This event is aimed towards newer players, The players disc golf club has 25 members with less than 2 years experience. So come on out and compete with us.

We also have around 20 players that like to play for cash, so players with advance skills can compete in the open competition.

Remember this is a whole weekend of disc golf fun.
Starting Friday may 22 we will have some singles and doubles action, fallowed by grilling and camping some Texas hold em Poker, and some Night Glow Golf.

Saturday May 23 Will be the Made in the Shade Tournament. 2 18 hole Rounds. The First Round will be Across the Street from the Farm at Hurricane Shoals Park, Playing the SuperDupersized 18 hole layout. The long course. after round 1 we cross back over to the Farm for a lunch break,
2nd Round will begin at the Farm after the lunch break.
playing 2 rounds of 9 or 12 on new long layout.
After 2nd Round we will have a very quick awards show for the winners and get back to partying.
Saturday night at the farm will have more of the same as Friday night except more..
A band out of Winder (Vertically challenged) is scheduled to play..
they rock hard and put on an awesome performance.
We will also have The UFC fight Live on payperview {small extra fee for fight}
And after another great day of fun we will camp out, wake up and play some more before packing up and leaving.

Players are invited for the whole weekend, or if you choose just to come out and play saturday that's OK as well.
Sign up will start at 9am on saturday morning.
Tournament play to start at 10:30am

You will not find a better Disc Golf Weekend IMO
More Bang for the BUCK and Great Memories that will last a life time.
Plus some of the nicest down to earth people that you will ever meet.

There are many reasons for asking this question but the main one is just common curiosity; do people actually play these events? If so how many?

"cost will be $20 for members, $25 for non members."

Are you talking about PDGA members? It doesn't look like this is a sanctioned event?

Nope - he campaigns against the PDGA :) - he means the Players Disc Golf Club which he runs. So if you aren't a member of that it's 5 extra bucks. Sounds kinda similar to me.... :?

Nope - he campaigns against the PDGA

Shedawg, It would be nice if you would not post false information about me... I do not Campaign against the pdga, I do my part by introducing new players to the sport. What they do in there spare time is there business. I would guess that 20% of the Players Disc Golf club are PDGA members.
The PDGA is just simply not for me.
I also do not know who your are, Have we met? Let's please refrain from hearsay..

The Players Disc Golf club is not the PDGA, so please do not compare the two, we are just located in north east GA.
or slogan is for the players by the players. The club has helped build two courses. all we want to do is share them with you.

Non members $5 WHY? the extra $5 gose to our host, Miss Raye, She is the Owner of the Farm, Real name (Oak Grove Studios) these funds are for her. She always takes great care of us with her hospitality. Not trying to stick it to anybody.

Jay wrote; Hi Chuck,

What is the fundraiser for?

100% of all money raised from this tournament will be used to pay off the balance left on the baskets. {the ones at Victor Lord}
and we still need to raise fund to purchase 7 more baskets to complete all 24 holes. and we still have room for 9 more holes.

Fact this course is 1000% do it yourself volunteer effort. unfortunately the Barrow county Parks have 0 funds that they can put towards the course at this time, no need for me to explain the current state of the economy.

This tournament/event is very laid back and relaxed, It is rated (E) for everyone.

Thanks for your support in growing disc golf in northeast Georgia. better known as region 5, Jackson, Barrow, Clark,Oconee,Gwinnette.

Yep, and that's my head, Monster energy drinks had some of the hottest girls on hand passing out energy drinks and applying temporary tattoos to those that wanted them.

And sorry to say that richardhead is banned from the farm, unless he can apologize for all of his rude and hurtful statements. and not just to me,but to all the members of the Players Disc Golf Club. you have offended quite a few.

Josh asked? Any pics of this years disc design ?
Not yet, Doculab is almost done with the artwork. I will post it as soon as I have it.

Care to check out the farm? we will have a clean up day this saturday, and a big get together next month for our Southern Fried Spring fling. April 11 I think is the date.

I won last years Made in the Shade. It was the best disc golf time I've had in 9+years of playing. I sponsored last year and got three stamped(one of the coolest stamps I've seen)discs, buzz or surge, t-shirt, camping. The winnings were a basket, 5-6 more discs and a couple more T's. It's the most relaxing good time tournament, camping on site, and the farm is one of the most beautiful courses I've played, and I've played courses from Miami to Dallas Tx., over 60 courses. 8)

2 New TDs for this Event, Brad Trylor and Brad Bowman.
Brad Trylor is in charge of Intermediate and Advance. He is also a PDGA Member working on getting TD certified and his marshal license. I hope we can put on a few PDGA sanctioned events in the near future.

Brad Bowman will be Running the Open Division that we call cash cow.
He is in charge of all money action.

Look for a new thread by Brad Trylor soon, He will post the layout, updates and all the other stuff TDs do.

WE still hope to get your support on our event, 20 registered so far.
we will also put up a players list soon.

I also landed the amphitheater at Hurricane Shoals park for the awards ceremony and live Concert after the event.,
Featuring Vertically Challenged
The concert is free to all disc golfers playing at the event.

More info to be released soon.

kid friendly, I suppose so. the band is a little on the heavy metal side. but there will be no alcohol at the concert, because it is not allowed in the park. all the members of the band will also be playing in the tournament, they are a bunch of good guys. and for non-tournament players there is no fee for the concert, but it would be nice if they made a donation to the tip jug.(please keep in mind this is a fund raiser for Victor Lord Park) if they would like to camp out it will be $5 that's it. I know there will be plenty of kids on hand including my own. there will be some partying that goes on at the farm, however those that cant maintain self control will probably be asked to leave, that being said we have not had any issues in the past. bottom line be responsible and have a good time.

Can't wait, still plenty of spots open. we are close to half full.

I am still looking for a volunteer or two to oversea the kids and moms action. they will be playing separate from the other divisions.please chime in if you can help out.or send me a PM

Do I get a player's pack? If so, I can take care of the mom's. As long as they are under 150 lbs.

You sure you don't want CASH instead??!!

The Chuck Smith post above is not from me....
What some guys will do for fun.

anyway we are closing in on may 23rd, we are half full or half empty at this time, I would highly recommend to those that have never attended a players disc golf event to give it a try, we are not better than PDGA event, just a little different, as in casual and laid back.

This will be my last involvement with disc golf for some time, what that statement means, I'm not sure. I just need to step away for awhile,

we do have a fun weekend of stuff planed. like I always have said It's not just the competition that I long for, its the hanging out and enjoying my brothers and sisters.

If you like Heavy Rock music, I will be unleashing the band Vertically Challenged after the tournament at the amphitheater inside Hurricane shoals park. afterward s the party will move back to the farm across the street from the park. All are welcome. heaters and non heaters alike.
We strongly encourage newer players to attend.

!0 days to go.walk ups welcome.

Vern, I really don't know you. I have never played around of DG with you. I know you face, and you played at the JW event a few years back when the cane was new. cant you just let the past in the past. I am not a bad guy, hell when you had that unfortunate crash at lake Russel, Did I not stop buy and visit you in the hospital in athens, and gave you a crappy Mr-disc golf disc, and wished you well. dude I have made a lot of mistakes in the past, other than spelling, I have learned from them and moved on.

So if you were to come out cool with me, I am not looking to get even with anyone. I am only gonna to be there and have fun.
My goal is to step away, that's why this event will have a new TD Brad Traylor. Brad should be putting a few PDGA events together in the near future.

this post could have had a lot of other names added to it, If the shoe fits you, then it's for you.

Time for some hype
Event is only 7 days away. Fun starts Friday at the farm. you can camp out Friday and Saturday if you choose.
Play and drink around 5pm, a little night Golf when the sun goes down. poker anybody, Phil chaiffen always looking for a game.
saturday, sign in starts around 8am, not real big on players meetings but there will be a short one. first round at the farm, tee around 10. lunch break after 1st round at the farm1 hour or so, shane gibbons is bringing a huge grill that all are welcome to use to cook on. and yes it is a giant gas grill. so bring your on meat, yea I said bring your own meat.
2nd round start at Hurricane shoals TBA. it is just across the street. maybe 1/8 of a mile.
keep in mind you can Drink and play at the farm during the tournament, Just do your best to keep it away from the Hurricane. What you do is your biz. I just have to inform you.
after the second round we will all meet at the amphitheater for the awards ceremony. after that Vertically Challenged will take the stage and Rock the House from 6 pm till 9pm. I am quite sure the shoals has never heard anything like what is about to be unleashed on it. the band rock, they put on a quality show . very entertaining.
after that you can come back across the street and hang out camp out and party.

One hell of a weekend for $25 dollars. plus you get a super color disc. some say they are worth $20 dollars.
$50 Sponsors get every thing listed above plus. 2 super color disc and a t-shirt and a tee sponsor sign. only 10 sponsor spots left.
no guarantee on a sponsor tee sign if not singed up by wensday.

most important, this is still a fundraiser for Victor Lord Park, the last two fundraisers lost money. I hope we can change that.

Thanks to all that helped run the action (Chuck & Brad's). I had a great time and look forward to the next MITS action.
I am very sorry to have seen my Pre-release Champion Boss ($30 cost) land in the middle of the lake, but I do think that was the longest drive I have ever thrown.... any estimated distance for that toss? I'm thinking around 550-580ft. I even backed off of the tee area about 12 feet on that shot  ..... all to watch it go OB, then almost made the recovery shot back at the basket, ended up with a circle 4 :|

Still had a great time!!!!

Simply an Amazing Weekend

Thank you to every one that attend M.I.T.S #4. i think on Friday we had around 30 or so people hanging out at the farm.camping, playing, and some Texas hold em, saturday we had around 50.
I know at times the event was controlled chaos at best, but that's how we roll.
I hope to get some pics up soon.

I (Chuck Smith) had planed on walking away from disc golf, prior to this event. I let it be known to many that I was Burned out from all of my efforts in growing the sport, mainly I always seem to be working for free and spending a lot of my own dough to make things happen. I still am walking away from the duties of upkeep on both VLP and Hurricane Shoals and may resume construction on VLP this Winter. at this point I am not sure :?
But one thing is for sure I will putting together M.I.T.S (5) may 22 2010. due to the overwhelming response to keep it alive.
I really thank you guys for lifting up my spirits, you may never know how down and out I was.

at this time I will get back to being a father and a husband first, my baby girl is already 7, and she and mommy needs dad around the house.

take care.
