The Second Annual FOP for the OP (changed to the 18th)

Postby Wayne Kiddle » Sat Feb 28, 2009 12:43 pm

The second annual Friends of The Park Tournament is on at Oregon Park April 11th 2009 (changed to April 18th)

This is a non-sanctioned fund raiser event to benefit the course at Oregon Park. This course used to be a 9 hole course but we just put in 7 more baskets with 2 on the way so we will have a 18 hole course there very soon. We will also be replacing the older baskets as we can. We will have at least 4 temp baskets up for this event so we will have 2 rounds of at least 22 holes probably 24, Johnny’s Pizza will be provided for lunch and all the sodas you want to drink, also there will be live music again this year during lunch, ring of fire ect, lots of fun and we will be guaranteeing at least $500.00 in prizes we hope to go up a lot more on the prizes as we can. If you wish to contribute to the booty please give me a call (cell 678-592-2204). We will be having sanctioned events in Cobb County very soon…… hope to see you all there.

Wayne,

You may want to move it to a different date if possible.

Kevin McCoy is going to be running a PDGA/SNDG sanctioned event on that date on a surprise course.

Most of the non-Oregon Park players will probably opt to play his tournament instead. I do not mean that your tournament will not be awesome, but Kevin's will most likely be on a temp course that we only get to play this one time.

I am afraid, that if you run it on this date, you will lose some people (like myself) that would usually come out to support Oregon Park.

Whatever you decide, Good Luck!!

After receiving many requests to change the date of this event…. And beings that I to want to go to Kevin McCoy’s tournament… we are going to change the date of the FOP to April 18th. I hope to see you all at Kevin’s tournament and the next Saturday at Oregon Park for the FOP II.

We have finalized the layout for this Tournament.... we are going to have 26 holes from white in the morning and 26 holes from blue in the afternoon.
Parking for this event will be on the Counties new property the other side of swing time, there will be a police officer on old Hamilton direction trafic, and there will be signs, so you cant miss it. If you dont sign up on line in advance you should plan to be there no later than 8:30 am

There are going to be a couple of 500+ ft holes for you long arm's out there

hope to see you all there... we will have space for 100 players

My friend and I are going to OP for a final practice round before the FOP on Wednesday. Is there any way we can get an idea where the extra holes will be??? Just to see more then anything? I know where 17 and 18 (for the normal course) will be.

I plan on being there Saturday, but the brief description that I got Thursday
had me turned around a bit. I guess I'll see when I play it. I do have a big concern
where the additional temp holes will be going.

That's my biggest question/concern too. I know the new land behind the driving range is going to be used. After you play 7, turn to your left and you see some flags in the ground. Looks like someone played the holes and did not mention it to anyone else. That's typical though. Either way, for 52 holes, a supercolor disc, all you can eat lunch, a concert and a raffle for the travel basket, IT IS ALL WORTH IT TO ME!!!!

The tourney was a lot of fun and the new tourney holes were awesome. I hope more of the tourney holes take out some of the newer holes. Good stuff OP!!! Tourney could have been a bit more organized I heard from a lot of people.

I was impressed with myself in my first tourney. I did not place that well (12th in INT. Division). BUT, I won the long drive contest for my division and finished in the top 5 overall. That works for me!! Gotta love that MEAN GREEEN CHAMP WRAITH!!! Oh and I got a 3 on the longest hole of the day which most estimated to be 600 ft. Again, love my Wraith!

Being a new player and all, you need to be careful and guard against shoulder damage; not so much from throwing, but from reaching around so much to pat yourself on the back - it can really strain that rotator's cuff...

Thanks for the advice guys. It is impressive that I drove so far seeing how I have only been playing for 4 months. I work out 3 times a week and play semi-pro football so I think the rotator cuff is just fine though. Haha, I agree with the "Drive for show and putt for dough." Obviously true seeing how I came in 12th.

You should go on tour and showcase that LONG drive, how far was it anyway?

Any OTHER news about the Tournament, Like money raised for the park, plans for future improvements, achievements of the tourney goals that the rest of the Disc Golf community can be excited about?
