We’ve had some awesome April action around the Atlanta area! Derek Disc hosted an excellent tournament at Oregon Park on April 15; here’s his account of the day:
First of all, we had so much help from Craig Dickerson, Walter Black, Rudy Rudick, James Salmi, Chloe Watts, Hayden Riccard, Kim Collins, Kolté Breck and others I am sure I am forgetting…..Thank you all for all you did to ensure our eventual success.
The course looked great. 51 players showed up to battle the Gold to Gold, Par 59 layout. After Round 1 Matt Allen had a 3 stroke lead over the entire field after shooting the hot round of 50. Zach Haynes and Lane Keenan joined Matt on the Lead Card with 53’s, with Zach Smith on top of the chase card with a 53 as well.
Matt was the victor, with Zach closing the gap to 1 stroke to finish 2nd overall. The top 12 will earn invites to the Regional Championship scheduled for July 1-2 at the IDGC.
We had 2 gentlemen, Paul Grier Jr. and John Reid pulling out 2 of the best shots all day…..carding 2’s on the courses longest hole, 605 feet, Hole 3. Personally, I know of about 6 or 7 people that have done this since the redesign of Oregon Park.
In the end, everyone appeared to have had a good time. The event ran like clockwork for this TD.
I hope more Amateurs will consider playing in a qualifier for this tour. There are rumors of another qualifier coming our way. Keep an eye and ear out for details as they develop.
Thank you Derek for the hard work you put into hosting a great event! We’d love to see more events like this in the future.
