At least it's the day AFTER the finals, so it only interferes if you are playing the course layout on Sunday thingy.

But unless it moves to November, there isn't any open spaces for most of the Summer/Fall/Early Winter time frame.

But having choices isn't always a bad thing right?

Just break down and bring that 56 inch plasma out to the course along with your Direct TV hook-up. If you get it there by 7AM, you should have it ready for us to watch before 1PM kick-offs.

Who or what determines which level you are? I am not good enough to be a pro and too old to be an intermediate and too experienced to be an amateur. And on most days, I realize I should have stayed home.

Play in the advanced division, unless you are older than 40, if you are then play in the advanced masters div.
After the tourney see where you rank and the you can decide where to go next. These divisions give you a feel for the average competitive player and you'll play with guys who can show the ropes of tourney play. There is no hard and fast rule for where you should play, just go out and have fun and see how you fare against the course.

You are never too old to play in a division that you feel comfrotable in. We would love to have you in Advanced Masters but Advanced, Intermediate, or Rec are all viable options.

Pro's usually play from the Black Tees and all AM's from the Blues. Take a look at the scores from the last ERP event and then see where your average score puts you. Might be a good way to decide what division to play:

Based on my play yesterday, there is no division that would fit my play. Too many makable missed putts....ouch. A nice drive on the 9th salvaged the day and I missed that birdie putt too, however a good time was had....
Thanks for the advice, though. I need to see if I can clear my family calendar for that day, anyway.

We are working with RDGC and ERP to handle course prep. All the tee boxes will be raked and repacked and a number of downed trees will be removed and a few live ones (behind or close to tee boxes). It is possible that we will have a work day on one of the two Saturdays before the tourney ... though some, including me, will be playing in the Primo Plastic Intergalactic Championship last Sat of Sept.

I am not promising any tree removal, but will be glad to take a look at anything that might be considered a hindrance around the tee boxes. Our staff will handle the tee pad stabilizer and they will be raked and smoothed for Sunday's rounds. I have hired two new part time guys, so I am finally back to where I need to be and hopefully we will be able to put a small dent in getting up some of the downed trees/limbs.

Jason, you will probably need to get with Stephen/Taylor to get things like tables, chairs, tents, P.A. system and painting OB lines and rope.

Hope you have a great turn out for the tournament.

Jason, If you don't mind.......

I am volunteering to run the AM BAG TAG action for Sunday. Bring your TAG to ME before the round and you are in. You can also give me $5.00 for absolutely no reason at all.

I drive a Silver Element and will be hanging out or warming up on the course. I am willing to let the REC baggers in on this even though they are playing a shorter course if there are NO objections. One objection to the short course and the REC's are on their own (sorry). Everyone else in the AM's are playing the BLUES.

You need to check in with me as soon as you finsh to give me your total score (that means you combine the scores of both rounds to get the total Rd 1 + Rd 2 = Total Score ). And I will try to get it done as quick as possible. Don't bother Jason or Andrew with this when checking in as they have enough to do.

It's On!!

Don't forget I get a 10 stroke bag tag challenge credit for volunteering to do this.***

The OB lines will be marked on Saturday morning, however, the course will be CLOSED Saturday afternoon @ 3:00 PM.

The course will be open early Sunday morning for pre-tourney practice.

OBs:

There will be lines painted on both sides and around creek bed on #2. (note NO OB behind hole #2)
Walking path between tennis courts and holes #10 and #11 is OB.
Mando left of tree on #11 and OB line extending from Mando tree behind and beyond #17s green. The OB line plays fo both holes #11 and #17.
Roped off "rock-pond" is OB on #12.

Everyone that said they would bring their cash the day of, be sure to do so. CASH (folding bills). This goes strait to pay out, so checks and promises do no good. Also, bring cash for the ace fund if you aren't already in it. There will be a throw off if it is not hit. Hole #2 Blue pad I believe.

Great tournament, and since I threw SO MANY shots I feel that I really got my moneys worth. At the same time I have generated a list of trees that need to be removed so that I can compete better next time. Its a LONG list. And I think a deer kicked my disc on one hole in the second round and it put it just out of my range (for today that was about 10 ft).

Other than that, well run, lunch was great and thanks to all those as usual that helped out and those who sponsored in whatever way to make it more enjoyable!

Rule 803.01B - A player who throws a practice throw or an extra throw with any disc any time after the start of his or her round and prior to his or her finishing the last hole of the round ... shall receive on penalty throw.

Rule 801.01B - ... examples of discourteous violations are: ... throwing minis ...
Rule 801.01G - A player violating a courtesy rule may be warned by any affected player, even if from another group, or by an official, with all players of the group advised of the warning. The player shall be assessed one penalty throw for each subsequent courtesy violation of any type in the same round. ...
Rule 803.01D(4) - Appeals ... The appeal should be made as soon as practical. The decision of the director shall be final.

Rule 804.03E - At the end of the round, each player shall sign his or her scorecard indicating that he or she attests to the accuracy of the score on each hole and the total score. ...

TDs ruling - Final score stands with no appeal (reference rules 804.03E & 804.03G).

My editorial ... although there was a penalty stroke assessed in error, an appeal to the scoring was not made timely, and the score card was turned in. Once a score card is turned-in, the score can not be modified to remove strokes. The appeal has to be made prior to turning in the card.

Because the throwing of a mini is specifically referenced as a courtesy violation, it cannot also be a practice throw.

So maybe Bootsie learned that he can act out by throwing his Mini Marker Disc (as defined by the pdga rulebook) without getting stroked, even through the rule book clearly calls it a disc. if you play by the book of rules given to us, there is no issue. So you say the pdga says it isnt a disc, well THEIR rule book does.

I guess i'm just to dumb to understand the rules

p.s.-he threw it like a disc, it flew like a disc, it even looked like a small disc. but what do i know

Yeah, the PDGA recognized the ambiguity and will hopefully take steps to clarify.

The rule on practice throws states "any disc" and the rule on courtesy violations states "throwing minis".

As TD if this comes up again, I would have to defer to the specific rule reference where there is question.

btw, I heard it hit a tree, just like a regulation competition disc :shock:

No Dollar - This is just one of SEVERAL rules in the rule book that are ambiguously covered by several different ways to interpret them, which is why the PDGA has the rules Q&A to fill in the gaps until the next rule book comes out(probably in '10, as it has already been stated by the Competition Committee that there will NOT be a new one in '09)

It stinks that it's that way that there are several gray areas in the rules book, but hopefully if everyone carried one (or at least 1 in the group) that things that are not clear get brought to the TD at the appropriate time before the card is turned in.

I sincerely hope that I did not aggravate anyone, as that certainly was NOT my intention, but I was also 100% sure that a mini is NOT a disc according to the Competition Committee, and I did say that the incident should have been been dealt with WAAAAAAAYYYYY before the end of the tournament.

Patience, grasshopper. They're uploading to Flickr even as I type this. As of this moment, 182 of 992 have uploaded -- that's a couple of hours of upload time so far (total is about 1.6GB). Once they're up (probably sometime tonight), I'm going to make another pass through and pull together a selection to post as a separate collection, so folks won't have to slog through all thousand of them to find the better shots.

46% done (455 of 992) as of now. Given that it's been about 8 hours so far, it's reasonable to expect they won't finish uploading until about 4 am. So it'll likely be sometime tomorrow before I can post a link to them and start creating the "best of" collection. I could have sorted through them first to upload a selection first, but that would have probably meant waiting longer, since I'd have to do it at times when neither my job nor my kids need me.

I took my penalty stroke and throw, so what "expertise" do you wish to discuss.
That's why I carry the Rulebook(actually 2), so if there is something I'm not 100% sure of, I can look it up.

It has been 11 years since I took a practice throw in a tournament, and I wasn't sure so we looked it up - and scored it correctly.

The point is we talked about it and scored it correctly AT THE TIME of the infraction, which is the point I was making about Bootsie, not waiting until the Event was over.

Anytime you want to go over rules with me, I'm always willing to look it up, because even though I have a pretty good memory, I'm NOT perfect and I have NO PROBLEM looking up the rules.

The ruling on the mini was in the rules Q&A answered by the Rules Committee, and therefore NOT in the rule book, BUT I remembered it because it was a huge issue at some Texas event last year and was all over the PDGA Discussion Board.

You should be glad I had a penalty throw as it allowed you to tie me for first loser. :mrgreen:

John - I could have used your computer thingy when I was adding my score. My 2nd round was actually a 55 with my scoring error. You can make the correction on the spreadsheet by hitting the 'idiot" key. And yes, I am a dumba$$ but I still had a lot of fun. :mrgreen:

The only thing you're right about is that we shouldn't wait until the event is over. And no, we did NOT score you correctly, mainly because we were so dumbfounded by your insanity. First off, there is no provision for declaring your first throw as a practice throw so that your second throw counts as your legal throw. I think this is where you distracted us all and confounded us with you insane logic. Secondly, we did score you incorrectly for the practice stroke. As you pointed out, I think(I was still trying to keep my balance at the time.), the practice throw(extra throw) would not count in your score, but you would receive a penalty stroke. So we should have scored you one extra stroke for that, not two by counting the extra throw. Follow me? Now, don't go getting excited about that; we still let you off easy, because by the time we all agreed, we just wanted to move on and see what you'd do on the next hole. As it turns out, a couple of things could have happened right there. Since you had holed out from the 'practice throw' lie and not your legal throw, we should have penalized you 2 more strokes for throwing from an improper lie. Or, because you willfully misplayed the hole, the TD could have disqualified you. Or, we could have just scored you as a 7 for not finishing the hole. Either way, by my interpretation of the rules IN THE RULEBOOK, you should have been scored a 6 on that hole, not the 5 you got.

The bottom line is, we DID score you improperly and that could(can still) be corrected. Of course that would mean you'd no longer be tied with Grease, so you make the call.

My face never got blue, and it did not affect me in one bit because I knew that the Rules committee had already declared a mini not a disc in 2007, so try and keep up please. :roll:

It has it's own rule(802.02) which follows Discs used in play (802.01). If mini's were intened to be used as discs in play, there would not be a reason to separate them, which is one of the things the Rules Committee stated in their ruling.

Woody is correct about Hole 12 in that declaring the 1st throw a practice throw could not be done because I was throwing competitively from my lie, therefore I did not properly hole out which means I should receive a 6, my card was scored incorrectly and Greg should have been first loser.
BUT - just like with Bootsie, Woody needed to address this before the awards were distributed, and I could have been properly penalized for the incorrect score.
At this point in time it is for me a lesson learned, and I will remember this going forward, so in another 11 years when I take another practice throw, I will make sure to play properly according to the rules in place in 2019.

I apologize for getting that wrong, but like Bootsie said as we were all staring at our rule books on 13's tee - how do you have 3 rules guys not know the ruling? It's because there are alot of gray areas and contradicting rules in the book, but if you look at all the different options, there is usually a concenus about the rule to be made, and you go with the one that is closest to solving the situation.

By the way - I still stand by my already confirmed by Gentry ruling about the mini's. :mrgreen:

Any idea when the scores and ratingsfor Lost In The Woods will be sent to the PDGA. I noticed the rest of the tournaments that week have scores and ratings posted on the website.

I believe the PDGA already has them, but they have not processed the TD Report yet. Did the PDGA say they DIDN'T have the TD Report?

The PDGA has the TD Report, but the Live Tournament Admin page is not functioning yet. So, I cannot load the scores and layouts via that tool. I have followed up with the PDGA on a couple of occassions, including earlier this week. They are aware the tool is not up and are working to resolve issues.

I will be checking back almost daily to get the scores posted and wrap up tourney efforts.
