100 miles away.

Somebody hit the snooze button on Lake Russell... It's not time to get up yet. Anyway, Meeks Madness planning is rolling right along. Our latest big money sponsors are Grease and PrimoPlastic, Sears of B-ville, and Rick's Rental of B-ville. And while I'm at it, if you're planning to play Hotlanta, go ahead and sign-up to make the tds' jobs easier that day. Ya'll have fun.

Just ordered some SWEET Trophy discs for first place in each division represented. These discs are so nice my art guy won't even let me see the proof. I even went out on a limb and ordered an OPEN Trophy in case some pros decide to sign-up or show up...

If no Open Players participate, it will be my first event as TD and my first Open Trophy all at the same time. All that practice may pay off afterall....

Maybe the Open players are waiting until Friday when the Am deadline for a player's pack has expired. Only 3 more evenings...Plus, you don't want to leave that talented Advanced field. I'm so impressed with the Pro Masters, I'm providing a tournament shirt for Brock, Keith, and Grease for pre-registering.

Is added cash not being advertised the reason that there are no open players signed up? So far there are 3 pro masters and 40 something ams signed up for Meeks Madness. If no open players sign up I would imagine that some advanced players will be playing open!

Are the Old farts scared of Matlack???? Find out when he's the only open player in attendance. Would you still have a Pro division if only one showed up? What if they are scared of him, does he have to play adv?

my prediction- Matlack and all the masters get dominated when Jim Akins moves to open the morning of. beware the walking stradle putt, its goin in all day long. Matlack and Brett tie for 2nd, Brett wins the playoff (because its apprently the only course where Brett can win a play-off)

Make that 15 spots left. Heading to Rock Hill tomorrow to pick up the goods. For payout, we will have a very current, varied Innova stash. See top post for tournament/CFR discs. The purchase of these add $$$ to the payout (ams buy many of these, so power to the barneys, biatch).

Also, a big thanks to John Nisewonder. He ran the tournament last year - taught me a lot, hooked me up with a lot of TD stuff, and did a great job re-designing Meeks.

I got my tourney fundraiser discs and let me tell you they are SWEET! Glo Champion eagle-L, zepher and whippett-x. Threw the zepher a few times and it will be a fun disc! Still some fundraiser discs available, so get one or two soon! You will get a sweet disc and help us make Meeks Madness a even better tourney!

Check-In begins at 8:30 a.m.
Player's meeting at the Pavilion at 9:30-ish a.m.

Even though it says only DX, the picture of the disc on Innova's web site looks way too shiny, like an opaque champion plastic? whats up with that!? I am calling a conspiracy, I want one like the picture. Make it now, please.

Ritger and I got to use some proto Zephyr's at the IDGC superclass event and while they are good for driving, they don't do so well for putting. I fould them to be really slick feeling, but I had no towel or anything as I left my bag in the truck.

I'd love to see them go for sale though!!!!

No course map, but there are directional arrows on each target pointing to the next tee. The course flows pretty intuitively with the exception of 14 to 15. 15 long tees are almost adjacent to 6 longs.

From 14 basket, take a left, walk down the path and take a left behind 7 basket. Or, you can print, read, or whatever the course description from the GSSS#4 thread.

The Young Harris Motel has a room or two available. The phone number is 706-379-3136. The fair is in town and there is a festival going on so be prepared to pay more than normal for a hotel room.

Great tournament Matt and ALL those involved behind the scenes. I really like getting up there to play, and even though the weather was absolutely beautiful today, I want to play in March in the SNOW.

Also glad to see some "crazy swirl" plastic offered at payout. I think most of that got snatched up. Hughever went and picked that stuff out, NICE!

Congrats to all the winners (and first losers like myself)!

Thank You Matthew M. and Crew for the terrific tournament. The course was fun and the groups I played with (in the advanced masters division) were all very cool golfers. Thanks, too, for paying out such a large percentage of golfers: which made it possible for me to recieve last place cash(ha ha ha).
Your wife,Keith Johnson and Brett Porter, and especially YOU,deserve a huge round of applause for a job well done. Thanks to all responsible for such a great tourney and for making the course look so well groomed. I was a "first timer" to Meeks/Blairsville and really enjoyed playing the layout.
Thanks Again!

Also don't forget that the Recs, Novices & Juniors played a different layout than the rest of the field. I don't want Gvan thinking he had a 1000 rated round. ;)

Scores are up! Thanks to all you real-time computer geeks for trying to keep me in line, but you may want to wait until I completely post the scores before giving advice

I appreciate the kind words. Thanks to everyone for showing up and playing. We had a good time fo show! And everyone knows that was in attendance, but I would like to extend thanks to all that helped:

Hugh Torbit
Keith Johnson
Brett Porter
Chris Quarles
Caleb Kelley
Mike Dickins
Casey Taylor
Randy Beavers
Katie Mashburn

Also, no aces were hit, so we raised some money for my good friend that was in a motorcycle accident. Thanks for the support! Buy some long johns and a beanie, because if the schedule permits and the creeks don't rise, we are hitting it in March next year for a potential 2-dayer and some camping...
