Lunch will be provided for all participants in the form of Pizza and snacks, as well as drinks.

Trophies will be in payout - either cash or gift card.

All discs used for the Ice Bowl will have original artwork, by none other than Dusty Jones!

Field will be limited to 72 players so hurry up!

Tournament HQ will be at the pavillion near the baseball fields. Registration is at 7:00am with the players meeting and start of the first round at 8:00am and 8:30am. All proceeds will go to the Friends House of McDonough (for more info see http://www.afriendshouse.org/friends-house/). Anyone interested in volunteering can sign up on the JP Moseley thread for the Ice Bowl. Additional details to be added shortly!

PRO's and AMs - Will play all gold tees + Black 13



Recreational div - Will play all cement pads except on holes 4 (blue), 8 (blue), 17 (blue) and 18 (red). 13 will be played from the blue tee (blue tee is cement pad on 13)

~All divisions will play a par 61 layout~

Hole 4 will be played from normal pads

Hole 11 will have an island green

~ Holes 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18 will have significant out of bounds lines.

Hole one has OB down the left side. The drop zone on hole one is the red tee, for all divisions.

The frog pond and creeks in front of hole 8 are OB. The walking path up to the ditch and beyond is considered ocean. The ocean will have signs the day of.

Hole 9 has ocean beyond the cross walking path on the right and left side. OB down the right and left side of the fairway.

Hole 11 has an island green for the ice bowl. If your not touching the island green (breaking the OB Line) your out of bounds.

Hole 12 now has an OB line up the right side... really shouldnt come into play unless you grip lock or get aggresive. Never the less, a player should be aware. It does however come into play on the approach.

Hole 13 is no longer a mandatory carry over the path. There is a short porch for those that want to lay up. Hole 13 uses the same OB line on 12 to seperate fairways. The road is OB. there is also OB on the left side of the fairway beyond the woods and behind the pin.

Hole 18 uses the same OB line as one. No drop zone, normal OB rules apply. The valley of death on the right side is in play. The football field is OB.

Not yet, most all divisions are weak right now except the Rec league. They are having a strong showing and are out in front right now by about 8 players.

I expect the ams and pros to pick up after Xmas.

Want some practice before the Ice Bowl?

The Ice Bowl layout will be set up and ready for practice starting Saturday January 31st and will remain that way the week leading up to the Ice Bowl.

This will be a great oppurtunity to practice the demanding layout and scout the competition.

As it is a PDGA Sanctioned C-Tier Icebowl, the 10 dollar non-member fee would be in effect.

The address is another problem. I checked my records and cannot find an error. That address info is generated by the PDGA number through the PDGA. Either, he has a PDGA number that has been reassigned to him or another player? Or I did not recieve the correct PDGA ID#. Hole 11 will feature an island green during the tournament. There are flags out there right now, as well as a drop zone represented by two flags off to the side. So if you want the practice, then head out there and try your luck.

FYI - I have not been kidnapped, well... I've been up in alpharetta playing ERP 5 X's a week. Until today when I had a facet injection procedure done.
15 shots in the neck to help fix the pain-the Dr. asks right afterwards does it feel any better... as if poking someone in the neck w/ that many needles could really make you feel better.

But, I will be back in McDonough this weekend. GOTTA GO GOTTA THROW if I can move

boss' are only in the ranges of 173-175 because of the thickness of the rim it cannot be in a lighter wieght..... on of the downfalls of this disc.... but after they wear-in, they'll fly a lot further!!

Ive Pm'd you in regards to the scorecard. Only Pin 18 will be moved. It will be in its long position at 730 ft. Hole 1, 11, and 13 will have drop zones should you venture OB. They are listed on the card.

RULES FOR THE ISLAND - IF YOUR ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY OB, YOUR OUT OF BOUNDS TO INCLUDE THE OB LINE. PLAYERS DISC MUST BE TOUCHING THE IN PLAY AREA OF THE ISLAND TO BE CONSIDERED IN PLAY. All Players OB will drop at the designated flags off the green. (originally was the red tee, but I have decided that it was too much a penalty)

The island is in right now so everyone can feel free to practice it. Im not going to lie, you have to throw a good shot which is a lot better than before. But when you reach the green most, (especially those who made it on) believe the green is big enough. Watch out long throwers, short deck behind the basket, throws that challenge for an ace could skip out.

Hey just a quick question. How do I get info changed? I am listed as Rudy Gaita. My name is actually Joseph (Joe) Gaita. I think what happened is when I purchase things I include my middle name which is Rudy... so in the first name box I put Joseph Rudy. It is a long story why I do it, but I usually only do it when making purchases. Also, I have since joined the PDGA and have a PDGA number.

It isn't a big deal or anything I was just wondering how to get that updated if possible. Thanks.

rocks around it is this OB. any plans on moving the kiosk to the side on hole #1

I didnt want to have a hole that changed depending on the weather. I mean when and if it were to rain, you could be in the river and not be completely surrounded by water... and you could be in another spot and be completely surrounded by water. I believe its much more simple to just OB and make the area fair for everyone.

Thanks guys, how many of you have met me? This is Brad Bowman. I have not played pro yet, near future, but I did break my neck, back, jaw, and middle finger on my snapping hand. I wore a halo for a little over 3 months, jaw wired for 6 weeks(never again will I eat smoothie). I was back to playing 2 weeks after wrecking. I have a Honda xr600r, freshly bored 30 thousandths over, that i wrecked Sept, 5th 08. Didn't put a scratch on the bike and almost killed me. I still ride, hell I rode with the halo on. I did hit an ACE with the halo, witnessed, on the day before Thanksgiving at Victor Lord Park. I believe it's a record. Anyone know of another one? Hope this helps with your concerns with my division and I think 945 is still Advanced. Thanks and peace, love, and disc golf to all.

well... both of you should have been on the course because it wasn't raining for long!!!!

I got there around 11am and the rain quit and the sun came out!!! Had a good round and had some bad shots as well.... John and I were the only people on the course, besides two other guys..... no walkers, nothing.....just nice & quite golfing!!

Tournament Update:

8 spots are still available for the JP Moseley Ice Bowl. The course will be set up and in tournament layout by next Monday and will remain that way until after the Ice Bowl.

CTP and Ace Fund action will be available on the day of the event, so bring your dollar bills. CTP action will be 5 dollars with a dollar from each entry going to the friends home. Winners of the CTP contest will recieve cash payout, same as ace fund.

An INNOVA TRAVELER Basket will be on hand for raffle. 1 dollar per ticket with unlimited entry, all proceeds going to charity.

And remember, CFRs are champion GLOW EL's . They are 25 dollars a piece and will be available the day of the tournament. I very proud of the progress this event has made and I think this is going to be a great event. Id like to thank all that have signed up and Im sure you will not be dissapointed as these discs are very cool.

So deliberations have been made, all opinions have been heard and the final ICE Bowl Layout will be:

PRO's and Adv AMs - Will play all gold tees + Black 13

Intermediate AM's - Will play all gold tees

Recreational div - Will play all cement pads except on holes 4 (blue), 8 (blue), and 17 (blue). 13 will be played from the blue tee (blue tee is cement pad on 13)

~All divisions will play a par 61 layout~

Hole 4 will be played from normal pads

Hole 11 will have an island green

~ Holes 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18 will have significant out of bounds lines.

Being that none of the remaining 6 players are Intermediate propagators and the current Intermediate layout is not the same tee position as the ADV/Pro or Rec tee positions, are you going change the current layout so the Intermediate players with PDGA memberships will be able to get a round rating?

Also with only 4 Rec propagators, Recreational players must play from the same layout both rounds in order to receive round ratings.

Everyone gets a round rating if Pro/ADV and Intermediate play 13 the same and Rec plays the same layout both rounds.

I know that I had PMed you about this but I wanted it to be on record because I see the layouts have not been modified.

If you are playing Intermediate from black you have solved the Intermediate Round rating issue, but choosing to move Rec to a different layout because of weather will cause Rec not to get a rating. The moving up issue will only effect Rec because if Pro/Adv/Int all move up in the second round, both unique rounds will have 5 propagators per round. If Rec is required to move up for the second round, the first round would be unique with only 4 propagators thus preventing a round rating.

I respectfully suggest that if you feel a weather modification is needed, you only move up the Pro/Adv/Int and allow Rec to receive round ratings by letting Rec play the same layout both rounds.

I will do whatever insures that the event is played in daylight.

After going over the possible scenarios, we need to get the first discs thrown before 830. Please make note of the change!!!

Just a quick question as I have never played in the Ice Bowl before. How are the groupings going to be? By that I mean how are the players going to be put into groups? The reason I ask this is because I signed up for the Ice Bowl as did two of my friends. Will be get to play together, or will be be split up into different groups? We are all registered as Rec, and I am currently the only member of the PDGA (new sign up) out of the 3 of us. I was just curious how all that worked.

There is no single way that I use to develop groups. I will make the groups for the first round the morning of and then the second round will be paired by scores. So to make sure that you and your friends get to play together, go out there shoot a good score and tell them you will see them in the final group..

I cant make promises to pair anyone with anyone, that would cause a lot of chaos thats not needed. Sry.

If it gets rainy... well, it definately gets tougher. My guess is 13's drive is approx. 350-370ft till you go over the walking path ??

No big deal. I was just wondering how it worked. The funny thing is whenever me and my friends play we are within 1 or 2 strokes of each other... LOL. However, we are not very good. We just started, but are loving the sport. We have a lot to work on.

I have been playing for 3 months now and my last 3 scores at J.P. Moseley (Gold Tees) were:

12/20/08 - 96
01/04/09 - 88
01/23/09 - 93

My two friends were within 1- 2 strokes every time. We suck, but have a lot of fun and look forward to improving those scores with time and practice. Putting is what gets us most of the time. We have a lot of hitting the basket. Today I actually had a shot that went through the chains and out the other side.

I hope there are others playing that are as bad as we are so we aren't so embarrased... LOL.

I am serving lunch so dont make any plans to go anywhere. Basically all the players can get together and have lunch while me dan rob and any good volunteers work like crazy to count up the scores and start the second round.

Obviously won't stop the disc, from crossing the line, but should help to keep the ratings more legit. I'm guessing

the layout is in play. After a lot of work, we got it in this morning. .. so eveyone will have 2 weeks of practice. Thanks to all the help dan, rob, and wade.

All lines are marked with rope and flags, please try and keep them in place. Dont move them, or walk on them. It will just take more and more time to put them back.

Hole one has OB down the left side. The drop zone on hole one is the red tee, for all divisions.

The frog pond and creeks in front of hole 8 are OB. The walking path up to the ditch and beyond is considered ocean. The ocean will have signs the day of.

Hole 9 has ocean beyond the cross walking path on the right and left side. OB down the right and left side of the fairway.

Hole 11 has an island green for the ice bowl. If your not touching the island green (breaking the OB Line) your out of bounds.

Hole 12 now has an OB line up the right side... really shouldnt come into play unless you grip lock or get aggresive. Never the less, a player should be aware. It does however come into play on the approach.

Hole 13 is no longer a mandatory carry over the path. There is a short porch for those that want to lay up. Hole 13 uses the same OB line on 12 to seperate fairways. The road is OB. there is also OB on the left side of the fairway beyond the woods and behind the pin.

Hole 18 uses the same OB line as one. No drop zone, normal OB rules apply. The valley of death on the right side is in play. The football field is OB.

Good questions. Are you coming down Saturday for the side action? Or just to play on your own?

Map, I really dont think you will need one. Just find the parking lot, Walk towards the football fields and you will find the first tee and its pretty much self explanatory from there. There are a few eats near by, easiest probably being Sonic. Take a left out of the park until Millers Mill ends and merges with N Henry BLVD. Merge left and continue, Sonic on the left.

Dont forget, this saturday is the practice event for the ice bowl. I will be in attendence with tee cards and rules sheets for anyone who wishes to come. Start time is 10 oclock.

Hmmm, was not aware of the side action. I will have to ask the group I am travelling with. I expect we will be there in the 9:30 ish range as we are leaving Snellville about 8:30. Of the 5 of us, 1 is a PDGA member and 2 have played tourneys before. That leaves 3 of us noobies. There will not be a tree safe from us in the entire park!

Yes, the last saturday of every month we have a little action mini event that Josh graciously runs. We host all divisions, and the buy in is 10 bucks. But if you guys want to just practice you dont have to join in, but it may get slow.

But I will be there, with some sort of Ohio state apparel on so come find me and Ill fill you in on the area, the course, and the event.

I wouldnt recommend eating at sonic either. Its just the noticable landmark. There are a ton of resturants in that general area though, so if I get them there they can choose who they want.

I have been doing a little bit of reading about the Ice Bowl. The slogan is "no whimps, no whinners," and it also said that there is no reason to miss the Ice Bowl (I am sure there are exceptions to this). Anyway, I was thinking, then I got a headache and had to stop. Then began to think again, but had to take it a bit slower this time, as to avoid the headache and bloody nose

Is there a tradition or something that applies to no shows? Do we get to mock them in public or something? Don't get me wrong I am not the type of person to "seriously" mock anyone, but the way the Ice Bowl is advertised (at least that I have seen); I was wondering if there was a silly little "penalty" for not showing. If there is I am sure it is all in good fun and such. Don't get me wrong, if you say you are going to go, barring any real issues, you should go. It is for a good cause after all.

Like I said I was just curious because the Ice Bowl had that "if you don't show you are a wuss" attitude to it. Which I think is cool.

I have had some questions regarding how hole 13 will play.

There is no drop zone on hole 13 during the Ice Bowl. The hole plays as a regular hole with OB would play. IF you throw OB from the tee you simply drop your shot where it crossed the OB line.

The path plays as a creek.

just wanted to say thanks for all the support. This has quite possibly the hardest time of my life and the disc golf community has been very supportive over the last two days and Im really appreciative. I originally thought about turning the event over to Daniel, but I am going to push on. Ive come to far to turn back now.

But the show must go on.

A couple of reminders:

~PDGA.com should be updated tonight, if you find any issues pm me and I will try to work on them.

~ the tournament fund was counting on selling out the ELs. IF we dont then we wont be able to contribute much, please find it in you to purchase a CFR. I have been informed that the EL is going out of production, so these things will be collectors items very soon.

~Please remember that registration starts at 7:00 Am. IF you have friends that you know dont check the board regularly please try and remind them.

~Barring shipping problems, Play It Again Sports should have the new grooves on hand if anyone is intersted in purchasing them.

Well, I just got back from the Ice Bowl a little bit ago; and I had a great time. I had to leave before the awards were handed out because my wife was watching the baby so I could go. So I hung out for a little bit, and then made my way home.

I came in dead last, but the experience was so much fun I don't even care. The first round I actually posted the best score I have ever had at J.P. an 82. I actually wasn't in last at this point either. The second round started and I started off pretty good (for me) posting a 42 on the front. Then the back nine ATE ME ALIVE. Then it even went a step further and just to make sure I knew it was my daddy... on hole 15 it took my blood. I had to through out of sticker bush.

Anyway, I just want to thank everyone who put this together, every one who I was grouped with, and heck just everyone in general. Everyone was extremely nice. Disc Golfers are a great group of people, and it is no wonder the sport is getting more popular everyday. You start out as a new player, like me, and people who I had just met that day were encouraging me and pushing me to do my best; and like I said, on the first round and a half I was literally doing my best.

This was an awesome tournament to be involved in as a newbie, and I would encourage anyone that didn't sign up because they were afraid of being embarrassed because they aren't that good yet... don't even worry about it. No one cares. In fact, your group mates will most likely be cheering you on every step of the way; and give you pointers here and there that can really help you.

Well, sorry to go on and on in a long winded post. My goal for next year is not coming in last, but hey, if I do no big deal. So thanks for a great time, and see you all out on the course.

Same here. Great job Donnie. This was my first tourney as well and I had a great time. It was a lot of fun getting to know a good groups of guys I had never played with before. It was also fun watching the open guys (and gal) make me feel totally inadequate!

It was my second Sanctioned tournament (not counting Fright Flight Doubles) and I thought it went very smoothly, even though I was announced as 3rd place when I actually tied for second.

I can't believe JR won rec. I am SURE I'm better than you JR. John called it up-thread though. Congrats, JR. 1st tourney and you come in first. Well-deserved.

Donnie, great first effort as TD. Everyone I know had a great time and thought it was well run. The course looked great and the layout was just right IMO. Thanks for a great time.

Apparently for placing, OB counts break ties so I erroneously stated above that I tied for second in rec. In fact Barry came second because I had more OB. My question is this, does that affect player rating or is it just for placing? The PDGA info seems to indicate that it's just totals s. SSA of the course. Is that right?

There's no such thing as a tie breaker, unless it is a playoff for first. Some more extreme situations might be playing off to be in a final foursome for a big event. OB's don't count in a tie breaker. If you finished tied with BAGGER BARRY, you officially are tied for second.

Thanks to all that came out. I enjoyed running the event, and I believe everyone should either try to run one or be heavily involved behind the scenes of an event just to gain the appreciation for what it takes to accomplish this task. I dont know how my event compares to others or how good of a job I did, but for 25 dollars per person Im sure you got your money's worth! Thanks go out to everyone who aided my effort and for all of the support the disc golf community has given me the last week. I am very thankful.

Great job to Donnie and crew for running a smooth event. Had a blast. I saw the scores and ratings are up, but it looks like the rec ratings are inaccurate. They played a shorter layout and so the ratings are much higher than they should be.

they still don't look right -- click on ratings in the admin pg and make sure you've got different layouts showing up & selected...

get the cards to somebody who's playing in athens on saturday if possible. do u need that bin that the drinks came with back?

Ratings have been updated and Im sad to report that the recreational division might not recieve a rating. Now the PDGA people requested the layout chart, hole by hole, I guess they are going to enter the difference and try to fill in the gap.

So look for changes to come, but as of now the Recs will not recieve a rating.

Rec will have enough propagators required for an official rating. Eight propagators are needed for the unofficial ratings but only 5 are needed per layout for the official ratings that will be posted in 3/17/2009.

I've googled SSA and statistics and scoring and keep getting something to do with social security admin.
Could someone please define SSA for me, thx. I'm tryin to figure out how these scores are figured.

SSA = what the average 1000 rated golfer would shoot on a given round. it's based on how the entire field shoots that round; so the SSA can fluctuate for a layout based on weather.

Technically they always wait when they have less than 8 propagators but will give you your official rating next rating period because we did have enough rated rounds with propagators for official ratings.

By the way after looking at your first 4 unofficial scores, I suspect you may have to prepare yourself for Intermediate because I think your rating will be over 900 before The GSSS event 2. Good playing.

Not a Stupid question and for you or anyone else out there that joins AFTER playing a PDGA Sanctioned Event, and BEFORE a Ratings Update - you can call the PDGA Headquaters at 1-706-261-6342 and tell them the Event(s) you played BEFORE you got your PDGA # along with your PDGA #, and they can credit you with your points and ratings for those Events you played in.

Next update is in 4 weeks, so there is still time to join and get your stats.
