The sanctioning is done and official for the 3rd annual PPIC. It will be a two day B-tier.
I will not be having a recreational field this year (sorry). I would like to know everyone's
opinion on a subject and my decision will be made by you. I heard a lot of intermediate
players express that they would have rather played the regular tee's vs the Wade Selph
layout. Let me know if you would rather play the same course as everyone else. I look
forward to seeing everyone out there this year. It will be the last weekend of September
on the 26th and 27th. More details to come. Thank you for all of your previous support
and making this tourney a success.

Hole sponsorship will include disc of choice.

well I have to say you had 8 int players and 12 rec players the numbers should speak for them self..and besides there are alot of new players starting to play and that would deter them from playing and we dont want that, lets encourage them to play. I'll bet the would be alot more rec players than int this year look at the gsss events i mean wow thats alot.....I vote for having the rec div.

I think the request was whether the INT division should play short or long tees, not whether there should be a REC division.

On that note, when I was playing INT last year, I always wanted to play the long tees to allow me to compare my scores with the ADV guys to see how I match up as I improved so I knew if I moved up where I would be in the field. No reason to move up if you know you are gonna be DFL.

That being said, time constraints and flow of the tournament is probably more important from a TD standpoint, as I am sure that everyone will be happier not having long rounds and payout in the dark, or sitting on the tee 2-3 groups deep waiting on players that may not be throwing as far or straight, hence the purpose of shorter tees for lower rated divisions. Being that there may not be a REC division, how many REC players will play anyway and sign up for INT because they want to be in the show?

If I were playing INT(where my rating is), my vote would still be for long tees.

It's not so much of a worry about time. Every year so far, we were in and out fairly early by most standards.
I usually have a great crew to help and speed things along. As for the rec division, once again, sorry. I really don't
like adding divisions lower than advanced, but I definitely don't want to exclude juniors. They are our future.

BTW,I have played many tournaments where all divisions play the same course.
Shortening the course is a new trend that I personally think needs to be done
away with unless it's a juniors event.

I wouldn't have an issue playing from either set of tees, but would slightly prefer playing from the longs.

I was going to play but now I think im not going to... I just dont think it is right to exclude the rec players from the event, I have a lot of friends that are rec players and this is not right for the sport and I am not going to play it unless rec players are allowed to play also. thanks guys maybe you guys should just deter all the lower players to just to stop playing thats a good way to keep the sport growing so sad

well thank you I play adv, rec players are the easiest player to please, lets not make this about me but about the sport as a whole,I just think detering rec players is a bad idea.I want to see the sport grow not get smaller

I can't speak for everyone, but I think you are looking at this the wrong way. There are a LOT of tournaments that have ALL divisions. There is a LARGE growing number of newer players and having some tournaments that have limited divisions should not deter beginners from playing but should encourage them to get better so they can compete in any tournament.

Along the same line as those that are in an Advanced division that are trying to get better to get in PRO only tournaments. I am sure that I am not the only AM that is in that boat, trying to get better to be able to compete in bigger tournaments.

Every other sport that has national exposure on the PRO level does not have beginners competing with them. We can't expect our sport to grow and become the national or international sport we hope for if we as players continue to try and have ALL events with EVERY division.

Of course Funky Bobby is kidding. I have nothing at all against rec or even brand spanking new players. In fact, I love
to see the sport grow. I just saw that last year, avid advanced and pro players were shut out. Let's be honest, this is
a B-tier tournament and not casual play. I truly don't mean to offend anyone by not including a rec division.

I played intermediate last weekend. It turns out that I need to stay in Rec a while longer, but even if I'm not at int level for this tourney, I'll enter and donate. It's a fun tournament, great course, and my son will be playing in juniors. Might as well play and lose. :)

I remember a time before the REC division not long ago (3 years). It seems silly to me for "recreational" players to have to put up $$$ at all to play. This, by definition, is competitive play, NOT recreational.

I don't think a course or tourney should cater to the lowest division, but instead the exact opposite. If you want to play better, practice. If you want to throw farther, become stronger and develop form. (practice) If you want the sport to grow, teach someone. Changing a course to fit a rec players game only ensures that their progress will be slower. I forced myself to learn the backhand throw because I played Riverview durring the Augusta Classic, and there were holes where my sidearm found me falling down dropoffs on the right the whole time. I didnt expect someone to change the course for me so I changed my game.

Dont change courses. Thats my vote.

I am having a juniors division. The long course/short course discussion kinda
got sidetracked. Does anyone else have any input as to whether the int. should play
short tees or long?

make it all long that way even the int will be able to see if they stack up with the adv and pros. I think maybe all the tournaments should be that way, then everyone can see how they stack up. sorry about stirring up the pot about rec just trying to make a point that maybe we should not exclude the recs, no hard feelings guys

How about Saturday only for all divisions below any Advanced and/or Pro Divisions - long pads for all players that day.

All divisions would have to come back for the awards ceremony on Sunday.

That's really not a bad question Big Red as I did not specify and I have been working on
White Oak also. But, Josh is right. White Oak is Mike D's baby (and my godchild), but
the PPIC will always be at Deerlick. I would like to eventually have a bigger tournament
that includes both parks, but it won't be a PPIC.

The design is staying with the classic star stamp having only the dates changed. This year's stamp has a Roman III through the center.
Subsequent years will only have the year changed. That small medallion star stamp has always been my personal favorite. Last year's
San Marino Rocs were hot along with the DX Big Bead Aviars. I think I'll stick with what works, as well as a few CFR discs.

DON'T SEND ANY PAYMENTS ANYWHERE YET!!!! There are 12 Cobras left. They are available by pm only
and cannot be reserved by pre-paying. You did make the cut, but please do not send any payments
yet until I actually have the discs.

The fundraiser discs are scheduled to arrive Monday. Unfortunately, I received a call today saying
that the Cobras that they have are defective and it will be another 2-3 weeks before more come in.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but they will be worth the wait.

I really like the cobra I got.... it is almost like a San Marino roc, but just a bit faster and carries a bit longer. Pretty stable, but it will hold a line really well.

They are selling on Ebay for $30 and up.

Fundraiser discs are in minus the Cobras. They should be in a couple of weeks. Innova messed up
and placed the stamp off center, but it's kinda cool I guess. Either way, I will have them available
at White Oak dubs tonight and Alexander this Saturday. Buy some and help out the PPIC. Thanks.

Innova has hooked me up big time with a temporary fix on the Cobras. I will have these
at Alexander Park this weekend and anyone who has pre-ordered a Cobra can get one of
these. They will be super rare.

Bad news: Innova informed me that they will not be getting any more Glow Champion Cobras. Apparently,
they can't seem to get the flight plate flat enough for their approval. I didn't mean to mislead anyone, and
apologize for the misunderstanding. The ones that I got are domey, but will age much better with a nice
straight glide on the end versus the pull to the right. I have sold out of the domey ones, but should be getting
more next week. The domey Cobras are getting great reviews, and though they are an anomally, are just as
special as the regular ones. In lieu of the flat Cobras, I ordered 10 Champion Glow Whippets. PM me if you are interested
in either.

He's been promising a player list for months now. What is this, some kind of Mickey Mouse operation? I hear Chuck is coming out of retirement that some weekend and running action at Victor Lord. Maybe we should just sign up for that instead.

For some reason, sign up is slow this year. Only 33 spots
left and online registration ends this Friday. A lot of people
mentioned that they were playing the PPIC this weekend at Elberton.

I'm sure you have explained this above but is there no way to sign up next week? I would have signed up a long time ago if weren't for my money situation. I should be fully healed by the end of next week and I know you always run good action so of course I want to play.

Due to our new friend the huge pile of dirt on hole 16, the Intermediate field
will be playing from a shorter tee. Also, the Juniors will be playing from the Wade
Selph layout in the interest of speed of play.

I'll second your boo Andrew, I thought only the juniors were getting the Wade Selph Layout.

I understand that but that means a completely different SSA for the MA2 field than the rest. So for the tourney you are going to have three separate SSA values. Plus I think the dirt adds a "lake element" to an otherwise easy hole.

My decision is based upon what I witnessed when there was 1/10th of that pile and a friend landed in it,
and it took awhile to find his disc. Looking at Barry's picture, I think I might have a problem clearing it.
If you play Intermediate and can clear it, more power to you. I'm not sure if the majority of Intermediate
players will be able to clear it though. Besides, it's the only hole that's being shortened . When you get a
5 on hole 3, be thankful for the easy 3 and possible 2 on 16.

You still need to create a layout for that change to generate ACCURATE ratings.

Anyone thinking that friends and fellow TD's helping each other makes one of them look inept makes YOU look inept.

Greg runs good Events and has always been helpful to me when needed.

Just because I help other TD's doesn't EVER mean that I'm running THEIR Event, it just means I'm being a nice guy, something you obviously don't get with even the things I've done that have benefitted you. :(

I'll see you at Greg's Event and you can deride me in person if you want, and we can leave this thread alone so that Greg can diseminate information.

First - If presented as a joke I can take them and contribute to them quite easily ala the Caveman videos and Cave Keith jokes. When NOT presented as a joke, I don't take them as such.

Second - Oreo or M&M?

Third - Thanks for the clarity.

Just a reminder that online sign up ends tomorrow night. The field is kinda small right now compared to
previous years' sellouts. I have around 300 new discs coming in for the payout. Oh well, I guess the few
will reap the benefits.

If it doesn't sellout prior to the event and people want to sign up day of, remember, CASH ONLY! If you
try to pay with a check, have a fun ride home.

It is with much sorrow that due to major damage to the course, the PPIC will be postponed until November 7th & 8th.
There are trees down, bridges washed away, and water up to hole 8's basket. Even if the water was to recede some
by this weekend, the course would still be quite unpleasant as well dangerous to play. If you have preregistered and
will not be able to attend that weekend, pm me and I will refund your money in full (even the $3.50 if you signed up
online). We had officially 44 players paid in and I will contact the ones that I believe may not frequent this board. This
may also give players who could not make this weekend another chance to play. Spread the word if you can. I apologize
for this inconvenience, but I can't control weather, yet.

From my point of view, I can't see why rescheduling the tournament in order to prevent a miserable weekend is a bad decision. Any good TD understands that safety should take priority over convenience. This is a primo example of rumps complaining because they can't understand a pro's logic.

Let me know if you need any help removing tree's. I can help with just about anything you need help with (course wise).
I'll help and not expect anything in exchange, besides a game of "rip't"..... anyone ever even played that game before??

Maybe this will give me time to save some money to be able to play. :P

Still low on entries folks. You can get with me at either Lost in the Woods or Fright Flight if you
don't want to do online registration. Do I sound like I'm desperate? I guess I am, and a little disappointed.

The course looks great now. Many thanks to Mark Cannon for tree removal
on holes 4, 11, 15, and 17. Aside from tee markers that have been kicked
away and will be replaced soon, we will be ready in November! Sorry for the
inconvenience and I hope to see you at the PPIC!

The course actually is new to some extent. The gap over the creek on 4 is much more
open due to the removed trees. That doesn't necessarily mean it's easier. Hole 4 has transformed
with less creek on the front side, but more on the back. There's a joke there somewhere! Also, clearing
the dirt on whole 16 has now commanded at least a 330' shot. You don't want to land on top of the dirt
pile. Trust me!

38 spots and holding. At this rate, we may just make the PPIC one super group and play one round per day.
Just kidding. I have come to realize that if this tournament has smaller attendance, then it will just be that
more intimate. Online registration is available at http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore ... 1245137671
I will also take entries at Fright Flight this weekend in person. I look forward to seeing everyone in two weeks!

I have heard from a couple of people that have not played Deerlick in a while. The course is in great shape. A lot of work has been done on a bunch of the holes with tight routes to loosen things and give us wilder drivers a sporting chance. The course is legit and a lot of fun. Those that have not been here in a while will be pleasantly surprised.

I hope a few more folks sign up for this one, it'll be a good time for sure.

I had to dig back pretty deep for this Matthew. Wow, PPIC I had 18 open players!

There are 4 hotels along the access road off of twenty about
1.5 miles from Deerlick. Basically, if you are heading West
on I-20, when you exit onto Fairburn Rd (92) you make a
u-turn to the right onto Westmoreland Plaza. You will see the
string of hotels from I-20 with a Cracker Barrel (that name
offends my people) conveniently nestled in the midst of them.

Here's the contact info:

Days Inn - 770-949-1499
Comfort Inn - 678-504-2000
Super 8 - 770-9494926
Holiday Inn Express - 888-400-9714

Considering that we are in the off-season and no where near the famed Booger Festival in
Douglasville, you should get a pretty decent rate on a room.

Greg,

Don't take me off the list quite yet but my back is stilled really F'd up. If this was the NFL injury report I would be listed as Doubtful.

In 16 years of disc golf, 4 years of college baseball, & 12 years of youth sports I have never missed a game or tourney due to injury. In college I even played through a separated shoulder, this may be a first, and I'm pretty disappointed & pissed. :( :x

I will confirm friday if I will be able to go so that you can fit someone else in if the tourney fills.

I heard that Grease is going to run some ring of fire action. Deerlick rules though. He's going to find a willing participant that will do doughnuts in the parking lot while we try to whizz discs through his open windows. Any volunteers to drive?

Man disc golf would be so much better if MPO, MPM, and MA1 were one division. Instead we have 3 different divisions with less than 10 in each. It seems like a 25 person division would be fun, but i guess thats just me

Why would that be fun, why don't the MA1's just hand their money to the Pro's and go drink beer for the weekend. It would be about the same.

What happened to all the Pro's that used to be around? Why aren't you harassing them to come out and play again instead of pushing everyone to move up? Just a few years ago I sold over 30 tags to Pro's in Atlanta and now they have all disappeared, and I am not talking about them buying tags, I am talking about the number of folks who sign up for tournaments.

I agree with this to an extent. I think they should stagger entry fee's based on player ratings. I'm a 930 rated player. I would have more incentive to play Open if my entry were lower. I know that I can't compete with the Open players, but I would take the opportunity to learn more. If they staggered entry fee's the Pro's would still get some added cash because of us who are donating and we would get the chance to compete with better player's. Just some rough numbers, but this is what I was thinking.

A-Tier:
985+ $100.00
955-985 $80.00
935-984 $70.00
934-lower $45.00

B-C Tier
$60.00
$50.00
$40.00
$25.00

You would still meet requirements and it would be worth while for lower rated players to play and try to improve. As you get better your rating goes up and you start paying more money.

If DG had a true handicap system like ball golf we could all compete against each other on a level playing field. Heck even bowling leagues have a handicap system.

Example..My most recent ball golf handicap was 21. Tiger Woods doesn't have a handicap. That means I get 21 strokes before we even start. Tiger would probably still beat me but at least it would be competitive.

The following statement is not meant to be negative. I think that there are 2 completely different types of Pro disc golfers.

There are local Pro's that travel within there region playing tournaments, stepping outside of said region here and there. They win some they lose some, but they don't set the world on fire.

Then there are the select few that actually make a living doing this. They compete on the National Tour. They cash or win every time they go out. They show up at random A-Tier's here and there and dominate. They are talked about and are expected to perform at each event. They have sponsors relying on them.

While I do admit, there are several of our "local Pro's" that are on the cusp of breaking into the next phase, the Pro scene in Georgia is weak compared to other states and regions. That's just my opinion. I think that a staggered entry fee system would work great in Georgia. It would increase field size and it would also increase awareness from other states. If they see us having lower tier tournaments with 25+ Open players they are going to travel to play in these tournaments. You can't expect someone to travel from out of state to compete with 8 other Pro's for a very limited purse. More Open player's at your tournaments is a good thing. Us lower rated guys will appreciate the chance to compete with different player's and you higher rated guys that are on that cusp will welcome the chance to beat some great player's. It always looks better on paper when a 990 rated player is in the top 3 surrounded by 1010+ players. It increases personal awareness as well as player ratings.

I smell what you are stepping on Dollar. Move anywhere you will find more pros. Age protected divisions ARE for ladies! When I started playing tourneys there were twice as many open players on average per tourny. It does suck when you work your arse off for several years to see the competition vanish before your eyes once you become a dominating player. The only protection anyone should get is when you turn 60. Im sick of our society handing out trophys and pats on the back b/c you participated. Ohhh I had fun today. I got a trophy for beating 3 other people. I AM AWESOME! WEAKSAUCE! No comment on the "p's" that move down(they EXPECT a trophy every time too!)

Craig Gangloff already has run this sliding fees type of Event with some success in Maryland this year. You can see the talk about it by finding the Seneca Creek Soiree thread on the PDGA Discussion board.

Also there is a local TD who keeps Entry fees close for ADV and Pros to encourage players to play up without massive cost differences if they wish to test the waters, but it has not encouraged players to play in Open except for a few here and there.

I don't think there is any "magic" answer as it seems to be a regional as well as in most of the country issue according to most PDGA discussion board posts every time the issue comes up (usually 2-3 times a year)

One day in a perfect world there will be two organizations. One for am's and one for pro's, like every other legit sport in history. To be honest a lot of open players do not have bank roles to pay for tourny's 1-4 months in advance. The field gets flooded with am's and rec players, before the pro's are able to get in. This is a joke. I know I am broke. I missed lost in the woods and Fright Flight, Two tournys I have played every year since I began playing, until this year. On another note: To think that none of your are good enough to compete, is stupid way of thinking. If you were true competitors, you would strive to be the very best you could possibly be. Commit yourself and make sacrifices. Either way I don't care, I just want to play.

It's the Amateur competitive structure that has failed the Pro's.

If Disc Golf had TRUE Amateurs then we would have more Pro's, but we don't so therefore there will always be many more AMS.

If Ams paid their entry fee and got most or all their entry back up front in players pack and played for a trophy then we would have more Pro's, because there are people that want to gamble. But since the Am's actually are playing for prizes, why would they actually move up and pay more of an entry fee just to hand it over to the top dogs.

Man please, the PDGA thrives on it's Am's. Start running the Am's away from tourneys, the PDGA suffers and therefore the large PDGA tourneys that Pro's strive (and need) to win dwindle.

Oh your absolutely right! The PDGA does thrive on the AM's and that is where the issue becomes fuzzy, because the PDGA is called the PROFESSIONAL Disc GOlf Assoc. and thats why it's weird, the Am's run and rule the PDGA...Matlack is right also, there needs to be both Am tourney's (THAT PRO's SHOULD RUN) and then there should be PRO ONLY tournies that are for the big bucks. When the tournies are both AM's and Pro's you should always expect there to be 80/20 Ams/Pro's.

Run a pro only event with no ams and see how much money you win. Gonna have a $700 entry fee?

Talk about biting the hand that feeds ya. Get rid of the 65 am players and see what the 3 open guys make.

Seriously. Do you think that you are the only one that is broke? To make a comment like this claiming the Pro players are to poor to pay there entry in advance is ridiculous. I'd like to see the results if a TD decided to save spots for open players. I guarantee the spots won't fill and the field will be opened back up to all willing participants. I'll admit, I think tournaments should hold X amount of spots for Open players. After it's all said and done we will still be having this same conversation.

If you really want to take the disc golf scene by storm, start the pre-registration 1 week prior to the tournament. That should give you plenty of time to save up $80. If you don't make it in then you should work on your fund raising skills. Maybe there's room for you in the girl scouts. You'd look good in the uniform selling cookies while your vag drags on the ground.

CFR and Tee Sign Sponsorships are predominantly purchased by Am player's. Other money comes from corporations and businesses. In some cases (not many) am entry fee is used to pad costs like course and pdga fee's.

This is just an assumption. I've yet to run a tournament, but I will soon find out for sure.

We all played penny poker before we ever put down a $100 buy-in. The gambler in me doesn't think its a good bet but believe you me I'll be there one day. Speaking of poker, the disc golf world has barely seen me on the felt. Bring your cash. And the ADDED $500 too.

Your pretty close!

I've ran about 2 dozen tournaments over the years, one being the 2006 Am Worlds, so I understand how important the Ams are. You can splice the money anyway you want but most Pro's like to see 100% of their entry fees come back into the payout, so the added cash from CFR's and sponsors are what covers extra amenities (port-a-potty, pdga fees, lunches etc.) You are correct about Am player's are usually the ones that purchase CFR's and Tee Signs but that's a bias stat because 80% of the players that play tournaments ar Am's

PRO's are tight asses when it comes to buying CFR's and tee signs and usually they are the first to biatch about payouts, I used to be that guy about 10 years ago before I started running events. I realized a LOOOOONG time ago no one is getting rich off playing disc golf, it's a HOBBY to me that I sometime rake a little cash from.

Tulsa Am Worlds has been my only Worlds experience to date, but I must say that it was awesome. I know you are aware of AM importance.

How do you feel about increasing the Pro field by staggering entry fees and giving AM's a little incentive to move up? At least then all talk about AM entry being used to beef up Pro payout will be out the window. Most TD's will have met PDGA requirements with the staggered entry system. I think Pro fields would grow leaps and bounds.

The majority of am's that cash at these tournaments do so nearly every time. It's gotten to the point that you're not really playing for anything anyway. Who really needs another $100 worth of discs? The problem is, there may be a tournament where a 940 rated am moves up at a lower fee and actually wins the tournament. Then there will be complaining about someone winning more than they deserve because they didn't pay as much.

I say we just throw in the towel, quit disc golf, and join a Beer Pong League.

Staggering entry fees, I'm not sure how I feel bout that one. It sounds worthy of a try. I want more players in Open also, but I understand we can't just expect the 950 and below to continue to donate to us.

I am a member of the PDGA Competition Committee and a couple of years ago I tried to propose a new Pro Division (Semi-Pro) Where the Semi-Pro's would pay half (or a smaller amount) entry fee and they would play within the Open division, but not for the added cash. It would give some of these border line Pro's the opportunity to play with the big dogs to gain experience as well as add more players to the Open division. It's a little more detailed than that but it was suggested to bridge the gap between the Adv & Open divisions.

I am adding 40% percent to each division for payout. I am also not deducting PDGA fees,
so what got paid in will get paid out plus 40%. The fundraiser discs did not sell as well
as I'd hope and that's mostly my fault for lack of promotion. There are plenty left and if
you would like to help me make less of a dent in my 401k, please buy some this weekend.

Still 19 spots left and online registration ends tonight. Matthew Mashburn had to drop out
due to a death in the family, so let's keep him and his family in mind.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend and getting the spaceship out of the
garage for a couple days.

We are still around, its just that since Grease and Keith had their little problem, Keith has been telling us all not to play in other events and to only play in the GSSS events.
Some are even saying that they have developed health issues and cant play. Is it easier to believe that a healthy, incredibly talented golfer suddenly developes a hurt back (complete with x-rays) and cant compete for the first time, or that Keiths desire to dominate the Atlanta TD world will get him to pressure his team golfers to only play in his events?
Look, no Q, Rookie, or Chim Chim, only Dollar is going against Keiths wishes (demands).

This is hardcore! Please explain more.

Brian, the decision to make 16 shorter for the intermediate field was based on the condition
that the dirt/mud pile was in a few weeks ago. At that time, we hadn't seen the sun in nearly
a month, and that pile was also about 20 to 30 feet further out. Clearing it required about a 300'
shot.

I think that having Intermediates tee for the alt was a good decision. My comment was really directed to a scoring system that creates scores from "conditions" based on propagators for each layout. I know that the SSA difference has less to do with the alt tee and more to do to the fact that the Int field as a whole, played consistently better compared to their ratings than the field playing the longer tees. It could have just as easily gone the other way.

First, When someone comes walking toward you with homemade elf ears glued on and says "How are you doing? I'm an elf today." That's funny.

Second, I am glad you posted the link. I know a 3 people (2 are kids) with autism. They are much worse off than Christopher and can be violent at times. It appears that Christopher is fairly harmless and just wants attention and accolades. I watched the five part video titled "Autism" and went from thinking this guy was creepy to hoping I see him the next time I'm at Deerlick. I'd like to shake his hand and tell him he's famous.

I feel bad that I have changed with society. When I was young, there was a retarded (we could use that word then) guy that hung around Pershing Park in Minneapolis. Everyone called him "Pershing Park Larry." Parents knew about him and still let their kids go to the park alone. He gave candy out and played with the kids on the playground equipment. Today, I wouldn't let my kids near someone like Larry. That makes me a bit sad. Another part of my flawed personality to work on; just what i need. =-)

Maybe you didn't have to go out of your way and pull off the towel that was wrapped around it after you had asked him what he was drinking and he lied and said it was an energy drink(even though it was none of your beezwax)? That's what i heard happened. And i know it's against the rules, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!! I just know this........I would NEVER DQ one of my disc golf brothers or sisters for drinking a beer on the weekend at a fun disc golf tourney they paid money to play in.(Unless i was a TD and someone MADE me do it). Drinking beer definately doesn't give a player an advantage. Maybe thats just me.

Someone drinking in a tournament is breaking the rules. Bottom line. If they are drinking in a tournament that one of their friends is
TD'ing shows a complete lack of respect for their friend by putting the TD and other players who are respecting the PDGA rules, as well
as Georgia state laws, in that situation. I'm no angel, but I never drink alcohol during a sanctioned tournament. DQ'ing Clunck wasn't a
fun thing for me to have to do, but I don't get why people can't grasp the cold hard fact that he was drinking during a PDGA sanctioned
B-tier tournament, was called out by TWO people, and according to PDGA rules had to be DQ'd. The rounds were only 2 1/2-3 hours. Can't
you wait that long?

Grease, nobody is hatin' on you, you had to do it. We appreciate what Keith does to help the sport, but his people skills are arguably the worst we've ever seen. There was nothing to gain by calling out Clunck, so it's regretful that Keith made you choose between DQing him, or reporting you for not DQing. This is not like Ricky Nickle pissing on a fire hydrant whilst people drive by the OP!

No - it's actually worse, as it could cost the course that Greg, DD, Lovegrove and all the others worked so hard to work on go away.

With the work you have helped out with at the "BigW" and the changes forced on the park by the neighbors, you should understand that as easy as it was given to the golfers it can just as easily be taken away if they see disc golfers as "law breakers and bad guys".

You may not understand my "people skills", but for almost 15 years I have helped to get courses in the ground, start clubs from the ground up, work with cities, counties and states to get courses approved and installed - working with the various park entities and the local golfers who have been working with those park entities for years before I moved here - so that Disc Golfers can play in Events that I run.

So I'll close for now by using my best people skills to say that if you want to drink during a PDGA Event that I'm at, be smart enough to not do it right behind me, and put the TD in a position to do something that he or she would really not like to have to do.

There are plenty of unsanctioned Events for the "nutty Squirrels" to play in if they can't go 2&12 hours without drinking.

Hell you can drink up to the 2 minute warning and then as soon as you have made your last putt in a PDGA Event as long as it is LEGAL to drink in the location the PDGA Event is being held - just NOT during the round itself - pretty simple, even for a squirrel.

I personally would respect that, IF i ever showed up. And i don't drink during tourney rounds(although i have before), it takes away from my already depleting game. I sometimes drink at lunch though. It's that attitude that would keep me away. Not you, Doug(?), you have to do what you have to do to keep your course. I question the attitude of the Parks people if they are so concerned about adults drinking some beer. Especially a rare event. One more beer and it's pulled? I personally don't want to hang out in that "policed" environment. I'm sure that's just me and i'm the bad guy now, but whatever! And, i wouldn't DQ another player for it, although i would warn someone. So thanks for the stern warning.

I'm just glad that someone has the courage to follow the rules in this game. I sadly have failed in that aspect many times over the years when I should have reported someone for this type of behavior. It is hard to do when everyone from the worst players to the best around break the rules on a regular basis and you know that you will hated and ostracized for doing the right thing and calling them on it. Keith is more of a man than I am in this respect because he puts doing what's right first and accepts the low and unjust consequences. When or if the game really grows up and matures this conversation won't be happening and the one who breaks the rules will be the one being ostracized. Thanks again Keith for everything you do for Georgia disc golf and disc golf in general.

One of the biggest draws of this game is that we don't have to be snobby and pretentious like ball golfers. We have agreed over and over again that Clunck broke the rules. The point a bunch of us are trying to make is that maybe we can just live and let live, as long as no cheating is taking place. The last point I will make on the topic, is that parks departments don't want empty beer containers to be littered in the park. They are not trying to tell us what we can put in our bodies, only what not to leave behind for others to pick up. Respect the parks, and respect each other. PEACE!

If you wish to LIE to your friends, be my guest, but I did NOT pull down on the towel(you had a good grip on it) and YOU said the JEDI mind trick line, not anyone else. There were 5 people there that heard you say it - so I assume you are calling Bob Johnson, Bob Braun, Jon Plotky and Dave Douglas all liars too huh?
And you can believe you did not disrespect Greg, but I and others believe you did disrespect him by not waiting until the end of the round to drink.
I personally do not care how you or anyone else feels about "my kind" - whatever that means.

At least have the balls and man up to tell the truth on the message board - and you can tell your pals whatever story you want behind the scenes, so you can be the "good guy" and I can be the mean ol' cave man.

Either way, I did nothing wrong in the way it was handled - you did.

I'll await your apology also, which I'm sure I'll receive the same time as REEdan Randy's.

Does Keith always obey the speed limit ? If a cop ever feels like letting you off with a warning, be sure to demand that he give you a ticket anyway.

And if you pee-d at anytime in the woods during Greg's tourny, what's wrong with you? can't you wait 2-3 hours instead of urinating in public. How disrespectful of your friend!

In certain parts of town where the speed traps are, yes - in other parts no.

Your point Mr. lawman is what?
We all know you are on Chad's side - we get it.
Did you DQ yourself for turning in an incorrect scorecard in the same round after someone nicely told you off to side in PRIVATE that you had not followed the rule on holing out, but since your cardmates were halfway down 1's fairway and didn't see it that it would just be a lesson to use next time?

If you want to play tit for tat, you will lose out as telling the truth has one advantage in that it never has to be changed depending on who you are telling the story to.
Unlike your story or what Chad told you and you tried to turn into a simple assualt charge, but failed to remember that Chad had NOT told me to not touch the towel, making your grand play moot.

I guess I also will now fall into Chad's and your definition of "your kind" even though I wasn't "your kind" when raising money for Chad's brother at Lake Russell, or paying upfront for the gravel at White Oak out of my pocket.

Again I'm ok with that and being the bad guy you and Chad believe me to be. It won't change my life or what I do for disc golf in any way.

Grease- In all seriousness, please Disqualify me for not holing out on #18 during the first round of play. I picked up my disc from 1 foot away.

Whew, now that my conscience is clear....

Keith- please accept my apology for my part in defending Chad. I only wanted to stand on a soap box to get accross the big picture....None of us is really an ANGEL! before I make my exit from the topic for good this time, well... I'd like to thank people like JAY and other service members on this, the 234th birthday of the U.S. Marines. Seriously, without folks like that... we wouldn't be able to have had such an enthralling debate.

Who's up for some course improvements @ White Oak ? I want to be known for that again.

PEACE!

I'm sorry you think following the rules and the law is being "snobby and pretentious." Breaking the rules is cheating. The parks departments have made drinking illegal in parks not because of trash but because of the substance itself. By your logic bottled water should be illegal as well because someone might throw the bottle on the ground. They are most definately telling you what you can't put in your body at the park. The bottom line for everyone is if you don't want to follow the rules why play tournaments? It's just illogical. It would be much cheaper and easier to just go play somewhere and take your chances on not getting caught breaking the law.

I think Pete has just been playing devil's advocate here. Stirring the soup. He is just a fun loving guy and was trying defend good times. I also took up this debate for a bit because it was interesting debate...Chad's breaking the rules v. Keith Crushing any chance of a good vibe weekend.

My 2 cents: The lack of TACT was the reason this got all heated. Handle the situation personaly. Tell Chad how the drinking is offending you and that you intend to report him. TO HIS FACE.

Don't come RAGING up to Grease in front of everyone else who happens to be there and cause a scene, telling everyone all the buisness. It should be handeled more privately. Maturely and Calmly.

would that have made ME the bad guy for DQ'ing Clunck?

No because you would be doing the right thing. You still were the one who DQ'd him, and nobody thinks you were the bad guy. You did what you had to do and when you DQ'd him you pulled him off to the side and did it privately. You didn't do it at the scoreboard in front of everyone.

Is semantics your way of explaining RAGING (which is highly blown out of proportion)?
Chad's drinking didn't offend me - his doing it right behind me knowing I would say something offended me.
I did tell Chad I would say something, and how could he be that stupid to do this right behind me. - So again if you wish to know the REAL story, since you were not there and did not hear anything being said - I've explained it or you could ask either of the Bob's, or Plotky, or DD - as besides Chad and myself - they were the only ones there.
The lack of tact was only displayed by Chad drinking during the round, and you hovering around while the stories were being researched by Greg. I believe I was very calm during the actual reporting part. I did get upset with you and the lawman on Sunday when you 2 were trying rationalize something you both knew nothing personally about, but had heard from Chad, or maybe even 3rd hand from others.

Thanks for playing the He said - She said game though - there are lovely parting gifts for those trying to rationalize this situation.

I really don't want to be involved in this so I am gonna step off now. Sorry Keith I mean no disrespect, I was just caught in the middle. Chad is my friend and so is pete and you and everyone else. I want no problems. I tend to mediate when I shouldn't.

Remember when we were kids and someones little brother had to tell on you for every little thing? He usually got his butt kicked and didn't have many friends. That's the same kid that grows up and joins the Marines but hasn't lost that, "get into other peoples business" quality and still has no friends and pulls a stunt like, tell on a fellow Marine for something that wasn't his business, and ends up getting a tenderizing from a bunch of bars of soap in a pillowcase. Sometimes you just need to mind your own business if it isn't hurting anyone. Your not the Police. You weren't even the TD. Get a clue Keith, who does that sort of thing?

This was by no means a suggestion to tenderize Keith with bars of soap in a pillowcase. It was just a graphic example in "How To Lose Friends".

Wrong - What is does show is that I have always have been consistent and helped people out in any way I possibly could, no matter how anyone feels or felt about me personally - and you are a two faced person who only likes "my kind" when he does something that benefits him.

Your definitions leave alot to be desired, and your lack of honesty when talking with your friends - so you can try and paint me in a worse light - leaves me believing you don't really give a crap about the truth, but just how you can make yourself more believable, because you can't remember what stories you have told to who, and by reacting this way - by trying to make me the bad guy you are just showing your two faced true colors even more.

I'm truly sorry that you can't see that.

I heard that you did pull at the towel!! (simple battery) You said that yourself  and you didn't actually ever see a beer, but you could smell a "beer odor" coming from Clunck. Maybe he spilled beer on himself at lunch? Greg didn't ever see a beer either, but he acted upon your knowledge that Clunck had a beer when neither of you saw one in his hand.

I'm not condoning beer at any golf tournament PDGA or otherwise, or speculating Gregs TD-man-ship qualities as he is the best in Ga at running a smooth tournament.

did anyone play the drop zone on 3 incorrectly and not volunteer to stroke themselves? How does that work if you don't play a hole correctly and you don't add the strokes are you breaking the rules? or cheating? can we assume that if one didn't play the drop zone correctly that their towel is filled with some "illegal" substance that made them unable to play the drop zone correctly?

I did make a mistake not covering this in my extremely detailed players meeting. The end result
for most people playing from the long tee, though, was generally the same whether taking a stroke
and playing from where it went out or taking a stroke and teeing from the short tee.
